that's awesome! thanks for joining in tonight!
Debbie, EdTech TOSA, Burbank, My brother has always been a big inspiration. Helps me in my journey to always be better.
Great to see you again Denise!
A1: Teachers can wade out into edtech starting at substitution, getting comfortable, then taking the plunge towards redefinition.
Karly, was going to mention your new pic, too! Love it!
Looks like Q1 was practically written for YOU Rachel! =) https://t.co/W2PtfNUl7Y
Rachel, K-5 Instructional Coach in snowy Bozeman, MT
i listen at work on the desktop version. only kinda helps
Hey almost feels like summer in SoCal so it's a good week already!
Thank you Ann! I have been MIA all this month. School and life exploded! Glad to be chatting tonight!
A1: I like visuals of diff tools used for each level of . Helps show progress. Better than a ladder.
Please help me welcome Hilary, my newest colleague in PAUSD. https://t.co/IeyjcOcmd4
Hilary - PAUSD TOSA - Inspired by trying something new

welcome to the party again glad you're here!
Oooh Oooh Oooh! Q1- love me some !
A1: The SAMR provides a context for coaching conversations. When meeting to plan this graphic is helpful to imagine more.
Welcome to Team AWESOME Hilary!
good chat tonight then...you know...change!
DAN!!!!! HI! So glad you're here! & Yay for our moderator!
A1: I think of Blooms first and SAMR second. How can we get kids to create? Then how can we maximize audience and awesomeness!
Are the words substitution, augmentation, modification & redefinition common language among your Ts?
Had a great conversation about at last week’s with & others.
A1: You don't have to always jump into the deep end to have a fun time. I enjoy sometimes just testing the waters.
A1: Worried that this may make people think that diving in means great integration. Not always the case though.
SAMR helps me remember not to add something just because I can, but because I should.
Exposing Ts SAMR gives them context and a lens. Important to show them examples from all levels and encourage them to dabble!
David from VA. crashing for a few minutes!
I'm prepared like never before!!! (Up..until quesiton 6...then...then my super-powers run out) https://t.co/HZQxnlaQiL
Haha! On the heels of . How 'bout that...
I am wondering if a we should do like a late nite infomercial about change
Do your students know what stands for? Do they use those words in class? If no...why not?
A1cont: I have always loved sharing SAMR with my students. Gives them power & ownership to evaluate my teaching.
Just keep swimming. is a swimming pool not a ladder. https://t.co/BbvlfP3vnp
A1: I like visuals of diff tools used for each level of . Helps show progress. Better than a ladder.
A1: maybe you are thinking of ? https://t.co/lWafEfTWHa
A1: I think of Blooms first and SAMR second. How can we get kids to create? Then how can we maximize audience and awesomeness!
Mario from in East LA. EdTech Coach, ELA instructional Coach, Design Think/RJ Coordinator. My parents inspire me
A1 SAMR helps us give teachers examples and ideas for where their lessons may fall on the model.
thanks the feeling is mutual!
Good thing to, Galavant just started!! <.<...>.>....>.<!!
Always be mindful of where you are in the swimming pool.
Blooms of teacher integration.
i like to poor that one as the hot fudge on top!!
Paul, it's seriously RAD! glad you joined in tonight!!!
A1 SAMR is just one path. TOSAs need to adapt to different ways of teacher adoption. It's a human skill.
A1. I am new to the SAMR model. But, I copied the pic onto my laptop. Looks really useful!
Is one level of "better" than the other? Is transformation "better" than enhancement? How are they different?
A1: models like SAMR remind me that we all can grow, no matter where in the process we are.
Also appreciate others in diff places.
A1:While some teachers are most comfortable beginning at Substitution level SAMR, it is fully acceptable to dive into Redefinition
. need to speak the SAMR truth for all to get the truth. https://t.co/YdrdyDPe6V
Do your students know what stands for? Do they use those words in class? If no...why not?
Well said. Be purposeful, intentional, mindful of objectives & value. https://t.co/WGJLLyAnpn
SAMR helps me remember not to add something just because I can, but because I should.
dunno....hello Chonger...you here?
A1- SAMR is the model my district is using to inform & guide Tech Integration. I've used it with 100 Ts in
Hi Hillary! Welcome to . It's lovely!
YES! https://t.co/1oyT1b97HA
A1: models like SAMR remind me that we all can grow, no matter where in the process we are.
Also appreciate others in diff places.
A1 samr gives us a path of growth and framework for how tech can be integrated to empower not just replace
The one that supports learning best is the best.
I still think there is a lot to be gained from as well - honors veteran teachers’ content/pedagogy https://t.co/GzStE7X4Ux
Nope, each one has a time & place in the classroom & PD. Ts & TOSAs know their content & context best! https://t.co/Jfrkf3lorD
Is one level of "better" than the other? Is transformation "better" than enhancement? How are they different?
A1 Ts have to take baby steps and embrace the Sub if that is where they're at, but if u are a playa, Mods/Redefs is where its at!
Love it, don’t we? Great to continue the conversation.
A1 SAMR the swimming pool. A guide for Ts as we integrate tech with Ss. Substitution isn't bad, just don't tread there too long!
A1: SAMR really hit me philosophically. I like to focus on global audience and allowing kid voice to effect change.
I've been inspired by him and his hat too
A1: I see SAMR as any metric, it's a way in which we compare where we are to where we want to be.
Depends on the user and the activity. If I could get some to just substitute the doors will be open to more
Welcome Mario. Great to recognize the inspiration from your parents.
. agreed. Also, no treading water!
I think it depends on how you need to tap into the learner. What learner are you reaching out to?
Yes! It's all about empowering student learning! https://t.co/Cbg9HT7W1N
The one that supports learning best is the best.
