A1: execution by each guy...💯% effort as well and timing... https://t.co/Tv1ysgUac3
-
-
Q1: What makes a screen effective?
-
-
A1) Timing... timing of the play development, and timing as part of game situation...
-
A1: running it at the right time and catching the defense with their guard down and their flys open. EXPOSE THEM!
-
-
Ian Brown. Offensive Line & Linebackers. Newberry High School. Newberry, FL.
-
Honestly timing of the play call is huge when you get the defense blitzing or not expecting the screen.
-
What has helped us with screens is being able to sell a play that the defense has been aggressive to.
-
Trevor Williams-DBs South Forsyth HS. GA
-
A1: Play call timing, QB fluidity, most important thing is open field blocks by OL, WR, and TE.
-
The Cooch! Jack of all trades. Offense, defense, you name it, I can do it. Ask away boys. Get your pads out, I've got mine!
-
A1: sell the pass concept and run it on 1st or 2nd down
-
A1: an overly aggressive defense doesn't hurt, "if they let you go to the QB, FIND THE SCREEN"
-
A1) Timing, angles, blocking, execution, and sometimes deception
-
What type of screen we talking?
-
A1) as a tempo team I've always been taught all screens are effective if you make the defense run sideline to sideline.
-
A1: Over-aggressive defense, OL good timing on release and knowing who to block, QB release
-
A1: I think what makes screens effective are two things, timing and playmakers in space
-
A1: timing, deception, play makers.
-
Brandon Wilcox HFC Montevallo HS
-
A1 - called at the right time. Know tendencies
-
A1: a) Players dangerous in the open field with ball, b) effective perimeter blocking, c) tenacious down field blocking by OL
-
A1. Linemen getting in the way so the best athlete can make the play. We use it as an extension of our run game.
-
A1: Timing is key! Also OL need to sell pass protection then get out and be able to run to get to their blocks!
-
A1-we have attached screens to plays in the game the defense has been aggressive to stop ex key screen with a back side rb slip
-
-
A1-timing and getting OL to at least get in a guys way.
-
Dustin Altmiller, OC at Benbrook High School. A1 - the backfield action to set the screen up and the OL execution of the scheme.
-
Cody Gardner Washington, MO Washington High DC Host of Thurs 8 pm CST, S&C talk
-
A1 Much like every other play, most times it comes down to execution of assignments and blocking. Blocking and tackling is 🔑
-
A1: most effective w/ a D that's playing for pass downfield on inside screen. Blocking, leverage, numbers key on outside screens
-

Romison Saint-Louis DC Elkhart Memorial HS Elkhart Indiana . Here to learn. Coach me up.
-
A1: Always found screens to be more effective in the first half when the rush is still energized.
-
A1: Good Screens are ones where you trick the DL they almost have a sack, and 2nd level defenders blocked
-
watching and learning tonight...
-
Jason Rimkus, HC Redmond HS
-
A1: Effective base run schemes that force defenses to run horizontal or vertical really fast. D&D plays a HUGE role in this.
-
A1: Timing and simplicity. Called at the right time, and does your screen resemble any other play that you run often?
-
-
A1) Action away from screen that affects Secondary's eyes & LB's feet away from screen
-
“: A1: Always found screens to be more effective in the first half when the rush is still energized. ” agree
-
A1cont-having an athlete in space and big guys who can move always help the success I've found...
-
A1: Timing of the call, screen meshes w/ system, personnel to make a play in space - be it blocking, making play w/ ball, etc.
-
A1 - also simplicity for OL and running different types (actions) but keeping the base rules similar or the exact same for OL
-
-
Tom Clark OC/QB coach at North Cobb HS, Kennesaw, Ga.
-
Don Jacobs OC Batavia HS (OH)
-
A1: A screen is effective when they've been pressuring the SNOT out of your QB and they smell blood. Get 'em.

-
A1) OL keeping bodies under control coming up on open field block. Biggest way to miss blocks is lunging, improper base.
