Hi Adam, @AdamBrownEDU, and the #champforkids fam. I'm Steph Dill, elelmentary SPED T in Colorado. I may actually be staying home for the holiday this year.
Phil from Northern Virginia. I teach US History I&II and am the founder of #waledchat (Thurs @ 9pm ET) and #Edusations (Youtube). Very excited to spend Christmas with @LBStrunk's family in Cumberland, MD. This year! (Going there this weekend too for cookie baking!) #champforkids
Hi #champforkids friends! Jessica here, from TX - 5th grade reading teacher. My plans for the holidays are to catch up with family, feast on books, and enjoy the advent season.
Good evening Champions, Basil Marin Assistant Principal from Norfolk, Va. I am excited to learn from educators who are invested in seeing their students succeed by being a positive impactful champion. All students deserve to have somone who cares!#champforkids
ALL of our kids are coming home!! Three from San Antonio, two from Lawrence, KS, two from Kansas City. We're going to have a house full! Did I mention that will include at least 6 dogs, too?? 😍 #champforkids
A1: The kids keep me motivated. It is important to remember why we are here. Going to watch a sporting event or an event the students are in helps with motivation. #champforkids
A1: Motivation does differ from person to person. For me it is doing what makes me feel good, reading, sewing, going for hikes. Being with friends and family. Doing for me so I can work to give my littles what they need. #champforkids
A1 I think this def differs from new to veteran Ts. For me challenging myself keeps me motivated! I am excited and driven by trying new things w/new Ts and Ss. Would love to hear from new Ts @MarapaoMs@carleyareff@smith_caitlinm#champforkids
A1: I think seeing the growth and curiosity increase in our kids motivates and inspires. I honestly think this changes as we become more seasoned. I look for internal motivators to help me externally motivate others. #champforkids
A1: As a veteran teacher, something that gets me motivated is when I have an exciting era of history to talk about or one of those "homerun" lessons where you get to see students love learning! #champforkids
A1: I think the motivation changes amongst new and vet Ts. Passion & wanting to make a difference & help Ss feel worthwhile is what I think keeps Ts motivated #champforkids
A1: Yes it differs.. veterans focus on challenging and diving deeper. New Ts focus on staying afloat, meeting compliance pieces, understanding basics of getting into the profession #champforkids
A1: What keeps me motivated is the look in the eyes when something clicks.
I work with kids that struggle in math. I love it when they 'get it'. They can't wait to share with everyone. And I can't wait to share either.
#champforkids

A1) Motivation is internal however the support and acknowledgement that comes from being part of something greater than yourself enhances our motivation. #champforkids
A1: outside of intrinsic motivation, I’d say an engaged group of kids, friendly co-workers, and a supportive administration. A sense of belonging goes a long way towards motivating. #champforkids
A1: Twitter chats! Seriously. It keeps me challenged and inspired and makes me realize this is more than a job. I always feel better after a good chat! #champforkids
A1: We should be their safe place, a place where they know they are loved, where expectations are clear, where they feel safe. Knowing that we are that for our kids should motivate us to show up each day and give 110% #champforkids
A1b: new- affirmations on successes and what going well, confirmation that they are doing what they should, building relationships and getting into the profession #champforkids

A1 The kids keep me motivated and all the great resources, tech tools and people we have access too 😀I’m excited most days to get learning with the kids #champforkids

It was great. You should definitely go. You should present on #champforkids. It would be a kick butt presentation. ISTE19 is in Philly, so that is an option too.
A1: Ts you surround yourself with can be positive or focus on negative. You want to be around Ts making you better & who you can motivate too. It’s crucial for new Ts so they don’t “burn out” too early & for veteran Ts so they don’t get overwhelmed with “new” #champforkids
Hawthorne Elementary School fifth graders have been participating in “The Amazing Shake,” a competition started by the Ron Clark Academy (@mrronclark_) to teach kids skills they will need as they enter the workforce. Take a look at how well they’ve done!