What tools can you provide Ts to prep for transformation?
A1:I love how this visual shows the in a model. Iterate and modify to constantly improve and create!
I'm sure we'll glean even more with the continued conversation!
YAY! then it's meant to be!!!
. search for and also for models of tech integration. Pedagogy first! https://t.co/QSCT2wKzYe
A1. I am new to the SAMR model. But, I copied the pic onto my laptop. Looks really useful!
OK I'm just going to ditto all of Jeremiah's tweets. Aaaaannnnndddd BOOM goes the dynamite! https://t.co/1OU2Y58cTw
A1: I see SAMR as any metric, it's a way in which we compare where we are to where we want to be.
love this one for sure!!!
Absolutely, we could target it to show change isn't scary, may help Ben out a little
Definitely need to add to this. Ari & I have similar views on SAMR.
I'm STUCK in an ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre!
Great point! Ss should know it just as Ts should!
i'm never changing my pic except maybe adding some grey to the bread :p
Hi Lisa!!! glad you're here tonight!
And so this continues. :)
it's easy to fall into the sand trap of using tech just because we can. SAMR helps us remember why
. levels of not sequential or linear, but rather are interconnect. Match tool to task https://t.co/vsSMWlwFxW
Is one level of "better" than the other? Is transformation "better" than enhancement? How are they different?
Definitely. Ari? Where are you?!
Thanks! I appreciate the tips! I am just starting this tech coach road!
great answer from a newbie! Welcome to !
Must respect "old school"(pun intended) methods as well and the blend of both classic and tech-infused teaching.
thanks friend....just trying to keep up and my fingers are cold... tough combo! haha!
A1: SAMR brings awareness to Ts to be purposeful -the graphic illustrates increasing complexity to better explore possibilities
Okay, 'fess up... You're googling these, right?!
😀 Hi Ann! Thanks! Same here.
I'm cracking up over here!!!
Yes. Let’s chat about this too. I tweeted earlier that pitfall of SAMR is seeing it as a ladder. https://t.co/K16tKXr2yc
it's easy to fall into the sand trap of using tech just because we can. SAMR helps us remember why
SAMR helps teachers recognize and understand meaningful tech integration - gives them context and something to aim for!
A1b: I am more interested in how we define the SAMR model. Is it discrete or continuous? In what ways do we divide groups? etc.
I like TPACK for Teacher Planning and SAMR for Reflecting on student activities/products
when we use SAMR, we make sure tech isn't just bells and whistles
And also honors the lens that tech - like any tool - needs to be applied deliberately and thoughtfully. https://t.co/jLcVQMnbuW
Must respect "old school"(pun intended) methods as well and the blend of both classic and tech-infused teaching.
Glad you're here did they get you into the Voxer group yet!???
YES! "Iterate and modify." What it's all about. How can we push our lessons into A, M and beyond? https://t.co/EvHqiEyyBr
A1:I love how this visual shows the in a model. Iterate and modify to constantly improve and create!
Well said, Susan. Context is very important for deeper learning.
Denise do you need in to the voxer group? DM me and you're in!
HA HA nope! LOL See "not just a hat rack my friends" ;)
I’m late, ! But I’m here! Darn cub scout meeting :). Need to find the questions now...
love this, but I find it difficult when people idealize Redefinition I'm all about balance and pedagogy
many teachers (self included) aren't digital natives.
A1: If we remain in Substitution on SAMR model, we simply use technology for technology's sake. Tech must drive learning.
Don't get exhausted, call a lifeguard if you need (TOSA) & floaties (scaffolds) are allowed!
A2: You left off the starting blocks. The original hurdle.
A2: TIME. That’s the answer after every PD. Teachers always want more time to learn, explore, play, …
Not sure if I know what SAMR stands for
Follow she is tweeting them out =)
Nope - they just looped on the TV during college… so they’re mostly memorized
A1c: Are each rep's of equal size, or is it more exponential? How might we define rate of change both tangentially and avg
BOOM - part deux! Exactly. https://t.co/FNaWsEonlE
A1: I see SAMR as any metric, it's a way in which we compare where we are to where we want to be.
. key is to not think that just bc you use Tech it's better. Substitution is limiting https://t.co/qHmXrOooBt
Depends on the user and the activity. If I could get some to just substitute the doors will be open to more
Right on. This feels like maybe a reincarnation of
cc
Lurking as talks about TPACK and SAMR. Both were featured in my grad class tonight. Might have to chime in.
and we're there with a towel if need be...or goggles...or a snorkel mask...or a submarine for two!
A2: I think one of the greatest challenges is reimagining what education can be. Imagining what is possible with the tools we have.
I did the same thing BEN!
Wonderful tweet! https://t.co/VUXVNAH5Oa
Don't get exhausted, call a lifeguard if you need (TOSA) & floaties (scaffolds) are allowed!
Oh, I follow . She’s my people.
After I tweeted that I realized I meant open up a column for her lol. Of COURSE we ALL follow her!
A2: Differing levels of tech savvy amongst Ss. How long do I give to a project when some finish so quickly and others...4eva!
A2: fear coming from the non-digital natives (self included)
great perspective... true words John!
OOOOoo Hi jen! I feel likethey go hand in hand - pedagogy and integration
I am jumping into tonight. My tweets for next hour are on this subject. I am Ryan Tech TOSA from Rocklin CA
A2: Ts say there isn't time with all they have to teach, but you can sometimes dive deeper in the content w/meaningful tech.
Like deep thoughts with Jack Handy
A2 Time and management when implementing new tech. We can help by going in and supporting the IN the classroom.
A2: They look at tech as another subject rather than the method of learning! Help them overcome w/ the good stuff
great question... and Ss are so different that it's not likely to be one size fits all...
What's important about SAMR is to know where you lessons are on the model.
A2: Confidence, time, training
That's a very different and interesting take, how might that look? I don't know a metric for maturity levels?
A2: Common hurdle for teacher tech use = fear of failure. Coaches & admin using new tech in staff mtgs encourages risk taking.
Well said! SAMR reminds us of the pedagogy that is (hopefully) the impetus for the tech in the first place!
I admire those that can stay consistent, I cannot, I need to move continuously
A2; The biggest one Ts say is time. but i feel like i see lack of confidence more.
A2: let's not forget the need for tech devices, support, and that ever elusive wifi
she's having family time...balance is good, but sad she's mssing out!
Yes. Be mindful of where you are. Be purposeful, be intentional.
Hurdle 2- TIME. I think that’s the biggest challenge. I help by having just-in-time content online. https://t.co/aOKIsRnawX
A2: biggest hurdles in my district? Time, lack of student devices, lack of internet access for Ss.
A2: TIME, making the investment to learn is difficult for tech naive Ts
A2: Sometimes the fear of failure prevents us from taking risks. Especially true with teachers and tech https://t.co/8flBcMf6vN
if I change my twitter icon everyone will think coach ben feel of the earth
A2 Probably confidence. Often the rest of them are outside of their responsibilities.
A2. In my location, Ts have been teaching w/out tech for so long that they are not sure how to start using it.
glad you're here to learn about SAMR then...agree with on TPACK too!
Great metaphor!!! Get in da pool! https://t.co/xZZI8l6kCb
Don't get exhausted, call a lifeguard if you need (TOSA) & floaties (scaffolds) are allowed!
It all goes back to relationships! If they feel comfortable they won't be afraid to fail forward. https://t.co/UlT0XeaNyr
A2: Common hurdle for teacher tech use = fear of failure. Coaches & admin using new tech in staff mtgs encourages risk taking.
A2: Colleagues who refuse to treat Ts as Colleagues, allies, or equals.
😐🍎Shabana Jameel, M.Ed™
It should be used to help design universal access to education. All Learners ;)
Yep. No Voxer after she gets home. Heard her message earlier.
A2 Been my experience that Ts that hesitate w tech feel they hv 2 know b4 they use it & its simply not true. That's were we help
Lead by example; offer help and enthusiasm!
THANK YOU! I'd love to see cross school collab to even further the time savings!
A2: deciding to run a race with hurdles rather than the same old sprint.
So many graphics about SAMR. This is my fav though due to the diving analogy
Ah, good call. The column. Duh.
woot!! Good to see you here!!!
Figure out how you can utilize the ss that finish early. Can they start making something new for the class?
Unfamiliar, may I ask for more, sir, please sir
Lead by example AND learn together. Remember it’s okay to say "I don’t know, let’s learn together.” https://t.co/l95NCZWIlK
Lead by example; offer help and enthusiasm!
yes!! love this understanding!!
I think that's where the feedback/collaboration play an important role. All Ts need to be on board to A,M,& Beyond
reference is CMMI for organizations, but the idea is that it maturity does not strike at same time
A2: Time = biggest hurdle I hear. Learning curve takes time. Scary to think about the time investment in learning something new.
Yes, Lisa! Build a bank of ideas/lessons!
Right! We LOVE when Ryan is here in !
What might it mean for Ben to "feel of the earth"?
A2 a lot of Ts say time, but the key is to help Ts make the most of their time, help Ts find a start and a PLN to support them
. Can't dive off high dive into Deep End (REdef) without pain, unless ready. Ideal not = lrng https://t.co/1px1LameYg
love this, but I find it difficult when people idealize Redefinition I'm all about balance and pedagogy
love this Judy with a y tell me more!!
A2: Time (lack of) and intimidation when exploring new tools.
You can start splitting up large topics and having groups dive deep & create something to teach the rest of the class.
Hello ! I’m Kathryn from Los Angeles ;)
OMG...I can't keep up!!! hahah!
A2: My job as a TOSA is to help Ts work smarter, not harder. Be more efficient, collaborate to save Time
A2: TIME is the biggest hurdle for my Ts. I try to work CREATING time into PD so that they can make something to use in class!
A2: Getting in the trenches w/teachers in PLCs & classrooms builds relationships, trust, & capacity. Hurdle to the method = time.
A2cont: Fear of the unknown is another hurdle. That’s where TOSAs & coaches can support.
A2 I find the language of SAMR is not real teacher friendly in the beginning and TPACK leaves out students.
PREACH! Love this https://t.co/BYrXpXJyLq
A2: My job as a TOSA is to help Ts work smarter, not harder. Be more efficient, collaborate to save Time
I love this sketchnote - it's a perfect way to understand SAMR!
You’re lucky I like you, Couch Ben.
A2: a lot has to do with technical support too. will network handle the load? will appletv drop in middle of lesson? etc
I totally have some understanding of the idea, I am wondering if a similar SAMR model could be developed?
It's always Time, and if you don't give T's the time to apply anything new, it often get's lost.
Hey is a ROCKSTAR math teacher at my site! *and she is chatting* :) https://t.co/Z0DXBJFvp4
Lead by example; offer help and enthusiasm!
A2:Ts hesitate to modify & use the tech to meet the needs of their Ss. They think the tech replaces their teaching.
Lack of internet access is a big one
I was just trying to find a link to that FABULOUS blog post about TECH! Please link it! https://t.co/c8Wu7sj20y
A2 I find the language of SAMR is not real teacher friendly in the beginning and TPACK leaves out students.
YES! Let us know how it goes.
A2: remind them that it’s alright to .
exactly like that!!! haha!!!
