The question becomes "what should (student) teachers know?" - and if that is limited then it needs less time, I suppose.

In the States we observed/“participated” straight away. Two dear friends of mine bailed and went on to other rewarding careers.

Another factor to take into account is most of what tchrs needs to know (apart frm subject knowledge!) is learned on the job!
