Hello #mnlead, Mark here, elementary principal in Hopkins, MN. My favorite vacation spot is Puerto Rico. Sad for the devastation but looking forward to their resurgence.
A2: I keep hearing talk of building a more diverse cadre of teachers, but it does not seem to happen, and when it does, well... the retention rates for all new teachers is dismal. #mnlead
A2: I attended the U of M teacher graduation this year, daughter graduate, and was impressed by the large number of POC going into teaching - wondering if this is happening at other schools as well. #mnlead
There is great benefit to students living in predominantly white schools to having contact with other than white teachers, talk about real world experiences. #mnlead
A4: I think a related question is why do such segregated schools still exist in Minnesota? 5 years ago I left a suburban school that was 95% white and went to a city school over 95% POC - 15 miles apart! #mnlead
And this brings us back to the lack of TOC's and what they are dealing with in and educational system dominated by a white population,(like me). There is lots of baggage these new teachers have to deal with outside of the crazy first year of teaching #mnlead