I just have content online. Full online Trainings. Hyperdocs. Screencasts. It’s in our LMS and in shared folders.
Many times I feel some TS dont trust students in the learning process https://t.co/Bqznby1xgI
A2: Colleagues who refuse to treat Ts as Colleagues, allies, or equals.
😐🍎Shabana Jameel, M.Ed™
forsure! we grow from challenges!
. welcome jedimaster Ryan https://t.co/Ib4NKztSKM
I am jumping into tonight. My tweets for next hour are on this subject. I am Ryan Tech TOSA from Rocklin CA
Q2: A lot of change and little time can be a preventative too
great way of showing differentiated instruction using tech!
I need to build more. I need to check your website out more!!!
Yes. And support = play time with these tech tools. Play builds confidence and sparks ideas.
You’re right: Especially for those who grew up when you could ‘break’ tech https://t.co/8lTgZvAabR
A2cont: Fear of the unknown is another hurdle. That’s where TOSAs & coaches can support.
Woot Woot! https://t.co/V00u2dkL7y
I am jumping into tonight. My tweets for next hour are on this subject. I am Ryan Tech TOSA from Rocklin CA
i'm an ELA TOSA in Campbell CA. i'm lucky to work with and :)
As soon as you get used to one thing, it changes to another.
Sure, egg on the disappointments. + sit back + laugh - more fuel on a 🔥.
So in what ways does this experience just described relate to the convo?
my frustration with SAMR is we can hung up on needing tech, some learning should be without tech - face2face, etc.
Tech specialist TOSA from Los Banos, trying to join the and keep up....
and we come along side and provide the support to help them build confidence...
Good points about limitations of both models! If you put them together, they make SMARTPACK… https://t.co/gRL46UaGqs
A2 I find the language of SAMR is not real teacher friendly in the beginning and TPACK leaves out students.
We shouldnt underestimate T confidence
A3: R&R. Have always said my kind of R&R=reflection & refinement. Def important after failure - chance to grow.
Do your Ts & Ss feel safe to take risks and try new things?
Huge Hurdle, but you can overcome. Try or I funded 1to1 classrooms with them
My dad was like that. The VCR was sacred when it first came home.
. also, getting overwhelmed with too much info which equals time to integrate https://t.co/y3kr8SIP0b
A2: TIME is the biggest hurdle for my Ts. I try to work CREATING time into PD so that they can make something to use in class!
A3: I think modeling struggle helps us with this as we Keep Moving Forward and stay positive and calm https://t.co/iFw0FW25Ua
A3: I like to use humor where it is welcome and then shrug and point out...Well that didn't work. Let's try something else.
LOVE this idea!!! how can we do that? just find those who are willing...say, "I've got an idea...come with me!"
A3: We need to have fun together. Failure is ok when everyone is having fun.
A3: I always told my students that science is an iterative process and life is a science so...
lol!! the battle is real!!
. Would have a lot to say about this. I completely agree. F2F is important! https://t.co/0JeiNzY008
my frustration with SAMR is we can hung up on needing tech, some learning should be without tech - face2face, etc.
Help T identify 1 student goal. Then choose 1 tech tool to compliment that. Start small. Model and co-teach.
Hey is a ROCKSTAR math teacher at my site and she is chatting :)
feel comfortable both with tech and different progress levels is a tricky matter when trying to pace a group equally
Ss are embracing it! Ts are adjusting to it...
Wahoo! ! The only time we’ve failed is if we wake up tomorrow the same educator we were today https://t.co/TVvENkYQeL
I LOVE THIS ONE!!! It's been my favorite since the days I laid my eyes upon it!
. share your model! Love that https://t.co/R6alDsZnCT
A2 I find the language of SAMR is not real teacher friendly in the beginning and TPACK leaves out students.
i love that post! thanks for sharing!
this is what i am going to ask you about when I get you on Coach's Corner!!
YES!!! The importance of play!!!!
A3: model, model, model. as above so below, strong admin once told me. tie to previous growth from failure--every1 has at least 1!
recently read this quote... stop cultivating mushrooms! Taking risks = signs of LIFE & growth! https://t.co/IzqeBZY9Vu
I should put a poster of that in my classroom!
A matter of just trying and being okay with not knowing everything
A3) Feedback (from others) & Reflection (by you) are most important when looking back at failures.
Awesome Eve!! Welcome you come from a cool crew
don't sweat keeping up Mackenzie. None of us can-lol! i'm ONLY 2 minutes behind right now...
Start w/ first followers. Help them build something fantastic Demonstrate collaboration is effective & fun https://t.co/ECWXcoTdxP
LOVE this idea!!! how can we do that? just find those who are willing...say, "I've got an idea...come with me!"
yeppers for that!! Can I make it may background!!!
Yes, yes , yes. You expand your engagement and learning. Why not, right?
A3: Reflective Practitioning and asking the right questions to get to better practices
How am I doing that? I'm agreeing that this is a hurdle and an overhaul in community/mission/vision is needed
A3: Celebrate failures as an opportunities to build resilience!
A3: share this infographic with them! Failure is part of the process for ALL. Only then do we grow. https://t.co/7O055EeRrx
I'm like 100 minutes behind and glad my tweets are scheduled for the Qs..otherwise I'd be in trouble!
true for sure time and space are so important for teachers great work Susan!!
I heard this, but never seen this graphic. Love it!
Do you do any activities w Ts & Ss to promote a and if so...what are they?
Very nice! Huge Life Lesson!