-
A1: and naturally, as with all other plays, the OL has to be properly coached. Don't whiff and don't leave your man to make play
-
Mike Nash
Head Football Coach
Dunwoody High School, Georgia
-
Good pass rush from the DL, Timing, OL getting to their area and QB carrying out his responsibilities to draw the DL
-
A1: Timing of play call. You have to have it at just the right moment when the defense is bringing some heat!
-
Q2: How many route options do you include in your screens?
-
Q2: How many route options do you include in your screens?
-
John Mitchell OL Midwest City HS Midwest City OK.
Sorry I'm late, but it's a party now!!!
-
A1 timing and maintaining the blocking long enough. Being able to hold a block long enough for the WR to make a decision
-
A2: one. Keep it simple and effective. Don't clutter the already cluttered mind.
-
# Concepts are always good behind the screen game.
-
A2: What's a "route option?"
-
Joey Jackson Oline coach A&M consolidated
-
A1 Its all timing…linemen timing, WR/RB timing, QB timing…
-
A2: all depends on the coverage and what the defense gives us https://t.co/pemLG1Ea43
-
-
Q2: How many route options do you include in your screens?
-
A2: Just one usually, don't want too many moving parts.
-
-
A1: great timeing, blocking, catching the defense in a blitz, or an offensive numbers advantage.
-
A2: Most of our screens, just 1...we do have a double screen where if the quick hitch is covered we hit the flaring back
-
A1: Obviously great vs. aggressive DL, we like to go to screen game early & often - make DL/DC uncomfortable/think from start.
-
A2: can't wait to see these answers, looking forward to learning something here
-
Only in my slo-screens and it's about 5 different concepts https://t.co/MJdHxoMtvj
-
-
Q2: How many route options do you include in your screens?
-
Concepts are always good behind the screen game.
-
A2:our screen routes usually have 3 combos.W use PPO based on alignment. Ex key screen, stalk and go and backside rb slip w/OL
-
a1 also think you have to have a guy that has the right attitude…
-
A2: We usually run a few different looks but we like to run stick with slow screen to boundary
-
A2: 1-2 route options depending on how aggressive the other team is. Especially on WR screens.
-
A1 Its all timing…linemen timing, WR/RB timing, QB timing…
-
Concepts are always good behind the screen game and a double screen.
-
A2: I am going to learn on this one.
-
A2: run enough to give you and out, and not clutter up blocking lanes for OL one or two I would think
-
A2: One basic route, but a built in plan to adjust to D reaction. QB cannot throw blind just because it's a screen.
-
Like many things keep it simple. https://t.co/4dZdfY7QwD
-
-
A2: one. Keep it simple and effective. Don't clutter the already cluttered mind.
-
Seems to me yu need to make sure the frame lines up. Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time.
-
A2)usually one but we have built in to read off mike with drop back concept frontside and screen backside
-
A2) 2 - one to each side of the field. That way it splits the defense.
-
-
such a great and simple concept coach. Love stretching the field horizontally
-
A2: More than 90% of the time, just one.
-
A2: we throw 3 WR screens & 2 RB screens, we package them together in different ways allowing QB to work numbers or read a key
-
A2- Our WRs have 2-3 diff types RBs 2 different ones
-
A2: We usually go just 1. We have a double screen with a flare from the RB with a tunnel from BS WR. Read the EMOL.
-
A2- Just one, but we have multiple actions in the backfield to set them up. Try to keep it simple for us and the D guessing.
-
David French
Lindale High School
-
A2: we run double hitch to backside of our screens if QB likes that look presnap, take it, if not screen it is.
-
yes sir in between homework discussions I catch up!
-
A2)RB screen- WR=Protection releases WR Screen= Unders/Drags to pull backend away from concept
-
A2: One. If you can't complete the throw, either throw it at the RB's feet (inside screen) at the WR's feet (outside WR screen).
-
A2: No options. Fear the man who practices 1 play 10,000 times, not the man who practices 10, 000 plays 1 time.
-
we also will slip the blocking slot receiver on a fade if the defense jumps the WR screen!
