No coffee this morning. well see how I do.
LOVE THIS! (and so wish it were true) https://t.co/gwsa8BAKAe
Good morning ! You're suddenly the head of PD for your district. What does the ideal PD day include (and NOT include)?
Good Morning looking for you guys to wake me up, long night with unhappy ending
Yes I hope is okay Stay safe! https://t.co/EhNcp0P6z8
Good morning, . Concerned about our friends in the SE & all of those affected by the hurricane.
What?! Why would you do that?
Coffee is brewing and my brain is thinking about working. Good morning!
Good morning Stacey from NJ.
Oh no! I hope all is okay!
1st things 1st. Never pretend that everybody is going to be happy with PD. Some hate it no matter what.
Morning! I can tell already it is going to be a long day.
This is a loaded question. https://t.co/TsUy0oqZHB
Good morning ! You're suddenly the head of PD for your district. What does the ideal PD day include (and NOT include)?
I would want to give my Ts time just to collaborate. And give them a Great lunch!! https://t.co/MtOsvxpG5w
Good morning ! You're suddenly the head of PD for your district. What does the ideal PD day include (and NOT include)?
Good morning friends. Finally back after the storm - thinking of everyone in FL and GA - it's a rough one, be safe.
That I know! Thank you! :)
they happen for sure! Today is a new day :-)
Good morning my friends! How r we this Thursday morn?
Good Morning Alice from Nantucket, MA looking for some positive energy to start my Thursday
You got it !Also don't take it personal. https://t.co/fTPyBZ9uP1
1st things 1st. Never pretend that everybody is going to be happy with PD. Some hate it no matter what.
Greetings all 'era not too much time today. Cardboard challenge day at school. Start with Caine's Arcade https://t.co/iANgvIguZX
Greetings all 'era not too much time today. Cardboard challenge day at school. Start with Caine's Arcade https://t.co/O7JMZhRmDy
glad you are back and safe!
There needs to be relevant instruction, time to integrate it into lessons and time to share out afterwards.
Good morning!!Good to be back after 3 days with no school because of the storm
Good morning ! Looking forward to Thursday's chat.
Brian, HS principal from Mass.
THAT is the question of the morning!
Okay folks... it's Thursday. We can do this...
Ideal PD would NOT include sitting and looking at a power point. I think a staff retreat to focus on team building would be great.
Giving it up? I've never been a coffee drinker...but I'm a little odd! 😊
Good morning Ylonka - I'm sooooo happy to go back to work!
It definitely includes food and coffee! Also, conversation among educators.
Good Morning ! First timer here. 😊
No keynote speaker, rarely are they worth the $$$ they get & are typically ineffective to vast majority in attendance
Good morning beautiful people. Off to the last local Farmer's Market of the season with my grade 1-2 class today-with iPads too!
Good morning all! It's been a while. How's everyone doing? Hoping none of you are in Matthew's path!
My wife forgot to make it.
An ideal PD day includes a tangible takeaway that can be immediately implemented and something to build on with support.
Choice! And lot's of it!!
We have been do personalized PD meeting teachers needs
Honestly, let me read anything by publishing. Done
You came to the right place!
PD can't be one size fits all...
Good morning - q is made for me this morning, I'm leading PD this afternoon!
I agree. Keynote speeches are rarely worth it.
Welcome! This group is awesome!
1st&4most, feed them well. Then provide some choice based on what Ts tell u they want
awesome!! Have a great day!
Glad to hear that you are ok Carla!
Solicit input from Ts. Allow T leaders to step up and share. Look at different models. One size does not fit all.
I am lucky to be on the innovation team in my district. We deliver T-sourced embedded PD on tech. Also lucky my dept. piloted GH PD
I am completely jealous of you right now (and I hate field trips)
Hi Veronica! I'm waiting for mine to brew.
This is my everyday! The best is when we collaborate w Ts and offer choice w/ rigor, relevance and relationships at the heart.
Like we do for Ss, high quality PD should be targeted & personalized to the need of each T, with followup to ensure effectiveness.
How are you! Thinking of you!
Ideal PD include choice, multiple sessions, and a few laughs.
