Welcome 2 #HipHopEd tonight we are discussing and creating strategies to address "summer learning loss" for students and teachers
  • tdj6899 - Moderator Jun 12 @ 9:02 PM EDT
Summer Learning Loss is a phenomenon that historically focuses on the students but we wanted to expand this reality and look at how teachers may suffer from summer learning loss as well #HipHopEd
  • raptjr Jun 12 @ 9:02 PM EDT
#HipHopEd How do we use #HipHopEd to invest in #SummerLearningExcellence ???
  • DrTimony Jun 12 @ 9:03 PM EDT
Summer is too often viewed as a downgrade. Why not an upgrade? Some things forgotten, or maybe improved. I look at notes from a year or two ago and think “who wrote that?!” #hiphoped
  • tdj6899 - Moderator Jun 12 @ 9:04 PM EDT
As someone who specializes in out-of-school time learning, we've had to address summer learning loss as an indicator of our proposed program's effectiveness #hiphoped

  • DrTimony Jun 12 @ 9:08 PM EDT
What are the authentically sustaining themes that we can carry through the summer and expect them to develop? In classical and jazz world, we knew what artists were working on and what would hit in coming months. I spoke to @ImmortalTech and he’s in the lab. Who else? #hiphoped
  • DocChrisWright Jun 12 @ 9:08 PM EDT

@DrScottWeiland When it comes to violence, I feel that the listeners see that it is okay to be violent because the artist was violent, but in reality, some artists get a big head and think they are "big stuff" and can do what they want. Some listeners do not see the line between

Educators, use the summer as a chance to flip the script. Speak to young people about what they enjoy. Add some of those ideas to your pedagogy in the fall. Respecting youth culture is essential to #hiphoped - the summer is the perfect time to dive in.
