Q1. #BeTheOne For Kids is filled with ideas and things that make me love my job. What gets you excited about going to work at school every day? #3rdchat
A1 I really love hanging out with kids. I get to play all day long. I live for the lightbulb, the ah-ha moment that makes students feel inspired and empowered to keep on pushing, keep on making connections, keep on digging deeper. Schools are fun places to be! #3rdchat

1) Trying something new, learning with my kids, something exciting happening in my room, MY KIDS. The number of times I've posted #ilovemyjob this year as a caption on IG- for real. #3rdchat

A1 Seeing progress in students and families receiving the kinds of care and service that they need to be successful is slow and grueling but keeps me coming back. Also, the smiling faces of kids every morning. Can’t beat it. #3rdchat
A1 I love what I do!! Being with my class, learning together, seeing the students take risks, be leaders, problem solve together...I just love it!! #3rdchat
A1. Trying new things and growing my practice. Hearing insights from Ss. Collaborating w Ss and Ts. Most of all seeing those lovely little faces every morning. #3rdchat#betheone

A1 I have my plan book ready from the night before and I am excited to see the lessons come to life and likely change based on the students’ ideas. Example: Today my read aloud response choice list expanded based on student ideas. #3rdchat
A1: It's the people and kids I get to work with. I love coming up with fun ways to engage with the students, so my brain never shuts off as I am always trying to do what I can to put a smile on a students face #3rdchat
A2 With perimeter, area, and volume this week. We used our classroom, so many things to measure. S's think they are brilliant when they discover the carpet squares and floor/ceiling tiles.I think the textbook is better for reinforcement or as an additional resource. #3rdchat
A2 Interesting question. I have not used a text book in 13 years. I teach from found articles and artifacts, primary sources, and teachable skills moments. #3rdchat
2) Today! Lots of our textbooks are outdated.. so I use them for guidance, but pull from other areas for what we are learning. We are learning about life cycles, so we have live mealworms and butterflies in our room. Real life is way better than a text book. #3rdchat
New study from Harvard about people living the longest. People with connections and relationships, live longer/happier lives. All about the connections. #3rdchat
A2. I work with teachers all the time to develop a lesson using their creativity. Education allows teachers the creativity to be innovative with lesson design and Ss love those lessons and gain a deeper level of knowledge. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A2: Pretty much all of math. Our adopted resource does not follow a solid concrete, representational, abstract format. Area and perimeter was hands on. (How much paint would I need to repaint a table in our classroom. How much border for a bulletin board, etc... #3rdchat
A2 I see teachers creating elaborate mysteries for kids to solve to teach inferring, teaching measurement/estimation with @Sphero among many other ways to engage kids without a textbook. #3rdchat
A2: I am not actually in the classroom, but I love to find creative ways to work with my students, mystery reader (in disguise) rapping to Vanilla Ice to motivate students on the state assessment, creating @Flipgrid opportunity for my students to share their uniqueness #3rdchat
I often give a choice of any strategy (visualization, connections, summarizing, analyzing ...) Many kids chose visualizing today. I was not expecting them to design their own corn mazes. We readThump, Quack, Moo by Doreen Cronin for a little bit of fun today. #3rdchat
A1: Just thinking about new opportunities, activities and connections that I can make with my kids every single day get me excited but going to work every single day. #BeTheOne#3rdchat
A2 Many times this year. So many rich articles, real world opportunities for students to engage in and learn from! Love collaborative projects! #3rdchat
A2: I'm doing poetry now (couldn't make it work in April with state testing) and I'm not using the writing curriculum textbook. The kids are much more invested and engaged! #3rdchat
A2: we are using scholastic book club flyers and incorporating math, reading and writing lessons. Kids came up with the ideas! Math Ex. Kids have x amount of money. What combinations of books can you order? #3rdchat
A2. Taught in a SBS in AK. We had no textbooks. Learned more in those 4 yrs than any class/textbook could ever teach me. Even now, with district texts, I rarely teach from them. Most are retrieval level. Ss have google for that. They need us for the real chew. #3rdchat
A2: No text book in PE which leaves so many opportunities to collaborate with my PLN and my students! Love their ideas and additions to our activities! #3rdchat

