Let's see who has joined us tonight/today. Please introduce yourself, where you teach, year level and what you teach. Also tell us your favourite colour #espechat
Maddie from Michigan State University #CEP416 signing into #ESPEchat. Favorite color is purple and I am an Education Major here at the best Education School In Michigan!
A1: I use a small white board most days. I have no indoor space unless we are inside a classroom on a rainy day. When I am in classes, I sometimes have access to their big screens. #espechat
A1) For me it is big screen everyday. I create all aspects of my lessons on PowerPoint. Easy to make changes if I need to and I don't have to worry about things getting erased by outside groups #espechat
A2) Big screen. It is important to learn and improve on the platform of technology given that our world is turning that way more and more often #espechat
A1 Not even close, Big Screen. We team teach 60-90 Ss per 30 minute period. Thanks to twitter, two years of reflection, got the screen. Learning through the roof since! Visuals, engagement, differentiation, time efficiency, dramatic increased in movement the reason. #espechat
A1. My room has multiple whiteboards. I have projector but donât use as much this year. I have a Smartboard collecting dust. I wanted the room to look like a science lab. #espechat
A1) I work outdoors and don't always take my whiteboard out. I tend to use the projector more when I'm indoors using the MPR room a few weeks a year. #espechat
Q1. I been using whiteboard more because my projectors wires are a hazard... but... a WIRELESS projector is on its way!! #espechat excited to have it be portable on the go!! STAPLES HURRY UP!
I got to use my MPR for 4 straight weeks this year to complete my balance, tumbling, gymnastics activities. I really didn't want to go back outside this week. #espechat
Which did you get Gustave? I bought one earlier this year for when I need to pull my class out into the hallway quick for more focused instruction since we have multiple classes simultaneously scheduled in the gym #espechat
I have one iPad that I use as a station at times. #espechat. I also have up to 4 classes going at once. I need to work on getting more creative with involving tech!
When outside whiteboard, in the winter I do a ton on my smartboard in my classroom floors are covered in mats so great spot for balance &fitness if class isnât too big student wise. Big screen at least for now needs a projector on a cart which eats up space. #espechat
Tbh, I do not recall! I ordered it.. they tried to work around it and they ordered thd SAME one I have with wires haha So they sent it back and now I am waiting.. let me check my email sent ! Hold plz #espechat
Ross, whats the title and description of your mobile projector? I've been trying to push our APE teacher/pta to acquire one since taping APE is usually in multiple rooms. #espechat
Looking for pre-made Plickers questions? I've been using these questions related to force when striking an object with a long implement. Download for FREE here: https://t.co/7sjJsxrTuA#physed#espechat
A2) I used to project Polar GoFit onto the wall. Now we use IHT HRMs. It doesn't work that way anymore. Kids liked it. Now I'm not sure it was best practice. #espechat
Q2 I project my daily agenda and any links to videos etc. using Apple TV and iPad. Looking for an easier format to create a lesson plan outline. Currently use OneNote #espechat
A2 I love to use it for Warm up videos, some GoNoodle activities, and this year...
Fitstep Pro Pedometer upload. Kids are able to see their activity levels and I am getting some terrific data!! Woo Hoo!!#Espechat
Not my whiteboard on this day in the picture on the left because it was being used by all the #plagnets on the right, but it normally has the what, why, how. See what I mean, I need a panorama board! #espechat
A2: projected movement gifs to have Sâs work on non locomotor movements &connect to dance, Balance it App for partner balance exploration. smart board 2 show how to use IPads in the lesson. Use @gonoodle 4 instant activity. @CosmicKidsYoga Project BAM video delay feed #espechat
A2 using the big screen, I love PowerPoint. Posting directions to the activity, our what why and how before hand. Embedding videos of the skill. Using some awesome GIF provided by some awesome people. #espechat
Q2 - whiteboard magnetic? I printed out the GLOs for each grade and hang it up on the board for the students to see what the goal is for the day.. (hope they look and pay attention when I reference it haha) idea from @pe4everykid#espechat. Also drawings!!
I just want to mention that I think itâs SO cool that so many of you HAVE projectors and CAN use them. It wasnât that long ago that few PE teachers could say the same. Lots of progress!! #espechat
We often use the Big screen to review. Recently my class played Kahoot which was a great review session for an exam and each student was able to play on their own technology platform. Awesome website Great for Review!#CEP416#espechat
I amazed students at my school when I created my first series of PPT. I might have been the only one teaching with PPT at the time. Now, not so much. #espechat
I have a different white board for each grade level. Not quite a convenient, but still gets the job done so I don't have to erase and re-write between classes! #espechat
A3 with the big screen, it allows students to 'drive' the lesson and less teacher focus. Allowing me to become the students and support my 'peers' #Espechat
A3: My Ss say the appreciate being able to know what to expect as soon as they come to class. The self assessment has been a game changer for me! #espechat
when I've been asked for examples of "text" in my class, I specifically cite anchor charts and whiteboard instructions. they are referring to that text for reference! #espechat
A3 - our lesson creations/displays on the projector allow for instant activity that is controlled and purposeful when Ss enter gym. Big time when classroom teachers are late dropping off, too.
#espechat
A3. Whiteboard, IPADs and functional tools can help guide student understanding and learning. The goal is to make sure screens donât become a crutch and lead to poor teaching. #espechat
A3: using the board breaks up instruction &allows me out from sage on the stage. The kids respond well to the change, it also can free me up to provide instruction. used Bam video delay during tumbling and Sâs loved self analysis and responded by improving performance #espechat
A3) For older Ss, feedback collected via Plickers and Plagnets based on Qs shown on screen 5th graders also use HRMs so their biofeedback is displayed to adjust movement intensities https://t.co/HyuhI4fr1G#espechat
Yes, but they are small ones. My set-up/take-down is insane! I am hoping to be able to have input into the master schedule for next year to make it a little easier! #espechat
A3 Ss begin to understand whatâs expected of them that day, what it is theyâre learning, the reason behind it and what they need to get there which is where #plagnets came into play on this particular lesson. What did they think theyâre baseline dribbling skills were #espechat
So efficient and honestly hip to our young students worlds. I try to mix up funny/comical GIFs of the Ss and/or my family to really connect with my Ss. They eat it up, and strengthen our relationships. #espechat
Especially when you show a proper skill form & an improper. They can decode, decipher, & then break down whatâs right and wrong. Helps visual and kinesthetic learners #espechat
I use Google Classrooms to send some links (GIFs challenges) home to my students to prepare them for the next session - this is one of them https://t.co/aXbzW9SZcF - sharing the teaching cues #espechat
I keep trying to get our schedule changed. Do not like teaching 7th grade during lunch. #espechat I also hate taking a ton of stuff out. I need a cart the size of a semi to get everything I want in one trip.
I don't have photos, but it looks a lot like what @rich_wiles has with levels, and the success criteria for each level is written on the whiteboard. I use magnets w S #s on them. #espechat
A3 - Assessment tool implementation is a big next step for us with the screen and our curriculum. So desperately need to take this step, but don't want to do it in a work/energy sensitive time. #espechat
Phone call delayed me! Q3 - yes students come to me when they succeed and are eager to show me that they can do that GLO. #espechat. They hold themselves accountable
Schedules kill me not always about whatâs best for the kids! My 2-3 classes are my biggest and during lunch! My classroom is a tight fit trying to get it changed. #espechat

