A1 I want to find a way to get out of my comfort zone or make a dream come true and document the progress with my Ss. Ill challenge them to do the same. #tlap
A1: I have students write their goals for each section that makes up a pixel art creation. They are reminded of their goals and where they need and want to go. #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
I share my goals for earning my Master's degree with my students and my goal of earning my Google certified educator level 2 by the end of the school year. #TLAP
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
Got to get those college visits in! We did a summer adventure two summers ago! Did a week long camp with a grant and took kiddos all over the state! Did all sorts of cultural experiences including 5 colleges! It was awesome! I love being an AVID teacher! #tlap#AVIDRocks
A1 We can describe to our students what makes school meaningful to us and help them clarify their values so they can choose to make school meaningful for themselves. #tlap
A1: We must model for our students what we expect from them. They need to see & hear us setting goals, reflecting, readjusting and celebrating. They need to see it as a process that helpa is grow to be better than we were before. #tlap
A1: Be Vulnurable. Share your goals, dreams, sucesses, and failures! We create bucket lists (#EduGIFs style, of course), and update and reflect on them throughout the year! They also make great writing prompt topics! 💪☠️✨ #TLAP#EduNinja
A1) RELATIONSHIPS!!! Sharing my own stories of FAILURES as well as successes will hopefully inspire Ss and make me seem more human and empower students to try and not be afraid! #tlap
A1: Share your goals from outside the classroom. Have your Ss keep you accountable! Encourage them to create their own and allow them to pick an accountability partner they're comfortable with! #tlap
A1: Starting a secondary tech team so I will be working with students on setting goals for long term learning. Plan to share my process to get to this point with students so they see not all goals can be done in a day. #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
Sean here from NC, Principal and my favorite summer fitness activity is escaping to the beach with my workout mix tapes! #CelebrateMonday and Celebrate the #EduNinja! Proud of my friend and her new book! #eduninjamindset#tlap
A1: Start by creating class goals! Find a common thing to work for and acknowledge all bumps and successes. Share my own goals and then encourage students to share their own! #tlap
A1. Every day we have the opportunity to model our successes and failures. I encourage students to be part of my goal setting, so they can keep me accountable and I them. Bring the Ss into the conversation and awesome things can happen. #tlap
A1 Go in feet first and get out of your comfort zone! Inspire and motivate others to do the same! Do something fun with students so they remember those elements (life long learning is key). #tlap
A1: Instead of meeting with Ts in August, I'm chatting with them now so we can create a path of continuance for all the awesome things they've done this year! We want to hit the ground running come September! #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
A1: Each individual, Ss and each staff member in the classroom, sets a daily goal. They share this goal and strategies they can use to reach this goal during our morning meeting. We also reflect on our goal at the end of the day. #tlap
A1 I am starting my Masters this Fall, and I could definitely share with them why I'm doing and how I'm accomplishing both that and teaching at the same time! Lots of long and short term goals there. Let them in on the journey. #tlap
Hi Everyone James from KY hoping in for a bit. I teach social studies through pop culture and comics. I also work as an Education Coordinator for @hpcomics_#tlap
#tlap Q1: share share share with your students your journey—what are YOUR goals and how are you planning to attack them. Then find out their goals and help them decide a plan
I know this sounds super corny for A1 but my Ss know I do weight watchers and they celebrate me when I lose. We talk about physical helping mental often. #TLAP
A1: Share our stories with Ss. It is important for Ss to know we set goals and have to work hard to achieve them too. Let them see us fail, get back up, and keep moving forward. #tlap
A1: I think our ss need to see us as learners. We need to tell our story and where we are in our learning journey. Things like learning new strategies, getting a degree, etc. When they see we are life-long learners they will start considering that for themselves. #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
A1: Ss and I have a talk about goals at the beginning of the year & I share my goals with them too. If I want to create lifelong learners I have to model that too. Check in throughout year see where we are at and what needs revisited. #tlap
A1: Let’s not just write goals down during the 1st week of class and never revisit them again. Be intentional: put weekly check-in activities in your class calendar 📆! #tlap
A1: I think it's important to allow s to charge in the goal setting process. They will have better buy-in as a result. Also, model being a learner yourself. What is it your learning? How are you setting goals yourself? #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
A1: I always set my own goals and share them w/ Ss since they usually involve them! This way I can reflect through the year w/ them and they can see my progress (or lack of!!) #tlap
A1: I talk with my Ss all of the time about my goals! I also ask them what goals they have! Interesting to see how many HS Ss haven't even thought of their goals. #tlap
A1) It’s about putting us out there, trying something new and letting our Ss and other educators see that. The more we goal set and try new things others will see us and do the same. #TLAP
A1: I think it is vital we walk them through our thinking as well as talk a out who we lean on or reach out for support. If we don’t know someone then modeling for them how to get support in achieving goals! #tlap
A1: it’s important to model behaviors and goal setting for the Ss. I use examples and shared with them goals for myself to become a better educator. I shared with them the books I was reading and the blog I maintain to reflect and achieve my goals. #tlap
As an RTI Facilitator, I have the goal of being more proactive rather than reactive. I have very supportive admin and we are trying some new things with intervention next year that I'm really excited about #tlap
A1: we can model great goal setting by not simply choosing an endpoint but modeling the little victories along the way @TechieTeachOtt showed me this today at #USMSpark#tlap
I think we need to model setting goals and share our process. Then it’s important to have students make goals and steps to achieving the goal. Allow time for reflection! #tlap
A1 Be an open book. Set goals. Make plans. Show students that goals change and need revision. Show failing forward in goals. Persevere through the hard ones. #tlap
A1: #tlap Shre share share your goals, plan, and journey with students. Then ask them about their goals and help decide a plan to reach them. Make they connection and keep it going all year
A1: I think it's a great idea to model setting academic goals with Ss, but also behavioral, social, or personal goals. When Ss are able to connect goal setting in lots of arenas, it tends to stick better. #tlap
A1: Set goals that are manageable and measurable but juuuuust push the boundaries of what's comfortable. Make sure students learn what success feels like. #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
A1: I'm not sure exactly how yet, but I will share w my Ss my summer writing participation in #teacherswrite2018 and I am giving my blog a BIG overhaul. #tlap
A1: Start by doing he things that people tell you can’t me done. If you set low goals there is no satisfaction in completing them, but if you set big goals, you win, even if you come up short! #tlap#RunLAP
A1. I like to dance when no one is looking, but I wanted my Ss to see it’s worth taking a risk for a good cause and to live out the growth mindset. #tlap
A1 I always explain how I have to set goals every year. I explain what they are and how I am going to achieve them before they start thinking of their goals. #tlap
A1) making planning & goal setting visible SMART goals so Ss can see the structure of it and make the transition easier for their own goal setting #tlap
A1: When I had a homeroom class, we made yearly goals, then monthly goals. We wrote them down and at the end of the month reviewed to see if we met the goals. #tlap
A1) I model everything I can for students. From how to read comics and how to do things in the classroom to how to be a better human being. I work so hard with my Ss and other Ts. #tlap
A1:Sharing educational goals that we have can allow students to see the impact that they have directly! One of my goals is to sing science to my students with my ukulele! Going to show them by playing in class and failing forward! #tlap
A1 showing my students that I am always learning. I share the journey and the failures/success. Find new apps, etc. & we learn together. Will be working on Google Certification II next year. #tlap
A1: I've been modeling importance of learning a language. We have approx. 25% ELL. I've started doing some of my in-class lessons in Spanish. Modeling growth mindset, lifelong learning, collaboration w/T's & building relationships w/T's&Ss. Love! #Tlap
A1: I think it is vital we walk them through our thinking as well as discussing who and how we reach out to others to support us! It is key to also discuss failures and how we overcome them. #tlap
A1: I've been considering using @Flipgrid to set goals with Ss & Ts, periodically check back in & set new ones...haven't worked out the specifics yet, just mulling it over. #tlap#FlipgridFever
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
A1: We model by doing. If goal setting is the focus, then Ts should have a goal, share it, and work towards it. It may be necessary to reword your goal (although not always!) but go ahead.. share it with your kiddos! #tlap
I know this sounds super corny for A1 but my Ss know I do weight watchers and they celebrate me when I lose. We talk about physical helping mental often. #TLAP
A1 When we connect with Ss, goal setting becomes much more than a task for them to complete...I share my daily goals with them and ask the same of them... #tlap
A1: Model, model, model. Turn that curriculum into a bucket list. Each new item is an adventure. Show them that committing to and accomplishing a long-term goal is one of the sweetest rewards. Teach them how to begin with the end in mind. #tlap
A1. By building relationships, we get to know our Ss. We learn by working with them 1:1 their challenges, how they solve problems. We encourage them in learning to take risks and grow! They see us modelling risks in classroom! #tlap
A1) I talk to my students about my successes and failures in my own personal life. I share with them that it is ok to make mistakes or fall short of our goals, and everyone makes mistakes, and that we can learn from them. #tlap
I agree! Ss need to see that adults aren't perfect and they can learn from failures. They know we have failures and need to see that it is ok to talk about them #tlap
A1: I think setting incremental goals benefits our students the most. What is your goal today? What is your goal this week? What is your goal this month? What are some long-term goals you have. #tlap
Hey! Megan from MO. I teach 6-8 science, 6 reading, and K-8 computers. Favorite summer activity so far has been antique shopping. Ready to go relax on the beach! #TLAP
I rarely eat lunch so the kids would sometimes do lunch with me. It worked out for all of us. I’m down 22lbs so far and I can’t wait to be thinner next term. #TLAP
I’d like to share a giant athletic or professional goal with students at the beginning of next year, and collaboratively model daily max effort strategies in trying to achieve it together. #tlap
A2: Something I do is conduct a mock interview. Starts with crafting goals, then resumes, then by student critique on proper dress and then we hold the interviews. #tlap
A2: I used to "struggle" with a problem in front of my Ss. Let them see math isn't about being quick to the answer, but about the thought process and problem solving #tlap
A1: Build it from the ground up! Go in big showing every child they are worth showing up for! L.E.G.I.T Relationships are KEY! #tlap#Nan3EDUhttps://t.co/RrNrgCNFnx
A2: Be transparent in sharing the journey in something you do. Ask students for their advice, how can they help me? How can I show them that when the going gets tough we keep trying? #tlap
A1 I work with Ss and explain how goals can be chunked into measurable parts and I provide examples that pertain to my big goals, and then apply those same principals to things they are hoping to achieve #tlap
A2 I’m an open book. When I was in elementary school, I learned differently. Being able to connect with students and show them I do struggle some speaks more than anything I can teach. #TLAP
A2: I feel like this is tied to A1–model it and share you journey with students so they see its real, relevant, and no matter what Halle s among the journey, it’s worth it #tlap
A1 We can describe to our students what makes school meaningful to us and help them clarify their values so they can choose to make school meaningful for themselves. #tlap
A2: Allow students to give you feedback on what is working and not working in class. Show them that you are taking their feedback and using it to grow. Talk about times that you failed and had to push through it. Talk them through their rough spots & encourage them. #tlap
A2: We have to allow ourselves to fail as well - and then model to students how to overcome. Relationships help us share our personal learning with students as well. Be real, and share your real goals and struggles! #tlap
I taught Math for 20 years and made PLENTY of silly mistakes. OWN IT! Let them know that you make mistakes and how to move on. #NoTemperTantrumsYourTheTeacher#tlap
A1b: I should add that I'm just learning Spanish. I've been taking classes. It's important to me to be able to communicate. Esp. when we get new Ss who are just learning Eng. It's helped me build relationships with many of our Ss❤️☠️ #Tlap
