The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
I feel a little envious ... weather wise ... everybody enjoying the cooler Fall weather (except for my Southern Hemisphere Tweeps who are in Spring) us Florida people still having temps in the low 90s #bfc530
Hmm..i think it depends on the visitor, but I would hope they would see students all over the classroom working; but someone else could see that as chaos #bfc530
They’d notice the “learniture” — flexible furniture! And I hope they’d notice the author selfies and the book rec boards that get built over the course of the year #BFC530
A visitor to my media center would be greeted, so they would notice that the space is welcoming from a personal standpoint. Working on ways to make it more welcoming otherwise. #bfc530
Gm the walls. They are covered with something to think about. Not always subject related. A pic of Cardi B’s baby’s crib has gotten a lot of comments lately. #BFC530
The first thing a visitor would notice in my room is that the volume is loud and that the students are working together in groups. They will also notice that the teacher is not giving answers, but asking students questions so they can find their own answers. *most days #bfc530
Good morning, friends! Creating a presentation on using social media to grow your Pedagogy...since I was praising this morning crew, thought I should jump on and say hi! 😜 #BFC530
An inviting classroom library and student projects hanging around the room. Not so many posters, as I'd rather have their eyes focus on their own creative awesomeness. Colored pencils, markers and crayons are our friends, folks. #bfc530#crayonchallenge#creativity#readdaily

I don’t have a classroom; however, I visit classrooms every day. First thing I notice is-where the teacher is in relation to the Ss, I love it when I have to really look-when the Ts are in the thick of things with Ss! #bfc530
Good morning #BFC530. The first thing a visitor would see is the many curious student faces quickly fooowed by many questions. They would hear those questions asked in several languages.
Twenty years ago, I would have said, students at their desks quietly working. Now, they'd see students all over the place, talking, moving, collaborating, exploring. #bfc530
If a visitor walked into my classroom, they always notice the plethora of seating options....oh, and the Dr Who stuff. Especially the TARDIS behind the door #BFC530
A visitor walking in would notice my students' writing and artwork on the walls and I hope they would feel the joy that spreads through our days. And the fish tank. They'd probably notice the fish tank. #bfc530
Isn’t it funny how the same space can look different through different eyes? In education, some can think it is the best ever, while others criticize the same space. I have had both #bfc530
That it has elements of a traditional clssrm, but not quite. Visitors often comment on the baseball items such as posters, jerseys, etc & things like the Beatles poster and the "house". #bfc530
Most visitors who walk into my room have to do a double-check ... I get a lot of the WTF is this place ... it is not a single thing but rather everything #bfc530
Hmm..i think it depends on the visitor, but I would hope they would see students all over the classroom working; but someone else could see that as chaos #bfc530
I'm not in the classroom anymore, but was last year. If you walked into my room, you couldn't tell me from the students. I'd be working with them. #bfc530

I think they would see my passion for the written word everywhere in my room by quotes I have posted, my library and all the things I do to promote literacy/ reading. #bfc530
This was the same reaction from the four elected official visitors I had this month at my school:
Each said that the school felt like a happy place.
#bfc530
I see lots of classroom libraries and free seating and kids collaborating, groups of students not in the classroom but in the halls working together independently! So cool! #bfc530

I try to spend as much time as possible on the floor with my K kids...they like it when I’m part of the ‘mix’. 😊 But I do NOTICE my age when I get up! 😂#bfc530
Oh I got that in my last district ! The students loved the sand table, the random furniture, etc. Admin, not so much. Though the Child study team thought it was so inviting they had their mtgs there. It all is in the eye of the beholder ! #bfc530
In a few weeks (probably next) my Ss will be introduced to flexible seating. While cleaning up for open house I put everything except their pencil case in their book boxes. I can't wait to let them choose their seats!!! #bfc530
If it's during an activity day, they'd likely first notice the students are all standing & talking to their groups solving problems at their #vnps station.

