Good morning, #eduGladiators!!! I'm Kris and I teach PreK in KS! We are on Spring Break. However, I will continue gladiating this next week by polishing up my presentation for the "Bridging to Resilience" conference next month in Overland Park, KS.
A1: Continue to keep learning relevant to your S's. Challenge the ways that learners think. Create an environment where inquiry is a greater part of student response. Increase student interest by building a culture full of explosive curiosity. #EduGladiators
Morning #EduGladiators ! Kaylee here from NJ. First time joining this chat after meeting @mgrosstaylor last week and feeling so inspired! Excited to discuss momentum, I definitely need help right about now 😂
A1: I think simply talking through the challenges with both students and colleagues. Get the challenges out in the open and problem solve together when possible. #EduGladiators

A1: It helps me to stay visible, be in clasrooms, and always checking the pulse of the climate. Even strong cultures can have a climate change that can impact everyone. #EduGladiators
A1: As much as you can, stick to your calendar and routines. Continue to monitor progress and adjust as necessary. Once the leader begins canceling things or not worrying as much, that seems to seep down to staff/students. Stick to the plan for the WHOLE game!!! #edugladiators
A1: The lovely thing about my 8th graders is I looped with them. So I am constantly telling them about the growth and progress they have made over the past couple of years. #edugladiators
A1: what I discovered about Kinder and this time of year is that their growth & dev is almost tangible! I can pinpoint what my Ss need and really push. They have grown up so much. It is joyful. #EduGladiators
A1) I always come back to the purpose of learning. I believe we need to measure Learning but the tool that measures us, does not define us. #edugladiators
A1: Mindset matters! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can! Sharing positive affirmation with colleagues & students alike. Work hard, play hard! #EduGladiators
A1 We aren't taking out of class time to review for tests... leaving that for our flex time. Staying focused and having fun while learning throughout the day #EduGladiators
a1: It's dependent on what you think the prize truly is! If the prize is getting to the end I would bet those educators are not in this chat! Everyday we have chance to change and save lives..#edugladiators#merchantsofhope
A1: Staying focused on the students and their learning needs. As a teacher w/ an end of course, I am constantly looking at data and showing the students how much they have learned this year in US History. #EduGladiators
A1: Comparing end of year growth to beginning of year as to celebrate both students and teachers. Also, encouraging Ts to find ways to incorporate teachable moments into festivities. #EduGladiators
A1: Growth is individualized for each and every student. We know our students BEST! We see the amazing things they are doing in and out of the classroom! SHARE their success and always build upon the strengths they already have in place! #EduGladiators#KidsDeserveIt
A1: Keeping up with Ss interests and giving their voice meaning in educational setting shows you care & keeps them present because you are listening & want to hear what they have to say. Ss typically give the respect they receive #EduGladiators
A1: I feel like it's in the best interest of the Ss to keep the routine consistent, as much as possible. My little people get completely bonkers when there's a change in our routine, so that's what I try to do! #EduGladiators

A1: Develop PBL tasks to give students agency over their learning & create real learning opportunities . State assessments should not mean learning ceases across the school house. #edugladiators
A1 This may be naive of me, but I truly believe that ALL of our work up to this point leads directly to assessment & celebration so it's part of routine already. #EduGladiators
A1: Hang up your vision or big priorities, and look at/reflect on them daily! At the end of the year, we get tired/distracted, but we need to stay on course so we have even more to celebrate at the end of year!!! #edugladiators
A1: To stay focused on kids' growth and learning, have super-tight procedures and checklists for all of the end-year testing and school trips. Put good committees in charge of those things to stay focused on kids and learning. #EduGladiators
Q1: Commit to finishing strong. Set goals as a school and aim to meet them. Encourage Ss to set goals to stretch or continue to work in meeting current goals. Just keep going. #edugladiators
A1: As a team, we talk a lot about the importance of finishing strong. We want to run across the finish line, collapse with pride & joy, & know that we gave it our all throughout the entire marathon. We also remind each other of our incredible PURPOSE. #edugladiators
A1: Starts with mindset! Have to be of the mind that every minute counts as a learning opportunity & focus on every lesson, one lesson at a time. Without the right mindset its too easy to get caught up in all the “other stuff” #edugladiators
A1 I know everyone is exhausted, but this is where we dig deep and call on our passions to guide us through. Remind ourselves of our why. Wrote a blog post on this yesterday. Don't know if it'll help anyone get through https://t.co/1lxy9UeK9h#edugladiators
A1 Continue to focus on individual student growth and emphasize that we are focused on educating the whole child and not just focused on a state assessment. #EduGladiators
A1: Great Q! Depends on admins. If assessment is a distraction to them, Ts can focus on growth and skills that can't be measured. If the admins are focused on test results, not much the T can do... #edugladiators
A1: I try and have bi-weekly walkthroughs with my staff. In those, I leave a question to try and just get staff thinking. Some are specific to the lesson I see and others focus on progress students have made over the year.
#EduGladiators

