Feels like everybody's break is different this year. We go 4/2.
It's my first day back after break. Looking for coffee...
Today's : Examples/resources/methods to help move from fixed to growth mindset at school? - https://t.co/DaseGwzW6q
Good morning! Hope this winter blast is Nice to everyone.
Good morning from Kuwait!
Good morning only 3 days till spring break
Good morning! Oona from NJ. I teach 11th and 12th grade ELA.
I spent summers with my grandparents in Cotuit. Great memories there!
Ongoing formative assessments help both Ts & Ss w/ growth mindset. Identify gaps early & achieve success. https://t.co/Phi3TIu0ER
IT is late, but I don't mind. It breaks up those last 3 months better.
Good morning Tracy from MA here. Listening to wind howl.
Good morning! Stacey from NJ. Sad we don't have a snow day. ☃
Not happy about the winter blast but always happy to talk with my tweeps!
I explicitly teach growth mindset at the beginning of the year to my 3rd graders.
Things are going well. How are things with you? How was your weekend?
Good morning . Ready for Monday?
One baby step is to always point out effort in people. If they see effort is valued, they will put more effort in.
those anticipated delays are a little like waiting for Christmas morning.
Jealous. Mine begins 4/11.
Agree, had flurries and chill last night, but spring a comin !!! https://t.co/ioMGLMLPZj
Not happy about the winter blast but always happy to talk with my tweeps!
Excellent point, Kelly! You speak the truth!
That sounds like my district.
We just have rain but I'm ready for warm weather to return!
Agreed. But I am still jealous that others are on vacay! ;-)
And that wind in NC brings a yellow glow to everything...pollen. Good morning most awesome educators! https://t.co/d8oAjwpVXk
Good morning ! I'm Rosy. I teach 5th gr in DE
Great way to rock the T-Shirt! I debuted mine at on Sat.
Reading Mindsets in the Classroom by Mary Cay Ricci was such a help as both teacher and parent!
Our school has put up loads of growth mindset posters, and we encourage the Power of Yet in classrooms
If all grading becomes about practice and mastery then your planning will reflect a growth mindset.
Seeing growth model exemplars is a good start in shifting thinking .Always good to see Ts and Ss that do this well
I would love to know what that looks like...mini lessons? https://t.co/S27YycYQco
I explicitly teach growth mindset at the beginning of the year to my 3rd graders.
I agree. I definitely didn't drink this much coffee before teaching.
I love that. the power of yet.
I'll throw out my method...a no zero policy, PBL, all under a competency based framework at my school. Works wonders!
Just like with Ss, giving Ts choice & voice can help move from fixed to growth mindset...realizing possibilities helps to motivate.
Lots of children's literature. Poster growth mindset vs fixed mindset. Writer's notebook entries
A delay would have been nice :).
Using the language of growth mindset is imperative when conducting reading conferences w/ Ss https://t.co/mYTGyhsP3c
Morning! Kaarina from Ontario here this morning.
Good morning Lori from Ohio joining for a few minutes!
Good reminder. I never thought about it that way.
Yes! The grading must change from a time based model to a mastery model. Whatever it takes!
Good morning! Brad from NJ here. Positive, actionable, and timely feedback has helped encourage a growth mindset in my classes
On Friday, Ss had to make bird beaks, we talked about growth mindset, grit, learning from our mistakes etc.
Join Tue 3/22 at 8pm ET for with
Goal setting w Ss has been so powerful
One area that I'd like to grow in as a T is learning more about curriculum compacting, acceleration & enrichment in HS ELA classes
I model growth. Explore, never give up, fail forward. My word for the school yr is . Shared it w my Ts. https://t.co/4OEl68eV9A
Indeed! Tap into the power of modeling - Ts & Ss.
And then model and reinforce it all year? What are some of the ways that you do that?
Knowing my current status as a learner is key. It's also important to know that state is not end result
Love all the promotional stuff but we need concrete things we can do in classrooms now. What about your practice shows G.Mindset?
Good morning friends, and happy Monday! When we talk of growth mindset, are we thinking Ss, Ts, admin, or all 3?
Ss using learning targets to self assess helps keep them focused how how to get where they need to be.
We read the dot, Ish and celebrate international dot day.
I am a big fan of revise and resubmit to show growth.
I give my Ss multiple opportunities; it's never one shot only
I often see people mention growth mindset but their examples lack actionable elements.
Especially if that common growth language is something Ss experience throughout their school day, classroom to classroom.
I do a lot more pre-assessment with my classes now, both informal and formal.
Yes! Through everything we do! My read alouds, science experiments, STEM activities, genius hour
I don't believe that one can simply change an attitude. Change a policy and watch hearts and minds follow.
Model a reflective life, encourage thinking aloud, celebrate failures that lead to retrying, mastery-based assessment vs. 1 and done
The most magnificent thing is my favorite growth mindset book
good point, encouraging Ss input, choice, flexibility in lessons and 2nd, 3rd chances ..... https://t.co/epETciGrp1
Love all the promotional stuff but we need concrete things we can do in classrooms now. What about your practice shows G.Mindset?
I'm curious too https://t.co/DO7iUELltW

Live a growth mindset...it can be contagious among colleagues!
That's huge in 1st because they want to be good at everything now. I have to fight the temptation to expect that of me.