A1 I think motivation comes from the feeling of purpose and passion. New teachers have it because everything is fresh and new. Veteran teachers cultivate it by trying new things. #champforkids
A1b: new- affirmations on successes and what going well, confirmation that they are doing what they should, building relationships and getting into the profession #champforkids
Hey there! Sherri from @ThirstyBeesNY coming late to the party. I'm hoping to do some resting, writing, and hiking over the break. And, if we get some snow, either cross country skiing or snow shoeing. #champforkids
A2: continuing to create positive culture, offering feedback that grows and shows continued learning, notes to let them know they matter.. think a lot relates to what we want Ts to do with Ss. #champforkids
A2: It's our job to model building relationships with staff and building relational trust. By making connections and having teachers feel "heard, listened to and supported" they will work harder on your behalf. #champforkids
A2: Leaders should be cheerleading educators towards success. Stop in and find the great work that is being done...celebrate the staff and the good work being done. Be part of the action! #champforkids
A2: For me, very little. I don't feel that it's anyone else's responsibility to motivate me. My motivation comes from my desire to help students.
#champforkids
A2) I recently had a reminder that my energy sets the tone for the building. A very special thank you to my support system for reminding me of that. #champforkids
A2: When leaders empower Ts to be difference-makers, they create a space where risk-taking is encouraged. That encouragement motivates teachers to continue to push for the greatness within. #champforkids@ERobbPrincipal
A1: The attitude of the leaders filters directly down to teachers and therefore students. Their attitudes set the tone for the entire building whether positive or negative. #champforkids
A1: I think that, as long as a teacher, new or veteran, feels trusted and supported, they will be able to stay motivated. It's when they don't feel valued that they really start to decline in both morale and energy. #champforkids
A2: building environment feeling is made by leaders modeling great sensations and vibes. If the building is comfortable and inviting, staff will be happier and content. #champforkids
A2: Leaders need to make sure to be aware of the climate of the stakeholders in the building and strive to bring up those who are having a tough time. Be available. Listen. #champforkids
A2: I think there is so much value in seeing everyone as leaders, not just administration. When we take on this perspective, we value peer, student, and personal feedback. It’s all valuable! #champforkids
A2: building environment feeling is made by leaders modeling great sensations and vibes. If the building is comfortable and inviting, staff will be happier and content. #champforkids
A2: True leaders recognize potential as well as frustration & provide necessary support or praise as needed. Leaders must be positive, encouraging, solution oriented & determined to succeed while taking risks. By modeling this, Ts are motivated to do the same #champforkids
A2b: A supportive leadership team empowers risk-taking and innovation. They recognize that support and empowerment fuels growth and learning. #champforkids
A2: I'm responsible for my own motivation, but the leaders of the school can help enhance that motivation.
Knowing that I can shout and sing with my students, and stand on my desk, without worrying about my leaders stifling creativity is priceless.
#champforkids
Jumping in late #champforkids. Cori Ann, an AP from Bismarck, ND
A1: I think it goes back to your love for kids and ultimately your WHY. IF you know your why your what has a greater impact. Visit your why often and reflect on your successes throughout the year.
A2: I feel as though the motivation is often overpowered by the list of to-do's by the T for the admin; however, there should be some push of moitivation (depending on how that would look) #champforkids
A2b: A supportive leadership team empowers risk-taking and innovation. They recognize that support and empowerment fuels growth and learning. #champforkids
A2: Ed leaders are accountable for supporting Ts throughout the year especially new teachers who are feeling overwhelmed. Teachers who leave the field typically attribute their decision to unsupportive administration and teacher leaders. We have to provide support!!!#champforkids
A2~true, authentic leaders know their staff. period.
~They know what motivates them, what makes them tick, has their back
~these leaders engage in action steps that speaks volumes about relationship... small gestures, kind words, 👍 #realdeal#champforkids
A2 leaders must set the tone for a supportive and hope filled culture! More I got your back than I gotchas... looking for ways to support and develop over criticize and critique #champforkids
A2 In sharing the important work I do w/ others, I am welcoming them to join in on the learning.
Similarly, I have a responsibility to my colleagues & their Ss to
*pass along resources,
*share interesting connections,
*pose significant questions
and more.