A3: we must develop habit to respond to failure with reflection and next steps rather than mourning defeat
Great advice from that admin.
w/SAMR focus distinction between Enhancement/Transformative Levels. Agree other lang is challenging.
but which Ben is the question?? ;)
A3: I never thought/spoke of it as failure. Just an outcome that didn't match my hypothesis, so back to the drawing board.
hey Ryan! reflection is like the wonder tool for a teacher's self care and development!!!
Reflection is a key part of the process. https://t.co/urUYrFiBvM
A3) Feedback (from others) & Reflection (by you) are most important when looking back at failures.
tonight then than whoop whoop!!!
A3: I remind Ts, if they are using Tech, there will be failures. How they react is more important than the failure.
Why is “YET” such a powerful word?
Having fun definitely lightens the mood and makes everything okay
Ann is such a pro with her Qs & moderating tonight’s
A3 Have 2 remember the x in r lives when things didnt go so well & channel the triumphs/knowledge gained https://t.co/0hvS96YXLF
All of the Bens...in all of the world, that have ever been and ever will be.
yeah, I hadn't either - came up in my Admin credential classes and I can't get over it...
We have to be the models. We have to show our failures. Be vulnerable and transparent. That’s inspiring. https://t.co/mbnb937lKB
A3 project based learning with room for pitfalls is great for this
How powerful would a PD be where everyone brings in and watches a video of them teaching and reflected on it.
We learn a magic trick and teach it either to the group or a partner. It’s fun but not easy! https://t.co/latldl49tm
Do you do any activities w Ts & Ss to promote a and if so...what are they?
Making it everyday language and thought process
A3 reflection is key, failure can shatter morale, a coach can turn failure to triumph believing in the T https://t.co/rTQytZKy52
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
Thomas A. Edison
. some do, with a smile, when I fail (like today) then fix and fly https://t.co/3aFyrbpxMO
Do your Ts & Ss feel safe to take risks and try new things?
Check out Feed... he is posting reflective question each day... https://t.co/rueZph0xaX
hey Ryan! reflection is like the wonder tool for a teacher's self care and development!!!
YES! Power in numbers. Why go it alone?
agreed... that's why I love sharing these sketchnotes - they spark such great conversations w Ts AND Ss!!!
Yes, collaboration is FUN! I think we've made great strides this year under your leadership.
I try using such language at home...I TRY
. 💖 it, but I'd push it further and add a beach towel or something on the side. Sometimes you don't need a SAMR swim.
after 20+ years of teaching I'd be super comfortable with us. Not me 10 years ago. :)
I agree... I was inspired this last summer by listening to him talk about YET
A3: Modeling. I let Ts see me work through things when not sure. Help them learn it's okay to click buttons to figure things out.
Agree, we must face our flaws to become better, but first we must see them clearly!
This is awesome =) https://t.co/4ik0l7kgAY
Yes, collaboration is FUN! I think we've made great strides this year under your leadership.
your doing great!!! you rock!!
Agreed, Ari! The answer is not always tech. And stepping out to re-evaluate is necessary. https://t.co/Zx5QCEPb8i
. 💖 it, but I'd push it further and add a beach towel or something on the side. Sometimes you don't need a SAMR swim.
yes, laughter makes so many things easier! i just make sure to laugh first and loudest at myself. :) https://t.co/cXSW4pCAyj
Having fun definitely lightens the mood and makes everything okay
So - Sketchnote virgin - subscription? Free? Googling now… https://t.co/APcnmW6E4U
agreed... that's why I love sharing these sketchnotes - they spark such great conversations w Ts AND Ss!!!
Agreed! Not being able to keep up means you're right on track!
many of my Ts feel safe to try because they know I'll be there to help them when they stumble!
Hello ! Lindsey from Campbell chiming in with lots of catching up to do! Just saw is moderating tonight- love it!!!
But, if it was just you watching and reflecting, imagine what you would learn about you
Older video about Jeremy Lin. Effort - no matter how many times you fail, how ppl doubt you. https://t.co/ymYS3qzwzS
Older video about Jeremy Lin. Effort - no matter how many times you fail, how ppl doubt you. https://t.co/PSNNuWv6bz
A3: "You never fail until you stop trying" Einstein
A4: Foster growth mindset & continual growth by DOING IT OURSELVES. Be the model for others to see.
A4 Relationships, relationships, relationships. Then model, model, model
Q4: We have to meet them where they are at, and get them to move one step at a time. Tech can make life easier in the right places
Yet = Growth Mindset. Helps us internalize that we will be able to... in time. With perseverance.
Welcome Lindsey! Great to have you with us.
that one little word...gamechanger! YET!!!
YES! when I started filming my teaching it helped in so many ways. Accountable, Honest, Adventurous
Bowing-out early tonight. See you all later.
Stumbling is great modeling for the kids. Aren't we supposed to be teaching resilience/persistence?
A4: Sometimes it is what the teacher next door is doing with you that gets their attention.
Do you believe that Ts must have 21st century skills in order to be relevant in classrooms today?
A4: Model the strategies you want to teach. Show rather than tell.
good point! teamwork develops in many ways
this is why your rock so much!!
Winder how many Ts would feel threatened great idea though
The Way We Do Business mentality. If we don't try, we don't fail--or grow.
A4: tough one! reflective question: is the desired outcome present?
Bye Mark! Have a great night =)
You’re doing such an amazing job! Such a pro!
A4: Sometimes it's that newsletter, or a passing conversation in the lounge, or a request for help with something else entirely
A4cont: Go into it with the message that we’ll learn together. Collective growth & shared learning.
I'm kinda doing that now by flipping my class. I just have to put it all out there, good or not so good.
and this is the end of my super-power ability to respond...and Galavant is on..so...I might be distracted https://t.co/VO8fI4RGvq
That's a loaded question, I am sure there are teachers out there who are inspirational on their own...