-
A2: Our most effective screen has two options with reading the M LB to make numbers right throwing away from his drop
-
A2 I'm going to look at some answers on this one. I'll be honest, screens are not my specialty
-
A2: We will also run route concepts with our regular screens to get LB's eyes on routes to help OL downfield.
-
A2: What is the forward pass?
-
a2 usually will run a couple route concepts (fade/out or hitch)
-
One in particular that killed us last year was a screen to the field and the WR to the field ran a simple drag back across
-
And remember, 70% of the time it works every time.
-
-
A1: Timing of the release and the ability to make it look like another play
-
A1- I think its a combo of several things happening right at the perfect time.
-
A2: fast screens one, slow screens two
-
-
Great stuff! Q3 coming up!
-
Great stuff! Q3 coming up!
-
A2: Just one. We have screen option on run game, playing numbers. Will go sucker and other adjustments based off looks we get.
-
One route option with a built in escape option for QB if he thinks the screen is blown
-
Can I retweet this TWICE?
-
A1: Timing of play and call, yes-but HAS to initially look like one of your other plays. Good D knows immediately if it doesn't.
-
https://t.co/Zm5Nsdhdxf
-
-
A2) I like screens 2 look same as routes in our playbook Keeps Lb's droppin n zones makes OL job easier to get hooked up.
-
https://t.co/fNR4UDcsQN
-
-
A2) I like screens 2 look same as routes in our playbook Keeps Lb's droppin n zones makes OL job easier to get hooked up.
-
This is the key! https://t.co/LFQy6fmhE5
-
-
A2: No options. Fear the man who practices 1 play 10,000 times, not the man who practices 10, 000 plays 1 time.
-
Q3: What rules do you have for your QB in your screens?
-
Q3: What rules do you have for your QB in your screens?
-
-
A1: to not have all OL in release so there is some pass deception, timing, OL blocking to areas rather than men
-
-
A3: Going to learn on this as well
-
When you guys run a screen do you prefer an flex screen or the good ol pick and roll?
-
a3 rules??? completions! Don’t throw INT’s…You have to welcome a guy right in your face then put it on your guy
-
A2- usually just one route. Don't want too much clutter in the target area.
-
Crimson Chargers representing tonight. https://t.co/MGW9NFTfwK

-
A1: Timing of play and call, yes-but HAS to initially look like one of your other plays. Good D knows immediately if it doesn't.
-
A3:no matter what, throw to the good guys... Preferably the open one
-
A3: if it's not there, go to your hot read, if that's not there, get out of there. DON'T FORCE THROW ON A SCREEN.
-
A3: don't drop further than pass depth until rush makes you, D has to be sucked in
-
2 max: a quick read and then the screen
-
a3 all heck breaks loose, throw at their feet...
-
-
-
-
A3: Get DEPTH. HS DL think they made world's greatest pass rush move, so QB depth will lure them upfield. Patience for a window
-
Derek Tuttle, OL/Co-OC, Andover Central HS, Andover, KS.
-
A3) 1 RULE treat it like your 4 vertical concept and QB MOVE SAFETY'S with eyes!!!
-
A3: Depends on the screen, quick release on passes outside, climb the ladder on drop back screens...throw where we catch it only
-
A3: Pocket, retreat, complete or in dirt. MOST IMPORTANT QB RULE = Every drive ends in a kick.
-
A 3) timing! The ball has to be released in 2 counts. Talking about screens at the this weekend in DFW.
-
A3: no INT's!! Kill the ball at the feet of the screener..live to fight another play https://t.co/qReMdNwjlR
-
-
Q3: What rules do you have for your QB in your screens?
-
A3: Depends on the screen. If we are throwing fast screen we want to find the softest CB.
-
A3 I want to make it as simple as possible for the QB. Just take the snap, turn, and throw. Very quick motion.
-
A3)fast screen get it out of your hand now!!!slow screen sell action with eyes away then dont throw blind. Incomplete is ok.
-
-
-
is now trending in USA, ranking 47
-
A3: Stay light on feet. Be fast to apex of drop. Find window for screen. Window is closed-escape. Can't escape-throw RB's feet.
