Welcome to #AWSAconnect! Tonight we'll discuss crucial conversations. Please introduce yourself, from where you are tweeting, and how your #oneword2018 or resolution is progressing.
Hi everyone, Sharin here. AP in the 'Sha (Waukesha). My #oneword2018 is still "Kindness" and I've definitely been able to show that in my F2F with those I serve, and being kinder and patient with Ss who have some challenges we're working through. How about you all? #AWSAconnect
Hi all, Joe from AWSA, working from home in Delafield tonight. My one word is whole -- as in being a whole human being. Had an awesome fellowship breakfast session with supts and other leaders from around WI this morning about this very subject. Great energy! #awsaconnect
Hey @waukeshaschools Educators! Hope you can join us for our #AWSAConnect chat where we’re discussing the uncomfortable, challenging crucial conversations Tune in now! ;-)
a1: A crucial conversation is one that is uncomfortable and where there’s a lot at stake, such as preserving a relationship or job performance, addressing the big elephant in the room. Def not something people wake up & say, “I hope I get to address the scary!" #AWSAConnect
Good evening everyone. Tom here from Black River Falls - HS Prin. My one word this year is "Learning" as in focusing on learning to be ready for life, career and college - aka Redefining Readiness. #awsaconnect
That is tough to do when we sometimes need to vent. That’s where we take that next step of courageous leadership to get out of our comfort zone and just ‘say’ it. #AWSAconnect
A1) Being not afraid to address the issues head on and problem solve together remember people are always watching your reactions and how you deal or don't deal with certain difficult situations #AWSAconnect
A2) Initially by building reallocation people need to know your true intentions and that you care and finally working together with a plan and solution #AWSAconnect
Joe from Elkhorn, WI. #oneword2018 is focus & I am working with my teams to be intentional about the day to day data (learning evidence) we use to make decision about instruction. #AWSAconnect
A2 A lot of the planning has to do with being prepared to keep your words focused on observation and communicating the impact of the issue at hand. Lead with a coaches mindset in that regard #AWSAconnect
A) Very plannfully, if possible. Good planning leads to your ability to provide clear feedback in a sensitive, honorable way, which goes far in helping the conversation take hold and help progress occur. #awsaconnect
A3: I statements and those that include “you” so that there is a team approach about listening to each other’s perspectives, followed by “What can WE do…” when it’s time to resolve and identify action steps. #AWSAConnect
A2) With the intent to listen and plan for measurable and timely action steps for both parties. Crucial Conversations are not just about one party it includes everyone. #AwsaConnect
A4: Focus on the issue, not the person. One way I show I care is following up individually F2F & see how that person is doing, not living behind the email. It’s uncomfortable for them and for the me, so I need to approach them to let them know we are moving forward. #AWSAConnect
How do you stay your course if the other person is not aligning with the position you are taking🤔 I have ideas, just want to hear your thoughts? #AwsaConnect
A4 Make your intentions clear. You are there to help others grow and find success in areas where it may be lacking. Leaders serve first and always #AWSAConnect
Follow up to see that action steps / remedies have occurred, assume postive intent, celebrate support and/or provide ongoing coaching/feedback as needed to get to the shared goal #awsaconnect
Call To Action! Identify a crucial conversation you will prepare for and have yet this month. Share your steps in our @voxer group. Not part of our @voxer group? DM me and I can add you! #AWSAconnect
A4) Assume positive intent but follow up to verify that action steps occurred. Then celebrate and/or provide more coaching/feedback as needed in order to get to the shared goal. #awsaconnect
