A slow chat intended for international educators in Africa and beyond but open to anyone who is interested of course. We chat weekly on Thursdays from August to June starting at 7am GMT and going until whenever.
a1. #AfricaEd one of the aspects of all-school tech roles I have personally enjoyed is engaging with kids from diff. grade levels & not just the ones I have taught. Be it a small team or larger projects, reaching out beyond the class impacts the school's culture positively.

a2. #AfricaEd 1. Inclusive of diff. stakeholders (age/grade level/gender etc). 2. Diverse in its offering. Rich menu of options catering to diff. interests. 3. Strong student leadership building capacity built into it.

☕️ Good morning #AfricaEd! Just a little survey to kickstart today’s chat, what’s the best time to start #AfricaEd Chat? Best time for connecting educators and learners!
A1 This year, I'm at a new school so still figuring it out. Got involved w/ a water polo club thx to a friend's invite. Having a blast learning & playing w/ kids. Also hope to be involved in our #compassion summit in the spring https://t.co/4rYpxP2yID#africaed
A1.2 These activities help us all grow. Ss get a different kind of learning & also get to see us in a different setting/atmosphere. Relationships are step 1 for any learning environment and good ASAs help build those relationships #africaed
Glad to see you! Thanks for making time! Coaching is a great way to connect with students. The kids enjoy learning and also seeing you in a different light. This compassion summit sounds real interesting. Are you the mentor for this group of students? #AfricaEd
Do you have your own little tech office with a little "drive-through" window so that kids can pop by, say hi, ask questions, engage in learning? #AfricaEd

haha...fortunately no! We have a spacious plush tech office with spaces for kids to come speak to me/us 1-1 or work with us in our tech conference room if needed. #AfricaEd

Having diversity and options is great! Been wondering for awhile now if we do enough to track skill development in ASA programs? For some activities, it seems easier. for e.g. sports and MUN. What about others? #AfricaEd

A1 I run an #afterschool#bookclub which turned into a book promoting club #studentchoice. They love it & want another semester. Here is a meme they made. can you find the Ss? #AfricaEd
#AfricaEd A1 Enjoy my teaching role but there is greater satisfaction in developing ss leaders & helping ss develop life skills. Tried many diff roles: outdoor Ed, director of school productions, student leadership/NJHS advisor, even a "Madam" in National Police Cadet Corps👮🏻♀️
Of course. School wide there are plenty of options. But we are also thinking of extending powers of our LMS to offer online courses/self-paced that kids can enroll into and take in their own time. Work in progress. #AfricaEd

It's not "other than" my formal teaching role, but I always try to engage students in areas outside the subject. Study skills, stress management, test preparation, life skills/lessons, etc.
So much potential! Please do! I think they will be very popular! And you know how children are, they just need a little spark to get them going! #AfricaEd

I'm not a mentor, but I'm hoping to offer a session or at least support. Also, I'm so glad you're keeping this going. Makes my heart warm to see this group continue to grow and share #AfricaEd
#AfricaEd A1.2 These relationships matter because ss are very different in and out of the classrooms. As humans, we do sometimes form biased impressions based on one singular context, and fresh perspectives will only make us better educators.
This is an excellent #afterschool activity. Great ripple effect on learning in the classroom as well. Do you involve classroom teachers? Has anyone come forward to support the #bookclub? #AfricaEd

I've always thought that school ASA programs were underutilized. What if we intentionally designed them as programs? Address areas like financial literacy, practical life skills, entrepreneurship, etc? #AfricaEd

Yes! Yes! Yes! So much more stimulating, practical and engaging than what goes on in the classrooms (oops, I mean, some classrooms, or my classroom.) In future, I hope to work in a school where these programmes are embedded in the curriculum, and not considered #ASA. #AfricaEd

#africaed Good ideas. The challenge is getting the right expertise to lead these discussions/work and create visible outcomes. So getting people with relevant BG (even a little) helps with building perspective IMO.