A2: Giving Ss choice is a start. Love activities like @breakoutEDU for challenge and perseverance. Also taught all classes the word "YET..." it's a game changer in mindset! #tlap
A2: By building relationships based on conversations and trust, Ts and Ss create a community that learns to ask for help when situations get tough. Share "gritty" moments. Celebrate perseverance #tlap
I don’t think it has to be a big production. Just sharing a regular update on how our goals are going (including the setbacks along the way) can make a big impact. #TLAP#EduNinja
A2: It's important to show our vulnerability so others see that even when we get knocked down, we pick ourselves up and press on. Everyone has tough days! It's OK to acknowledge it and model perseverance in our words and actions. #tlap
Just this year I tried green screens for the first time. I couldn’t get the lighting right. Trial & error with the kids in the room! All the time I kept saying, “this is why we keep trying until we figure it out”. They see me struggle with new! #tlap
A2: Something I do is conduct a mock interview. Starts with crafting goals, then resumes, then by student critique on proper dress and then we hold the interviews. #tlap
It imperative that Ss see us as real...with real things we need to improve on. I think modeling how to write & track our progress on our goals is important. #tlap
A2: we need to be open with the things we are persevering through, and be mindful that the things they are struggling with are things that we probably once did too! #tlap
A2: Celebrate perseverance in and out of the classroom. Acknowledge with something is hard for you, as the T, so they can see you work through it. Discuss the times when things get really tough! #tlap
A2 For me answer is a lot like A1 bc students need to know it’s okay to fail as long as we reflect on it and pivot. Want to build grit with compassion for my sped students. #tlap
By breaking down in tears and throwing a huge fit. Seriously though, I think sharing about emotions through these failures as well as the process we went through makes us so much more relatable to our Ss. #tlap
A2 Show that in our own failures we continue to question and grow. When I work with Ss I definitely identify w/what they may be going through, however ask pertinent questions about how to continue forward positively, some can't answer, but that's ok we keep working #tlap
A2: Sharing or check-in sessions to let others know what you're proud of and/or struggling with and also listen to others. Show you're not in this adventure in your own. #TLAP
A2: Passion projects. A growth mindset is a natural byproduct of passion projects because it's easier to appreciate the smaller successes. Let kids see you trying, failing, trying, succeeding, failing... and still having passion. #tlap
A2: #tlap I have a "growth mindset" board in my classroom. We put up post it notes with what we're succeeding at, and what we need to keep working on. The post its stay up all year to remind us of how we're improving.
A2: Let Ss take control of their learning! Give them opportunities to discover & find their own solutions! When things get tough, support them through the learning process & encourage to get going when things get tough! #tlap
A2: Besides sharing goals with my HS Ss, I also share failures, my learning, my ideas, & then I try stuff. Ss see me going out of my comfort zone & pushing them out of theirs. We try stuff together. Ss are very supportive when I tell them we try something that might fail. #tlap
A2:I think we need to value productive struggle with our words and actions, instead of just focusing on the final answer or grade. Ss need to see that its OK to make mistakes to learn. We need to consistently think aloud in front of them and let them see we too make mistake #tlap
Hi! I'm Erin from Indiana. I teach some energetic 1st graders. I love power walks, but lately I've been trying to copy my own children's soccer cross-fit conditioning... totally kicking my tail!
SMART goals really help Ss break down goals and understand each component which then helps them understand what they need to do in order to achieve it. #tlap
A2 #TLAP we have to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Students see us determined & focused- finish strong mentality. We Encourage this in our students.
A2 Allow students to see you struggle and how you react. With hs students I can tell them when I am struggling and discuss your plan to deal with the struggle. #tlap
A2 - I've been trying a lot of new things in the classroom and sharing that with students and how it may not work but we'll work together to make it better #TLAP
A2: Scaffolding. Ramping up the expectations in small increments gives the students the confidence necessary to "fail up." Turn a wrong answer into a pathway to deeper thinking. #tlap
A2: Be vulnerable and share that it is tough, show kids that you are authentic and deeply care about them. Ask them for feedback when you try something new. Own it when something is wrong or doesn’t work. Then try it again, don’t just abandon it after 1 failure. #tlap
A2 Share with them your struggles. Build relationships w Ss so they come to you with their struggles and then be their BIGGEST cheerleader!! Constantly follow up w them, even when it’s inconvenient! #tlap
A2 We bring in a group of older students who share stories of how they struggled and what they did to overcome those struggles to reach their goals #tlap
A2 Put kids in situations that require them to push themselves. Getting Ss these opportunities allows them to grow and see that they can do things that stretch them. be real with them about things that happen in my life and career. Show them that failure is a starting block #tlap
I use January as a review time for those big yearly goals. How many have they reached, which ones should they really focus on. It's a great discussion time #tlap
A1: When I have projects I can't finish, or don't work, I bring them out every yr & tell the story of our failure. Solar ovens: I have a solar collector, fan from computer, box with thermometer. We can't generate heat to cook yet. It's been 3 years. #tlap
A2: I have a masters degree in Ed Tech yet still there always seems to be challenges and errors in class when modeling a new tool! I try to own it, remain calm and problem solve in front of the class #tlap
A2: Ss need to see that we fail, get back up, & try again. We learn from mistakes & keep plugging away. It's a process. I always love that FAIL=First Attempt in Learning. Kids think failing is the end of the world, but it happens to real people all of the time. #tlap
A2: Provide lessons that are rigorous and relevant. Allow S voice and choice so they are motivated to want to persevere. Make the task meaningful. #tlap
A2: We model grit daily and engage our students in growth mindset opportunities daily by having meaning conversations, discussions, reading mentor texts, and allowing Ss lots of time collaborating. However, model, model, model, model...Right? #tlap
#tlap A2: I shared this year at the end of the year about migrating process and when teachers grades are due. It seem to help students understand quite a bit. I think they also started to realize how much work goes into wrapping up the semester. Grit.