#champforkids
A2: They need to be there for them. Leaders need to listen, encourage, support, celebrate, provide positive feedback, provide help when needed, and not be overbearing or over-demanding, #champforkids
A2 Leaders set the tone for the building and determine what is important for the community. An ineffective leader can quickly take the wind out of everyone's sails with a poor management or lack of consistency. #champforkids
A2 leaders must set the tone for a supportive and hope filled culture! More I got your back than I gotchas... looking for ways to support and develop over criticize and critique #champforkids
A2: The role model is a great place to start. The way leaders show up and are present each day is huge! Show up, invest, and be the change you want to see. #champforkids
A3: Teachers need to be positive and show students that they love what they teach in order for students to love it. Positivity is contagious! #champforkids
A3: A motivated T is one who is willing to take risks and innovate, to make learning fun and accessible for ALL students. The motivated T will inspire others to do the same. #champforkids
A3: The Motivated motivate. Students can see through non-motivated educators. Authentic motivation can be contagious and spark inspiration! #champforkids
A3: Motivated Ts are positive and open minded; therefore, they pass the positivity and growth mindset on to their Ss. They push to be outside the box and drive success through innovative learning. Ss feel supported and are set up for success. #champforkids
A3 Our kiddos want Ts who WANT to be there with them each day. If we work hard and try new things, they will to. We have to set the stage for motivation by BEING motivated ourselves. #champforkids
A3: A motivated teacher leads their students in the same way that a motivated administrator leads teachers. Positive energy and support given to our students helps them to grow and thrive. #champforkids
I would agree & disagree. I do think that leaders can impact the culture of the building and help create a culture of growth / willingness to take risks which can help to motivate Ts. I agree that each person has a responsibility for their happiness & motivation. #champforkids
A3: A motivated T is one who is willing to take risks and innovate, to make learning fun and accessible for ALL students. The motivated T will inspire others to do the same. #champforkids

A3: Find your tribe!! Those who get it, who motivate you to keep going on even the toughest days. We've all been there. PLN! I appreciate you! 😍 #champforkids
A3: A motivated teacher is one that is solution-oriented, that seeks every student's success, that grows and improves in their career, that enjoys what they are doing. Students benefit from all of these.
#champforkids
A3. Kids follow the lead for sure- in middle school especially, they don’t always show it but they love it and will remember the feeling! Remembering that it’s not about reciprocation, it’s about knowing what they need/want outside of their social persona. #champforkids
A3 A motivated teacher brings:
*joy
*excitement
*interesting engagements
*powerful resources
*knowledge
*invitation for others (parents, other Ss & Ts to join in!)
*even more questions!
#champforkids
A3: A motivated teacher exuberates a feeling of excitement that isn't forced. While doing this, things become more authentic and meaningful for Ss and their want to learn. #champforkids
A3: The impact of a motivated teacher is huge! Students will see and feel that motivation, especially when accompanied by enthusiasm, passion, positivity, and fun. Students will engage, and engaged students will learn. #champforkids
A3~
~they create learning experiences that are engaging, challenging
~offer the learners opportunities to shine as they are 😊
~just so positive to be around and their feeling of endless possibilities & ❤️ is simply contagious ~ I’m in ✅
#champforkids
A3: A motivated teacher exuberates a feeling of excitement that isn't forced. While doing this, things become more authentic and meaningful for Ss and their want to learn. #champforkids
A3: A motivated teacher changes lives. Plain and Simple. In some cases, we may be the only person that believes in that student.
We all had that teacher that inspired us. As motivated teachers, we can be that teacher for our students.
#champforkids
A3: They don’t give up and do whatever it takes so that their Ss are successful. They model taking risks, having a growth mindset, approaching obstacles as stepping stones, & being reflective along the way. They’re positive & promote being focused on achieving #champforkids
A3: The impact of a motivated teacher is huge! Students will see and feel that motivation, especially when accompanied by enthusiasm, passion, positivity, and fun. Students will engage, and engaged students will learn. #champforkids
A3: The Motivated motivate. Students can see through non-motivated educators. Authentic motivation can be contagious and spark inspiration! #champforkids
A3: Octavius here jumping in from a basketball game, it is crucial the the leaders support Ts, if a T is motivated he/she will take the necessary risk to motivate Ss! #champforkids
A3: The Motivated motivate. Students can see through non-motivated educators. Authentic motivation can be contagious and spark inspiration! #champforkids
A3: By being an activator, teachers are able to call out greatness in their Ss. I remind myself of the power of my Ss with the personal mantra to listen more and speak less. #champforkids
A3: Kids want to learn from someone that is excited about teaching. When they see it in their teacher it becomes contagious. Kids increase their knowledge. #champforkids
A4: We MUST have an intentional self-care plan that assures us that our cup is full (of more than just the school love) so we have plenty to give! #champforkids
A3: makes ss feel safe and loved. It inspires them to be themselves and try their hardest. If a tt is going to try that hard and believe in me, maybe it’s time I do too!! #champforkids
A4: take time to do things that you enjoy, continue to learn, change things up in class, collaborate with others, have fun, build relationships, do lots of twitter chats!!! #champforkids
A3. Kids follow the lead for sure- in middle school especially, they don’t always show it but they love it and will remember the feeling! Remembering that it’s not about reciprocation, it’s about knowing what they need/want outside of their social persona. #champforkids
A3: A motivated teachers operates from a growth mindset lens and they are able to think outside of the box to engage their Ss. They are also more like to be social emotional competent Ts and able to meet the needs of the whole child through relationships!
