Wow! That's like a resort! Nice work!
A1: I think its always best to get a couple ppl that can speak to the benefit of change rather than me, ie. "early adopters".
A1: Belief comes from trust, relationships, allowing stakeholders to have a voice, transparency, and follow-through
A1 : Using your personality is key. Motivating by example & giving tangible artifacts will help others buy-in and believe!
Good Morning! Packing for my last summer adventure. Happy to stop for a few & share. Valerie from Atlanta. TL and T of littles!
A1: Participatory change. Authentic choice and voice. It can’t just b about u.
A1 Keep in mind the fact change is going to impact every member of your team differently.
Welcome Jaime, great to have you!
Good morning ! Great to see a fellow Utah educator! :)
Welcome! It's great to connect with you here on ! Always awesome conversation and learning.
A1) appeal to the intrinsic value and the shared purpose. People want to belong before they believe, no quick sales.
Good morning Sandy here from Ut 5th grade
A1- You have to believe in the change yourself. Share your vision. Ignite the same fires for others. https://t.co/QWWLSAcsr4
Q1: the change must be emotionally compelling. Sharing stories of why seems to help.
A1. Start with the why. Others must understand the necessity of the change-must have purpose and meaning.
A1: When we move toward change, the WHY stays at the center. We make ourselves uncomfortable for kids. They're counting on it!
Good morning ! Kimberly from north TX a little late.
Good morning, Heather! Glad you are here!
A1: Transparency in decision making, the "what" & "how" doesn't motivate people, purpose motivates change
A1: build culture allowing change to be a natural part of the educational process. We need to be flexible as educators to change
A1: Build trust 1st and culture where Ts are heard and responded to.
Welcome, Sonya! Great to connect here!
Right on time! Great to see you, Lisa!
Agree Steve. It does come from all the things you named!
Hey man, great to see you here!
A1. Listen to perspectives, involve others, work from a culture of trust & transparency.
A1: the change must be emotionally compelling. Sharing stories of why seems to help.
A1: make a connection to staff (or students), they need to be invested, how will it impact THEM?
want to thank this group for helping with teacher interview questions a few weeks back. They really helped me choose superstars
A1) Belief comes thru authentic experiences & sharing relevant experiences of others--seeing is believing; buy-in=hope it's true
A1 Be Passionate & Positive. Explain Why & How. Describe the Benefits. Empathise with the fear. https://t.co/uu8MyxspUh
1st & I'm @ 5% on device😰 may have to chime in later -loving the "tribe" finishing district virtual bookclub
A1: The change needs to be clear w/ the WHY along with the purpose & vision
A1: Change needs look like the idea of the last man in the team and lead from there
Always enjoy this one. Waiting for other district folk to come and join.
A1: Belief comes when educators know that those leading the initiative or project act consistently with their words.
A1) To create belief, stakeholders have to have a voice in the change and be transparent with all steps.
Morning all. High School Teacher Librarian in CA. Up with the chickens to join the fab tribe. https://t.co/hsZgFYvk1T
A1 Start with the WHY and approach from a mindset of "investment" instead of "buy-in".
Emily--Rockford, IL! Staff belief needs to start by having staff participate all initiatives! https://t.co/Ko6xDXDg1I
When people are included in process, when the why, value of a shift is transparent…it’s no longer about buy-in or implementation
A1: I Staff has to know, trust, & believe in their leader 1st. The leader has to be transparent & take staff feedback/ideas.
A1: I share withe team how it supports the school mission and supporting our students.
A1: start small, provide evidence of effectiveness. Prepare to counter those that doubt! And importantly, believe it yourself!
A1: Trust must come first, authentic relationships need to be estab & Like says, Start with the "WHY"
A1: In true transparency, people should know the "why" of change. That helps tremendously.
Yes! Change needs to be purposeful.
A1 “We are going to do it in a way we have never done before”
A1) Buy-in is created when leaders show something should be done. Belief is created when leaders show something can be achieved.