A1: Struggling with this very thing at the moment. Have such great momentum with my kiddos right now, but state testing looms. From deep down, I want to shun and smite the SBA, but I hesitate—for my kids, but I want to fight for my kids. Kids, not data points. #EduGladiators
#edugladiators A1: S Assessments and year-end activities are distracting to the T, not the S....who likely has far more serious distractions in his/her life each day. T, just keep perspective and value each day you have class as the opportunity for growth and development it is.
A1: Always a challenging time. Staying organized and realistic. It's a good time to look at how much time is left and really consider what you can accomplish. Quest-based and #blendedlearning is a huge benefit this time of year #EduGladiators
A1: Continue to make learning activities meaningful, engaging and fun. Keep the focus on continuing a culture built on positive relationships, trust, empathy and growth. Students should be learning life long skills, not 30 second strategies.......#edugladiators
A1. I focused on educator’s/Ts practice. I simply sought to build their capacity in steps, let them professionally grow collectively, praised their successes, clearly communicated my expectations and held them accountable. #EduGladiators
A1b) it’s especially important this time of year to celebrate any type of growth (academic, behavioral) that is shown. Show students that’s what your focus is on, not their GPA. #EduGladiators
A1: Been thinking a lot more about some baseball research articles I have read that point to effective managers being ones that help players manage the daily grind. Thinking about these applications to education. #edugladiators
A1: Refrain from end of the year countdowns to summer... it is not a happy time for all kids. Some dread not having the consistency of the school day. #EduGladiators
A2: Look for new ways to accomplish tasks. Bring your work outside and enjoy some fresh air. Pair up with colleagues that make you laugh/smile and complete tasks together. Take a gratitude walk around your school to celebrate the many great things that take place. #EduGladiators
A1b: To be honest, it was this "time of year" demoralizing nonsense that push me back to kindergarten where we could focus on learning and celebrating instead of testing. #edugladiators
A1. There was a lot coming down from the district that I shielded the Ts and staff from. Because of our focus on practice, test scores rose each yr. So we went failing to high performing school. So I became an outlaw for my staff. #EduGladiators
A1: It’s not about the assessment; it’s about the learning. If we are teaching kids at high levels with rigorous standards and putting them in charge of their learning, they will be successful at anything. #edugladiators

I agree. Talk w/the students & recognize that it’s challenging as the weather gets nice & other events start to take place BUT that they can continue to learn & grow just as much on day 180 as on day 1 w/the right mindset. #edugladiators
A2 We started a district bootcamp... nice to unwind with each other a couple days a week. Keeps everyone's minds rejuvenated... Have to let off the steam to help with stress #EduGladiators
YES! PLEASE don't count down the days until summer! If anything, count down the days until the next school year begins! We count down to things we are excited for. #EduGladiators
A1. We have to stay true to our purpose for being educators in the first place. Our actions must positively impact all students. We may have to revisit our purpose every so often to keep our focus. #edugladiators
A1 I think by staying connected, making time for chats like this, or in voxer groups, to support and get feedback/.ideas from PLN helps so much #edugladiators
A2 Be intentional about taking time for ourselves, whether it be by spending time with family, friends, PLN, reading, or whatever keeps us going, Twitter chats, Voxer groups, music! #edugladiators
So true! Some of my students hate vacation and get antsy and depressed right before vacation: school is home to more kids than we realize. #EduGladiators
A2: Until last year I did not think burnout was a thing that would impact me, I realized as I changed my work situation that the people we surround ourselves with in and outside work are the largest contributors to our "burnout" Choose Wisely #EduGladiators
A2: I try something new. Break up the normal routine. In class trying a new activity, type of lesson... personally finding more time for family and friends. #EduGladiators
A2: For me, this is about managing my time well outside of the building. Am I getting outside and exercising? Am I regularly reading God's Word and other things that feed me? Making sure I am well-prepared for being in the building is important. #edugladiators
A2) Don’t be afraid to mix things up a little, a littte music, for every 1 academic @quizizz game play 1 fun one (our students love “Logos”), and keep the energy up ALL THE TIME #EduGladiators
A2: By modeling the desire to continually improve ourselves, the process, and the school year, can be a new opportunity every day without counting down.
#EduGladiators
A2: I think that the self-care piece is crucial! Take some time for YOU! Do a hobby you enjoy, Go to a movie with family or friends, dinner with a colleague. #EduGladiators