Bad PD: long lecture that repels engagement
Try multiple formats! My school is offering twitter chats as a PD option in additional to online and traditional methods.
Quality PD models best instructional practice. Brief input of new ideas, time to question and collaborate, lots of reflection
Food, coffee, no talk about standardized testing, oh and coffee ! https://t.co/SGkDhyrEjD
Good morning ! You're suddenly the head of PD for your district. What does the ideal PD day include (and NOT include)?
Bookmarked for later. Thanks Ben.
I've done PD leadership roll in the past...need to response to the voices of our Ts and provide choice...collaborative inquiry.
PD should be T-driven and should look more than an ED camp than being talked at all day!
Well Today's PD will be self guided EdCamp style with crowdsourced topics and the rule of two-feet applies. No company promos
Good. Ironing! The ideal PD is run like an edcamp so I would need to plan early with a group of engaged Ts.
T choice, small group as to include everyone, differentiation, ongoing-not just a one day deal, supports T & school goals, snacks
may it be an awesome day of innovation and celebration for all!
I want something I can use the very next day and that informs my practice for the future - too much to ask?
I love Edcamp style PD - our teachers have so much to share
Welcome! Best PLN around. I've seen u at before. Glad u r here
Good morning, . I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina. I love this topic!
This sounds amazaing and I'm like ... field trips aren't my favorite!
what are they doing with these iPads?
exactly, it has to be depending on what teachers need, just like our Ss who also have different needs
I'm in ATL, so no worries here! Thanks for thinking of me, Christina!! 😘
NO sit and get! We would be hands-on, interactive, teachers as experts, and on the move.
I prefer PD that is differentiated as well--sitting through mandatory training that is at a very basic level isn't my cup of tea!
Yeah, I don't believe in taking them out! lol too stressful for me.
*Morning! Not ironing! DM autocorrect combined with no coffee yet!
Always make sure the teacher leaves with something they can use. If you figure this out tell me how.
Here you are! Are you staying safe with the storm coming??? https://t.co/yC4CX2ylCV
Hi Veronica! I'm waiting for mine to brew.
No local Farmer's Market to walk to where you are? too.
Most important part of PD is the follow up AFTER the PD day. Ts crave feedback related to new practice.
Does not include training from experts who don't have same Ss demographic. does include lunch and small free group time
But that wouldn't meet Common Core now will it (she says sarcastically)
good morning! Waking up a tad disappointed this morning. Been a heck of a run for the Mets.
Great PD gives me time to share ideas & best practices, in our classroom cocoons we rarely have time if we ever get it
Engaging PD is a must as well. We don't expect Ss to sit all day yet most of my PD sessions are "sit and listen".
Reply ideal day: AM planning power hour, development workshops; speaker lunch w Ts; afternoon prescheduled site visitations
Information relevant to me. Good conversation and sharing not speeches. Time to tinker and play. Laid back atmosphere. Efficiency.
This is awesome! Would love details of how you are using Twitter chats. We need to break down walls https://t.co/Gnwn4M1330
Try multiple formats! My school is offering twitter chats as a PD option in additional to online and traditional methods.
all is well here. I'm far enough away from Matthew in ATL! Thanks for the concern, Kathy! 😘
If I had my druthers, it's time to PD Smash some favorites. Ts need to explore, feel engaged, empowered. I'd start with a play date
Good morning from South Carolina! I made it today and only five minutes late this time. What is the question?
While i am a big fan of the Edcamp model, many of my teachers didn't. They wanted presenters and experts.
Yes, Edcamp style is perfect! Plus lots of chocolate throughout the day! https://t.co/LGq8C9VAHC
PD should be T-driven and should look more than an ED camp than being talked at all day!
Would love more info on how u r doing this. How is it monitored? Requirements for an implementation/sharing?
This has been our goal for the past half year - lots of work, but worth it!
I saw some tweets from yesterday that really grabbed my attention. So, here I am.
for librarians using k-12 curriculum - I think it's a great way to teach across core curric
real work occurs when there is food!
I was told yesterday that I was running our Pd on Friday. hmmmm
I've done PD leadership roll in the past...need to respond to the voices of our Ts and provide choice...collaborative inquiry.
