Welcome to another great night of culture talk with #GAHSFBCHAT coaches.
In the spirit of the beginning of evaluation period for College Coaches, tonight we will begin a 2 part discussion on: The Recruiting Process.
Let's begin with Intros. Who's in the house tonight?
As usual, we will use our normal Q1:A1 format.
Be sure to use #GAHSFBCHAT in each of your post.
Also be sure to follow each of your fellow coaches to increase your coaching network.
#Culture4Coaches
A1: Yes and No. We have a âpoint manâ but our HC is very envolved and every assistant helps when needed. When you have coaches come through at all times of the school day, everyone has to be ready to help! #GAHSFBCHAT
A1: Yes and No. We have a âpoint manâ but our HC is very envolved and every assistant helps when needed. When you have coaches come through at all times of the school day, everyone has to be ready to help! #GAHSFBCHAT
A2: have to do a better job with this department. Need to start having "Recruitment Sessions" for parents and players in a more formal setting.
#GAHSFBCHAT
A2: Did an info meeting this year with parents for the first time. Very good stuff. We try to constantly educate the kids. So much ânoiseâ they have to filter through itâs CRAZY. #GAHSFBCHAT
Yes, Iâve served in that capacity in the past, as well as DC, tech guy , Strength Coach with 4 FB player classes. Tough job, loved it though.
Duties, compiling prospect sheets, core GPA, transcript , MAKE HL film and in order, communicate with coaches #GAHSFBCHAT
A1: Yes, The GOAT @CoachSkelton06 because as a HC you can't do it all.
He is in charge of all things recruiting.
Setting up off season visits, calling coaches, etc.. Every school needs one
#GAHSFBCHAT
Have a recruiting PPT that helps parents understand the process and letâs them see it from college coaches POV. It has been beneficial, opened up comm between parents and myself. Some parents, who probably missed that meeting, however still have #D1Dreams for Johnny #GAHSFBCHAT
A3: Hudl, Twitter, emails with contacts. Try to keep an updated list but itâs hard with all the turnover. Also use @RecruitGeorgia and guys who are about the kids in recruiting to help. #GAHSFBCHAT
Social media for indy and team honors. Donât post HUDL links on social media. Ask yourself have you ever clicked on that link to watch another kids film? No. Only will email and DM Hudl film. #GAHSFBCHAT
Hudl, social media, college visits, camps, weightroom videos, 7 on 7 on college campuses, email, phone calls, text messages, recruiting fairs, sharing Prospect Sheet with other HS Coaches that I trust to share with coaches that come thru. #GAHSFBCHAT
#GAHSFBCHAT I am an Asst coach currently. However as a head coach for 24 years I think an Asst coach to send emails, film, player profiles, locate camps/dates, etc is a great asset. The head coach should be active in recruiting as well
A2: I hosted an NCAA Eligibility Info Session my first year, and we will be hosting another session this upcoming May. That helps with general information on eligibility. #GAHSFBCHAT
#GAHSFBCHAT
A2 I think a mandatory player/parent meeting to cover âeverythingâ?recruiting is a must in todayâs game. Provide information and education. Tell them how the process works. How you (the coach) fits in the process as well as what the parent and player need to do
A4: We follow each of our players to monitor their social media presence. We also have frequent conversations about social media etiquette.
