#TOSAChat is a chat on Twitter every Monday night at 8pm PST for TOSAs (teachers on special assignment), including all edtech and instructional coaches.
Happy New Years everyone! Welcome to this week's #TOSAchat on setting resolutions and goals for your work in 2019!

Happy New Year TOSAchat! Kim from SoCal...Digital Learning Instructional Coach. My dogs were keeping me warm and cozy on New Year's since I was sick. Boo. #TOSAchat
What's up #tosachat! I am moderating this shindig tonight from the California Bay Area. I am a instructional technology coordinator at a coe. I have a 1 year old at home so we went to a german restuarant & celebrated german new year in the middle of the afternoon. Awesome.
Lester Dinerstein, I teach in Moreno Valley Unified. I teach English, AVID, and I work with new teachers this year. I celebrated New Years by staying home and attempting to get my daughter to bed. #TOSAchat

Eduardo! We did German new year at like 3 PM. It was awesome. Went to a German restaurant and did a countdown and everything. Baby was asleep at 7PM. LOL. #Tosachat
Q1: First off, choose a goal to explore tonight. It could be directly related your work as a coach, or about a specific challenge you face, or increasing work/life balance. Respond to one of the questions in the picture below!

Hey #TOSAChat! Karly, tech tosa and computer science teacher @SunTerrace1. Spent New Year's Eve night with some out of town friends then home to ring in the New year with my boys 😁

A1: I have been creating monthly calendars with videos, tasks, lesson ideas, etc for teachers. This month is called Swap It...like out with the old, in with the new. Feedback has been positive. It's an easy format, manageable for my Ts #TOSAchat
Happy New Year #tosachat. Joe, Elem Principal from Mtn View, CA. Excited to be with this amazing PLN. As a new parent, I spent New Years Eve asleep. Felt so good.
A1 One area of my job that I could be much better at is giving students timely and constructive feedback on their programs on computer science. #TOSAChat

A1: Something I need to work on is my own emotional regulation in this role as a principal. It’s a lonely position and comes with many many challenges. #tosachat
A1: This year I have a goal to reduce mindless screen time that lacks purpose. Reduce the amount of endless scrolling & staring at screens. If I spend an hour less time on my phone everyday, it is an hour more of life I get to lead - with my work and with my family. #tosachat
We did!!!! Jake said "I've never been so tired!" Lol. We watched Harry Potter and it ended at 11:50. Those last 10 minutes were the roughest 😂 #TOSAChat
A1: My goal this year is in line with some other projects I'm working on but I want to create a sustainable CS program for our district. #CS4All#TOSAChat
A1: One of things that I have been putting off is reading PD books like Kate Roberts A Novel Approach. I buy these amazing books and put them on the shelf swearing that I am going to read but I always find an excuse. (I have read some of them though) #TOSAchat

Q2: Write it down!
Where can you write your goal down to remind yourself of it throughout the week? How do you keep your goals front and center (even when things get super busy)?
#TOSAchat
A1: Building on success. My blog post just got published on Edumatch. https://t.co/cvouCnf2Gb. I started this blog because of #TOSAchat. Would like to submit more of my posts soon.

A2: Last year I started a Bullet Journal where I keep my analog calendar, but I also have collections that include things like goals. I try and check in with my journal every day, and so far this year I'm 7/7 days interacting with it. LOL. #TOSAchat
Q2: Write it down!

#TOSAchat
Oh awesome. I LOVE reading goals. I have a colleague that starts every workday with 10 minutes of quiet reading, and then before she leaves sits down and reads for 10 more. She says that it calms her as she transitions into and out of work mode. #tosachat
A2: I put goals on my To Do List in my phone with a daily reminder. It helps me keep them present and it hurts me to not get to check them off. It also helps me to have a person to check in regarding these. #TOSAchat
Q2: Write it down!

#TOSAchat
Maybe, I need to make time for 10 minute reading session twice a day or I could nap. LOL! In all seriousness, I might try to do that instead of just start working on whatever. #TOSAchat
Q2: I keep my goals in two places - On a post it on my medicine cabinet- I like seeing them first and last thing in the day. And on a little card in my wallet, mixed in with my credit/debit cards. Every time I pay for something, it is like a little unexpected reminder. #tosachat
Great Q. I wouldn’t say they are on their guard. A major focus has been to build a culture and tone of trust, clarity, communication, empathy, and eventual true collaboration. The staff have been through a lot in previous years & the work we’re doing now is IMPT work #tosachat
Nice. The thing that I have been doing lately is putting my phone in my desk drawer both and home and at work (instead of my pocket). I get text/phone alerts on my watch, but am not as tempted to check email and do the mindless instagram scroll when its not on me. #tosachat
Q3: Measure your growth!
Think about data that is associated with your goal.
What sort of data can you collect on your progress? When will you revisit and analyze your data to see if you are making progress toward success?
#TOSAchat