A1: It's empowerment vs engagement! Empowering others instills belief there's autonomy in their role, correlating w/ purpose.
Welcome Tianna, great to have you!
A1: Belief begins with discourse. Have candid convos w/ teacher leaders. Listen to feedback https://t.co/1mwM18Ujkk
Thanks, Jeff. Love the insights shared by so many. Thanks to all at ! https://t.co/Yb0XA1Zeke
Morning Chris! Great to see you this morning here at
A1: Ensure proposed change is something that I can do as well. Don’t expect school to change if I can’t change myself.
A1: Don't get in a hurry! Have to build up before you can gain momentum on the other side of the hill. Build it, they will come!
A1 create clear long term direction-appeal to those drivers of all involved pitch it with passion https://t.co/rXCF00q7Xw
Absolutely. That's just good leadership! Include them in the start and the rest will get in line to be a part of it.
A1: share they why and connect with mission and values
A1 One of my great mentors always says to start with QUESTIONS
A1 Change is uncomfortable so we must first find ways to make others feel comfortable with the process.
A1: Ask, How will things be if we don't change? What will happen if we do? Get the stakeholders thinking.
Good morning
Steve, from Oregon, joining.
A1: Sell the problem and utilize all voices for solutions.
Welcome Jessica, great to have you!
A1 First they need to believe you care about them as people, show that. First stepping stone to believe in your vision
A1-direction and control have to be in the hands of an empowered staff...then efforts move from buy in to core beliefs
A1 Bring stakeholders to the table with authentic partnership.
Good morning! Excited to join my first
A1. Invite others to ask questions. Expect that you will have to clarify communication. Over communicate and be patient.
A1: explain the why and take time to make sure that people truly understand it. Repeat...
People don't shift paradigms until they see their current one is flawed. Identify needs and gaps first. https://t.co/ZBtzG8lFRQ
- Yes! Transparency is key!
A1 Make the case for change incrementally, stating facts, benefits, results. Show examples of what can be done w/ believers.
A1 be transparent and engage Ts leaders - they can share the why too. Often better received from colleague than admin.
Celebrate small successes. Allow risk. Encourage people to try and fail. Change shall follow https://t.co/lamQPHPtU3
Definitely having a voice......feel invested in the process/initiative/etc.
Build a culture where stakeholders have agency in the process! Start with the WHY.
Our organizations and individuals need to see a big opportunity…and be part of creating a path towards that new reality.
A1 Ensuring there's a WHY that is understood is important to ensuring belief. Buy in is from a knee jerk implementation.
Love "value of the shift" - I think we lose sight of that sometimes as leaders & it turns to buy-in for some
A1 When implementing change, create belief by having stakeholders establish the Why thru experience, problem solve How together
A1: Create realistic and achievable goals. Be transparent about goals and CELEBRATE successes & view “bumps” as opportunities.
Absolutely. They have to see they Why...the need first.
Thank you! Excited to be here this morning!
A1: tie the change to issues that have already been identified. get help from early adopting Ts to help show pos. effects
I need to get that first cup of coffee - it's been great to connect with you this past week!
YES!!!
https://t.co/Zpl4ImJSuY
A1 Ensuring there's a WHY that is understood is important to ensuring belief. Buy in is from a knee jerk implementation.
Why......why is this important and HOW does it impact me?
Start with the why. Then discuss what needs to change. Finally collaborate on how the change should occur.
Help them understand the why behind the change & let them know they'll be supported throughout https://t.co/Y6Zf10LVMe
A1 Change is uncomfortable so we must first find ways to make others feel comfortable with the process.
Must be transparent , have a culture of trust and learning
A1 start small, if possible. Find the few people on the cusp of change and support!
Thank you, ! Love hearing ideas from everyone.
"Lurking is learning" - glad you could join us!
Celebration is key to success.