-
-
-
Great rule to have for your Offense... https://t.co/WjvtlSWfuw

A3: Pocket, retreat, complete or in dirt. MOST IMPORTANT QB RULE = Every drive ends in a kick.

A1: timing, knowing when to call it. Screens sometimes are best on really odd D/D situations. Acting is huge.
-
A3: Get it to your hot or key on blitz, be patient on any 2 count screens, "poker face body language." rbs feet if no good.
-
Coach Jones repping KCMO!... https://t.co/DZQLLyiOTT
-
-
A 3) timing! The ball has to be released in 2 counts. Talking about screens at the this weekend in DFW.
-
A3: Depends on screen. We want him confident in what he sees, numbers, etc. Want him getting big on middle screens, miss low.
-
-
-
A3: Timing, don't need a laser throw to a RB either.
-
Sell the playaction, don't be too fast and be ready to make a throw under pressure. If lane is cloudy, throw it in the dirt.
-
A3 we want to attack the softest CB. Someone we can take advantage of and block without too much difficulty
-
A1) the timing of the play call, ability to manipulate defense with Playaction or motion
-
A3: If it breaks down and there's no way out, throw it to your mom
-
Q4: How do you practice running and defending screens? Please feel free to include drills
-
Q4: How do you practice running and defending screens? Please feel free to include drills
-
A3 cont.: Can't bail too early, clear feet quickly if ball getting to edge - think like SS/2B working DB pivot at second base.
-
a3: 100 percent completions. Dont throw over defenders.
-
A2: One route. Would love somebody to DM a good dbl screen.
-
-
great answers!!! Tuning in from GEORGIA
-
Always look forward to Wednesday nights and following along with - great ideas!
-
A4: We work screens during Indy. Screens during ROA and screens during team. We will work them someway everyday
-
A4 we practice it like anything else...Indy, group, then team...very rarely vs Def at beginning
-
A3: get ball out fast, don't throw into traffic. Know coverage to understand blocking scheme. Change if needed.
-
A4) Always practice as part of Down and Distance script... Defensively.. typically our 3rd and Long, 3rd med days are Wednesdays
-
A4 Screen periods, screens on air, cones set up as aiming points, OL have area rules so they block cones as well. Rep x1000
-
A3- find Windows-QB needs to be creative in his releases, each one won't always be the same delivery so we practice diff throws
-
I think every offense should have a screen period on air everyday day to get timing perfect. 5-10 mins. Work them in team period
-
A4: We drill it in individual at every position. At least once a week we have an offensive screen period.
-
Hey!Hey!Hey! This is the best time of the day!!!
-
A4:fast screen drill=snap&throw, slow screen drills=sell,sell,sell,dump
-
we always bring the safety down to the side of the one back set... Most screens sell the zone first. Am I wrong???
-
A4: Usually vs air, bags, or cones. Don't like it vs a defense can be a cluster you know what. Rep landmarks and staying flat.
-
-
Q4: practice screens during Indy period but mostly during team time so you can get the timing down and bring it all together
-
A4: Lots of group work. Screens require timing at QB, OL and skill positions. Half line vs air, qb&wr vs air team vs air, team.
-
A3: Look to deep routes to fake DBs; then for the DL, "make the rat take the cheese." Don't run back too quickly!
-
A4 beginning of year summer we will run 5-10 min periods as many reps as possible, back and forth vs air with OL aiming points
-
We practice ours in ROA,Skelly & Team. OL work cage drill and release points https://t.co/xQ8tD3oo3t
-
-
Q4: How do you practice running and defending screens? Please feel free to include drills
-
A4: also, work them with guys holding bags to establish the visual effect for running lanes and blocking schemes
-
I think you all are confused. Are we talking about the same kind of screens?
-
A4: Two major things you have to drill to be successful: Timing with QB, RB, and OL release, and OL in open field.
-
We run a lot of man coverage, but we blitz a lot too. Most OC's we face are very predictable in their timing of screens
-
A4: Defensively it needs to be practiced live. D-Line will always do a screen redirect drill.