We must have stumped @cybraryman1 with this question. I'm sure he is building his page of, "What would you see in my classroom", as we speak. 😂 #bfc530
Dont want the "decor" to bring a school vibe but as I tell my students, I spend more time in my clssrm than anywhere else in the world during waking hours. I know consensus is that kids should help design, but I see it like Im Mr. Rogers inviting them into my neighborhood #bfc530
It is when the classroom is open to the public. Kids come with their parents and show them their stuff. It is a lovely evening, as most of the time, it is very positive. Teacher just kind of stands around and says hi. #bfc530
No, we each have rooms with glass walls that surround it. That lets us move and utilize it in different ways. The best is when a bunch of various classes use it and we can collaborate ! #bfc530
I’m a strong believer in running for the joy of the experience...speed has never been my motivator...getting to experience the world around me in a different way is something I enjoy. #bfc530
I know these books well enough to help find things and I’m always getting in there to recommend like a matchmaker. It has generated more excitement about the books so I may do it every year!#bfc530
Very filled! Baseball posters and jerseys, a Beatles poster, quotes, behind my desk pictures of my life, , make shift banners w/signatures of my players who won country championships, former students who have made the papers, etc. #bfc530
Reminds me of when I turned my room into a poetry cafe. I lowered all my desks to coffee table height and the students came in to discover a mix of oddball chairs and stools borrowed from all over the school. #bfc530
In our last PD session we had a gallery walk: Ts were to look at how the space was used to impact learning. Incredible how different the reactions to a classroom can be. For one room a T wrote "the walls are too busy" while another T wrote "warm & inviting" #bfc530
That is what's important ! It was hard for me to adjust as the fast runner winning races to the slow runner finishing- but training hasn't worked w/my lifestyle the past few years. It's humbling but shows that strength comes in different forms & health is what matters ! #bfc530
Kia ora, In the Southern Hemisphere we are@in our last term of the year, we’re looking at using cardboard boxes to design our working space - check it out https://t.co/tTaw6gqYYE#bfc530
Very cool, love the modern look! I like the idea of movable pieces, or just different spaces in a larger classroom. I have desks for direct instruction and areas with tables for collaborative work. But my Ss have been loving to pull up chairs to the window 🤷🏼♀️ #bfc530

I always try to have my back to school night presentation mimic what I do in the classroom. I want my parents to say "That explains a lot of what my child is saying about him" (be it good or bad LOL) #bfc530
I used to as well, but I have a colleague with a very loud voice who frequently lectures and it is hard to tune out, so we open-close-open-close all day!#bfc530
For sure..my form/time of exercise changes every few years as my personal/professional life changes. Now I am a before school at the gym. But I have run the gamut. Running, Zumba, yoga, weight lifting, elliptical, walking etc. Find what works #bfc530
#bfc530 Morning all ... a bit of a tour of the PROJECT EXTRA Classroom and Makerspace out here in Oceanside, NY. Ever in the area ... come on over and say "hi"! :)
We sent 15 teams of journalists to spend a day with teachers. What we found: they feel misunderstood, unheard and disrespected. And their concerns go far beyond salary. https://t.co/2XC1lyfDS2
Here's my latest DonorsChoose project - small "tables" for my students to work on with their chrome books. Would you please pass along for me? #bfc530https://t.co/IjHiwMooio
I need to take your advice. Stopped running when I broke my toe and it's been so hard for me to get back to any kind of exercise routine. I seem to be stuck in the "running or nothing" mindset. Ugh. #bfc530
Chaos!! Lots of discussion, some students on Twitter, others working on a hands on project, some vlogging, some brainstorming next projects and some doing nothing. We are 100 percent student led project based so it is very messy at times. #bfc530
I’m the same way - Having been in the elementary world I remember how dizzying it felt to walk into a room wallpapered with bright posters, all designed to be “eye-catching” on their own...some space dedicated to student work and key info does the trick #bfc530
Great idea. I've been inspired by what I've seen today. In our school we may not have the $$ to do some of the things that have been shared but with a little creativity I think we could at least create the same "feeling". #bfc530
That’s how I roll, too! If I get it, the kids get it, and learning is happening that’s what counts! If I can explain the workflow well enough for the students to execute it, then I can explain it all to a confused visitor after class. What works for kids always comes 1st! #bfc530
I agree - the walls are more meaningful if they're student made. Anchor charts with their thoughts, interactive walls with their post-it notes, etc. #bfc530
Wish I had wall space like this - I'd use it all the time. Instead, I have to hang poster paper around the building and have kids travel to post. I call it "exploring". They work for answers in their groups, then travel to post on the poster paper like a treasure hunt. #bfc530
Agreed! Too much to read, like it's yelling at you. Rules for this! Write like this! Remember this! Let's just see how we present our knowledge through projects and papers. I'm good with that. #bfc530
So much fun creating empathy AND showing the difference between inference and description working with tableau yesterday. My favorite lesson of the year ❤️ #forsythpln#mschat#bfc530
Good morning #bfc530. When I was in the classroom it was always noisy with activities. I used to close my door because of the other teachers complaining.

We bought showerboard/panel board from Lowe's - cost about 30$ per 4x8' sheet... I think it's more like 50$ each now because they're on to us teachers 😉
Way cheaper than commercial whiteboards. #bfc530#vnps
It depends on the day. If it’s a direct instruction day, they may notice the kitchen table or recliners in the room. If it’s a @_danmeyer Three Act Math day, huge white boards are in the middle of the room and Ss discuss the problem and walk around. #bfc530#redbud132
Exhausting week driving 80 miles a day taking wife for radiation treatments. First thing you would see entering my classroom or library was decorations for that time of year. On Calendar page https://t.co/IT4qM21OYl see: Monthly Calendar as one feature you would see. #bfc530

I have a very small space, half of a closet. Anyway this year I got a small round table, dumped the legs and pillows for everyone. Yes I even sit on the floor all day. Good thing I enjoy sitting on the floor. #BFC530