A2: I don't usually use a text book. We were state testing today, but then we played a Kahoot I made up about everyone in our class. The kids loved when the question was about them. #3rdchats
A3 I have learned that if I stay true to my methods of engaging learners and partnering with them in the love of learning, my "data' can still be the best in the building. #3rdchat
A3 That I have a lot to learn! I have tried many new things this year and stepped outside of my comfort zone. In doing so, I have made many mistakes. I have to do what I tell my kids to do - try everything and if it doesn't work, try again. #3rdchat
This week we've been writing "important poems" based on "The Important Book" by Margaret Wise Brown. We started with "The important thing about me is..."then moved to poems about items. Yesterday they did poems about their moms as part of a mother's day present #3rdchat
A3: I have lots of areas at which I need to improve. I also need to step up and voice my opinion more. I tend to keep quiet in certain situations. #3rdchat

A3: That I am braver than I think. I have developed confidence with twitter, FB, taking chances with ideas... I have more confidence to speak up and I’m not afraid to try new things. #3rdchat
3) Change is good for the soul. Before this, I taught middle school and loved it. Now, I'm surprising myself and thriving in third. Mixing it up is a good thing! #3rdchat
A2: last time I thought a concept without using textbook was when I taught adding and subtracting decimals to my students using a Scholastic Magazine flyer. #3rdchat
I have learned to always voice my thinking if I feel it is what's best for students, that I am capable of stepping out of my comfort zone, and to be silly, the kids LOVE to see us doing things like them. #3rdchat
A2 To be honest: The text for Social Studies is used for research for pick a project time. The math text is used with teacher lead small group meeting on specific concepts when needed. I almost always use my own plans based on curriculum . #3rdchat
A3: I learned that going slow helps you go fast. I had to circle back and slow down at several points in the year. In the end, I still go the same amount accomplished, but I was able to ensure students were mastering rather than just focusing on "covering" material. #3rdchat
A2: I probably shouldn't say this, but I quite often use textbooks as resources - not necessarily the tool that "teaches" the concept or strategy. #3rdchat
A2: I probably shouldn't say this, but I quite often use textbooks as resources - not necessarily the tool that "teaches" the concept or strategy. #3rdchat
A3: I have learned that I can offer a lot more support to my students and to my colleagues. I have learned to be fearless and try new things, and let go of control, and provide opportunities for students to voice their honest opinions. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A3: I keep learning that what can see like a small thing to us like giving a student a compliment or a smile can make a huge difference. It doesn't cost but a moment to make a student's day. #3rdchat
A4 I think I am good at building relationships. My students know that I love them. Because of this I can push them hard, explore some tough topics, and trust them to do the right thing. We have a great classroom culture. #3rdchat
4) That I care for my students. Really, truly... I want them to accomplish all they they can, and I want to help them if possible. Not so that I can have my name in lights, but because they all deserve to know what they are capable of. #3rdchat
A3 That I have a voice and that my passion for this profession is worthy of being shared! For so long I only shared my ideas with those physically around me, and people have always said that I need to share, speak, lead PD etc and I wondered who cared #3rdchat
A4: Building relationships with my
students is something I continue to build throughout the year. Giving my students a voice in our classroom. I also try to integrate technology as much as possible! "I love technology!" #3rdchat

A4. The ability to build relationships and connect with students. Once you create the relationships, Ss are much more willing to learn. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A3 I have learned that my teaching world will not fall apart if I say "no"or "it can wait until tomorrow." I know I do much a lot of the time. Giving myself a chance to breathe now & then has been refreshing. Think I'll keep it up. #3rdchat
A3: I would say my strongest teaching quality is adaptability and flexibility. I say "yes" to every opportunity that comes my way and helps me grow as a teacher leader and an advocate for my students. #3rdchat#BeTheOne