A1 this time of year can be so challenging and draining, need a spring refresh, or a quick break to have some fun, recharge and push through stronger #edugladiators
We've got to keep pressing the issue. Leadership happens at every level (title doesn't equal leadership). Insist on keeping those conversations alive. #edugladiators
A2: Schedule time every day for down time. And tougher sometimes, reject perfectionism. Maybe you don't get to the same units as last year. Maybe you reduce them.
Your well being=LESS STRESS for you AND your Ss!
#edugladiators
It depends what you're trying to assess. If schools say they value growth and development they should asses that and not just knowledge in a test. #EduGladiators
A2: As an admin, it’s important to REALLY talk & listen to my team. Nothing more on their plates & find meaningful ways to encourage Ts & Ss with positivity & support. #edugladiators
A1: Facilitated our most powerful learning experiences during this time of the year. Leveraged the learning community we had worked hard to build & skills we had mastered in order to address important topics throughout History. Bell to bell learning was my motto. 🔔#EduGladiators
Exactly! Don’t count the day, make the days count especially for our kids! We send a mixed msg when we count towards summer that we want to get rid of our Ss. I would always tell them in May how boring it was going to be without their energy/smiles in the summer. #EduGladiators
A2 We must examine the task we are asking our staff to accomplish and make sure that each task is vital. If not, then let it go and allow them to focus on the things that are important.
#EduGladiators
A2: Culture is not static. It’s dynamic. You can change it by what you say. You can elevate it by what you think. You can improve it by what you share. You can transform it by what you do. You can work to create a positive culture right now. #edugladiators

A2: This. Get involved with you #PLN Collaborate with one another and help each other GROW! Lean on one another for support! We are a VILLAGE of educators with one sole purpose: to be there for kids! #EduGladiators#KidsDeserveIt
A1. Stay positive and energetic! Kids want and need that spark in the day! Continue voice & choice, creativity and purposeful and real world learning #edugladiators
A2: We support each other. As admin we model “fighting the good fight”. My staff has to pack up the entire building and move out for renovations by the end of the last day😳! #edugladiators
A2: Self awareness of the signs for burnout. We need to know ourselves well, and know when we need support to stay focused. Everyone gets tired, but not everyone allows that to impact their ability and disposition. #EduGladiators
A1. I took a chance being an outlaw for the Ts. However, I believed they were worth it. So I modeled the promotion of all of our successes on every possible and existing media platform. Then staff followed suit. #EduGladiators
A2: I try something new. Break up the normal routine. In class trying a new activity, type of lesson... personally finding more time for family and friends. #EduGladiators
a2: Let's be true..there are growing responsibilities all year long..but one of my favorite @JonGordon11 quotes is what balances me: #edugladiators#pln365
A2: As an IC, I could take the time to take something off a teacher’s plate during this “season”. And I could definitely model this as I roam the school—I don’t HAVE to give off a stressed vibe. Positivity is important. #EduGladiators
A2: Morale often becomes a topic this time of year in schools. Morale is a personal choice. You decide your attitude. You decide your words and actions. Take ownership and make your culture what you want it to be. #iaedchat#edugladiators

A2: Be sure to schedule time for your self - between work and family responsibilities in the spring, I am constantly on the go! I make sure that my time to run/exercise is sacred! #edugladiators
A2) Usually we have had a few days that working outside is comfortable & refreshing, not so far this year. Finding some great suggestions here! #EduGladiators
Q2: Great advice I got years ago was, "Go home & cut the grass!" When you feel burned out/stressed out/exhausted, do something where you see immediate positive results! It will recharge your battery & give you time to reflect on how important we are!! #EduGladiators
A2) instead of podcasts, personally I’ll just jam out to music to change moods. I also love walking to other classrooms/floors and interacting with other students #EduGladiators
We can talk about this more, but #Cubs manager is a master at this, and it is rubbing off on some of the rest of baseball as well. Lots of examples from him and others. #EduGladiators
A2: Start w your WHY & remind each other that these are the times you have to dig deep, put your positive pants on, get out there & do the important work. As #edugladiators we are blessed to GET TO have amazing impact on so many. We can't ever take this for granted.

