So true! Kids can be so creative too with the ideas. We did an Invention Convention a few years back...like science fair, but focus on creating new things. #isedchat
A2: Well, I believe students should learn computer science, not just coding, because so much of our world today relies on CS and algorithms. It's important that everyone understands how things work. #isedchat
A2) Coding is the new universal language. We want students to be prepared for jobs that don’t exist yet, we have to prepare them for a changing work force. #isedchat
A3: We have had a lot of alumni go into Computer Sci after high school (not at our school). Have to find way to bridge that gap in our school. #isedchat
A3 that there can be multiple solutions, resilience, computational thinking, direction pattern all for a low cost of $19.85 per month using the @s_bearden method #isedchat
A3: Students are learning to break problems down into smaller parts, how to figure out the important parts of the problem, how to persevere, how to iterate and make their solutions better. #isedchat
a3. I enjoy watching them finding out the more they know, the less they know...and that NOT being a bad thing. You can see the determination in their eyes!

And if you want your students to be daydreamers in the land of unicorns and rainbows, you can use the @nathan_stevens method for a low cost of $17483738373.35 #isedchat

a4. I actually had one of my teachers teach herself how to code after our #hourofcode two years ago. She then created a new exploratory class to teach at our school!
Shoutout @tdravel#isedchat
A4: Teach computer science throughout the year. Check out the CSTA standards at https://t.co/hgFQdW7jTx and some states have their own CS standards. #isedchat
A4: we integrate CS into humanities classes at all grades through APP design and @birdbraintech robotics, have game design classes, @HFAEDGE tech start-up for Ss, CS, engineering and robotics electives. #isedchat

I use the CSTA standards & a variety of things - some @codeorg courses - I like the new Middle School course and lots of Scratch - jr & regular. #isedchat
We coded Hamilton apps as part of 10th grade Cult Lit and other topics like migration and racial equity in @educateyinz 11th Cult Lit last year...can’t wait to see where they go with 12th this year #isedchat
a5. I'm really torn by this one. I'd love to incorporate more of this in my school, but Lord knows my Ts don't need one more thing to do!
Still trying to figure out where the balance is.

A5: I think you need to figure out where it will "fit". Do you integrate it into math classes w/something like @Bootstrapworld? Do you have all Ts use @codeorg curriculum? Do you add electives? #isedchat

We have tech classes in 5th and 6th, a tech option for 5th, a unit or two in grades 3 and 4. Year long in 2nd. Nothing in 7th and 8th. #isedchat K and 1 some in Media Center.
A7: well, I left a school that was reluctant and only dipping toes because of As not willing to shift practice for all Ss and make it a priority. Must be bold and explain well to stakeholders. #ISEDchat
How interested are parents in having kids learn CS. Parent pressure can be a great influencer. I start by showing how coding can be used as an alternative to things like reports, presentations, posters, etc. More student choice. #isedchat
Yes, students can be reluctant. At our school, I teach CS in tech class and all students take it so all students learn some coding. There are some that don't love it but there are some that don't love English or Math or Science. #isedchat
Chance the Rapper surprised children in Chicago by crashing a 5th grade classroom and then announcing to the whole school that Google is donating $1.5 million to help implement computer science in the city’s public schools:
