A1: Building school communities allows students to feel connected and safe. When students feel a sense of belonging, they perform better academically and misbehaviors decrease. #admin2b
A1) It's like the saying: It takes a village.... Having a strong learning community creates a better learning experience on every level. Collaboration between teachers, parents, the community help socially, emotionally, and academically. #Admin2B
A1: When I think of community, I think of a group of individuals that support each other and that is an important factor when striving for academic/ professional success. #admin2b
I’m reading Conscious Classroom Management for a training I’m giving. Would love to connect with you to hear all about the workshop. Was the workshop given by Rick Smith? #admin2b
A1:W/o a sense of belonging, engagement is unlikely. Building community allows for cognitive & affective engagement. People must feel safe before they can risk. Through community, vulnerability/risk taking/growth become possible. #admin2b
A2: One thing we try to do is a Back 2 School Bash for faculty and staff to kickoff the year getting to know each other and catch up from summer break. This is done outside of school hours to take some of the daily pressures off. #Admin2B
A2: Think about doing something outside the school for all staff. Picnic for everyone and their families, visit a Great Escape Room. Anything to have fun. #admin2b
A2: Summer retreats where team building activities take place are always great ways for people to establish connections and learn about others’ strengths, weaknesses, and interests. #admin2b
A2: I’ve seen staff outings from obstacle course running to picnics, the point is to get to know your staff before students ever step in the door! Spend time together to build community #admin2b
I would require more team building activities during staff developments when students do not report. This way we can get to know one other before students arrive. #admin2b
A2: Remember not everyone can participate in before school actives. It does not mean they don’t want to be part of the community. Just other things have to come first. #admin2b
I am taken back to the first week of school when we are drowned with PLC’s, trainings, and “beginning of the school year” tasks. As colleagues, we rarely have a chance to build relationships with one another. #admin2b
A3: Learning their names, being intentional abt having conversations with each student & getting to know them during lunch, classroom visits, etc. I believe that the sum of + interactions w students will make an undeniable impact. #admin2b
I try to build relationships with my students by taking the time to get to know them on a personal level. I interact with them and ask questions about likes/dislikes during breakfast and recess. We eat lunch together in the classrooms on Fridays as well. #Admin2B
A3: Spend time learning about each other, circles, games, “I am” stories and poems, have Ss share with one another, as Ts: participate with your students to build community! #admin2b
I have always believed that at the b ginning of the year we should have minimal meetings so teachers can do what they need to be ready for the 1st day. #admin2b
Knowing a students name can go a long way! When I run into kids outside of school and call them by there name I can tell it makes them feel important! #Admin2B
A4: Invite them in to the school for events, and into the classroom to share their expertise and knowledge, have Ss create community PBLs and present them in the community, get connected via social media too! #admin2b
A3: build relationships with students outside the classroom as well as inside. Meeting students when parents drop them off. When they get off the bus. #admin2b
A4: Sending a letter/email or doing home visits before school starts & continue with ongoing communication with parents and families throughout the year, inviting them to school events and to be the public audience for student work… #admin2b
I give my parents my personal cell #. I set ground rules for how/when to use it and for the most part follow them. It lets them know I am available to them for their child, and opens the lines of communication. Has worked wonders! #Admin2B
A3: I would want staff members to exhibit community building. This can be with something minor like greeting students in the hallway or as they walk in class. Students should have examples to follow and staff should model expected behavior. #admin2b
Thank you for joining #admin2b tonight. Next week’s topic is: “Creating and sustaining a culture of learning and excellence.” Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week. :)
Home visits b4 school starts, parent committee, survey to parents to see what they are interested in doing with our school, parents volunteering/signing up for planning evening events with Our school staff, positive phone calls home. #admin2b
A4: I try to keep parents/ families involved by using https://t.co/vM8MnU8yue and Google Classroom to post important information regarding students, upcoming assignments, events, etc. I also have a school webpage but I am not great with posting information there. #admin2b