Teachers having more say and choice for Professional Learning is a huge move in the right direction. https://t.co/23Mpj0sQvJ
Just like with Ss, giving Ts choice & voice can help move from fixed to growth mindset...realizing possibilities helps to motivate.
I practice growth mindset when I use 's method for evaluating writing on performance, participation, progress
Yes sir! And the kids know that too so everyone is on the same page.
I think for it to work best, Ss need to see it modeled from Ts and admin (like with anything else)
is a FABULOUS read aloud for discussion around growth mindset
Excellent. ... yes! https://t.co/xg98EsmxPs
I do a lot more pre-assessment with my classes now, both informal and formal.
Definitely modeling and coaching. I think establishing a language around this at our schools is a start too.
Joining late because I was prepping for a long commute! Last minute just announced; having mixed feelings, b/c of my plans
Another way I would like to grow as a T is to learn more about brain-based learning and apply it in my classroom.
Nice point Tracy. Ss must be able to see and understand where they are going and what choices they have to get there.
I do as well (gr.6). Collection/compilation of images/prompts for discussion, & the brain science, etc. https://t.co/Rel2SKG7eM
I would love to know what that looks like...mini lessons? https://t.co/S27YycYQco

I think we all want things to come easily. The convo starts when we decide how to proceed if/when we fail.
When I saw that my class was not collectively enjoying researching for Genius Hour, we switched to allow making as well.
Change the school culture https://t.co/qH5wA4sbpI
I don't believe that one can simply change an attitude. Change a policy and watch hearts and minds follow.
yes can't legislate change, but set policies in place to encourage change and it grows over time https://t.co/oyY6VSUXcE
I don't believe that one can simply change an attitude. Change a policy and watch hearts and minds follow.
We have to begin shifting our language. It's a must!
If every teacher in a building allowed every assignment to be done twice, what would happen?
... I started w/ students then moved my thoughts to faculty.
Get in the habit of adding "yet"
I didn't want to have both, but the kids needed both choices. Big turning point for me. Realized they are more engaged.
The danger of not incorporating GM is that Ss, especially HS, will only meet my standards, never set or exceed their own.
And I never do "late points." Ss can bring it and master the material whenever they master it. Game changer.
have another cup of coffee and you will feel so much better !! https://t.co/astLjAPEIO
Joining late because I was prepping for a long commute! Last minute just announced; having mixed feelings, b/c of my plans
I also share with my Ss how I talk with you all every day so I can get better at teaching
Growth, AND Ss wouldn't need to be retaught certain skills over and over. https://t.co/twEt35L9R9
If every teacher in a building allowed every assignment to be done twice, what would happen?
True! This is not just a buzz word. It's about actions that facilitate an attitude in the Ss.
Adults have to be willing to try and fail too. That's modeling the growth mindset!! https://t.co/6sOJPRI0Hg
I think we all want things to come easily. The convo starts when we decide how to proceed if/when we fail.
that is great! We are getting just rain right now.
I've had to learn to modify concepts I read about so they work best for my Ss. I've found 's posts helpful for growth.
And, whoever writes curriculum needs to get that students might not get something the 1st time they hear it. Add in time to reteach.
Years ago when I taught 2nd, if a S shared the wrong ans, instead of yelling no, I taught my Ss to say, "Nice try, try again."
Students would learn, not only the material, but lesson on perseverance https://t.co/Eo3ocuFyz5
Growth, AND Ss wouldn't need to be retaught certain skills over and over. https://t.co/twEt35L9R9
If every teacher in a building allowed every assignment to be done twice, what would happen?
that's the way it should be! I don't do "points"-of any kind; grades, dojo, none of that
Our 2nd grade Ss graph first time and then use diff color to extend graph to help see growth stand out https://t.co/vfeKuvcmda
If every teacher in a building allowed every assignment to be done twice, what would happen?
simple claassroom policy change that probably helped kids understand that its okay to make mistakes.
I also use my daughters. They both play lax and I have shown videos of times when they could have given up and then magic happened.
Good morning campers… Mark here from Dunwoody GA
This is what I was about to say. Learning is continuous so why does it stop when we have a due date?
I love that!! https://t.co/4byIWRCj1W
And I never do "late points." Ss can bring it and master the material whenever they master it. Game changer.
. Thanks for sharing that!
All 3 and don't forget parents and community, as well.
I don't think this opened correctly for me. I'm curious to see this.
Growth and 'mindset' seem opposite in literal meaning and that bothers me when joined. Neuroplasticity. https://t.co/wvK52YwEL9
One of my all time favorites! A must read for everyone no matter which grade or subject you teach!
Join us for our to share your PL views...slowchat, see Q1a & Q1b til Tuesday night then Q2 at 7pm EDT Tues. 😊
exactly, we devalue the work if we till them it's not important after a certain date
gave kids time to re-examine their work and change their thinking/answer.
We talk about mistakes being glorious and beautiful and learning
its crazy making. The people who write curriculum don't consider a teacher's actual life.
Might as well! Wide awake now. Think I might knock off a blog post or 2 while the house is quiet
Stacey, you rock at everything you do.
I like having a discussion early in the year that I don't consider anything wrong unless a student doesn't try. We try & try again.
Less assignments, more chances.
I like the notion of celebrating T mistakes/failures...our important learning experiences!