A1 Showing how it'll affect our Ss in a positive way, share your passion for change, let Ts be a part of it
A1: Also, if you promote change as a positive or a way to grow, it doesnt feel quite as threatening. Dont frame it as a negative
Transparency goes a long way in many situations. Creates a shared understanding vs lead/follow scenario https://t.co/qRmwfCbvZW
A1: Transparency in decision making, the "what" & "how" doesn't motivate people, purpose motivates change
A1: Belief vs buy-in--Love! SUCCESs model helps you create a message that inspires others to action. https://t.co/Kj1xHtBVeB
Good Morning! Tamekia admin from KC
A1- Explain the why and ask your people for feedback. We need to care about the why before we blindly follow.
A1: meet people where they are, do not try and rush the process
the "why" is huge-if we don't know this we only get compliance https://t.co/QcQ1qbBYVa
A1 Start with the WHY and approach from a mindset of "investment" instead of "buy-in".
Good point. If the leader isn't open to change & established that in the culture, belief is difficult
This thought is always the heart of change. "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it" Sinek https://t.co/buVeiIIWXd
A1: Transparency in decision making, the "what" & "how" doesn't motivate people, purpose motivates change
I love the idea of asking questions - it also models the practice for T's to use in with Ss!
A1 If relationships are strong, belief will come more easily. All change must contribute to what's best for kids.
Great visual for this question! Definite filters in this!
Same...my APUSH students get tired of me writing WHY and HOW on their papers...lol!
A1: allow ideas and implementation to come from others. Value the talent of those around us.
We couldn't agree more. The group capital always explodes with you apart https://t.co/W8U1t1uYIg
Good morning to everyone!! It's time for . On coffee number 2 after productive morning so far. 'Bout to get even better. :)
A1: w/individual conversations that help us understand the why? Nourish individual conversation. https://t.co/lmwWvGgQ1U
YES - and celebrate “failures” as opportunities as learning and opportunities to become stronger. https://t.co/KL2sTLTDVP
Celebration is key to success.
A1. Showing proof that it works. Using data to get others onboard. Inviting questions.
A1 Belief has to do with relationships.
Buy-in is about programs or initiatives.
Focus on relationships.
A1: Being different is a good thing...break the mold because we make ourselves better for kids. https://t.co/XIjQHvAK26
Yes. Buy-in is admitting that you didn’t show people the real value or include them in the process.
A1: Change implies a shift for improvement, innovation..identify your connectedness to the 'new' territory & convey that message
A1. Establish a PURPOSE for the Change!
Lindsey - has been a game-changer for me!
A1. As people are gaining understanding: check in, ask for feedback & monitor/adjust. Work towards ownership of the work.
Everything needs to come back to what is best for kids. Always. https://t.co/zR5NIRCk9L
A1 If relationships are strong, belief will come more easily. All change must contribute to what's best for kids.
A1. Discussing what may happen if change doesn't occur can be a powerful strategy used to help others believe in the change.
Truth!! We must honestly listen to the feedback. Hurts when we ask for it but ignore. https://t.co/gFTa0C35TH
A1- Explain the why and ask your people for feedback. We need to care about the why before we blindly follow.
great to have you with the tribe today Marci! Thought leaders at work!
A1 inspire w/ best practice literature- remove blinders show what is possible. They don't know what they don't know- then build
Celebrating the small wins ensures momentum keeps moving forward https://t.co/1yXKb5t9cK
A1: start small, provide evidence of effectiveness. Prepare to counter those that doubt! And importantly, believe it yourself!
A1: Everyone needs to see the why, how it connects to them & students, and have their voice included. Ownership over the change.
I like Over Communicate - using different methods too. https://t.co/RA45uZRWBJ
A1. Invite others to ask questions. Expect that you will have to clarify communication. Over communicate and be patient.
A1 - Be a model of the very change you are attempting to implement. Lead by example.
A1 Like the great says: First talk about what is not gong to change!
Great to see you, Jessica! I love 's work!
A2: Keep your ear to the ground and listen. That will help u learn how the change is affecting people around u
A1 A1 build relationships 1st then share WHY, what, and how. Share beliefs and vision.