A3 Whiteboards can be a huge help, especially since you can set them up before class, you never know how class is going to go but you can always be as prepared as possible. #espechat
Absolutely. I wish more of my Ss would take ownership of knowing they can learn more by taking a look than guessing or doing their own thing - the struggle is real #espechat
We have construction going on this year also, They took away a bunch of our space for #physed. Making it even more interesting. #espechat I feel your pain!

#espechat I am older than dirt and back in the day I demonstrated everything. High Jump 6th class period, Ss asked me to do it again. Ooops herniated a disk on that 7th demo and needed back surgery. Where were those gifs back when I needed them? How about big screens?
Q4 - Timers are awesome for kids to see how much time is left for example during stations.. #tabata works awesome for kids to push themselves as they see and know ârestâ is coming up.. also @PhysEdDepot makes awesome self progressions you can pop up on the wall ! #espechat
I remember those days! Realized that, early on, I couldn't do everything perfectly. Started recruiting students to help after the first few years. #espechat Gifs can allow you to bring in professional examples easily.

My first year teaching I did step aerobics with all of my classes for two days. The third day I put away the steps and never got them back out again. My legs almost fell off. #espechat

A4: when I have access to a big screen, my younger Ss use Cosmic Kids Yoga, GoNoodle. Older Ss use things I make like projecting a hand out with the document camera. #espechat
A4 - Google Slides and Youtube, currently. Google Slides is super versatile and we love it. Would loooooove to learn more programs to utilize. Interested in ClassroomScreen... is that the right name? #espechat
Also have supposedly water proof and snow proof cases that I am going to test when we cross country ski. Going to make gifs to help independent students improve cross country skiing skills and have iPads in spots around our ski trail. #espechat

A4) Don't connect my iPad too much to my projector actually, but in the past I've used Decide Now, Make Dice among others. @HeartTechPlus1 app for heart rate display #espechat
Agreed! In case others are interested in getting started w/ creating your own GIFs from YouTube videos, hereâs a great start: https://t.co/YexPUiG8gB. #espechat