Sorry my internet decided it was a good time to come to a screeching hold, what was Q3
A4 even the most reluctant T has frustrations and could use some help, sometimes it's just time to listen and be patient
A4: There used to be comfort in knowing. Now there needs to be comfort in growing. If you’re not learning, it’s passing you.
I love this! Great addition!
woot thanks for popping in!!
Totally, ppl would not like the idea, but athletes do it everyday. Couldn't be evaluative at all!
What do you do in your role to inspire those who resist change?
Listening is one of the most important things we can do!
Great question I think so so much tech out there you have to be comfortable with
A4: Maybe they don’t want to change because they aren’t excited anymore get them excited 2 learn again? What gets them going?
Can't go wrong with a John Wooden quote!
lots of great quotes tonight!!
A4: Love the sketchnote and the idea that it is a choice which direction to go.
A4: Start small. Find one thing that will hook or help. And never give up
Excellent idea. So true, Barbara. We default to defeatist mode so often!
Speaking of filming teaching. Here is the videos I did years ago. Best thing I did to make me accountable
https://t.co/TuaAdqOnzH
Trying to be like you sir!
I'd love for this. I'm actually filming myself leading a GClassroom PD tomorrow for.
Yes many fear video and hesitate to share practices in development-striving for perfection
I think we have a lot of teachers who are here just now.
this is the answer to most questions :) https://t.co/kHak28sxWj
A4 Relationships, relationships, relationships. Then model, model, model
Hello all! Checking in. Better late than never. Can't miss
A4cont: Reminds me of saying: Tech will never replace Ts; Ts who use tech will replace those who don’t.
agreed that's a great way to keep moving forward and show others how to fix and fly!!!
A4: Ts need to see the impact that innovative change can have on Ss outcomes. Just saw a demo on gamification that'll do just that
now lets get some popcorn and watch it..mine too. and reflect and grow!
:) wooden's words have helped me climb out of failure on many occasions
I'm seeing that. For ex, I had 2 math mistakes in last video, kids were so nice when correcting me.
I agree. It all goes back to relationships.
. dang, it sure helps. That and getting off the Pulpit and down to eye level with Ss https://t.co/9dU6XejkL0
Do you believe that Ts must have 21st century skills in order to be relevant in classrooms today?
Totally agree, "knowing" is so limited in this information age https://t.co/TCOJ7sPFyZ
A4: There used to be comfort in knowing. Now there needs to be comfort in growing. If you’re not learning, it’s passing you.
Hope they get inspired by those that come on board
Good coaches know the power of FILM!!! https://t.co/Rxb59lYe5X
YES! when I started filming my teaching it helped in so many ways. Accountable, Honest, Adventurous
Haven't seen these. Thanks for sharing.
you got some great ones tonight Ben!!
yes we used a quote from Coach Carter today to remind US about courage and sharing...
8:00 is my kiddos just got in bed time!! :)
The relationships I’ve formed with the crew & on has inspired me in so many ways.
Yes & no. Sometimes you show them & they want it bcuz they see it, not because they need it. https://t.co/cqH0OFEQCB
I have an awesome Bulletin Board in my room that looks similar to this...
I'll try to find it.
yes this quote is priceless! Thanks for joining in the tonight!
Sometimes its about imagining what's possible instead of what is.
And we don't learn as much from perfection as we do failure.
I agree with it for only the sheep type people. I know of others who do because they inquire and are curious.
A4: All Ss & Ts change, we need to adapt & innovate in order to grow as well. Can't expect the same outcome with different cohorts
A4 I wont go as far as saying these Ts arent as important bcuz they teach kids, but only so many mins in a day & so many Ts 2 help
Yes... even in sports too! Sports coaches have used film to hold everyone accountable. "The Lens Never Lies!"
Definitely gives a great eye into own practice. Gives chance to reflect & revise.
A4: kids can be more resilient about constructive feedback sometimes than adults. we need to remember that.
I wanted to flip it, but our admin aren't there yet, still a lot of hands on learners
A4: I love when Ss push Ts to be more relevant. Asking why a T isn't using Tech or a specific tool.
Wooden is the man! I use his quotes personally all the time.
Zoolander. There is more to life than being really, really ridiculously goodlooking. Let others work it.
Awesome, there are mistakes all over the web, watching out for them is part of media literacy.
A3b: So Ts spoke to P and my Supt...about the "grace" of what to do when happens...moral, be brave, carry on
Oh really? Which doc? I bet it will be much better next time! I've had some serious too!
. Yes, because people will either love it or despise it. It eliminates the “meh” factor.
A4: Leadership requires relentless pursuit toward continuous improvement. Insist on tech vision. People follow passionate leaders.
Woot the Chong master is here!!!
the first time i did it BOMBED. but t saw value and made her own. isn't that the whole idea?
A4: I struggle with the judgment of irrelevance for those reluctant or slow to adapt. Low T growth=problem to address
Thanks Dude... all about sharing
It was Sieve of Eratosthenes, tried to get Ss individual copies, 45 minutes later, hadn't succeeded
I love 's mention of "fail forward". This is the essence of what we do as TOSAs alongside out teachers.
Laughing at yourself is definitely fun
absolutely! many, many times, a teacher finishes a rant with "thanks for listening," and the door opens. https://t.co/wZAvRVBl4V
Listening is one of the most important things we can do!
Q4 I share ideas with Ts and hope is spreads like fire, weekly newsletter with trivia inspired just keep inspiring
A4: We can share our tech enthusiasm and the world of Ts on ! Immediate access to the current and relevant.
A4 Finding someone the naysayer respects can be a way to get a foot in the door with this kind of T. Im an equal opportunity ally
Please don't be, it was or Gotta risk to grow, I'm not sorry at all
Yeah part of the culture in athletics should be the same in ed
A5: take the steps together (you'll never walk alone...)