Students may whine abt the "new" but they perk up. We're spending this week with a March Madness of influential Americans in US History. #EduGladiators
I think the mindset of teachers can have a greater impact than that of the admin. Sure, admin can have an assessment focus, but does that have to override what a teacher may think is most important in their classroom? #EduGladiators
A2: Great advice I got years ago was, "Go home & cut the grass!" When you feel burned out/stressed out/exhausted, do something where you see immediate positive results! It will recharge your battery & give you time to reflect on how important we are!! #EduGladiators
This reminds me of what I did last year...had a SHAKEUPS week. Every day had a different floor plan, door prizes, different activities. We didn't cover much official STANDARDS that week, but we all needed it!
Great Idea, Jill! #EduGladiators
A2: I try something new. Break up the normal routine. In class trying a new activity, type of lesson... personally finding more time for family and friends. #EduGladiators
Love it...I was criticized and condemned because when people say TGIF I would say Yes two days till Monday! #edugladiators There's a difference between loving your weekends and living for the weekend!
A2: As a building leader, I think maintaining a positive, enthusiastic outlook while acknowledging all of the hard & great work that the faculty & students have done throughout the year is important! Little acts of recognition—a handwritten note, a shout out, etc. #edugladiators
A2: Take time for yourself, be kind to yourself, especially as stress mounts. Like on airplanes, you need to put the oxygen mask on yourself before you can help others. #EduGladiators
A2: I try to spend even more time with the staff just helping, listening, and encouraging. Often they feel the same at the EOY, and supporting them gives me more energy & inspiration. I also really enjoy planning events to thank them! #edugladiators
Self awareness is so important!! We must realize when we are reaching the end of the rope.
As leaders we can also help those around by recognizing their stress level.
#EduGladiators
A2: Self awareness of the signs for burnout. We need to know ourselves well, and know when we need support to stay focused. Everyone gets tired, but not everyone allows that to impact their ability and disposition. #EduGladiators
Agreed! I was seeing red on Thursday evening! Spending the day yesterday with the PreK team was refreshing. At least we're all on the same page! #EduGladiators

A1 Continue to keep the big picture in mind. Plan super-engaging units of study that Ss & families buy into. Continue posting examples of ongoing Ss work on class blog so families & kids know the priority. Highlight the good! #EduGladiators
A2: I turn to the kids. We do it all year long, but our daily entry task of Smiles and Frowns keeps me connected to my kids, which keeps me attached to my why. Secure in my why, I weather the storm from the harbor brightened by my little lighthouses. Kids. #edugladiators
I hear you! I've gotten away from my routine but I'm realizing why it is so important to keep up with my exercising now more than ever. Helping myself de-stress helps my Ss! #edugladiators
A2: Be sure to schedule time for your self - between work and family responsibilities in the spring, I am constantly on the go! I make sure that my time to run/exercise is sacred! #edugladiators
A1 Learning to live in the now is a skill. We miss so much in the present by projecting into the future. We have our phones out capturing the present we’re not engaged in. #edugladiators
A2: I try to spend even more time with the staff just helping, listening, and encouraging. Often they feel the same at the EOY, and supporting them gives me more energy & inspiration. I also really enjoy planning events to thank them! #edugladiators
A2: We watched this video the other day during one of our mrng huddles. We are the initial action that creates a HUGE chain reaction. As #edugladiators our impact is incredible & an amazing GIFT. https://t.co/DtX18bJVY3
A2: As a building leader, I think maintaining a positive, enthusiastic outlook while acknowledging all of the hard & great work that the faculty & students have done throughout the year is important! Little acts of recognition—a handwritten note, a shout out, etc. #edugladiators
A3 Have a part of my day be a routine, early morning reading of @Getting_Smart and listening to Voxer groups #4ocf#edumatch#culturize and time at end of day for relaxing with family, exercising and learning #edugladiators
A3: The "walk and talk" keeps lighter conversations moving which helps me complete simple tasks while connecting w/staff. Also, planning meetings that only focus on the essentials. Anything that doesn't need to be discussed can be communicated in other ways. #EduGladiators
A2. The year prior, I would triangulate data from T absence, Ss discipline referrals, S absence, S & T lateness. I met w/ two layers of T teams to devise school pride activities around those time. It really helped the school environment. #EduGladiators
A3: I will shave off say social media time to read or go for a walk. Whatever the priority is, I will take from something else at that moment if that's what I need. #edugladiators
A1: This is where we focus on the prize of our students and don’t let our eyes drift to any distractions. Sometimes those distractions are part of the course, so we can’t ignore them, like assessments, but the should not become our focus. #EduGladiators
A2: Grab a coworker and walk some laps after school so you can de-stress and reflect together. Some days a few laps is all it takes, sometimes a few miles. Also, walk AWAY from your job when you are at home and focus on yourself and your family. #EduGladiators
Such an important point—remembering the WHY! At the start of the school year I asked our Lead Teachers WHY they became Lead Teachers & had them write it down...thinking this might be a good time of the year to revisit the why! #edugladiators
A2: Start w your WHY & remind each other that these are the times you have to dig deep, put your positive pants on, get out there & do the important work. As #edugladiators we are blessed to GET TO have amazing impact on so many. We can't ever take this for granted.
A1 definitely a struggle. I think part of the answer is building a growth mindset. With that you hunger to continue learning even in tough times. The other part is teamwork, lifting each other up, and sharing the new strategies or activities you are doing #EduGladiators
A2 We need to stop and smell the roses out of school. In I like to plan special activities based on a theme and transform our class. Excitement for all 😀#EduGladiators
A2. Dan from Wisconsin jumping in late - lots of loud music and rocking out on the drive home. Random banter with students about their lives. Venting during department meetings helps as well. #EduGladiators
A2: Take time for yourself, be kind to yourself, especially as stress mounts. Like on airplanes, you need to put the oxygen mask on yourself before you can help others. #EduGladiators
I have never done that, although when Ss or Ts say how many days, I say "good, that means we are that much closer to the new school year!" #edugladiators
A3: Obey the clock and your body NOT the work that needs to be done. When you compromise sleep for the sake of the work, imbalance begins.
#EduGladiators
In Israel, at least most of the time, Ts have very little autonomy. The country's curriculum is very strict, at least at core subjects. All due to standardized testing that have a major impact on schools. #EduGladiators
A2 Providing student choice in my art room has helped me w/ burnout b/c what Ss are doing is their responsibility, I’m there to support them but they are in the lead. Takes a lot of pressure off, and keeps a sense of curiosity and possibility alive all year long. #edugladiators
a2: Another @JonGordon11 quote that is helpful is this one....when it's about our PURPOSE we can face anything. It won't always be easy, but it will be worth it. #EduGladiators#pln365
A2: As an IC I try to encourage, especially our New Ts, to take the time to pause, reflect, & celebrate how much progress they and their Ss have made. Seems to give us the fuel to move forward with even more gusto! #EduGladiators
A3) lately I’ve been really bad at this. Been saying yes to much and not guarding my own time. I use Google calendars for a lot, so blocking off personal times in that calendar can be refreshing #EduGladiators
A2) We must look at our people our process and our systems if we are out of alignment burnout, frustration, and other elements have the potential to delay the plan and achievement of the goal. #edugladiators
A3: I use @SmorePages to send out weekly communication so it is in one place. This keeps us from having to meet on managerial and housekeeping type things. #edugladiators
A3: Sometimes we just need to say, “Do it” and engage in activities outside of the classroom that make our heart jump for JOY! I personally love to TRAVEL and experience new food and cultures! #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders#Rejuvenate#Revitalize
A3 really working on time management this year. trying not to take so much home (is this a thing for educators?!) working through lunch and focusing in the mornings. Using my hour drive to work to listen to Voxer and podcasts for PD #edugladiators
A2. One of the activities was Ss becoming “Principal for a day”. Then I allowed role reversal day where a T became “Principal for a Day” and I taught their class all day. I told all Ts to come and observe each teaching practices. #EduGladiators
A3: I'm a morning person, so when I hit my limit at the end of day or set a specific time to leave, I write a post-it or list on my whiteboard of quick things to wrap up first thing in the AM. #edugladiators
With seniors, it's funny. They usually think countdowns are cool early on in the year...about this time, they're getting a little nervous and I notice their countdowns don't get updated very often! #EduGladiators

