Hi everyone! I’m Kristen from the @NEAFoundation — tweeting from a rainy & chilly DC. The last domestic trip I took was to Boston. The last international trip was to Beijing! #globaledchat
A1. But there are #globaled resources for educators in the Seattle area, including 8 Title VI centers at @UW, @wacseattle, Confucius Institute of WA. #globaledchat 2/2
A1 #globaledchat Lots of support! I am so lucky to work in #cvsdvt Leadership supports innovation, creativity and @TheGlobalGoals#grateful to bring to our district. Other teachers are exploring, wahoo! #wsdvt
Q1: Hi everyone! Local admin is super supportive of global competencies but I don’t believe there is much awareness in NY state at this point. Hoping to change that! #Globaledchat
A2 #globaledchat I think about how important it is for teachers to pursue their passions. Global learning for me is about sharing my passion and inspiration with others. Student voices, when elevated resonate with others, connection occurs, learning is the focus.. similarities...
A2 #globaledchat I think districts need to promote field studies for teachers and offer students opportunities to travel and connect with a topic of interest.
A2: More support of difficult and controversial topics around social justice and human rights. It needs to be central, not seen as dangerous. #globaledchat@globaledguide
A2: World language focus is a foundational issue #globaledchat. CO just went through a long fight to get a "seal of bi-literacy" at the state level. Kudos to all those involved!
Q2: Support?? I’d just be thrilled if fellow educators were aware of what I am referring to when I bring up global competencies. I’m spreading the word as much as possible. Too much focus on high stakes testing. #globaledchat
A2 #globaledchat I think it is important for districts to promote and engage teacher leaders who are exploring and actively involved with global learning/creating a global culture. Experience, sharing stories inspires others..
A2: Often districts that support #globaled in theory, don’t allocate enough resources to actually implement it. Frameworks and standards on paper are nice, but that additional support is so essential! #globaledchat

A3: I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: students' own cell phones. It's how they access the world outside of school, why not in it #globaledchat?
A3: There are so many incredible #globaled projects one can join so easily... I packed @globaledguide with current examples to help teachers build high (and low) visibility global partnerships. #GlobalEdChat
A3 Stories matter. Stories influence. Allowing students to use their unique voice on social media and other platforms makes sure that others see the 1st person impact of #globaled. #globaledchat

A4 #globaledchat Helping promote the @TeachSDGs@TheGlobalGoals is not an extra thing, but a necessary and vital movement for positive change, impactful for ALL of us.
A3 My Ss read about the Syrian war in #StoryWorks. Many were confused and didn't understand what war actually was and how it affected kids just like them. #globaledchat
A4. A global lens gives meaning to knowledge and skills so students foster a deep understanding of the world. Higher engagement=academic achievement. #globaledchat
A4: I’m discovering challenges around current events on a glocal level in Colombia. Politics have folks split over peace process and it makes it very hard to have authentic dialogue about local and global perspectives. #globaledchat
A4 I don’t even think 280 characters is enough to answer this one! Resistance to change, competing priorities and time commitments, lack of resources, lack of teacher agency in rigid curriculum standards etc...#globaledchat
A4: I’ve experienced little pushback on incorporating global competencies “as long as it compliments the important subjects”. In my mind, “the important subjects” compliment global competencies. #globaledchat
A4 #globaledchat Students want to know about the world and become inspired to learn and connect to make a difference. This curiosity fosters learning in so many ways. Proud to be an ambassador for @TeachSDGs Children want to be heroes...

We hear this a lot from teachers, too! Important to think about ways global learning integrates w/ and enhances academic and social & emotional learning #globaledchat

A5: Families of alums can help make a case for the impact of #globaled on their children’s contributions post school. Families of current students can help create pressure in many places, helping legitimize the vision of educators. #globaledchat
A5 #globaledchat Families have ideas too! In my district I was approached by a parent who is helping me connect w/ a local, public area to pursue forest sustainability for the school. Opportunities for children to support @TeachSDGs #15 Life ON Land. Learning alongside community.
Exactly. And it is interesting to see the conversation of “21st century skills” take place without recognizing the direct connection to global education! #globaledchat
This is definitely the challenge we encounter most often. Luckily a lot of trailblazers have shown that not only is “core education” not negatively impacted, it is improved. #globaledchat
A6: Students’ ideas about how to improve the world and their own communities are the best PR tools invented. Be intentional in building public audience for student exhibitions and we can create change from inside the schoolhouse. #globaledchat
Hey #Globaledchat, dropping in late tonight! Looking fwd to our summit in March in which a rep from DCPS will be participating among many #globaled luminaries. https://t.co/n2IZtzYhqs
A6) Discussing future career prospects that are global in order to show leadership that #globaled is essential to future success of students #globaledchat
A7.Teachers in our #globalstudies schools showcase student work to demonstrate the power of fostering global competence through the disciplines #globaledchat
Student products from today’s Celebration of Learning included powerful writing and artistic work on Colombia’s shifting national challenges and Bogotá’s local identity. #Globaledchat