A5: Walk with them. Learn with them. Step out of your comfort zone too.
A5 As a TOSA we can be right there with them modeling and supporting in the classroom. BUT first we have to build the relationship
Q5: Model Failure and how to deal with it.
A5: Allow space to play, and try some things out. Sit down and brainstorm and plan...Share ideas wherever they are found.
A5: give Ts a stage to share & shine. Encourage them, cheer them on, support as needed
So true, my learning was great, I do feel bad Ss may not have learned as much, but next time
The Sieve of Eratosthenes. Oh how I love that!!!
Just paying attention to the interests of our Ss can help us stay relevant! Have the kids be tech leaders 4 the T.
Q5 model first and hold hands along the way constant line of communication for help- text, chat, email, carrier pigeon
Just a laptop in the back, Didn't watch them all, but if "the moment happened" I didn't miss it.
Ts need the willingness to continually grow and these skills will come!
Reminds me of my bball coach. To play better, play with better players. Same goes w EDU https://t.co/yBzlKgMmk4
A4: Leadership requires relentless pursuit toward continuous improvement. Insist on tech vision. People follow passionate leaders.
Love that term...share and shine
Did you assign through classroom? It is SUCH an awesome hyperdoc. I bet it will work next time!
Trying any uniques ways to spark interest & ignite curiosity? What are you doing?
. Failure not = to fatal; experience brings new life not death https://t.co/DX7QpS9TmK
Q5: Model Failure and how to deal with it.
A5 Had a lengthy chat w/a principal about how often THE COMFORT ZONE impedes progress. Sometimes a fresh slate IS the right answer
A5: We need to be the safety net if they want one and constantly put ourselves out there as well
Yeah it is awesome. 1 Ss said she tried it, was able to find first 5 primes...so that's cool
Admin wont get on board till they see it in action
inspired to just keep inspiring!!!
And not afraid to share w the Twitter world! Amazing!
A5: Push ourselves to grow. I often find that dedication and kindness can be contagious.
Ohhhh I LOVE it! Did you make that???
Falling on your face still gets you closer to the target.
A5: Celebrate teachers that fail forward...thank them for taking risks.
ELEVEN! there's almost only 11 minutes left!!!
LOL, no I don't have that side of account, tried through edit of forced copy...
I agree as teachers we bring so much to our classrooms
HEY HEY... thats cool you are using the newsletters (the trivia is the hook!)
Like Ann ’s - Forward. When you fail, fail forward.
interesting Q for sure we discussed this in my admin class this past weekend. lots of opinions! :O)
. when you you still make progress...and make others laugh in not https://t.co/ztfFmS3e8t
Falling on your face still gets you closer to the target.
Pushing Ts to trying making and design thinking
Yes, we need to customize for our content, style, purpose & Ss... https://t.co/vk31a5jrHb
the first time i did it BOMBED. but t saw value and made her own. isn't that the whole idea?
Ohhh that's right! Well hopefully it works next time!
What do you do if the magic just isn’t happening?
So true, 10 years ago, sure, now I fail so often, it's second nature (:
A5: Ask teachers to dream-what do Ts want for Ss and teaching? TOSAs find ways to move it closer to reality!
I took a little from Pinterest and modeled it after that...
This can be hard. T reluctance hurts Ss and can mean a flat learning envmt. Have good strategies for addressing?
another great quote from tonight!!
Once my mother-in-law saw (and critiqued) my videos I was OK sharing with anyone
Absolutely! If it doesn't then, yes I learn something new
I work in a dept. w/ 5 languages. I try to speak these other languages w/ Ts. I’m often out of comfort zone. They = experts. Helps
A5: Act like I know everything, jk, show all the flaws and problems I have and encourage that failure is ok.
. happy to! I encourage my Ts to use them in class, especially dig cit & dig footprints!
Common planning is so powerful big fan to bring Ts up to speed
My kids use it to help make use of more positive thinking ;)
. nothing like going down with the Mominlaw vote for getting over it https://t.co/CBoarCcLvA
Once my mother-in-law saw (and critiqued) my videos I was OK sharing with anyone
except when no one answers that week :p *tear
This is a great example of risk-taking & stepping out of your comfort zone.
Agree with ALL of this! https://t.co/sVTyPkdNGn
A5 As a TOSA we can be right there with them modeling and supporting in the classroom. BUT first we have to build the relationship
A5 build trust 1st, model & practice, build reps & be ready to help them level up, help them connect with a PLN & watch T grow
That is amazing. I love the idea.
A5 develop a design thinking project based idea (tech driven)with TS including SS. Helps them to step out of comfort
What was your perspective
A5: show them that magic is not just an illusion. Show them what happens when Ss create their own magic.
Scaffolding, personalization; show how it fits in current practice. Know why they do what they do, first! https://t.co/ndVufz6Tlh
This can be hard. T reluctance hurts Ss and can mean a flat learning envmt. Have good strategies for addressing?
OMG..i always say even if I fall FLAT on my face I'm still moving FORWARD!
A5:We need to be thought partners & not just give directions. Build a strong relationship where feedback always occurs.
always inspired by the twitter machine and the Ts in my PLN- so much saved in my - news ideas to share all the time
what is that? tell me more about Favorite Mistake please!!
I'm inspired by chat group!! Even when I don't speak up, your voices teach me so much!!! <3
yes level up!Such a big topic of discussion lately, and is really what Adult Learning Theory is all about!
I think it is important for Ts to see us fail. Makes tech use more real. Ever see somebody do things too well?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES YES YES YES!!!