A4: A pattern that works well for me is getting to school early and leaving fairly early to get some time outside. Now that does not mean I won't stay around longer when there is the need, but this pattern helps my personal effectiveness. #edugladiators
A2. Hooks - have students guessing up until the last day what in the world will we go/do today? #dancepary#bigkid Also surround yourself with positivity and take time for yourself! #edugladiators
#edugladiators A3: The phone is a tool for YOU to reach others when it is mutually convenient. You don't have to answer when it rings or buzzes. Turn it off when you are already engaged. Turn it on when you are asking yourself, "ok, what to do now?"
A3: The biggest thing I do is set a limit. It can't be all work and no play but I do think to be my best the job can't be 8:30-3:30 everyday either. Schedule Schedule Schedule. I love working on Saturdays while watching a movie. Doesn't feel like work. #EduGladiators
A3: Good question! I check email in the morning but keep my phone on me if I’m not in my room. I put all important events/meetings in my calendar. I also try to walk classrooms early. I try to have a plan for the day (knowing that I’ll have to be flexible). #EduGladiators
We need to be sure we take an honest look at the demands on educators. Pushing folks to deny their reality of being stressed and burned out, couching it as negativity, etc. doesn’t make it go away. We can’t fix what we fail to acknowledge. #EduGladiators
A3. I stopped grading all work not summative and provide verbal feedback in the moment or written feedback when I have time. Using standards grading rubrics has saved lots of grading time. Allows for more planning or relationship building. Efficiency. #EduGladiators
A3b: The evenings are mine: maybe some school stuff to get ahead of the game, Twitter chats, time with my hubby, in no particular order. #EduGladiators

A3: I try to more heavily schedule Monday-Wednesday, so if I don't finish or have to move things, I have opening on my calendar Thursday/Friday. #edugladiators
A3: I am trying to get better at looking at the CLOCK! Time moves so fast after school when I am caught up in a project. I have to be mindful of the time, or I will never go home. #edugladiators
A2 keep it simple, easy, and bite size. If it’s something that will not take up a lot of time but a quick tool or step that teachers can implement the next day then I think we can continue to grow during testing season. #EduGladiators
A2: This is where we need to remember balance and take time for ourselves in the journey. You’ll find me hunting, reading, baking, or enjoying family time! #edugladiators
A3a: I like getting to school early, when it's quiet and not very many others are there. I can concentrate and get ready for my day better. By the end of the day, after teaching a total of 33 "littles," I'm done!