Totally ! Always start with the WHY.
A1 recognize can't implement change or create belief. Change activated in environment empowers others to act on beliefs
A1: Go talk to people face-to-face. Get the pulse of your people and answer questions with your leaders.
A1: You have to make it relevant and purposeful. Not just another change for the sake of changing. Believe in it yourself.
A1: Belief comes after the buy-in when sound and research-based practices make a positive & lasting difference. Lead by example.
Yes! Those hesitant to change are more likely to come around after they see the "Proof in the pudding"!
And compliance leads us down a road of destruction. https://t.co/RPEH7m0a2J
the "why" is huge-if we don't know this we only get compliance https://t.co/QcQ1qbBYVa
A1 Start with the WHY and approach from a mindset of "investment" instead of "buy-in".
A1: Having a culture of collaboration, support & trust, risk taking in place prior to change process.
A1: people buy into projects and new ideas when leaders first explain the goals and then lead with compassion and energy.
Change is sustainable when it's part of a common/shared vision that all constituent groups see as a chance to be better.
Hey man great to see you here!
knowing that you are heard - not just lip service heard A1
If people believe in you, they are more likely to follow (buy-in) to your programs and actions. Well said.
A1: If we allow Ts to weigh-in we struggle less with the buy-in
Clarity is key in their understandings of they can follow through with expectations. https://t.co/uutYJtq7Sq
A1: explain the why and take time to make sure that people truly understand it. Repeat...
YES! Ts are NOT alone - we are all in this together, growing and learning https://t.co/OJDeFMWYpJ
Help them understand the why behind the change & let them know they'll be supported throughout https://t.co/Y6Zf10LVMe
A1 Change is uncomfortable so we must first find ways to make others feel comfortable with the process.
Good morning - Rex, Principal from Winnipeg, dropping in on a rainy Saturday.
Seeing a pattern this morning in ! Start with the WHY!
Hate hearing, "How do we get buy-in?" If it's not a culture of change & doing what's best, it will not be belief
***Q2 Coming up in 1 minute...
Run to that coffee, Neil! :) I dig and respect your leadership and how you share/connect communities.
A1: Don't just mode the work...live it
Agree - when stakeholders see change as a solution to problems they've identified, they feel motivated to try
THIS! https://t.co/jlMRJ1rARo
A1 Belief has to do with relationships.
Buy-in is about programs or initiatives.
Focus on relationships.
Change can only happen when the organization is built on positive relationships rooted in trust & respect!
We have to work to help others really understand the need for change. Then we can move past buy in and into commitment.
It was a focus of my dissertation. I see that book everywhere.
A1 Relationships are key. I believe in people who I have a connection with. I am more comfy challenging those I relate with.
A1: Transparency in our own struggles is huge...and making room for others to share theirs. We struggle together, grow together.
Great point. It's important to look down the road you're on and ask if that's where you want to be going https://t.co/VhLYGRq6yM
A1. Discussing what may happen if change doesn't occur can be a powerful strategy used to help others believe in the change.
A1: being honest, sincere and transparent
Chad Lensman - Assistant Elementary Principal, Graham Local Schools, stopping in.
Welcome Sara, great to have you!
What advice would you give to us (a non-profit) about having candid convos with teachers? Twitter is limiting.
Thaks, John. I completely agree.
https://t.co/uTQ0TVDCdU
A1: Having a culture of collaboration, support & trust, risk taking in place prior to change process.
Plenty of water. I stay hydrated!!! https://t.co/G5Dj8hrVjI
Welcome, Daniel! Don't know where you get the energy! You are everywhere!
Trust is so important i cannot work in an environment that is riddled with suspicion.
something like that. Kind of a curse.
Thanks tons! Glad to be here!
No such thing as too much communication https://t.co/GZ5CsQUtR6
I like Over Communicate - using different methods too. https://t.co/RA45uZRWBJ
A1. Invite others to ask questions. Expect that you will have to clarify communication. Over communicate and be patient.
