A1 I have been going to ATIA for close to 20 years now--I remember when it was in the Radisson across from Universal! I love it b/c of the networking opportunities! #atchat
A1: I thought the conference was especially good this year. I thought there was a nice diverse set of presentations. I am like @KarenJan I never left the hotels! #ATchat
A1: It was a great few days of very strong presentations, interesting exhibitors, but it was the networking and peopleās willingness to share that stood out to me. #ATchat

I have not attended ATIA since 2010 when I presented on Picture Comm. in the PreK Classroom. It was wonderful to see all the improvement in our field! Loved AT Maker Day, and I always love exploring the show room!! This is my second year as an AT Coordinator #ATchat#ATIA18
A1 Iām a repeat offender at the ATIA conference. I thought this yearās was fabulous! I was especially excited by all the interactive activities including smack downs, town halls, ed camp and the maker day! So many resources, so many generous folks sharing not enuf time! #ATchat
A1: #ATIA18 was my first time. My overall impression was a little overwhelmed with all the technology and choices for sessions. @Microsoft completely blew me away with their #accessibility options and I enjoyed the #PD smackdown #atchat

#atchat A2) Presenting on teacher-therapist collaboration and building an AT team in two different session were very exciting for me! The EdCamp was incredibly inspiring in a number of ways. I also took so much away from @possbeth talk on cultural proficiency!
A2: The Preconference with @KarenJan and @iplante was incredible. I met really enthusiastic people AND I brought home a suitcase of new ideas and tech! next year I will NOT miss edcamp! #ATchat
A2: More than one thing- connecting with like minded professionals in this amazing work we do. Stepping out of my comfort zone and presenting. Celebrating the power of this community. #atchat
A2 I was most excited by the energy around the AT Maker Faire thanks to the brilliance of @at_makers and @CEO_ATIA Those kids were fantastic, as were @JudithSchoonov1 Therese Wilkomen and everyone who showed of their making skills! #atchat

Bill, you really pulled off an amazing event! So much sharing. I said it to you before: You built a bridge between two communities with a common goal - to solve problems! #ATchat
#atchat I agree. As my other hat, I am an SLP team lead and I will be sharing the presentation and information with my team as a whole, there is so much more we can do (especially since we are in a very diverse area)
It was great. So many amazing stories of success and changes in districts. People are talking reading and writing outcomes and even better Student Confidence! Plus look at all the people joining tonight! The excitement continues! #atchat
A2: I loved the new updates to Microsoft's accessibilty features. But what excited me most were the conversations about taking what we are learning and bringing it to the next level, improving our best practices and collaboration. #ATchat
Bill, you really pulled off an amazing event! So much sharing. I said it to you before: You built a bridge between two communities with a common goal - to solve problems! #ATchat
A2: I was excited to present on @aurasma āHP Revealā and how #AR can make your classroom come to life using #ASL for our #deaf students and to learn about new #AT and #accessibility options for the school setting. #ATchat
#atchat Here's a new one to add to the PD smackdown. CoTeaching where the STUDENT is the Co Teacher with the classroom teacher ! How awesome is that! #MishawakaWay@iStockTeach
Bill, you really pulled off an amazing event! So much sharing. I said it to you before: You built a bridge between two communities with a common goal - to solve problems! #ATchat
A3: I loved the Reading Comprehension Booster App and my world was changed by the 360 Thinking Time Tracker (maybe I can part with my old school clock now)! #ATchat
A3 In my own pre-con I learned so many new strategies for using visual supports from my co presenter including the importance of considering SING when thinking about reinforcements @themobuti#atchat
#atchat A3) There was so much about building capacity there. I am excited to impliment the POWER AAC modules from @gvantatenhove and friends! Also, thanks to @Lasenders I can't wait to dive into the Tiny Tap app, so many possibilities there!
#ATchat as a researcher I am excited about collaborations. We now have the technology tools widely available so we can focus on using the right tool for each student for their educational needs.
Agreed-this was awesome to see! Again-student focused! Doesn't it make you feel like our country is in good hands when you see all these brilliant students! I saw a high school girl talking to a 10 year old girl about coding and electronics. How cool is that! #atchat
(I forgot my hashtag -amateur!) Piping in as a vendor... @atiaorlando is always one of our favorite because most of the attendees are decision makers at one level or another. They care about AT and āget itā. So we make many great connections (and sales) #atchat

#atchat Capacity Building is key-there are not enough AT Specialists to meet all the needs of students in schools! AT has to be equitable because it is so powerful!

Where to begin?? š I would really encourage those who didnāt get to attend the session to review some of the slide decks of other presentations. I did that on my plane ride home and learned so much even for those sessions I couldnāt attend. #ATchat
A4: I incorporated several apps in my webinar I gave on Tuesday...very well received! I love gathering new ideas and pushing them out while they are fresh! #ATchat
A3. #atchat Even though I don't own a smart speaker, I'm seriously thinking about purchasing one in the near future. Our discussion at the AT Town Hall Meeting pushed me over the edge to become a somewhat (late) adopter.
This was HUGE! I feel like this certification could be a game changer in the world of UDL! You know when you feel a shift happening...I felt it in that session! #ATchat
#ATchat as a researcher I am excited by all of the interest in research! I can't do research without the support of the community. I can say for sure that text-to-speech tools have compensatory effects on reading comprehension but we need to know how and why.
Community is right. We miss the folks who arenāt there, @attipscast , celebrate the ones who return @SMarfilius and hope we will be altogether to learn and share next year! #ATchat#ATIA18#ATIA19