A3. I stopped grading all work not summative and provide verbal feedback in the moment or written feedback when I have time. Using standards grading rubrics has saved lots of grading time. Allows for more planning or relationship building. Efficiency. #EduGladiators
A2 Sometimes you just need to step back and look at the big picture to keep things in perspective. Take a break even if it’s a brief one to recharge your batteries. Seek out that person who makes ya laugh. #edugladiators
A2 First & foremost, being aware of both burnout & secondary traumatic stress that may be surfacing. It helps if admin acknowledges & supports. Then, self-care (diet, exercise, etc), focusing time on hobbies, taking breaks, counseling if needed. #edugladiators
A3: I try not to fight it. Of course, easier said, but if I start stressing about time, which I inevitably do this time of year, I go mad. So, I go with the flow, trying to shield my kids from my stress. They have enough of their own. But, again, easier said. #EduGladiators
A2: Start w your WHY & remind each other that these are the times you have to dig deep, put your positive pants on, get out there & do the important work. As #edugladiators we are blessed to GET TO have amazing impact on so many. We can't ever take this for granted.
A practical example is that we have had a challenging Farch (Feb/March) at our school, so our admins have planned a special luncheon this week -- something that helps break up the grind. #EduGladiators
A4: How are we making the days count instead of "counting the days" that are left? Do we have a complete picture of student profiles aside from just the numbers?
How do we celebrate progress instead of just looking at pass/fail?
#EduGladiators
A3: I don't like to close my door, but sometimes I just have to! To get something done or simply take a moment to breathe!! If I shut the door for 5 minutes, I can open my heart & reengage for the rest of the day. #EduGladiators
A3: I started using this baby a few months ago and love it. Makes me more intentional with my time. Also formatted with more reflection than other planners, which is awesome! https://t.co/VIiyTQ5fgg#EduGladiators
A2: in my first year I have learned that I need to recharge myself. I have started running again and focusing on maintaining a health lifestyle. I also carry over my classroom policy of not letting a bad day show. Always keep a smile and be friendly to all. #edugladiators

A3. Since I tried to conduct 10 walkthroughs a day & provide immediate feedback as a principal, I used the conference and office day format. Of course, it would vary by day. Some times is was half days. Some times I sat at a desk in the hallway to handle paperwork. #EduGladiators
A3: Hard to do but staying present & saying no to things, as much as I want to do everything and help, knowing your boundaries are important. #EduGladiators
A4 Keep learning goals (standards) and targets in mind always. In MA, we don't even receive our standardized test scores until almost Oct. so they don't weigh heavily on our end of yr. #EduGladiators
A3. Still working to manage time well. As P/T, first yr teacher I also maintain F/T job & provisional cert classes. Schedules are well-intentioned & helpful, but life often has other plans. I'm making it work, though. #edugladiators
A3 I literally schedule everything on my google calendar. Everything. Short of my bathroom breaks, but otherwise every task. Even family time is scheduled to make sure I take the time. It's really helped me with balance, which I struggle with. #edugladiators
A3: You want to tell a great leader? Look at how they spend their time! A conversation that we continually have as a leadership team at my school. The classroom is where the most important work takes place in any school—that’s where our time should be spent! #edugladiators
A4: What are you doing to make each minute in each school day not only count for kids, but MATTER to kids? How will they benefit from their last days with you? #EduGladiators
A3: This week I said no to some things to guard my time and it was sooo hard to do. I tend to overextend myself until I’m stretched thin. #EduGladiators
A3: I don't like to close my door, but sometimes I just have to! To get something done or simply take a moment to breathe!! If I shut the door for 5 minutes, I can open my heart & reengage for the rest of the day. #EduGladiators
A3. I try to plan and prioritize. Some things must be done, some things are nice to get done, & other things really do not matter. I base it on the amount of impact it has on Ss. To include my biological two. #edugladiators
I told my teachers at the beginning of the year that I didn't want to meet just to meet. I have a Google Doc for items that are FYI only info-it allows them to refer back to them throughout the year. #EduGladiators
Oh, look. #EduGladiators is trending again. Those brave, 6 hr day, 5 day week, 9 month year warriors must have done something spectacular again. Let's give them more money.
Many thanks to each of you for sharing this am & to @PaulONeill1972 for pushing us with such thoughtful Qs!
#EduGladiators is now officially on Spring Break, but we return April 7 w/a NEW series & line-up of epic Qs & guest warriors!
#HappyEaster#leadupchat#satchat#LeadLap
A3:⌚️As @JohnCMaxwell has recently shared time cannot be managed... it will keep going... but if we can manage ourselves and use time wisely then that is an amazing asset to have. #EduGladiators
A4: I think the number 1 Q we should always be asking is, Will this improve me and will this improve things for my students. I know there are things we "must do" but those can't be the guide. It needs to be what can we do to make the experience of education great #EduGladiators
A3: Remember, just because your busy doesn’t mean you are accomplishing anything.
I lead by the 3 R’s
What’s required?
What gives us the greatest return?
What is rewarding?
Answering those ?s & aligning them helps me prioritize for impact #edugladiators