-
A4: During takeaway circuit work DL reading screen, locating RB/Wr and getting there.LB and DB work block destruction to screen
-
A3- timing & reading the defense. Get the ball to WR/RB @ the right time.
-
A4 practicing blocking both for the screen and downfield is crucial. Have the WR practicing 1v1 blocking and hand placement.
-
A4: If the OL is taught to LOVE blocking screens, you can feast on screens in high school football. So many ways to set them up.
-
A4 - include a 5 min period three days a week Screens On Air (3-4 defenders hand shields) also will work it in half line vs def
-
Quick poll: Did anyone else have a Burlsworth Character Award winner? Got package in mail today, pretty cool
-
A4: Best way to practice defending screens is getting live looks from the Offense. Much more realistic than Indy screen drills
-
A4: We practice our screens on air as a team...work OL timing with the back release, OL release to corner all with team
-
A4: 1/2 line quick screen, 1/2 line convoy....lots of reps.
-
-
A4 I love practicing screens in our Red Zone/Goal Line periods, that's when the Def we play tend to get very aggressive
-
A4)lineman always work screen drill vs bags, sidewalk alley wall. Give them a landmark not a man. Qbs/RBS/WRS screens on air.
-
A4) I think you should definitely have screen periods in your practice. Working it both ways to prevent or create a big play!
-
Now it's time to learn https://t.co/xkfyJit4sn
-
-
Q4: How do you practice running and defending screens? Please feel free to include drills
-
A4: Spend ton of time in screen period. Always include in team script. Its a BIG part of who we are - gets BIG min. in practice.
-
A4: Our O does screen drill to open practice everyday vs. Cones, guys must know landmarks.
-
we always put our DT's to help the screens. DE always have to rush the passer. The deep drop gives it away
-
A4: Sneak one screen in during Team O to simulate a live situation. Don't do a repeat unless you need high blood pressure.
-
Y'all are doing great! Q5 on deck!
-
Y'all are doing great! Q5 on deck!
-
A4:I am wrong to assume that most coaches practice the box drill with their OL when working on screens. Better drills 4 screens?
-
A4: Work screen pursuit with defense. Lot of times the guys that make plays on screens are the guys that hustle and retrace.
-
A2 - I always run one screen for OL but we can do it as H slip screen or WR Tunnel - blocked the same. Like both to boundary
-
A4)always have 1 or 2 in every defensive team period, never let the defense know. Gotta be able to defend them at any time.
-
A4- cont. we also have a Run, Play Action and Screen period we run vs defense during spring and preseason. Competitive period
-
A4- integrated into our practice on a daily basis.
-
A4: 5 min screen period every day vs. bags or air. Work them in team script as well. OL will work landmarks during Indy
-
A4: screen work is in indy. Such a different technique for OL. Use yard lines/hashes to landmark. QB/RB timing in small group.
-
Awesome comment coach... we work "retrace" daily... https://t.co/cNEEW3QcHq
-
-
A4: Defensively it needs to be practiced live. D-Line will always do a screen redirect drill.
-
A4 though we may not have a screen period at all anymore, as I don't know if we can justify the time spent for few game reps
-
I have a package of screens that don't, but many do and some with just a quick flash https://t.co/n9kDNlj7fx
-
-
we always bring the safety down to the side of the one back set... Most screens sell the zone first. Am I wrong???
-
A4: as an OL guy, I have my offseason stuff set up for screen stuff as well. Make the big guys learn to love them early
-
Q5: In your Base D, what are your rules when recognizing a screen?
-
A4: Indy everyday. Good to run in Team against D at least once per week-if it works on guys who know it, you're doing it right.
-
Q5: In your Base D, what are your rules when recognizing a screen?
-
A4: Have run screen game vs. trash cans/cones/dummies during early install - spring/summer. Get a feel for where everybody fits.
-
I use the box drill for screen technique and just blocking in space...good for working up to 2nd level too
-
A4) ALL with bags. FAT ASS D-LINE NEVER GET UP FIELD IN PRACT. ANYWAY!