A2: My focus is something that’s clearly on my mind. I need to get back into journaling by hand though-to write it down. Need to run more too. Running helps me process & look at emotional regulation #tosachat
Sorry I never said hi. Steph here TOSA plus a lot more. :) New Years was celebrated 2 ways Noon Years Eve at the Children’s Discovery Museum & my husband woke our older two up at midnight to continue his family tradition of a midnight buffet complete with 🍣 & 🍦#TOSAchat

A3: I struggle with collecting meaningful data regarding my TOSA work. I am considering casting a smaller net and working closely with a couple sites. Spray and pray is not working for me. I am the sole tech tosa for 34 sites. #TOSAchat
A3: I could start a reading journal to keep track of the books I have read. Charting the books would give me a sense of accomplishment and I would have a record of what I read to boot. #TOSAchat
Q3: Measure your growth!
Think about data that is associated with your goal.
What sort of data can you collect on your progress? When will you revisit and analyze your data to see if you are making progress toward success?
#TOSAchat
A3: For mindless scrolling, I have begun tracking my screen time on my phone with the new apple app. The challenge is that it only keeps 7 days of data. So I take the data and keep it in a notebook. The goal is a downward trend. #tosachat
A3: 1. A goal for blogging- track my progress. 2. Connect these posts with the newsletter topics that @MrOrreBiology and I are working on. 3. connect with multiple people on campus through each blog post. Instead of only writing about me, I want to expand. #TOSAchat

I feel like that too. Is it better to focus on one site/region? Focus on just pushing one app? How do we keep PD relevant for all teachers while only reaching some. These are some of the questions I think about. #TOSAchat
I want to get to 1 per week. Since I am technically TOSA 20% this year, I want to set my goal to something that fits that time. So if I am not meeting with a teacher, I plan to use that period to blog. #TOSAchat
Well I'm not sure it it will be sharing so much as commiserating with @mandi_smithml but she's the rockstar who gives me ideas and help with everything tosa related at work. #TOSAChat
A4: I would use this as an opportunity to share my desire to expand my learning with finally reading my PD books with my Induction Teacher (1st year teacher) in hopes of starting a conversation about ongoing self-reflective through reading. #tosachat
A3: Activity log/analog date book is the best way for me to track progress. Thinking that a weekly check-in and evaluation is best. 52 chances! #TOSAchat

Some of the most successful things have come from partnering with an admin. Once admin think it's important I get more requests to help teachers with Edtech. #tosachat
A4: My List of great people to share goals and progress who keep me motivated... @cbosco15, @MrOrreBiology, @lghspeters, @tr_bo. Check in during weekly meetings, in person, chat, text, Voxer, or twitter. Also have a task sheet that is shared with some of them. #TOSAchat
A5: I am like a dog on a bone... I don't, won't, can't give up when it's for the greater good. I may have to regroup every now and then. Research, read-up, look to my tweeps. Take a new direction. #TOSAchat
A5: I have been thinking about my goals as journeys. This is an on going life goal, not something that is going to have a specific end point. I know that challenges are going to come, and that I will stumble. In those moments, I will recognize the struggle and reset. #tosachat
A5 I think the best thing to do is to recognize how much of the goal you have achieved and be grateful for that then set a new goal. I oftentimes get very overwhelmed and give up. #TOSAChat
Q6: Celebrate!
Choose a date to check in with your goal! How will you celebrate the progress you have made?
Here is a hint: Don't wait to long! Put that date on your calendar now so you can celebrate and re-engage in your goal!
#TOSAchat
A5: I need thought partners. I am my best with them. As a TOSA, Dept Chair, Teacher, Yearbook Adviser, and Mom of 3 it is so important that I model grit and perseverance. This means I need to grow my goals if I’m always meeting them. They should be a challenge. #TOSAchat
A6: Every teacher who wants to plan together, uses a lesson, or lets me teacher a lesson in his/her room is a celebration for me :) Hoping my calendar fills up! #TOSAchat
No, not really. I get inspiration for weekly spreads on Instagram, mostly. Last year I didn't really see a need for habit trackers, but I'm enjoying keeping track of habits that I'm trying to form as part of my mindfulness exercises this year. Do you also bujo? #tosachat
A5: For me, not to get upset with myself when I don't make the goal. My toddler does not want to go to sleep. I have tried talking, sitting with her, and a few other motivators. Here we are almost 9 and she is wide awake. I will just keep trying and not give up. #TOSAchat
A6: Right now I transcribe my data every week. At the end of the month I am going to graph it all and make a decision on how to move forward next. Month by month I will show growth. And I am excited about letting the plan change as the months go by. #tosachat
A6: Before I read the entire post, I was going to put May 22nd my birthday. I might follow @KarlyMoura example (Hi Karly!) and check in with myself in a month. #TOSAchat