A4. We need to honor the essential tenants of learning: problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, collaboration, etc. These are eternslly important. #EduGladiators
A3 any tool that grades for you helps cut down time, flipping your class saves time in class, and teamwork- don’t do it all by yourself...spread the work load to make it thinner and manageable #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A3: I will calendar time for specific tasks to avoid overbooking my time and letting tasks pile up. I often work late to allow me time to be "present" for others

A4. I used to constantly go back to Dufour’s big questions
1) What do we want Ss to know?
2) How do we know when they know it?
3) What do we do if they don’t or already do?
That should keep everything focused on professional growth and the Ss. #EduGladiators
#edugladiators A4: What crops have I sown? Are these the crops I intended to harvest?
Pay attention to test scores, because they ARE feedback. But then ask yourself if that feedback has meaning or is worth responding to. Or if you have other, more useful forms of feedback.
A3: To lead we have to do more than our out fires! So to make time to do the important work we must block out time in our calendar for classroom tim, we must empower our support staff to make decisions & clearly communicate our priorities—learning! #edugladiators
A4. What do the students need at this point? What areas of interest need more time? This keeps them engaged while challenging me to find a new approach. That's a great way for me to keep focused. #edugladiators
A4 What matters? What matters for kids? What did we not get to? How do we prep for "THE Next"? Ask students, Is there anything you want to know, revisit, expand on? #EduGladiators
A3: like many, google calendar is an amazing assistant to support my plans. I also ask my secretary to keep up with it and force me to do what I need. Finally, I set goals for each day and work hard to make them. #edugladiators

A4: Q's to ask myself/Ts-Is what I'm doing working? How can I keep my Ss more engaged?
Q's to ask my Ss-What would YOU like to do with this topic? Give the class some ideas and let's see how we can work with that. How are you feeling today? #EduGladiators Ss mindset matters too
A4: As a leader, I constantly think about: How am I supporting my staff? If I was a teacher, would I want to work here? How am I helping my staff to develop at the end of the year and help them to think about their PD for summer/next year? #edugladiators
A4 Are my students ready to conquer 4th grade? Have they learned to be bette people/collaborators/problem solvers? Did they gain the knowledge to build relationships and be respectful citizens? #edugladiators
What 3 things did you accomplish this year? How will you celebrate with your students to end the year? What do you want your students to remember about you as a T? #edugladiators
A3: My lesson plans are a hot mess right now, I will admit, because I am trying to write down everything I need to do every day and use another color for the non-lesson related stuff. But if it isn’t written down, it isn’t happening! #EduGladiators
A4: Have Ss measure their growth in class. Have Ts evaluate what strategies they tried that worked & where to tweak. Focus on wins & learn from mishaps.
#edugladiators
A4: I don't have state assessments in PreK! I do have end-of-the-year assessments. I want to see is growth and still enjoying learning! We are getting chicks to incubate and caterpillars to watch make cocoons. We release the butterflies into our outdoor classroom. #EduGladiators