Great summary of what a great professional development day for teachers should be https://t.co/AL8u2ofI7l
Information relevant to me. Good conversation and sharing not speeches. Time to tinker and play. Laid back atmosphere. Efficiency.
Choice and active participation, start w/an edcamp then move to an active reflect & collaboration at the end of the day
that's great, we have been trying to hook Ts with Twitter, that might be a good idea, thru PD
Healthy eating, global education, distance travelled to the market, money-I can curriculum the hell out of it.
Glad to have you! This is just the best! So supportive!
Even small things are something! https://t.co/tWcovQjRvU
Always make sure the teacher leaves with something they can use. If you figure this out tell me how.
Love this! https://t.co/BVgu5fF4Fs
Try multiple formats! My school is offering twitter chats as a PD option in additional to online and traditional methods.
I'm in! . Where do I sign up? https://t.co/qcqtPWRGWZ
Food, coffee, no talk about standardized testing, oh and coffee ! https://t.co/SGkDhyrEjD
Good morning ! You're suddenly the head of PD for your district. What does the ideal PD day include (and NOT include)?
How do you like there Common Sense curriculum?
I'm doing fine other than a small knee injury. Had a nice fall break last week and enjoyed sleeping in! How are you?
I am not head of PD, but we can all be heads of PD thanks to EdCamps. Just starting to plan & excited for free ELA PD
Perfect PD day: lots of food (and coffee), plenty of time to with colleagues, particularly those I don't see often
Why can't we do with Ts? Give them time every week to explore something they are passionate about.
They told u YESTERDAY!?!? Yikes. Got any ideas?
So far our Twitter chats have been voluntary and haven't been well received but the ones joining in, love it!
Yes, love ! This seems like another great group for some morning inspiration.
Validation of your best practices can be profound as well as a PD takeaway.
https://t.co/3sWxhHI7hs
Always make sure the teacher leaves with something they can use. If you figure this out tell me how.
So agree! Isn't it strange how much PD is just the opposite of what we want Ts to do...
Good morning. Choice and food. Hi
A scavenger hunt with iPads-finding a vendor who...taking a pic and taking pics of the 5 senses of fall for a project.
Choice! PD should be passion / interest driven. Provide options for mode of delivery as well as content
I have seen districts do this very well! https://t.co/JLfbZ01YGa
Try multiple formats! My school is offering twitter chats as a PD option in additional to online and traditional methods.
I'm envious! Should be a learning BLAST! Have fun!
We r starting our Nov. PD w/r annual Chili cook off
I agree, Ts should be getting feedback after PD we are doing personalized PD and that's our next step feedback
It's on NGSS. Idk It was a surprise to me. No one actually told me. Saw my name.
It's on NGSS. Idk It was a surprise to me. No one actually told me. Saw my name.
This!! https://t.co/1KkSWBSIor
Choice! PD should be passion / interest driven. Provide options for mode of delivery as well as content
yes, I'm fine. So far inland that there shouldn't be any effect felt here. Thanks for asking!! 😘
A great PD must include time to share ideas about how to implement the PD in the classroom. One idea never fits all.
Offer options that include self directed learning. In this day and age we need to look at how people learn in informal spaces
May be in minority here, but I'd prefer less $$ spent on food & more on PD opps. Seems like few Ts get to go to great conferences
I have reading training today and I know it's going to be sit all day 😣
if there is a message to move forward, the edcamp can have a theme. Still lots of Inquiry and choice w/ direction
agree, some Ts haven't yet found the positivity
For PD day, we often bring in wonderful food trucks from the area, we are supporting local business, and the food is amazing.
UGH!!! So NOT best practice!
I would love to have Twitter PD at school. Add that to my list.
I find myself in all these conversations about "innovative PD" They don't want that. They want 1 on 1.
This will hopefully lead to day where they create the ultimate experiences for Ss where personal/professional passions combine
agree, there are some great experts and they exist in our schools already. We just need time tap into them
And at the same time we model differentiation for Ts.
has worked v. well for me at ms & hs level, have adapted to meet needs of my Ss, Ts - interactives amazing
That's it I am switching districts! lol Great idea!
you may find come Ts become excluded this is my concern
Just like Ss. the learning will "stick" better if we have time to reflect and incorporate what we've learned.