A2: I think that by showing them when you make a mistake and how to ask for help works wonders. Not to mention.. the conversation that I model is "Oops, I haven't figured that out YET! #tlap
A2 I start the year with all of the K &1 classes and do a series of growth mindset lessons that discuss potential, grit, and fixed vs growth. Then all year we revisit with famous people, book characters, classmates, etc. I work with my 2-5 Ts to do mini lessons as well. #tlap
This year, my colleague and I went with a Be Brave motto. We made magnets for their locker with the saying. We put quotes and notes in their lockers. We always share to Be Brave and try even when it is challenging #tlap
A2: we should encourage Ss to set realistic goals, visit those goals but also create a class culture where students help one another and the students can help me. I had a student create this growth mindset poster for the room #tlap
A2 In my classroom, there are many teachable moments when #edtech doesn't work just right. I model how to stay calm, laugh it off, ask a classmate, watch a tutorial, play around with it, find a work around, etc. - anything but give up. I ❤️ to see them doing the same. #tlap
A2: Be REAL, right @TaraMartinEDU When it gets tough don’t run from it... stop and turn it around and create opportunities to learn with you not just from you! #tlap#Nan3EDU
A2: To model daily grit when work is really tough, we need to celebrate those moments where they kids have pushed through and persevered. It isn't always easy to do that, and we need to recognize it in our Ss so they can recognize it in themselves and each other.
#tlap
A2: Growth mindset is a topic that students discuss, learn & practice in guidance classes. Just one way it is built into the Elementary environment. #TLAP
A2) I am a powerlifter and enjoy participating in local competitions. I share this process with my students and how challenging it is for me. It helps them relate and see a positive example of not giving up and working through things that are hard. #tlap
A2: We start by having a month long unit on growth mindset. We also have a weekly growth mindset goal. When things get tough, we talk our students through the challenges and develop strategies to work through it. We also model. #tlap
#tlap A2 Honesty builds trust. We have to be able to admit to Ss that we all struggle by offering real examples. If we can share that personal struggle for self improvement we can build trust while demonstrating the path to learning is not always a straight line.
#tlap#tlap A2: I shared this year at the end of the year about my grading process and when teachers grades are due. It seemed to help students understand quite a bit. I think they also started to realize how much work goes into wrapping up the semester. Grit.
A2: To me it comes down to relevance and authenticity. If students are learning because they want to, rather than they have to, their ability to persevere and embrace the challenging nature of the content is so much more evident. #tlap
A2 We have to be open about our own experiences, jump in with Ss and try new things, work through struggles together, building relationships is key to helping Ss #TLAP
A2) Be willing to share our goals and how we are working towards them #5kTeacher Push your Ss to make goals and help them achieve them. Make goal path and check in #tlap
Q2: I try to model grit and growth mindset using picture books with my class and also by sharing my struggles + mistakes with Ss- sharing with Ss helps build relationships + a healthy mindset #TLAP
A2. I share with my Ss when teaching about grit how often I was rejected before I was hired as a principal. I don’t blame folks for not hiring me, I wasn’t ready...it made me work harder...leading to growth and eventually landing my dream job in Cherry Hill. #tlap
A2: a big part of being able to have growth mindset & display grit is 2 change our vocabulary - using verbs & phrases that push kids to constantly be evolving & developing an ability to continuously push through obstacles. Helping dissolve an “it’s good enough mentality!” #tlap
A2: Coach them. Meeting with them regularly will allow you to guide & encourage them. It will also show them that they matter, and that making time for growth is IMPORTANT! #tlap
A2: You can’t just tell them to jump back on the horse. You have to show them how. Break it down, compartmentalize the goal into pieces they believe are achievable. Nobody writes an entire book in one setting. They write one chapter at a time. #tlap
A2 We bring in a group of older students who share stories of how they struggled and what they did to overcome those struggles to reach their goals #tlap
A2: We have to admit to mistakes, change in the moment and be intentional about how we handle mistakes! Show our students, and colleagues, for that matter, that failing does in fact lead to success! #tlap
A2: I had a STEAM class for the first time this year. We would discuss some of the lessons as a class. What worked? What didn't? Why? What will I do next time? It led to some great discussions. #tlap
A2) I showed this class the TED Talk with Angela Ducksworth a few times this year & I had the kids add to their notes & dialogue. We made SMART goals daily then weekly & so on. Although hard, I wouldn’t give answers to the hard q’s; productive struggle! #TLAP
A2: FOLLOW THROUGH! If we expect Ss to have the grit to follow through on their goals, they need to see us do it too! It's good for them to see us in the game! Share your goals, talk about the game plan, rebound from setbacks, and ALWAYS FOLLOW THROUGH! 💪☠️✨

A2 By connecting and showcasing successes for things we think of as mundane...highlight Ss who attend in the face of tough home situations...that type of grit can be used as motivation for even the largest tasks #tlap
A2: I share my failures with my Ss & discuss how I overcame the loss & turned it into a win. Ss need to see how when things become challenging- it isn’t the time to give up. We will face challenges our entire lives & need to build strategies to help us overcome obstacles. #tlap
A2: When I was in the classroom I would pull up my evidence collection. I shared why I chose an artifact& how I felt it displayed criteria. They often would suggest something or would say I don’t think that fits 😉 I also shared conference propsals ones accepted & ones not #tlap
A2: Be REAL, right @TaraMartinEDU When it gets tough don’t run from it... stop and turn it around and create opportunities to learn with you not just from you! #tlap#Nan3EDU
A2) I will be honest when I get it wrong! Including students in the px solving process when challenges arise is necessary. Kids have great ideas when we listen! #tlap
A2: I've modeled growth mindset as I've taken Span classes & am trying to practice speaking during SEL lessons w/my Ss. They see me make mistakes, keep trying, they enjoy helping me when I forget a word. I also incorporate hands on learning & S interests in every lesson. #tlap
A3: Let them see you fail in your personal and academic endeavors (not hard for me because I fail all the time) and then let them watch you make a comeback. #tlap
