  • languagesdude Oct 9 @ 3:39 PM EDT
To be honest , with the demands of teaching I don’t think it can be taught in schools , there is just so much theory behind it #edchatie
  • AshDonohoe Oct 9 @ 3:39 PM EDT
I think there's more to be learned by time spent in school more so than in college! Might also bring down costs for students. #edchatie
    In reply to @fboss
  • languagesdude Oct 9 @ 3:41 PM EDT
pricing is mad for teacher training. seeing that there is always issues with funding in universities , you can see what #edchatie

I would have to stand by a need for balance. Both placement and college are valuable. #edchatie
  • fboss Oct 9 @ 3:46 PM EDT
Are we saying it's either college or an apprenticeship model - or could it be both? #edchatie
  • foleyfurniture Oct 9 @ 3:46 PM EDT
Fantastic topic #edchatie Besides the costs, I wonder what are the biggest issues facing postgraduate students on PME courses?

  • AshDonohoe Oct 9 @ 3:46 PM EDT

    In reply to @j_loughlin, @fboss
  • d14rmuid Oct 9 @ 3:46 PM EDT
#edchatie there could be a better balance with more school based training, not quite an apprenticeship but something not too far removed
  • Mat6453 Oct 9 @ 3:46 PM EDT
Needs a balance, schools can show lots but students need time 2 reflect and schools don’t have that time to spare with so much else #edchatIE

Or even use it as an opportunity to show the advantages of team teaching #edchatie
  • CuffeL Oct 9 @ 3:48 PM EDT
Both. But face time with students to practice on is more significant that college based theory. #edchatie

The issue of value is a really complicated... personally I think that Initial Teacher Ed needs a University component. #edchatie
  • SeanOGraTek Oct 9 @ 3:57 PM EDT
For many of our students, time(2yrs) is as big a issue as fees. Blended on-line & distance teaching from Uni should be considered #edchatIE

Another factor to take into account is most of what tchrs needs to know (apart frm subject knowledge!) is learned on the job! #edchatie

#edchatie teaching is an incredibly complex, demanding and fulfilling profession and as such needs mix of theory and practice

But I suppose my beliefs would be that there is a lot a teacher needs to know because the role of a teacher is so broad #edchatie.