We go a couple of times a year, in the fall and then again in the spring and compare the kinds of veg etc.,
I like that attitude. Plus we can all direct our own learning. Follow our edu passions. For me it's tech &
Amazing how wonderfully dependent we are on our spouses! 😊😊😊
Id like to try out a fedex day in my building.
and then we scratch our heads wondering why their instruction isn't changing...
Glad to hear. My in laws are near Savannah 😳😣🙏 https://t.co/5Gy0eV5VWc
yes, I'm fine. So far inland that there shouldn't be any effect felt here. Thanks for asking!! 😘
love this. Will each S have an iPad?
The ideal PD day not include a prescribed set of workshops where all learners are seen as identical in their needs.
We need to remember that we hate this but we do it to our Ss all day long. https://t.co/qMz6I2ePEc
I have reading training today and I know it's going to be sit all day 😣
So I have heard of but what is it exactly?
The Market is also a great time to practice oral communication skills. The vendors love when the kids come with good manners too.
District PD should be teacher driven. We have so many experts among us.
I've always hated this. It's like staff meetings that are really about 1 or 2 people that could have been an email.
I feel for you, but as a Cubs fan I'm absolutely terrified it's an even year and it's the Giants https://t.co/gPyZ6G7Txo
Guided Twitter chats btw two schools!! Today, I know that and middle schools are connecting via Twitter.
and then it feels like a waste...
is now trending in USA, ranking 4
Yup! No one has yet to talk to me about it.
It's so good for them especially since we are a Title I school but...
Indeed! Simply take the time to walk across the hall and watch, listen, & learn from a colleague.
I think we'll do it in pairs. They talk more that way and take way fewer pictures.
W/ PD, it's important to have meaningful follow-up. Inst. Coaches are great for this.
that is very fun! Great culture building, too!
thank you, I look forward to it!
Yes- and that the pd is connected to goals/needs of Ss and Ts https://t.co/dgy4To6Sat
Validation of your best practices can be profound as well as a PD takeaway.
https://t.co/3sWxhHI7hs
Always make sure the teacher leaves with something they can use. If you figure this out tell me how.
I find I do better with my own PD. I figure out what I need and I do my own learning. I don't count on anyone to teach me.
I'm hoping! I ran our first voluntary chat at the end of summer. Hopefully this will encourage Ts to get connected.
NGSS. I think it is mostly group work and they need a paper passer.
good luck! I'm sure you'll rock it!
Yes, so important for Ts to collaborate across grade levels and subjects - enriches everyone
You have piqued my interest. Details??
I'd love to see the letter too!
Breakout groups from the original PD that could meet and explore new ideas that also count as PD would be amazing.
teachers get 1 day to make the school better in some way. They share out after what they have built or done.
and they often blame unmotivated students when Ss are not learning !
nothing like a surprise to get the creativity flowing!
Grade 1 (insert pic of me pulling my hair out) Love you guys but immmmm.
Great topic today, considering that many of you in this chat are an impt source of much of my own personalized PD!
Interested in a idea shirt or mug? I'm putting together stuff from your tweets each week! Get them here… https://t.co/oXz5psc256
Try a Twitter challenge first, give newbies a chance to get used to the format https://t.co/awwTWq1kf8
I would love to have Twitter PD at school. Add that to my list.
welcome! You found the best PLN on Twitter!
Have a great day all. We are constantly learning whether we call it PD or not. Go to school and learn with your kids today!
In the realm of tech PD, I try to give choice, but sometimes teachers don't know what's available
Try multiple formats! My school is offering twitter chats as a PD option in additional to online and traditional methods.
AKA passion time, 20% time is where Ss are given time to truly explore something they want to know more about
So totally agree. Lose brain cells instead of gaining them.
This is awesome! we should try this https://t.co/aLNhFAf7UF
Guided Twitter chats btw two schools!! Today, I know that and middle schools are connecting via Twitter.
For at least one day eliminate the sign -in sheet. let people make have their own agency as a professional. it will do wonders.
