Please join us for a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 education. We will have a variety of moderators with a wide range and depth of design thinking experiences. Each week, we will connect the dots to the design thinking methodology and how it can and will play a bigger role in today’s K12 educational arena.
I'm here! It's been so long -- I've had class every Wednesday night since August. Twitter looks so different now... Anyways, I'm Gail, currently in the Bay Area, and I'm looking forward to getting experiences for the holidays - visiting my family, snow, movies, etc #dtk12chat
"What's up with #dtk12chat tonight, @TheRealJamCam? I've never seen it so quiet!" Said Ken G., ensconced beneath a blue blanket on a couch next to a daughter somewhere in the northeaster part of the U.S.
A1: I've been finally getting through @IntentionBook; hoping to catch up on sleep & look for a few new ideas for 1st gr lit, 4th gr minerals and 3rd gr space #dtk12chat
I thought people were required to shop using their Amazon Echo. And that they were supposed to bring #dtk12chat with them on vacation. Gotta check my rulebook again.
A2: having our first senior class, launching our pathways program moving to 3 hour AM trans-disciplinary PBL block from shorter interdisciplinary PBL! #dtk12chat
yup yup #dtk12chat I gots the debbie downers as my once in a blue moon takeout Fish tacos were yucky #dtk12chat and Im watching The Crown and fell down the wikipedia rabbit hole on the British monarchy

A3: I didn’t trust myself to handle a project on my own. Due to this lack of confidence rust in myself, I didn’t navigate the situation very well. In the wise words of @kwaku1, I learned to “own my shit.” #dtk12chat
#dtk12chat Ela from Cambridge here...just got the girls down & am wiped myself—not @Learn21Tech's stretch (holy mackerel!) but a very full few weeks. Still, so good to see @TheRealJamCam at the helm here!
Just had to up my own confidence game myself just today! Had to fix neg convo from yesterday; don't know if it worked 100% but got my words out today at least #dtk12chat
A3: I'll go with recent fails. I am losing S engagement because I don't know my tools well enough to overcome "printer" gridlock. #dtk12chat#idleHandsAndAllThat
A3 hmmm… i not sure I call my stuff failures… I have had a lot of "learn from” moments as a 1st time mom 2 a nonfur bambino Plus everything is a prototype thus if it fails I learn and get to try again #dtk12chat
So true!! Slowing down is so important and sometimes you don't realize it until it's too late; good opportunities to share w/ss what I would do different #dtk12chat
#dtk12chat A0 (gift) investing $ in making a bunch of toys; A1(vacation) investing time in making a bunch of toys; A2 (successes) simplifying; also helping both girls w/tough transitions using this stuff; A3 (failures) complexifying
A3 (learns): I need to find the smaller meaningful (and quicker) steps that lead to bigger discoveries. or better yet, take my big, wild, crazy ideas and break them up into the more meaningful skills laps #dtk12chat
A3: mostly funding related and fit of staff. Finding people not scared to talk racism, equity and facilitate design / PBL can be a challenge #dtk12chat
Oh man, I believe it! These engagements w/ lots of different people (OK, maybe not 10 in 3 weeks!) give us so much food for iterating our approaches *if* we get some space on the other side...and we've got any energy left! #dtk12chat
A3 my biggest obstacle: Seeing multiple things that needed to get done but not focusing on one or two things to get done. Solution narrowing my work goals to 3 areas #dtk12chat
To hear the song that's currently streaming through my head, do the following problem: 306 x 2 + 1,000 = ?

A4: I think I am going to focus more on relationships, partnerships, and such. I think I'm good creating and maintaining those relationships. 2018 will be the year of Intention #deeperEmpathy#dtk12chat#hashtagiskey
#dtk12chat A4. 1st experiments of 2018 involve working closely with families in the community around accessibility of these approaches to anyone in any time of need...I know that this will really stretch me, and am hopeful we can fail forward together!
A4: try, try again; diving into resources, relying on @TeachersGuild and other fellows
for mentoring and ideas, this #dtk12chat group for support, finding time to find meaningful ways to bring DT to K-5
A4: Collaborate w/like-minded folks, work w/teaching one of the teaching teams 4 a class @stanforddschool & teach DT to 11th & 12th graders, get out of my comfort zone (big time) #dtk12chat