A2: You are speaking my language! I'm a big believer in reflective writing, requiring process thinking. As I try new ideas, I seek feedback from Ss on my good, bad and ugly. New activity? Should I keep or dump? #tlap
Yes! Connection: I'm reading Kids 1st from Day 1 and there is a section that reminds us to "focus on the process," not the end product. @christine_hertz@MrazKristine#tlap

Modeling vulnerability shows students you’re scared to set big goals, but set them anyway. Through daily hard work, positive self-talk, and the supportive force of friends when you fall, these strategies help you eventually succeed with practice. #tlap
A3: Oh I have always did that, when something is not working, I continue on, trying to get things to work. The next class, we figure it out and then continue on. Always learning, always going forward. #tlap
A3: We are doing daily mindfulness lessons and teaching zones of regulation to students. We are also doing more brain breaks with walks outside just to refocus and recharge during tough lessons. #tlap
A3: I had a poster in class that said "the best angle to approach any problem is the try-angle". Let's be like Mrs. Frizzle and get messy and make mistakes #TLAP
I wake up every morning at 4:45 so I can get on the treadmill for 90 minutes before work. Really starts my day with a boost of energy and 1 goal already accomplished! #tlap
A2: discuss lessons and activities with them. Ask how they can be improved or changed. Make those changes and reflect again. Admit weaknesses. Design a plan to improve and share all of this with the ss. #tlap
A2. Ss need to take control of their learning and learn to problem solve! Take a big problem and break it down into smaller portions and deal with it accordingly.Celebrate when solution is achieved! #tlap
A2: Ts and Ss both need to share in the project’s failures, collaboration, and problem solving. Gone are the days teachers had all the answers. It is not realistic. #tlap
A2: No student will just naturally know this. You must model for them what the productive struggle would be like. Teach students how to search for opportunities to be challenged. #TLAP
A2: I ask students to share their frustrations by writing what they are thinking on the board when they are feeling challenged.”This hard””I feel mad I can’t get this” etc. They really appreciate seeing other Ss feel the same way & help cheerlead each other through w/grit! #tlap
A2. Planning for worthwhile tasks grounded in the essential outcomes. Don’t jump in with the life preserver when Ss are in the midst of productive struggle. Classroom mtgs to demo/discuss strategies to show perseverance #tlap
A2 Everything meaningful in life will eventually involve some kind of pain—whether it’s frustration, tedium, anxiousness, embarrassment, or isolation. We can help our students understand their values and develop the willingness to struggle in the service of their values. #TLAP
A3: It's a good idea to include Ss in resolving challenges in the classroom. Conversation and reflection should be centered on successes and failures. #tlap
#tlap A3: I often just “open book” my goals with students and kind of map out my thinking and decisions made—I literally make big map with my goal, actions, choices, and what resulted. Sounds silly, it it helps visualize the entire process
Our school became a “7 habits” school this year & I love the weekly focus lessons on character & leadership it instills. I was surprised how many Ss has never heard words like “perseverance” or thought of how to push thru difficult circumstances #TLAP
A3: We have to be so careful with how we word things...like people who say they aren't math people, or not good with tech...kids hear that lack of a growth mindset and will learn to shrug and move on. After we "fail", we have to share what we could do to change the results. #tlap
A3: I like to have individual meetings with Ss during projects to ask them about their successes and struggles and offer advice. I had Ss reflect a lot this year through a digital portfolio about their learning. #tlap
A3: Modeling is key. I share stories of my own failures. I am open about failures during the year. With my 3rd graders I find they really need these real life examples of how to accept and respond to failure in healthy ways that promote growth. #tlap
A3: Regularly ask students to write written reflections (or use flipgrid) on what went well and not so well for a particular lesson or book. Ask guided questions that lead them through the process. #tlap
A3: We share our stories. We build a culture of trust. We strengthen relationships with one another. That's when we can acknowledge those "not-so-great" moments that build our character and mold our compassion for others and for ourselves. #tlap
A3: Letting Ss step away from the problem, ensuring that they return to the task when their mind is clear. It's perfectly fine to walk away for a bit if frustration is mounting; it's not okay to walk away for good though. #tlap
A3: Use literature to teach about failure and overcoming struggle. It provides a great entry point for discussion. Find authentic learning opportunities outside of class to engage Ss in discussion. #tlap
I use a calm demeanor as I walk into any situation; stressful or not. Ss see that my even keel attitude goes with me everywhere. I model this daily; some call it a poker face, I call it what needs to happen with struggling Ss. When we celebrate though-over the top!! #tlap
A3: As a T, you need to step out of your comfort zone if you are going to ask students to do the same. Do something that makes you uncomfortable or that you have very little knowledge about. When you struggle, when you fail, when you get back up, all eyes are on you. #tlap
A3 I love going to PE with my class and playing with them to help them realize that even if something doesn't go their way or they don't win there is an appropriate way to handle it #tlap
A2: Sharing our struggles and showing we are not perfect but also seeing how we handle our issues-personal and work. Ask for help from students to work through issues so they can see the process in action. #tlap
I literally read Innovator’s Mindset in front of them while they read and ultimately they will ask me about it... Oh, this thing? Let me tell you! By the time we are done they think @gcouros is their best friend! Ha! #IMMOOC#tlap#Nan3EDU

A3 I teach growth mindset lessons that I got from @Angela_Watson It shows famous "failures" and teaches self talk techniques. The vocabulary is highly used in my classroom #tlap
A3 It’s great to get the students to help you build a list or toolbox of strategies. Everyone can share what helps them and may try new things if they had a voice in it. #tlap
A3 Letting Ss see my struggles and talking to them about it. How I felt. What I thought. How did I decide to move on. Give them an idea on how to get through things when it happens to them...#tlap
A3) When I fail, I dig my heels in and use that traction to come back stronger than ever. I model the use of "size of the problem" & what I can do about it, in these moments. Keeping failure in perspective is easier said than done. #tlap
A3 #tlap talking about growth mindset keeps conversations about failure positive. Failure becomes something we need to improve and to learn from, not something to be ashamed of.