#champforkids
I hope that some of you will slide on over to #fcpslearn at 8:30 ET. @MonsieurBracken will be captaining the team tonight. You won't want to miss this one. #champforkids
Q4 is coming up! Hey #champforkids - I'd love to have y'all hop on over & join us in #ShiftThis when you finish up!!! Great conversation about shifting mindsets!
A4: It's always easier to stay motivated when one feels like they are moving forward in their profession. Being a lifelong learner goes a long way in sustaining one's motivation.
#champforkids
A4: Want to stay motivated? Leave it all at school. Close each and every door emotionally as you do so physically on your way home every day, confident that it will be there when you get back and that you deserve the ME time and family time at night! #champforkids
A4. Take a step back. Gaining outside perspective reminds us not to always take student behavior personally-they are battling nature, nurture, and every battle in between. We are often collateral damage because they feel safe enough to “say it” with their actions #champforkids
A4: I know it’s already been said, but it can’t be stressed enough...find your tribe. Surround yourself with educators who are passionate about growing and reaching the kids. #champforkids
A4 connecting w Ts through #pln is motivating, working to push Ts out of their comfort zone in my building is motivating, planning Ss goals with them is motivating!!!! #champforkids
A4: Teachers need to find new and exciting ways to teach content. If it’s fun for you, it’ll be fun for the kids, too. Also, having teachers that you can lean on is major #champforkids
A4: My #1-use your support system. Reach out to fellow teacher in and out of your building. This work is too tough to go at it alone. We need each other....and don't forget your specialists, social worker, counselor, administration, etc. #champforkids
A4: I take a few moments to learn something new from my students (like a new dance or a new song) or attend an event that they are participating in. It is nice to see them shine at something they enjoy & allows you to interact with them in a different way. #champforkids
A4 Make time regularly to coach in a colleague's classroom.
The more we visit others & join in on their lrng,
watch their interactions w/ their children,
capture their contagious enthusiasm --
the more motivated we become in our own little worlds!
#champforkids
A4: Practice mindfulness or, at the very least, take some time to take care of self. Do something fun, step away, take a mental health day, whatever works to help refocus on the students and the why. #champforkids
A4: when all else fails, I turn everything into at least. At least I showed up today. At least I made ss laugh when I sang “5 golden rings,” only golden rings part. at least... and if that doesn’t work, I listen to music. This is mine right https://t.co/9B2yWDJoGO#champforkids
Thank you so much to @AdamBrownEDU for a MOTIVATING chat! Continuethe conversation all week using #champforkids and be sure to follow each other to expand your #PLN family ❤️❤️🥊❤️❤️
A5: I'd find little things or quick wins to point out to them throughout the day and over multiple days. Get them to see the "good" that is happening all around them. Maybe they will point out some things to you as well. #champforkids Be an influencer.
A4: allow opportunities for students to take ownership of their learning by creating a classroom culture that is student-driven: learning is a joint venture #champforkids
A4: I keep notes from my students, leaders, and mentors close by. When I have one of those days where I wonder why I changed professions, it only takes one look at the notes to know I made the right decision,
#champforkids
A4 Do something for you in the classroom. I have found that sometimes something as simple as 80's pop music during work time can make us laugh, And if "Don't stop believein comes on...BONUS!!! #champforkids
a4 #champforkids When the line is blurred between hobby, home and work. I look to keep work only in one corner and must read to relax as well. But I am also motivated and inspired by home, it helps work ideas germinate
#whatisschool
I’ve been being a #champforkids for my own kid, 10 month old needed a bath...and she can’t do it herself but.....
A4: Ts can surround themselves with colleagues that are positive. Positivity breeds positivity, I am positive. ;)
Love this! Get into other people’s room and invite others in! Be open to ideas and feedback and give ideas and feedback as well! ❤️❤️🥊❤️❤️ #champforkids