Ever wanted to create a Slow Motion Animated GIF from a YouTube video on a particular skill? In about 5 minutes, you can learn how, here: https://t.co/r9luEjwAv0 Super easy and fast, even if you're new to GIFs. Great for #physed classrooms and super powerful for coaching too!
A4. This year I seem to be using an old set of IPADs the most without screen. I enjoy the screen just not the wires. #espechat I use G-Suite the most and Polar GoFit app. Also the simple video controls.
Q4 - Timers are awesome for kids to see how much time is left for example during stations.. #tabata works awesome for kids to push themselves as they see and know ârestâ is coming up.. also @PhysEdDepot makes awesome self progressions you can pop up on the wall ! #espechat
A4 Hmm I would love to use seconds pro for stations (I know thereâs audio tracks with cues, it would just be nice to see), Virtuali-tee app, plickers projection for surveying/voting questions, YouTube for anticipatory sets and google slides! #espechat
Q5 - What do you use or do if you donât have access to either of them? How do you ensure your Ss are aware of their focus, learning intention and success criteria? #espechat
I have a lot to do, leaving early. Sorry everyone. Keep making a difference. âDo not give half an effort unless you are ohkay with half the resultsâ #espechat#shifthis#5thchat
I routinely tell the students the grade level outcome we are working on. I find that if they know what we are working on, they will have something to focus on. I often tell them the grade below or above them too so they know the progressions. #espechat
A5: I start every class review the why, what, how. If I don't have it written down, I make sure to bring it up verbally in discussion or comments often to bring it to the fore front of the mind. #espechat
a5 If I didn't have them, I would use paper and markers. I have to have some sort of reference for students. also helpful to use students to demonstrate to "mix it up" instead of me over and over #espechat
A5. Verbal instructions that are simple and explain the concept. Use equipment and visual demonstrations too. Go old school. The best GIF is the teacher who created the GIF #espechat
A5 - Our instructional strategies/lessons are altered to adjust to no screen. Not a lot, but enough to try get the same maximum outcome if the screen was in use. We mix in days without it to keep Ss focus on the actual teacher their jobs when entering gym, too. #espechat
Usually state the lesson objectives in a clear & humourous manner. I know I was teaching FITT/fitness testing to my â âs when I was asked why we were doing it & I replied, âSo I donât live longer than any of you.â #espechat
Q5 No joke, sometimes I need whiteboards galore but donât have them available so chalk on the blacktop has come pretty handy many a times!! #espechat
A5: My district and a lot of others have an educational resource center that will make big posters and visuals for me. I type up what i want and they make a big laminated poster for me. #espechat
It would be amazing to get outside as much as the Cali Crew gets too! Us Minnesotans keep tallies on how many days our Ss got outside for PE each year. The changing of the seasons are pretty cool though ;) #espechat
Final Q for the night/day!
Q6 - You have one choice, you either use ONLY a whiteboard or ONLY big screen, which one would you choose? Sorry guys you can't have both :) #espechat
A5: I go over the what why how verbally, but love to allow other styles of learners to access them whenever. I need my boards though lol thatâs why I built this #espechat
Big scrren! It makes it easier for teaching and following along. Also whatever is being shown on the big screen can be sent out to parents so they can see what we are doing. Also, technology skills are being learned! #espechat
We collect winter gear as loaner gear and for my Sâs who cannot afford snow pants etc. that way access is never denied and students donât miss out. #espechat
In reply to
@dfeister, @PhysEdApps, @EPEWCP, @MrSpringPE, @AssessLinkPE, @iOgrapher
Q6) Only big screen because it would be more appealing to all students & be easier to teach because I wouldnât have to go between two different boards. #espechat
When weâre inside we are usually in a small room, not fun as a pack of sardines! However we love the 4 walls when it comes to posting stuff + projector! Pros and cons haha #espechat
A6) Big scrren! It makes it easier for teaching and following along. Also whatever is being shown on the big screen can be sent out to parents so they can see what we are doing. Also, technology skills are being learned! #espechat#espechat
A6 I feel like itâs cheating to say smartboard (big screen you can draw on!!) it is so hard to choose because I do randomly think of things to draw on my whiteboard ALL THE TIME. But I love gifs too much. Big screen for me. #espechat
A6 Hands Down Big SCREEN because I shared my Gym with the YMCA afterschool program If i used a white board all my work would be gone the next day #PETeacherProblems#WhoseClassroom#ESPEChat
#espechat A6 White board because I always have access to it. Sometimes I cannot use the big screen due to displacement, shared space, no access to big screen equipment due to space complications.