Great point. No input, no commitment. One of the first rules of implementing change. https://t.co/rLQHydlK1Q
A1: If we allow Ts to weigh-in we struggle less with the buy-in
Agree! Compliance sucks the energy out of innovative and creative thinking!
We seem to think people ‘resist’ change, but we change everyday. We resist what we don’t know, understand, or it done to us.
A1: honest discussion of what we want for our kids and what it takes from us! Realizations a the first step in belief!
Hey man, great word on vision! From a leader who’s practice matches belief!
Awwww~Good morning friend!
Good Morning . Jumping in late. Leigh, from MO. HS Asst. AP. Super excited to learn & grow
A1: Collaborative Culture means COLLABORATIVE culture. Changes are where you get to walk the talk.
A1: Don't just model the work...live it
. Tired eyes first read "remove binders". YES Remove Blinders AND Remove Binders. We have enough of both.
And relationships must b developed prior to asking people to change. Too late 2 develop as your asking. https://t.co/I4iOts8w5U
A1 Relationships are key. I believe in people who I have a connection with. I am more comfy challenging those I relate with.
We all love the good doctor
A1 Belief is about having a shared purpose. Buy-in requires persuasion to change minds about something we are doing wrong
truly be willing to listen. Don't just wait for your turn to talk.
Word. https://t.co/EMTvLRo1w5
Change can only happen when the organization is built on positive relationships rooted in trust & respect!
A2: What can make the biggest impact right now for Ss achievement?
So true! We question change when we don't see the problem. Identifying the flaw is crucial. https://t.co/J9zoVfSFLw
People don't shift paradigms until they see their current one is flawed. Identify needs and gaps first. https://t.co/ZBtzG8lFRQ
A1
Belief = you hve a voice in the decision making process.
Buy-In = someone else developed the idea & they are convincing you.
A2: I always ask, "How does this support students." That is your first priority. ALWAYS. If it doesn't help students, why do it?
Celebrating failures. That is the most difficult thing for most of us! https://t.co/dyXZvulBfa
YES - and celebrate “failures” as opportunities as learning and opportunities to become stronger. https://t.co/KL2sTLTDVP
Celebration is key to success.
So true - in debating problems & brainstorming answers, the need for change becomes clear https://t.co/xX5818Kcpj
A1 One of my great mentors always says to start with QUESTIONS
I agree. Sense of security is so important these days. Encourage rootedness by showing people u care about them
Compliance is the wrong focus, wrong direction, wrong outcome!
A2. It all comes down to the building and district goals.
A2. Data & face-to-face conversations w/ stake-holders -Ts, Ss, families. Those who will move the work forward must be involved.
People buy in to ideas, but commit to others. Real change agents are masters at building strong relationships.
A1: Any change should be for a reason that the team understands; belief before compliance = engagement.
A2: What's best for Students?
A2: Will it impact students? How will it impact students? Students should be top priority.
Something like, "We are awesome! How can we build on that awesomeness?" Maybe?
Too often we focus on having people ‘do’ different, without ever getting to ‘think’ different. There’s no mindshift
& I will be at your district's PD event in August. Hopefully we can meet up
A2: The students... they are the reason we're there.
A2: alignment to goals. sphere of influence in the priority. Key players. So many things, guess that makes it a good question.
I see the biggest resistance when Ts feel it is being done to them.
A2: What will impact our kids the most? What is best for them in this moment?
A2) Kid first attitude should be our number 1 factor when prioritizing decisions.
Before people can buy into your vision ... they have to first buy into you.
A2: This is an excellent question!
Agree. The culture makes a big difference.
A1: Always start w/ the why behind any idea, initiative, or shift in pedagogy, etc.; I think would agree!
Excited to be here! I absolutely love his work as well! I learn something new ea time I read it!
A2. What is a pressing need for Ss? Why is it a pressing need for Ss? Thats how we should prioritize.