A3: I try so many things 2 help Ss w/ their learning, & when I do, I always start w/this might fail but we're going to try. I let them see that I learn from failure too. Then we all try new things. I make them uncomfortable in their learning but my Ss keep moving forward. #tlap
First- Jen Bell from Houston, Tx and I work with grades 6 - 8
A2: Share a goal you have with them & give updates along the way including challenges. Invite Ss to do the same. Also fun to share famous examples - great documentaries out there. #TLAP
#tlap a3: For me it's in the little things like thanking students if they catch a mistake I wrote on the chalkboard and saying, "Thank you; even teachers make mistakes and it's okay to learn from our mistakes!"
A3: My favorite mistake is a great in the classroom instructional strategy. I would be interesting to apply that idea to a classroom meeting where kids can share a real world mistake what the learned. #tlap
A3: Modeling these strategies & narrating aloud as we work through & learn from mistakes/failures. Important to narrate aloud for them, as EF are still developing. Our Ss don't have that inner dialogue yet, good news is, we can teach those skills! #tlap
The @jennifer_burdis story is inspirational. She's tackled challenges to become an elite college athlete, American Ninja Warrior, & rockstar elementary teacher...now an author. That last part...wait until you hear her story. https://t.co/qgxWbJ2SKa#tlap
A3: don’t be so quick to jump in and give the answer to those struggling. Know your students and help them know you’re there to guide not give answers. #tlap
A3: I always encourage Ss to come up with ways to solve their own struggles. Since I teach first we discuss what could happen and pick the best choice. We also spend a lot of time self-monitoring so we respond correctly to struggling. &I Model self-monitoring often. #tlap
A3: Ss are asked in my class if they write or voice a frustration they must think and try to write or voice a solution...then try it. If they get stuck I guide, but asking them to come up w/their solution and try it actually does work 99.9% of the time!We support each other! #tlap
Great idea. I think we often assume "it's just me" and when we start to realize others have similar struggles, it normalizes the challenges. Also builds a sense that we are in this together #tlap
A3: For example in math, we need to value unsuccessful tries as long as the students use them to reflect on their mistake and find a better way to solve. I like the open middle math from @robertkaplinsky#tlap
A3. when something fails, I love to go 400% overboard. Literally i May end up rocking back and forth on the ground. Ss laugh and take for the humor. then I stand up. Dust myself off and ask what that solved. Then I ask what I could do that would help. Power of YET! #tlap
A3: I do this more with my nieces; model positive self-talk, mindful moments, and being openly reflective on my actions and words used around them. #tlap
A3: Reflection - definitely. Either verbal, written or just time to think. Then a chance to retry/redo or move on. Just started #STEM challenges in library & we talk a lot about this! #tlap
A3:We begin with central message failure means we've been giving an opportunity to grow. Ss brainstorm specific situations where they've failed and what the result of that failure was. Give Ss time to collaborate with other Ss. Have grand discussions. Always anchor back #tlap
A:3 Always keep your cool with the student and treat them with respect no matter the situation. Can’t imagine many have looked back on yelling at a student and thought that was a productive long term action #tlap
A3: I think classroom meetings are excellent opportunities to develop and establish that culture! I loved using the 7 habits for happy kids to get the conversation going! #LearnLAP inspired my classroom meetings in so many ways! #tlap
✨A3: Having a growth mindset needs to be taught, demonstrated, and relentlessly pursued! I love reading this article with my students at the beginning of the year! Check it out👇👀

A3: If it’s so important for students to be able to bounce back from failure, does it make sense to set them up to fail in a controlled setting so we can teach them to recover from failure? What do you think?
