#langchat Archive

#LangChat is dedicated to the discussion of topics associated with issues and trends in world language instruction and learning. Educators, administrators, learners, and aficionados of world languages are encouraged to participate and share their experiences and input on various topics such as new ways to teach vocabulary, using music in the language classroom, and making standards-based grading valid. This chat is also unique in that it brings together language educators worldwide and from different contexts (elementary, secondary, higher education, etc.) and languages.

  • angardner06 May 4 @ 8:18 PM EDT
#langchat A2: Ask ?s about their successes and listen to the responses. There's reasons why Ts do what they do.
  • madameparkinson May 4 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A1: Sometimes finding common ground can be as simple as taking the time to be present and really listen during a conversation. #langchat
  • CoLeeSensei - Moderator May 4 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2 I think the most important thing is to realize that there shouldn't be a 'i'm right' position - it's an inquiry into practice #langchat
  • William_Caze May 4 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2 Listen. Listen. Listen. Because, cycle back to Q1, you're looking for common ground. Build on it. #langchat
  • profelopez716 May 4 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2: ALWAYS start with positive. And approach issues with a "we" in mind. Creates better team environment and focuses on ss #langchat
  • nathanlutz May 4 @ 8:19 PM EDT
#langchat A2: million dollar question! We need to start w/ that common goal from Q1 - and keep going back to it.
  • CoLeeSensei - Moderator May 4 @ 8:19 PM EDT
My failing is not to listen as much as I try to share...will do better..listening opens up to talking! #langchat

  • MmeFarab May 4 @ 8:19 PM EDT

  • MlleSulewski May 4 @ 8:19 PM EDT

A2 I will admit to not handling these situations gracefully, particularly when feeling attacked. Teaching is so personal! #langchat
  • CoLeeSensei - Moderator May 4 @ 8:20 PM EDT
Q2 -After we est. the common how do we move forward from that 'common' spot? #langchat
  • MmeFarab May 4 @ 8:20 PM EDT
A2 A respectful way to start a convo is to share a positive thing or a win in your class - ask if they'd like to try it, too! #langchat
  • welangley May 4 @ 8:20 PM EDT
A2 Start by discussing the groups goals. Find out where differences lie after. #langchat
  • lizettebarona18 May 4 @ 8:20 PM EDT
A2: everyone has a background which affects their teaching methods. Listening to that and then giving your take on it. #langchat
  • mafarrace May 4 @ 8:21 PM EDT