Make PD relevant, practical and teacher-driven...backed by research...the 'soundness' element.
yes choice makes more buy in
We r doing a mini-conference style PD in Nov. 3x50 min sessions w/4-6 choices during each session all based on T input
I lead an open-ended PD in which 6th grade science teachers explored how to use resources...it was amazing!
PD needs to respect the adult learner & the experience & expertise they bring. It needs to connect to school & system priorities
I've been to all of those & they were wonderful. Will never forget diff it made going to state science conference
watch the EdCamp video on YouTube and show your admin team we are doing it at faculty meetings this year teacher choice works
Is there a hashtag? Would love to watch.
I'm beginning to think we are twins!
We have a P that allows for PLC time to be planned by Ts but needs to follow the Board stuff. I get it but not always what we need.
Good morning 🤗 Caiti from Canada checking in!! I would love a PD with lots of coffee and doughnuts 🍩
Hoping has received the inspiration she was looking for 15 minutes ago!
it goes beyond something googleable. Afterwards, a student can be the platform for sharing.
we can learn so much from each other
there's some good free PD in Warren RI next week
For me, that means PD is delivered by my peers in their field of expertise
Wow, quite the surprise! Luckily you noticed. Another common weakness in schools - communication
Oh definitely! That is why I love this group! So many like minded people!
and books!! Always books!!
All jokes aside, a PD to teach you how to use certain technology. Chrome books, Ipads, and new apps! Get us all connected 👍🏻
Why aren't they trying to engage Ts like we all need to engage Ss? . https://t.co/z6zxVXqnt1
I have reading training today and I know it's going to be sit all day 😣
A "mandatory" session should impact every Ts practice - no one wants to sit & steam when they could be learning elsewhere
honestly, I think I am just a paper pusher, but still. Ugh! Cannot make this up!
Good morning! Have not made it to the coffee stage yet. Shower first. Need a coffee maker in my master bedroom.
I definitely need to work on this. I always talk about Twitter, need to put it into action.
and if you politely declined ????
YES! PD should not be cookie cutter, nor one size fit all.
The best PD is personalized and self directed.
Would love more info on how u set it up/parameters/expectations always looking for new PD ideas!
IDK I did ask if I was getting paid. I don't mind doing it. Just a shock to see i was.
Without a doubt! Thank you for a great start to my Thursday! https://t.co/cFljfwCBi4

Twitter is my real PD. I find inspiration, books, methods, links to worlds I wasn't aware of...thanks for being part of my real PLC!
Great learning this morning at .
Now let's bring this energy to school! we can do it!
I am given time to plan and apply what was taught. Drives me crazy when I learn great strategies but am given no time to use them
hahahaha Thanks for the laugh this morning my friend!
Have a great day everyone!
More workshops with hands-on activities and group sharing! Standing is a must!
Maybe an I.V. feed? Saves time. :P
yes but how can they not ask, and give you support, ??/
Will do and I'll be on the lookout for the NJ edition.
Time for collaboration is huge. I'm sure your staff will appreciate it!
I introduced some materials the teachers were receiving, and we took time to explore ways to use them in groups.
Happy Thursday pals. Time to find something green for
agree with you, every week before PD we have a T who shares something, a strategy, so much learning
What do you think are best practices to follow up on PD?
oh dear! Are they staying put? Prayers for them!
Happens where I work too, but not to me. Anymore... https://t.co/Gld0jyZm3t
yes but how can they not ask, and give you support, ??/
And then we shared out as a whole group, and then tossed around ideas on how to piece everything together.
That MIGHT be when I'm checking twitter and doing the professional reading that I have in my reading list.
we have a successful teacher observation, we invite Ts in to see what we are doing,
Stacey and myself (& many others here also) discovered that coffee amongst Ts is a universal currency. ☕️☕️☕️☕️
A digital tools PLAYdate was one of our most successful PD sessions
Great ideas this morning. Looking for PD sessions in Jan. & April, so this has helped. Have a great Thursday!
PD includes hands-on parallel tasks. Let Ts try not be talked to. PD should not be info that an email would suffice for.
They are heading off the island (Skidaway) today. https://t.co/ZhPOmEHe2n
oh dear! Are they staying put? Prayers for them!