[BLOG] Set Students Up For Failure? https://t.co/ctv2K4bvjx#TLAP
Students follow our lead. We need to be able to fail in front of our students in order for them to embrace failure. This doesn't happen much because we are under so much pressure to have perfect lessons, understanding, and test scores. #tlap
A3 I am constantly learning new technology in integrate into my makerspace. I am very open with my students on my many failures aka as productive struggles before eventual success.#tlap
A3 How we frame failure matters. Are we using language that frames failure as permanent destruction, or can we think of ways to frame failure as a temporary pause, or even a new opportunity to to grow? #tlap
A3: it’s all about ATTITUDE! How we react to all of the little classroom bumps: technology, lack of copies, interruptions. If as we model positive reactions 2 obstacles students will see how to respond. Then talk about it with them, in real time teachable moments! #tlap
A3: I read this text to 3rd- 5th graders this year and discussed how the character was at afraid at first to step out of his comfort zone but by the support of his friends, is able to change his mindset. EVERY class absolutely loved this book -our discussions were so great! #tlap
A3: I try to enforce in my students that in science labs it’s never about getting the “right” data. It’s about understanding your data. That’s the real skill #tlap
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
A2: Use constant growth mindset language and model when the teacher makes mistakes. Share often experiences that students have with tough challenges and how they got past them #LUlearns#TLAP
Tons of great videos and resources for this. I love the @ClassDojo Big Idea series on Growth Mindset and Perservance. Great conversation starters! #tlap
A3: I model by talking about my life stories... the good, the bad, the ugly. The take away is always to keep going. They learn to keep pushing even when they are being challenged. #tlap
A3) I try to be transparent with my Ss.Sometimes I’ll get stumped:confused&I’ll be honest with them. I don’t hide it or play it off like I meant to make a mistake. In fact, I’ll thank Ss for correcting me (sometimes I talk/work too fast&make mistakes-perfect learning exp ) #tlap
A3: Working with the tech team we talk about different methods or solutions to issues. Looking at the pros/cons and letting them make the decisions not the teacher telling them the path to follow and just have them mimic our process. They need to own it. #tlap
A3: I take risks in the CR and model strategies on how to handle success or failures - open discussions and feedback help grow a positive mindset #TLAP
A3 I think reflection is important here...tap into their metacognitive skills. Help them become more responsible for themselves in order for them to adjust their path to achieve success. #tlap
A3: don’t be so quick to jump in and give the answer to those struggling. Know your students and help them know you’re there to guide not give answers. #tlap
A3) I purposely teach growth mindset during morning meeting and different activities. I want them to understand you might have a hard time but you can step up and try again #tlap
We have the saying in our classroom that if we make a mistake it means we are trying and we can learn from it. I think a big part is modeling strategies but giving Ss time to work it out before jumping in to help. #tlap
A3: We learn about and research famous failures. I talk about times I have failed and how I worked through my failures. When a S fails, we talk through it. #tlap
Meeting the needs of all learners means providing plenty of differentiated learning with auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning opportunities so students feel engaged, supported, and challenged. #tlap
#tlap A3 - You can’t change a mindset with a strategy. You have to live it with the kids watching. Let them see you working, failing and then solving a problem. That’s life.
A3: My wife explicitly taught growth mindset to her 4th graders & talked about the connections made in the brain and make a display modern in her classroom; her kids redid and improved their work. It had a huge impact on their class work, self image & state tests! #tlap
A3: For us it's explicit. I've learned to be subtle about wrong answers & thank them for [trying/risking, get out the thesaurus here]. It helps change the climate of the room. #tlap
A4: My district offers numerous extracurricular activities. This past year we opened up a career and technology center that juniors and seniors could attend for their elective classes! #tlap
A2. Model the struggle. I ❤️ letting my students see me struggle....and not give up. They will cheer me on when I try to do a pull up or push up and I will do the same for them when solving complex math problems. #tlap
A3 How we frame failure matters. Are we using language that frames failure as permanent destruction, or can we think of ways to frame failure as a temporary pause, or even a new opportunity to to grow? #tlap
A3. Remembering that fail=first attempt in learning and so on! We all experience failures, by modelling and sharing our experiences, the Ss learn it's ok to fail and try again. That's how we learn and problem solve! #tlap
A3: When the tough moments happen I am ME! If that means tears then they see tears. If it means frustration than we talk through it until it’s resolved! #tlap#Nan3EDU
A4: For starters - we have to all agree that we must have the brutally honest conversation and agree on what our students (and families) need. We have to look past only academics, and talk about the whole child. Where are our accountability goals for that? #tlap
#tlap A4: Honestly, so much I cannot even begin to enumerate all the ways. I am completely impressed. There is always something going on for every student and every need/interest!
A4: Our school uses the #handsonmindson approach - we believe that when Ss are engaged and hands-on with content, minds are turned on and ready to learn. #tlap
A4: we emphasize getting to know our students and attempting to individualize instruction for each child. We spend time with students conferencing about almost every task and using that as entry to their lives; building relationships #TLAP
A4 Healthy-we feed them breakfast and lunch (even during summer) Safe-most of our students want to stay for the summer 😀 Engaged-using out of the box techniques and strategies akin to them Supported-building strong relationships Challenged-Genius Hour Passion/Projects #tlap
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
Meeting the needs of all learners means providing plenty of differentiated learning with auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning opportunities so students feel engaged, supported, and challenged. #tlap
A4) Our school does a lot to celebrate Ss and challenge Ss to be their best. We also make time for Ss who struggle and talk to them and give them tools to deal with frustration #tlap
A4) our school is unique in our area as it’s k-8 and most everyone knows everyone else. We watch our students grow up at our school. The kids aren’t just one teacher’s, but the whole school’s students and we rely on everyone to intervene when needed. #tlap
A4: We used Restorative Justice for building relationships. We also had amazing grade level PLNs that focused on the students while content PLNs focused on academics. #tlap
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
A3: this year we worked on things that don’t have one correct answer. Ss had to support their answer. This opened Ss minds and helped with anxiety of not knowing the “right” answer #tlap
Q1: As educators how are we modeling or how do we plan on modeling even bigger EduNinja™ sized goal setting next year so students can learn from us. #tlap
I get to know my Ss individually and learn what challenges they face. I check in over breaks through fun activities like #summerbingo as well as engage in meaningful conversations with families about their S and what makes them so great!
#tlap
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
A3: Truthfully I don't think we model this enough. I think the biggest impact can come by talking with Ss ind. as they share their struggles. The convo can start specifically about a class assignment then grow. Letting Ss see u deal with failure as u take risks too. #TLAP
A3: I model problem solving strategies and think out loud when I make mistakes. I share about my personal life often and find examples that they can relate to #LUlearns#tlap
I feel like as long as there is this emphasis on raising test scores, Ts will feel the pressure to do what is safe, what works, and what will improve scores. I wish we could try new things everyday and fail without reprcussions. #tlap
A3 #tlap discuss and model how you never give up. I show examples of former students & their successes in Google slides. Use inspirational stories like BMartin. Going to show horse Gronkowski that was SO LAST and ended up 2nd to Justify.