A4) How are we using our minutes? Does every minute matter or are we just doing “crafts” and “activities”? We have to stay focused on student growth, academic and personal #EduGladiators
A3 I set aside a limited amount of time at the end of the day to reflect and then I wipe the slate clean. I try not to carry today’s burdens into tomorrow.#edugladiators
Great chat today @PaulONeill1972#FINISHSTRONG, Put Kids First, Take care of yourself. Great take-aways from #EduGladiators today!
Have a great break evertyone! See you soon.
A2: Kids help teach! One of my fav prts of spring in 1st grade is inviting our young scientists to be "Featured Scientists." After lots of demonstrations, they plan, set up & teach others. Then, they coach their friends as we all document our lrng for posterity. #EduGladiators
A4: Keeping the conversations about students & how they are doing, learning and what they are experiencing. Keeping grades/scores as a third point #EduGladiators
A4: What are you doing to make each minute in each school day not only count for kids, but MATTER to kids? How will they benefit from their last days with you? #EduGladiators
A4 Take a step back and ask the big questions, “Where are my kids going to be next year? Are they set up for success? How is the SEL in my class in parallel with academic rigor?” #edugladiators
A4: I've been asking questions about struggles that teachers see students having in order to get that focus on where we need to go between now and the end of the year. #EduGladiators
A3. This is a struggle for me-write in planbook then see exciting booktalk on twitter for kids, Skyping, etc -so many ideas - I have been lagging behind but will catch up- hard to pass by these amazing opportunities for my kids outside our walls! #edugladiators
A4: When my students walk out on the last day of school, will they be sprinting or lingering for just a little more? What will they take with them? No matter that last score, do they know they grew and learned something of value? #edugladiators
I charged my VP and I to be in the hallway during every hallway switch. Of course, certain meetings wouldn’t allow it. However, Ss knew. At least there were key areas to be. So I would post myself there. You know a number of Ss couldn’t stand my ubiquity. #EduGladiators
A4: Keeping our eyes on the prize—where am I on the curriculum map? What are the big ideas/concepts that ALL students must have before they leave my class for the year? What adjustments do I need to make to ensure ALL students get it? #edugladiators
A4: Are my students at an advantage because I am their teacher? If my class was voluntary, would my room be filled?
#edugladiators#thepowerofreflection
Conversations are a key. Always seeking ways to build opportunities for more conversations with students and colleagues. This actually would be a good future chat topic! #EduGladiators
A4: Are my students still learning? Am I still on top of my game? Are my Ss still excited and happy? Am I still excited and happy? If I’m not excited, my Ss won’t be either. #EduGladiators
A4 Since numbers don’t help you build relationships w/Ss I would say you need to ask...will this motivate/grow my Ss & can they connect with the activity? #EduGladiators
A4: Are my students at an advantage because I am their teacher? If my class was voluntary, would my room be filled?
#edugladiators#thepowerofreflection
A4. We must ask ourselves “is this student better now than they were in Aug.” Did the Ss grow in my class? Ss do not start school in the same academic place so this would be an individual Ss question. The answers may be different per Ss. #edugladiators
A4: What soft skills can Ts help Ss sharpen while exploring topics that interests students and help them utilize their gifts and talents? #EduGladiators
Julie, hallway presence allows you to know and handle the climate. Being present in the classrooms and know what is going during instruction and assessments, let’s you know about and handle the culture. Leaders need to have that balance. #EduGladiators
A4. Is what we are doing for us or for OUR KIDS? Are we benefiting ourself or OUR KIDS? Would we WANT to be learning in our classroom? Be uncomfortable and let go of the old ways and embrace new for OUR KIDS!
#edugladiators
A4: Reflect w/ kids on what we've learned; look thru cls blog, pics, lrng trail on walls in rm. "Is there anything else we'd love to lrn tog before our last day? Where should we focus our time - going deeper or hitting something new?" Cont. rdg books that chng us. #EduGladiators
We #EduGladiators often have several ideas and projects on our minds at any given time. Prioritize and focus by committing to NOT working on a project to maintain focus on the most important or current project.

A3: I have a self check in once a week. I use that time to review my calendar to ensure it reflects my priorities (both professional and personal). I provide flex time closer to the end of the week if I need to reprioritize and shift certain tasks. #edugladiators#togetherleader
A2: Mental endurance can be strengthened - focus on your WHY, visualize your end goal and it’s larger purpose, put on your favorite song or bring your personal interests into the push, and feel confident and strong all the way to the finish line. #edugladiators#selfcare
A2. Been reading Stoic philosophy this year: The Daily Stoic by @RyanHoliday has been good daily meditation. Also taking to heart the mantra "The obstacle is the way." #edugladiators
Wow! So engaging! I'm sure your kids love being in your class! Some of my other favorites are the Share Sessions that we host throughout K & then the expert projects we teach through several times a year during K & 1st. @geniushour looks amazing! #EduGladiators

A2. Be conscious of smiling and laughing every day. You can do these things no matter how tired you are. You just need to choose to make it happen. #EduGladiators
a2: Let's be true..there are growing responsibilities all year long..but one of my favorite @JonGordon11 quotes is what balances me: #edugladiators#pln365
Yes Chris! I also had multi year data and used to show staff, parents and community trends. So when I needed to do something different, I always provided everyone data to justify the need. I would have few concerns, but people saw success most of the time. #EduGladiators
As an HS science teacher, I save the fun stuff for the end of the year - genetics, dissections, making chemicals for learning stoichiometry. #EduGladiators
Yes! Same idea in my theatre classes. Last MP is about large scale projects like creating a production company & senior directing. Things that being it all together with purpose & application for "real world". #EduGladiators