YES! Couldn't agree more! https://t.co/VXQTgqFyjs
Twitter is my real PD. I find inspiration, books, methods, links to worlds I wasn't aware of...thanks for being part of my real PLC!
I just want to designate an entire day to show and tell to let teachers see what is out there
T lead pd - lots of breakouts around engagement, assessment and moderated marking. We all worry about the same things!
Off to "Dig Pink" Day. Volleyball fundraiser Breast Cancer Awareness.
We came up with a really cool way to use limited resources to have a dynamic hands-on lesson ( taught over days).
Start where they are, grow from there...
Great idea! I wonder how we can do this without some Ts thinking it is "bring and brag".
Ack--needles!!! I will pass! I would settle for light outside when I wake up.
Have a great day everyone! Thanks for the giggles!
Super excited for local PD opp.
Each teacher came away with new strategies for teaching other things because of interactions with other teachers.
A suggestion - throw together an Edcamp style PD session. All u have to do is make a schedule board & Ts do the rest
Best wishes for a productive day of learning! Enjoy!
Hot tip if you're into Ed Tech follow and
or grading papers or... Rough reality for us"specials" Ts, who often need to look far afield for learning opps
Have a wonderful Thursday!
Peer observations, seeing how others implement what they learned
...and don't forget : A one question, 15 min SparkChat at 5:30 am. My daily dose of inspiration!
Oh, yeah, that would be nice again. It will be a few months before I see that again! Like 7.
💯% agree! Same as how kids feel in class. https://t.co/WsRtr9n0fC
Ideal PD include choice, multiple sessions, and a few laughs.
Bad PD: long lecture that repels engagement
THNX! I think this is the basis for my Jan. PD session!
I lead the PD, but I was not the "expert." I looked at it as if we were all "experts" working together.
thank you for the suggestions!
My county does a good job with PD. Going to a STEM academy on Mon with breakout sessions and collab time w/
Coffee for Ts should be a course in your undergrad studies. Unit 401 Caffeine in the Educational Context. 😀
You are welcome. It was pretty amazing to watch the interactions and see the ideas that we came up with.
we create stations, Ts work with whatever need the most, learning target, checking for understanding,
Sounds great! How often do you let students have ?
Thanks for the ideas. Wheels are in motion!
Have a great Friday Jr. Everyone! Thanks for the lift as always... Yeah...I made an athletic ski pun. Uh… https://t.co/6A79axadKS
Good for them! Can't be too careful with this one
great! Thanks for the idea!!
Oh my! Time to go! Have a wonderful day, everyone! Remember, YOU just might be someone's only reason they have to smile today!
oh the food! Been at many a PD that served a 'funeral-style lunch', the PD kind of followed suit!
It has become 1 of our fav events of the year. Ts love it.
Some were afraid of that at first, but the reception was good so now most like to share
and you learn so much by looking at your colleagues there is always something to learn
T G! IScary to be far away when loved ones are in danger.
yes need to get out of our bubble, see new techniques, & get excited to try something new
Guess it is building the culture like in the classroom. T egos are tough. Great idea. Imma steal it.
How great! https://t.co/Os0lodojZd

And if anyone needs some educational encouragement or know someone who does, please check out https://t.co/7zqXdvrAUT ! Thanks. :)
...Just like learning occurs in our classrooms. https://t.co/8ZtDJnhaQZ
YES! PD should not be cookie cutter, nor one size fit all.
What's the deal with ? Could somebody fill me in, because I'd like to know!
Also, admin need to be part of the PD so they can provide feedback during walk throughs
Thanks for allowing me to chime in . Happy Thursday!
agreed! Not a valuable nor productive use of time! Imagine the impact on our classroom practices if we flipped PD?
more follow up can occur during PLCs or team meetings- time for reflection
how do you check for understanding?

PD would look like my art class=choice-based project learning:research, application, discussion, reflection; repeat
. Wake up , get educated,......
I'd like to try the colleague circle as PD someday--so productive!
yes need time to digest info
Agree-PD Day in district: K-12 collegial circles of influence run asynchronously to support T growth w choice options
I ran 1 in district for 10 yrs-still in progress / K-12 Ts meeting collaboratively via eBoards, listserv responses, F2F