A4: When students come in stressed, we have a drop everything and talk moment and discuss the problem. Sometimes, they come in collectively stressed. When we take a moment to address their stress/anxiety, and talk about ways to manage it, it helps them move past it. #tlap
Yes! So true! Many times Ts will say "technology hates me" then I will see Ss repeating the same phrase. It's all in how we deal with the hurdles along the way. Positive mindset can overcome even the steepest mountains to climb! #tlap
A3. Help Ss see that trials and failures are a means to growth. When the heat is on, you allow it to burn you down or use the fire to refine you...shape you into something better! #tlap
A4. As an SRO, I try and have 5:1 positive interactions to negative ones. I see past the problem/issue and remember that I AM THE ADULT and every repeated behavior is rewarded somehow. Home visits to just chat help build positive relationships. #tlap
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
A3: @nycoldidcote and I just finished doing #MindsetMondayLRSD which was awesome. Growth mindset books and a slow twitter chat every week in May hosted by different classrooms in order to expand and share our learning! Hope to do it again next year!#tlap
A4: We get to attend a training on trauma and how it affects the students learning. We also host a conference and invite the parents to learn about healthy minds too! #TLAP#mabanklearns
Q4: What do you, your school, and your community do to address the needs of the whole child to ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged? #tlap
A4: Talk. To. Them. Talk and listen. Adapt. Be flexible. Be kind. Give them a combination of what you think they need and what they think they need. Let them have some control of their own education so they can learn to love learning. #tlap

A3b: I did this when I taught in our after schl prog. I taught a crochet class to elem. Ss. It was a great way for them to learn about practicing new skills and then seeing the joy when they master or create something new! That was so great for building relationships w/Ss! #tlap
A4: New Richmond is a small community where I grew up and graduated from and now teach. When people need help, there’s no place like it. https://t.co/PbW5Hd3ORz#tlap
A4 Meet students basic needs as well as emotional and all around needs too. Meet students where they’re at, fill their toolboxes, and watch greatness occur. #tlap
A4 To ensure students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, challenged—and empowered—we can teach them how to make school meaningful for themselves. #tlaphttps://t.co/gJkpGucobu

A4: We us Second Step Curriculum to teach self-regulation, friendship skills, and support s-e learning. Kindness Challenges and Leadership Hour for 100% of Ss. Ss learn they make a difference and they have a choice in their attitude and behavior. #tlap
Nope... not saying it happens often, but they happen. My relationship with them depends on me being real. When we hurt we hurt together. ♥️ #tlap#Nan3EDU
A4: Check on & build relationships with as many Ss as you can. Authentic relationships goes a long way for opening lines of communication and truly learning the needs of the Ss. Our FRC and community in @covkyschools is AMAZING in helping Ts help the Ss and their families! #tlap
A4: Each individual is different with different needs. Finding time to really get to know your students can make the difference instead of treating them as a piece of data. #tlap

A4) This year, our district eliminated "pay to play" fees for extracurricular activities. More access, less barriers = more students trying sports, etc that they may not have had resources to do before. It's a game changer! #tlap
A4: Our district is moving to become trauma informed. Eye opening to look into ACEs study & resilience. Looking at whole child & addressing basic needs then content #tlap
A1: I think by being open with my students/keeping them in the loop with decisions. When introducing #flexibleseating to Ss I want to share the process of the mindset shift with my Ss, give them some power of decision making and fail/succeed together at the beginning #tlap
Kids are taken outside as needed, not just during set recess breaks. If extra supplies needed, send an email to all staff and it’s found and delivered. We work as a team! #tlap
A4: STUDENT FAMILY! I get the privledge of being a family advisor, A.K.A. School Mom. I get them as 6th graders and stay with me until they leave M.S. Each morning we meet, talk, laugh, do team-building activities, family challenges, social/emotional lessons, etc! 💪☠️✨ #TLAP
A4: Seeing them as more than a score or a grade. Getting involved in their interests and foster them when possible. Letting them know with our actions that we believe in them until they believe in themselves!! #tlap

A2 at the end of the year, 1st graders teach the class. 1 taught how to do monkey bars and we all tried. I said “I don’t know, I am not so good at this “ but figured I would try so they could see me give it a go. Friends...... I DID it!!! #tlap
A4: my MS is going to start doing next year is school families, it doesn’t have to just be for Elementary Schools! We are going to have 6-8 homerooms and loop with them :) I’m so excited about what this means for me and the relationships I get to develop with my kids! #tlap
A4: We have a therapist on staff to handle the emotional issues, a free breakfast program, SRO, & new S club "Traction" that plans 2 make sure ALL Ss drive safely, say no 2 drugs/alcohol, & stop bullying. This club is S driven. We also offer Suicide training for community. #tlap
A3: We have to have reflective conversations w/ the Ss about what went right and what went wrong and plan next steps for finishing or learning goals bridge the gaps. #tlap
A4 My school does a good job of making sure every student feels loved and wanted. Its as simple as greeting them at the door every day with a smile and positive word and doing the same when they get on the bus each afternoon #tlap
A4: We make sure that all stakeholders are involved in the decision making process. Ss need to be successful academically, socially, & emotionally. It’s our responsibility to ensure that our Ss feel safe enough to be able to focus on school & when they don’t- we step up. #tlap
A4: We start off with breakfast, make the classroom a safe place by connecting with students 1 on 1, set up an environment of friends, and discuss issues that are hurtful. We have an extra person enter the classrooms throughout the day to offer support where it is needed. #tlap

A4: One stategey our school has implemented is the 2 by 10 where a teacher initiates a personal contact with a student twice per day for ten days. This creates the safe environment they need. #tlap
A4: It starts with treating a student as a person. When you say you don't have time, when you say that you need to stay on task, what you are telling the kid is that you value the content over the person. A kid can never learn if they are emotionally unavailable. #tlap
Q4: We work tgrough adv to have lessons directly related to their social emotional needs & challenge them to help others. All extra curricular activities participate in community service. Academically we are moving to more choice for extensions & PBL. #TLAP