"SCREEN ELEMENT"
1- CORNER
2- FORCE
3- "RAT KILL"
"
-
A4 at least 2 screen periods a day equaling 30 minutes a week plus mixed in during team periods
-
a4: Screens on dummies may be the most important drill we do all practice. We work getting to our landmarks
-
Screens go a long way if you are good at them...even better when they expect a screen to come https://t.co/NPV9jaV6Z6
-
-
A4: Spend ton of time in screen period. Always include in team script. Its a BIG part of who we are - gets BIG min. in practice.
-
Have a day set to work screens. Screen game period. I like to teach off fronts
-
A5: If the line blocks for a second and bails. Its fools gold
-
A4-Fast screens with bags/cones. Slow/Jails are with OL so everyone can see how the pieces fit together. OL paths and WR lanes.
-
A4: Have a kick out, alley, rat killer. Must stay flat for at least 10 YDS. Block 1st color.
-
Let me jot this down...you defensive guys don't be shy with your responses lol https://t.co/uxWpEYwLuK
-
-
Q5: In your Base D, what are your rules when recognizing a screen?
-
A3: Don't try and throw over defenders (Slip Screen) https://t.co/UaxaEmONg3
-
-
Q3: What rules do you have for your QB in your screens?
-
5 In our district and our region, the run is first, so if our linemen get a free release upfield, we teach them to find RB
-
A5) Know D & D tendencies... recognize free release... see if there is any tell on film... rb alignment, OL stance, etc...
-
Nobody should be shy...it's not like we are inventing the game here, just trying to get better! https://t.co/yXdnIjSVVr

Q5: In your Base D, what are your rules when recognizing a screen?

Nobody should be shy...it's not like we are inventing the game here, just trying to get better! https://t.co/8JU2Yv9ybO

Q5: In your Base D, what are your rules when recognizing a screen?
-
A4: QB/RB/WR work screens during pre-practice. OL during special teams. All together during group. Screen Period during team O
-
Our LB's key the RB, so whatever the RB's first step is, is the way our LB's are moving.
-
A5:our OLB read EMOL and drop to high hat keying RB leak on slip and safety keying #2 on fast screens. Simple and been effective
-
A5: Everyone keep the leverage you have on ball carrier. ABCs of D... Always Be Closing. Beat OL with speed in space
-
A1: TIMING. Got to break the D's spirit with well/timed screen. If unsuccessful for any number of reasons, SLOWS down the rush.
-
A4- integrated into our practice on a daily basis. Initially practiced against air, then at least two periods against JV.
-
A4 - defensively work screens as part of pursuit drill
-
A5: heard a DL coach say about OL releasing, "if it seems too good to be true, it is, now get your tail in pursuit" lol
-
A5: D-Line must get foot back in the ground & retrace when O-Line release, LB's & DB's take proper leverage angle.
-
A2 Depends on the screen call. Most have 2 or 3 options.
-
Travis Hobson. HC Century HS, Pocatello, ID. Just picking stuff up from you guys by the spoonful.
-
sweet, we've done the same and started using zones in blocking 2nd level instead of keying defender. Helps OL ID
-
A5) D line if it seems like you weren't blocked that hard there's a reason
-
A5: we are blessed to have DL that are so slow they never get upfield - we are always ready for the screen
-
A5: Tell DL- If you think you just made the greatest pass rush move of all time, it's a screen!
-
-
A5: Tell all 3 DL find the back"your move is not that good" One will still get fooled and that's where qb pressure comes from
-
A5) we are a 3-3 team that plays mostly zone. be great with your eyes/react to what you see. GET TO BROWN BALL WITH- ATTITUDE!
-
A5:Like inside guys to check QB. Others retrace and want one LB or DB to attack the screen and divide it.
-
A4: Kickout usually handles force. At 10 alley player gets square blocks 1st color, rat killer looks for anything inside-out.
-
-
-
A5)dline retrace their steps when they smell a rat. LBS need to see release of oline so we can rally and tackle.