A4: Although nothing physical yet, I would say I have come back with a shift in mindset on how to approach the implementation of technology with an emphasis on an UDL approach. #ATchat
Many of my students are learning disabled and/or have dyslexia. They are the āborderlineā to receive official AT in the classroom. Any suggestions I can do in the classroom? #ATchat
We need to identify the methods that best promote capacity building. I really do want to work myself out of a job so that AT is ubiquitous and specialists are unnecessary. #ATchat

My best takeaway? Having multiple participants speak to me about how much my session helped them think differently and what they were taking back to their setting. #atchat
Slowly....very, very slowly! There were so many tools that looked incredible, but I personally try to select one that I think would resonate the most with the needs of our students and start from there. #ATchat

A4 I picked up some great new ideas for using @GoogleKeep including the text recognition/OCR feature. Business cards are all now in my Keep! Thanks @mmatp#atchat

#atchat What do you mean they are borderline on AT in the classroom? Do you need to prove a big discrepancy? I was surprised to hear how many people are using PAR and uPAR and using data to drive decisions @DonJohnstonInc

A3: at #ATIA18 I learned how Microsoft Translator can be used to provide #accessibility during my future #PD sessions. Instead of CART, the translator can provide live captions on the screen with the PowerPoint. Excited to try it #atchat
With my school districtās guidelines they donāt meet criteria for any personal AT devices. We have some iPads in my school & was looking for different apps to include in my daily instruction to best assist them with tasks. #atchat

One of the best sessions for me was listening to Jordyn, an AAC using college student who is autistic. She didn't get a voice until 18! How does that happen? must read - https://t.co/KiXciVaJVm#ATchat#ATIA18
#ATchat I received similar feedback and my audience/conversations at the conference have really helped my thinking about my own research. Thank you everyone for the great conversation at my session. #ATIA18
Elementary- Tumblebooks? Curriculum that has tech in both places? Video with closed captions? Books should be accessible (ie text to speech, highlighters) not just on a computer because it's cool, but because it helps extend learning. #tcrwp#ATChat

#atchat I am so bummed I missed this one! There are way too many kids on alt degrees and AT never considered! Yikes.... I see that changing however in districts building capacity and using data to screen! I'm more hopeful than ever! We need to hear more student voices!
@jordynbzim is an amazing presenter. It was important to hear her voice and perspective at #ATIA18. But it was shocking to hear she didn't get AT/AAC unitl she was 18. #ATchat
A5) Iām always amazed at how few folks in AT have a tech background. When I explained Mooreās Law and how AT was not benefitting I got #OMG responses from so many. We need to fix that! #atchat
She shared that her IQ was tested at something like 69. Of course they never gave her a voice and she is now studying special ed and pre-law at Ohio State (I think). #ATchat

A5 #atchat From the AT Bootcamp at #ATIA18, all participants were first time attendees and approximately one third of them came from an IT position.. what does that say about the change in our AT industry?
A4:I havenāt tried anything YET, still trying to wrap my head around everything Iāve learned. Thankful for @shelleypa@rmtc_wilmot@handchatter27 to help me sort through all the new information. #ATchat
We've had this conversation since the first rendition of the PAR! It's so exciting to see data behind it that will help people to see the power and value of TTS supports for ALL students! #ATChat

A6 I attended both and they are both part of what makes #ATIA18 so unique! The conversations and learning that happened, as a result, are always affirming and even life-changing. Where else do you get to solve all the problems of the world in the course of 24 hours?? #atchat
I hope that this is a side by side initiative versus being taken over. If it is the latter, I hope that even MORE PD happens and more attendance at important conferences continues! #ATchat
We need to help solve this problem. Just because the technology exists does not mean it will be implemented or offered to student. I have seen this in many rural school districts for students with dyslexia. #ATchat
#atchat That would be so cool. I'm part of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) which transforms HS students. There are also Robotics competitions...I love just creating awareness & fun but maybe soon we can get competitions!
A7: How fast the conference went!! I'd love to see more sessions focused on students with learning disabilities and high incidence needs. There were some and the rooms were packed for them...I think that says we need more! #atchat
The youth giving to others at AT Maker day was just so amazing. It gave me hope for the future. We owe @CEO_ATIA and @at_makers and those groups a huge thank you for making it happen! #ATChat#ATIA18
A7 #atchat That #ATIA18 only happens once a year. Suggestion - I made a personal commitment to become more involved with #ATChat so I can gain back the energy I felt last week. Seriously - the "love" shown to me personally was overwhelming - thanks.
A5: My biggest takeaway from #ATIA18 is to continue to be open minded, ready to learn, and willing.Everyone can provide new information, a different perspective, or help you gain new insight. I had a takeaway from each session or person I spoke with #ATchat
Join us next week to discuss the AT practitioners role as a collaborative coach! I will be guest moderating! Don't you want to spend Valentines Day with me?? #atchat

It is an interesting feature for sure and good to have in your "toolbox"; it can serve as an option but NOT a replacement for quality CART (longtime CART user speaking here...) The accuracy is higher in more controlled sound environments. @at_makers@KarenJan
#atchat thanks mike. Iāve been trying to stay afloat. Kids are involved in everything right now so we are running all the time and the balance is gone. I still read thru the chats. Been doing some great stuff w VR & autism with @JacWickham. Maybe we can make it next year.