#GAHSFBCHAT
A2: cont. However, parents and players still do not understand the process. Too many think that if they âstartâ or are a âseniorâ, that they should be recruited. Also, noise from outside folks is a major issue. I have to provide all information for parents & players. #GAHSFBCHAT
Part of recruiting PPT, but we educate the athletes and parents about these coaches are invested well over 100K on you. Donât post anything that would make them think twice about offering that #GAHSFBCHAT
#GAHSFBCHAT A3 emails, phone calls. You canât just blindly send film. You need a network to help you get the film in front of the decision makers. The biggest thing is to do your best to get 2-3 evaluations from college coaches on âwhatâ the kid is. 1 of 2
A3: HUDL is an essential tool for everything. Twitter has been huge for our program. It shows everyone in and outside of the program how we are promoting our players. Easy to show administrators what we are doing as well. #GAHSFBCHAT
Canât please everyone, but try to be upfront and set a reality check. Burnt is very positive IMO. BUT DO NOT LET IT DEFINE YOUR PROGRAM! That will not sustain your culture of selflessness #GAHSFBCHAT
A3: cont. I also use @FieldLevel, and the services of @NPCoachZim@JasonPugheXOS to help promote our players. These are all FREE, and they all do a great job in helping in promoting our players. #GAHSFBCHAT
Doâs and donâts are reviewed in the recruiting meeting. All players and coaches on staff follow each other for monitoring. Retweeting of college coaches and their expectations and experiences with other recruits and social media. #gahsfbchat
A4: I donât think our parents and players understand how important it is to use social media. Twitter is the best, and easiest way to communicate with coaches and schools that players may be interested in. #GAHSFBCHAT
Great one. Encountered that a few times. I would be honest with the kid , that I am gonna start keeping it đŻ with coaches and being honest. I canât sacrifice my reputation Iâve built. Done it before, will probably have to do it again #GAHSFBCHAT
A5: Positive in that it promotes the many successes of our program, and the hard work of our players who have earned the right to be recruited. Negative in that it creates envy when certain players arenât being recruited. #GAHSFBCHAT
A6: That starts BEFORE they are star players. Culture has to win. Never sacrifice culture for talent. Educate them, peer pressure helps if others are unselfish. Hopefully it doesnât get to the point of pulling playing time. #GAHSFBCHAT
#GAHSFBCHAT Q4 keep it clean, proper and professional. Put all vital info on your profile. Post, tweet hudl links directly @ a coach. Do not over do it!
A6: It comes down to respect from his teammates. I had the privilege of coaching a big time prospect early in my career, and the player had committed before his senior season so his recruitment wasnât a distraction at all. #GAHSFBCHAT
#GAHSFBCHAT Q5 Double edge sword man. Anybody that has ever been involved as a HS coach in recruiting knows what I am saying. I have had great experiences and I have experienced the other side as well. Being honest!
A1: I have been the Recruting Coordinator at the last 2 schools that I coached at. My 1st school, recruiting was divided amongst position coaches. We had prospects at every position, so we were all involved. Great for our kids and coaches! #GAHSFBCHAT
A7: Been fortunate in this area at South. Most know. But honesty wins out. If they have trouble seeing it, BE HONEST and tell them the truth. #GAHSFBCHAT
A7: I feel this is unavoidable. âYou messed up my recruitingâ. No, your grades and talent did. Or, if you promote a kid and they get an offer, it is an offer that they donât âwantâ. Itâs difficult, but I FINALLY realized that some folks will never be happy! #GAHSFBCHAT
Sometimes you have to have uncomfortable conversations. Evaluate film with them, show them the roster of attributes of kids at the same position at whatever level. At the end of the day help them understand that I do have their childâs best interest in mind. #GAHSFBCHAT
#gahsfbchat A7 Continue to be honest, unemotional, and totally technical with them. I will put them on the phone w coaches and show them written evaluations from college coaches. We all know nothing will make them happy. 1 of 2
Show them a print out of the average FBS signee. And just keep reassuring them you are for the kid, which if you arenât, in the wrong job #GAHSFBCHAT
Get out and try to network with coaches. Be adamant that your kids attend the right caliber camps. Not the MEGA camps. Waste of money. Like the one at LaGrange #gahsfbchat
#gahsfbchat A7 2 of 2 it will be all my fault when their 5'11 180 4.9 son gets no offers and their 6'0" 200 lb 4.7 kid gets a D2 off instead of an off from an SEC school. I don't make offers. I get his film in front of as man decision makers as I can/get him to camps