A4: Jaime Escalante said, “The students will rise to the level of expectation we have for them.” I recognize and hold high their greatness. I believe this is my greatest quality for students. Not just belief. I KNOW they can. Then I help them prove it. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A5 Mr. Strunk. My 7th grade Bio Teacher. He cared. He wanted me to succeed and taught me to be the best student that I can be. I felt valued as a person. #3rdchat
A5 Dr. Ron Reed made me believe that my voice was important and what I had to say had value. He encouraged me to speak, listened, and and also encouraged me to continue to grow. He saw leadership potential in me when I didn't know I had any. He was my first #eduhero#3rdchat
That I understand that every child who walks through my door has their own story they are living, it is my job to listen, empathize, connect and guide. #3rdchat
Yes...we're getting ready for the state assessment and I tell my Ss that I understand that it's going to be difficult, but that I do know that they can do it. #3rdchat
A4 I think blending curriculums together to create overarching themes and lessons is my strength. (Then taking those plans and going with student input is step two) We often work on two or more subjects at a time. Social/LA. Religion/Health. STEAM projects. #3rdchat
A5: My kindergarten teacher. She helped me love learning. I even told her when I was in her class that I was going to be a teacher and I would take over for her when she retired. But she retired before I was ready to do that! #3rdchat
A5: Ms. Harvey, 3rd grade teacher! She was the one that inspired me to be a teacher. She was the one that I looked to for my first year of teaching 3rd grade. That year, I got teacher of the year. She is my ONE! #3rdchat
A5: My mom. She taught PE to my school (and four others across the district). She was incredible then, and later as a mentor in her own 4th gr. classroom. I owe much of my practice and my lifelong learning to her. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A5 My HS Band Director who came in my senior year, Mr. Jacobus. I was/am still a shy introvert at heart. He offered me choices & encouraged me when I was struggling. So lucky to call him a colleague these days--even had him clinic my kids/visit last year. #grateful#3rdchat
A6 I have an incredible team. We complement and hold each other up when things are tough. I also know faculty in other grade levels and divisions that can offer a different perspective. I surround myself with people who will challenge and support me. We all need that. #3rdchat
A6. I think of my Ss as my own kids and I would never want someone to quit on my kids. It keeps me pushing to do better and striving for excellence. #BeTheOne#3rdchat
A6 I signed up for all of the times, not just the good times. I know that my students are worth the struggle and I refuse to ever give up on them! #3rdchat

A6. Luckily I work at a school, and with a staff, that never quits. That’s why I work there! They inspire me every day with their dedications to Ss and the community. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
You and I have similar challenges. I managed to do it for 4.3 seconds the other day and then I got all off beat. I think we need to have a dance off. #3rdchat

I’m felt this recently in my school. But I consciously turned it around, positive self talk, support from twitter #PLN & took action by sending out a SM message to do a GHO math class connection #3rdchat#betheone
A6: My curiousity keeps me going. There is always something new to learn, another way to connect, another books to read, another student that's waiting for his/her voice to be heard. I want to hear what they have to say. #3rdchat
A6: Loving what I do makes me want to get up and do what I do each and everyday. I love knowing I get the chance to "influence" their environment, predicability, relationship, and help them remain focused on learning even when it may seem impossible #3rdchat
Hello #3rdchat peeps! Next week, we will be having a Show and Tell session as we share some of the ups and downs from our school year. We hope you join us!
A6 What keeps me going? A few things: 1. My ‘WHY.’ - love of kids and love of learning. 2. Seeing where my weekly plans will go ...AND scheduling my week so that I WANT to see where they will go. 3. Also, my COWORKERS are so fabulously supportive! #3rdchat
A4 RELATIONSHIPS are my jam! I can name at least 500 of the 600 kids in my school and every student I ever taught! Knowing names makes a difference! I know their families, passions, activities, pets names, etc #3rdchathttps://t.co/4Rzof6jRQk
A7 It is about having real conversations and allowing peers to reflect on their needs. By inspiring through success with an invitation to watch and learn...we all grow. #3rdchat
A7. I try to model the behavior wanted. I look for opportunitites to have intentional conversations with colleagues and look for ways to help in their learning. #3rdchat#BeTheOne
A7 I think we have to be honest and talk about our successes and challenges. Share with each other- the wins and failures. Grow together and most importantly have fun! Your attitude can change the tide! #3rdchat