-
Draw up & post your box drill when you get a chance https://t.co/TrpQAaVZGd
-
-
A4:I am wrong to assume that most coaches practice the box drill with their OL when working on screens. Better drills 4 screens?
-
-
A5: DL should be able to read if OL is trying to disengage bc they are taught to get hands on first, so then stop & redirect!
-
A5) as a secondary guy depends on coverage. Don't busy coverage Tryna make a play be aware of slips!
-
Q6: Do you base your screen game plan on your opponent? Or is it a large part of your offensive philosophy?
-
A4 Skill screens on air with cones and team screen vs bags are 2 favs. Work a lot of 2-on-2 drill for fast screen RPO's
-
Q6: Do you base your screen game plan on your opponent? Or is it a large part of your offensive philosophy?
-
Can the Tampa 2 defense work in high school football?
-
when we use it for 2nd level blocking, I will reduce the space defender has to move
-
loving the of this chat!!! I think chip Kelley would approve
-
A6: Is a compliment or deceptive play of one or more of our base plays. Protect your base plays in many ways
-
A4 we work a key defender drill for QB's for our multiple concept screens and RPO screen tags.
-
A6: personally, I think screens are a dangerous weapon, and should be a part of your offensive philosophy. We put ours in early
-
A6: We have base screens. Blocked the same. Our opponents will determine the window dressing like motions, play action, etc.
-
A6: Our O it's a LARGE part, lots of screens, RPOs that are screens & each guy has a screen he gets his # called on.
-
A6: Both. Base screens off high volume run plays, but schemed screens for edge pressure teams. Especially to the boundary.
-
A5: Seriously though, we play a ton of man and our LBers are good at seeing screens develop and communicate effectively
-
A6: Screen game doesn't change from week to week few amount of screens get damn good at them!
-
A6 definitely our ID...how many ways can we make the same scheme look different. Always looking for good screens
-
A3: if cloudy, throw the ball at their feet, never anywhere else
-
A6) we screen everybody and try early and often. Now screens and go are cheapest weapons in an offenses Arsenal. Set the hook
-
A6: However, which screens and how much you run them can influenced by opponent sure
-
A6:we have our same concepts always,we will tag them on to certain plays based on how defense is reacting to motion or alignment
-
A6) More of situational football then gameplanning of opponent......for us its about SLOWING DOWN THE DEFENSE
-
-
A6 usually, easy throws that allow your "dudes" to get the ball In space
-
How about the old Buddy Ryan 46 Defense? Just curious.
-
A6: Don't be surprised if your not a good screening team if you don't rep it.
-
-
A6: Mostly philosophy. Can gameplan specific guys/teams sometimes. If it isn't part of O already, hard to rep enough in 3 days.
-
For me it's a large part of my philosophy. It's more about the type of skill player & even OL https://t.co/m9YV8UIFKF
-
-
Q6: Do you base your screen game plan on your opponent? Or is it a large part of your offensive philosophy?
-
A6: They are HUGE part of who we are offensively. We're gonna rep them, run them vs. anybody. May dress it up, add tag vs. opp.
-
-
lives by the cut'em all philosophy! If you're on the field you might get cut down. https://t.co/VPp30vYNaT
-
-
Q6: Do you base your screen game plan on your opponent? Or is it a large part of your offensive philosophy?
-
It's a multiple concept screen with 3 options. 1 pre snap, then 2 post snap options.
-
A6: O dictates to the D. Formation it up. Make them stop it. Need an answer when they want to get greedy stopping em
-
A1: EFFORT, screens are all about effort. Great effort on a screens and OLine throwing their body around you get success.
-
A6 Screens are a dangerous part of any offense if done correctly. I also love faking the screen and trying to hit a deep ball
-
Now if they have a stud DL or 2 it may show up very early very fast. https://t.co/m9YV8UIFKF
-
-
Q6: Do you base your screen game plan on your opponent? Or is it a large part of your offensive philosophy?
-
-
A6: Both. opp scout for some of the RB screens. WR screens is what we try and be consistent doing week in week out.