Just be careful, cause falling on your face might hurt a little..
Agreed! Start with current practice. Baby steps and scaffolding.
Always referring to when I am asked "How do you know?"
Always referring to when I am asked "How do you know?"
And being in there with them w/ a new tool/concept is introduced. Following-up. Being Positive https://t.co/Ru7Z2UxC0k
Scaffolding, personalization; show how it fits in current practice. Know why they do what they do, first! https://t.co/ndVufz6Tlh
This can be hard. T reluctance hurts Ss and can mean a flat learning envmt. Have good strategies for addressing?
A6:Show up and be present. Listen to their take on things and make sure you help them find what they determine they need!
A6: Humility.
Start from "I don’t know it & we’ll learn it together" helps offer safety in process of supporting.
A6: Ts are required to do 4 SAMR lessons. I help them plan, teach, they reflect, gather evidence. Process is important.
we have the best BFFs in our pocket through . No joke.
A6: We all need a little push and a gentle reminder sometimes. Developing an honest relationship can go a long way!
is something I need to check out..so late to the party :(
A6 i follow up a few days later to see how it's going- Ss are always asking when I'm coming back- they call me the 'iPad lady'
I look to my pocket pals to move me forward
Best learning + support ever
Most definitely! Feedback goes both ways for the growing and learning to be evident!
A6 support with a genuine compliment.
Follow & to continue the conversations.
Yes, Suzette, what is the favorite mistake?? https://t.co/uYQH0o73wW
what is that? tell me more about Favorite Mistake please!!
A6 Ask what you can do to support them with (insert new tech here).
Saw a Favorite Mistake video on Teaching Channel. Awesome strategy.
How do you encourage Ts to continue to keep trying new things?
A6 email, face to face, scheduled PD, any way i can get back to them.
A6: Schedule emails with outlook.
A5 Ditto to what so many have already said: build trust, team it together, start small, have fun! They will be hooked. :)
I like that idea, thought partners! great idea to share in reflection practices!
this has been big on my radar too!! Great thoughts!!! Love ur sharing!!
A6: To support teachers who are trying new things, encourage: growing PLN, PD, off-site peer observations to build collaboration...
And then take the time afterwards to find out what they thought of the new tool and how it worked for them https://t.co/aexE2XwEru
A6:Show up and be present. Listen to their take on things and make sure you help them find what they determine they need!
love the idea of off-site peer observation & collab to build capacity!
Love how that term grows! & all on Voxer https://t.co/iZV8gkNPIA
I look to my pocket pals to move me forward
Best learning + support ever
A6 Ts do not get enough feedback so they can improve. We do not do it enough for kids and Ts get even less https://t.co/rZ61VbBnSv
Conferences & pd w/ LOTS of collab time built in. That time where ts are learning from each other = magic https://t.co/zsEIyrWx1M
How do you encourage Ts to continue to keep trying new things?
true! so does a soccer ball to the face! broke 4 teeth in a game once!
A6: Sometimes I create a Google Classroom for the PD that Ts using during PD and use after for resources, questions & follow up.
A6:Make them the experts of their findings! Give them Teacher Leader opportunities to display their growth to peers.
Play time is so critical. With play comes confidence and ideas.
Good night, friends!!! WOOOT!!! you did an AMAZING job! Quickest hour ever!!! You ruuule!!
Me too...we should have a mug or something on Redbubble
i try 2 look @ ea T as a complete project. how 2 initiate? what will they want? what do i hope 4 them? how 2 guarantee follow up?
YES I saw that too! It's a great one!
love the teacher leader part. recognition is key.
Continually thinking more globally...the more we expand our horizons the more we learn. Collaboration is key!
OoH! we need a wordle w/ all our terms!
A6: Level of followthrough relates to purpose, if low-adjust plan to make benefits more visible-encourage continued refinement
A6: I create reminders to check back in with teachers. Try to save time to cycle back with Ts.
follow-up is such an important step that is sadly the one easiest swept aside
A6 be there! be there cheering them on,be in their corner when they are feeling battered, success or fail they are not alone
A6: Can't be a one-and-done lesson... help Ts consider next steps, reduce support w/ confidence, frequent check-ins
the power of a connected PLN. right here. . https://t.co/rwGuCG7lS5
I look to my pocket pals to move me forward
Best learning + support ever
great way to keep convos going!
A6: I try to provide teachers with personalized help support whenever possible. Nothing beats being in the moment with them.
It's okay!! There is no late!! I have to declare all the time. When you're ready - we're ready!
Give T expert status for a tool. Every T in group has a diff. expertise. Add fun peer pressure: tada! https://t.co/h27EouT7Kd
How do you encourage Ts to continue to keep trying new things?
Great job ! Loved the sketchnotes and the questions! Thanks for a great chat.
A6 to be there we have to plan, schedule/calendar set the date & time before you leave their side
Lisa, you are so thoughtful! We are lucky!
Feedback is grossly misunderstood.Ts need PD around what *effective* feedback looks like, sounds like, feels like.
Great idea. Wordle on a t-shirt?
Thanks for another great chat w/ the world's best PLN. Love my
I can always count on you for a literal LOL!
. is a good way to go to build relationships https://t.co/0ivDBTN69v
A6: We all need a little push and a gentle reminder sometimes. Developing an honest relationship can go a long way!
I try to always let Ts know that I believe in them...love seeing their “ah-ha” moments w tech! https://t.co/InbpMwBIR2
Bravo Ann! Such an amazing job moderating tonight’s Sparked a lot of excellent conversations.
Modeling from admin can be effective on this, too! https://t.co/3lvZHqmgOk
Feedback is grossly misunderstood.Ts need PD around what *effective* feedback looks like, sounds like, feels like.