-
A6: Off Phil! Def has to see on film that they will need to defend SL to SL the whole game!! extension of our outside run game
-
-
-
-
A6- mixture of both. We will throw qks bc that's who we are & it allows us to play fast, slows will be based on opponent.
-
A5: Our commitment to screen on O has helped us defend them. Kids see ton all year - have several INTs vs. screen last few yrs.
-
-
A6: run a lot of screens, part of our run game especially if we are outmanned up front. Get them big boys tired early.
-
A6: They fit in to our philosophy of getting the ball to playmakers, but the screens we run depend on the gameplan
-
Q7: If caught in a blitz on the screen, what are your coaching points to the DL and LBs?
-
Q7: If caught in a blitz on the screen, what are your coaching points to the DL and LBs?
-
A6 - Screens will always be what we do. Only scheme for landmarks on different alignments. We want the D to adjust to us.
-
Defense gets to finish with the chalk tonight, lol
-

If it's to easy it's to easy for a reason. https://t.co/JySTzSrBuf
-
-
A5: If the line blocks for a second and bails. Its fools gold
-
A7: spying on the enemy, getting some learning done on question 7
-
A6 opponent doesnt matter, front or coverage doesnt matter, down and distance doesnt matter
-
A7) Retrace... Run... take good angles...dont give up... pursue... same as all plays
-
Q4: Show diagram, then video. OL (only) walk through tracks w/stationary targets while Skills rep it vs air. OL then half speed
-
A7: Caught red handed... Pressure stays on, hit or disrupt throw.
-
A7)if no one is spying screen draw we heat em up until it's out of QBS hand then we rally like heck.
-
A7: Run. Fast. Pursuit angles. If they ain't in the end zone, the play ain't over.
-
A7:this answer is one word that I have been reading all night... EFFORT! Preach it, Own it, Live it! Your D better have it.
-
A6: get the ball to play makers early, let's your big guys feast on the secondary, keeps defense off balanced.
-
A7: if they let you go, retrace, you ain't sacking the QB on a screen, find the screen guy. know your attack angle
-
7- If we are on a blitz and get caught in a screen, we hope like hell we can sack the QB. Otherwise, tip our hat to the O
-
A6 it's part of our offense, take what they give you and take advantage of their aggressiveness
-
THIS...Play to the whistle! https://t.co/MiMiaNuXco
-
-
A7: Run. Fast. Pursuit angles. If they ain't in the end zone, the play ain't over.
-

-
A7: Run. Fast. Pursuit angles. If they ain't in the end zone, the play ain't over.
-
A7: Like said, pressure the QB to make a quick (& hopefully bad) throw. Rally and Pursue.
-
-
-
A7: Blitzer doesn't slow down and gets a shot on the QB. If he is accelerating his gap he should get to the QB in a hurry!
-
A7: frustrates us on Offense when we get a blitz vs a screen and it's all set up and BAM, dang d-linemen bats it down.
-
-
Best part about tunnel is that you might score a TD without blocking anyone!
-
A7: retrace and retreat. If you aren't being blocked, it's not because you are that good...it's a SCREEN.
-
-
A7: When blitzing LBs we will have a fire blitzer to side of RB that is attacking the near hip of the RB, this helps on screens
-
Q4 (cont) Vs moving defenders w/bags. Next, skills + OL vs air. Then add defenders. Repeat vs likely pressures/COV scenarios
-
A7:Retrace and find the ball. PURSUIT. Really work on recognizing screen blocks when blitzing.
-
Plus it helps when you have 5 DB's with sub 4.5 speed to catch up if we don't sack the QB!!
-
I will be looking forward to diving into that ASAP!
-
-
-
that sounds like those RPO voodoo plays y'all run. Or the triple option. Score without blocking is a good play!
-
Slightly off topic, but are there any run heavy teams in that are dominantly succesful?
-
Coach I 100% agree. If you have to spent time coaching effort/attitude on your team nothing is going to work.
-
-
Thank you for your hard work
-
-
great chat tonight! Learned a lot about the screen game that I didn't know previously.
-
Thanks / was great as usual