A2 Is it aligned with your CORE values which are different than permission-to-play & aspirational values
A2) Factors? Which priorities ultimately impact our Ss, our kids, the most?
you've got to risk it to get the biscuit https://t.co/zuJY51tUl4
A1: Having a culture of collaboration, support & trust, risk taking in place prior to change process.
Having some connectivity issues here this morning. Will be in and out as connections permit! 😢
Heres research-based model /w citations that is more informative for admin in change process. https://t.co/k0kKtb2iUs
Change is actually not easier but possible in an organisation built on positive relationships https://t.co/tBJeC6ah6g
Change can only happen when the organization is built on positive relationships rooted in trust & respect!
A2: Will it impact the vision/mission/goals (which should focus on students)? How will it?
A1 Anticipate the discomfort and be proactive with solutions to the discomfort Ts or others may feel.
A2 What is best for kids!
A2 - We have to look at what our students need. Academic, social/emotional, environmental, cultural...data will show need.
A2) The first thing that must be considered is the benefit to students. Pursue what impacts them most. https://t.co/RVyt5zvJ8G
A2: Factors: What's best for our kids emotionally? What's best for our kids academically? What's best for our kids socially?
A2-I plan to begin asking parents and students in addition to listening to T...then make collaborative decisions
I'm looking forward to the conference!
A2: 1-do they involve legal issues; 2- do they impact Ss!
A2 consider stu needs and data when prioritizing
Yes! It will be a great day of PD. I would love to meet up!
We need to have all educators understand this - why can't we change our methods like we change clothes? https://t.co/eOCXLtNJ6v
We seem to think people ‘resist’ change, but we change everyday. We resist what we don’t know, understand, or it done to us.
A2 Filter- Is this what is best for kids? Will this empower them with their own learning?
A1 Echoing others, I'm all for vivid why's as change drivers. Possible for more than 1 why to stoke common change? Listen well.
A2: Ask: How does this fit into our FOCUS as a district/campus? If not, throw it out!! Aim small, miss small. Know thyself!!
Agreed, and that doesn't include just academic achievement. Must have a broad view of achieving. https://t.co/4QFMHy8eWh
A2: What can make the biggest impact right now for Ss achievement?
thank you!!! PLN at work...love it!!!
A2 immediate or future/strategic - student impact, curriculum/compliance requirement, long term goal https://t.co/cCHZfLn9a9
A1: People want to be apart of a greater calling. Create a culture where you leave the place of work better than you found it!
A2 - How will it help our Ss grow socially and academically?
A2) Will this be a win for our learning community? Two huge considerations are feasibility and impact.
Yes & can we sustain it long term-need to know these changes last-fads often burn out quickly https://t.co/Mo2VZCXlSM
A2: What can make the biggest impact right now for Ss achievement?
Q2: You need put kids & families 1st. Always. If u r only thinking about adults/staff/etc., something is off. Prioritize kids.
Absolutely! It is always said, but student needs trump adult wants...
A1: To create BElief, BE w/your teachers, your students on the journey. Start w/your WHY, create shared vision/goals, then go DO
A2: Student Needs, Budget, Long-Range Plan or Board Priorities, State Mandates, and Other Needs (Note: This can become reactive)
A1. Always have to start with the "WHY" & engage all stakeholders in answering to norm in a direction. https://t.co/iKxbPEUR0v
A2 - Mission and vision aligned with goals and objectives. Hopefully all in the best interest of your organization!
A1: positive relationships & personal conversations go along way when trying to build buy in in new ideas
Yes. It demonstrates our passion for what we are doing. Recognized by others watching us.
A2: Using the kid filter instead of the adult filter will help bring the priority to the surface. Everything else sifts through!
I agree, especially in our district where there has been a huge turnover at the top (admin & school board).
A1 Always include someone on the team that is resistant. Nurture their belief first!
Great point. Completely agree.
Yes, & I ask "does this truly align with our philosophy?" It's easy to get sidetracked https://t.co/nGM8iBDZB2
A2: I always ask, "How does this support students." That is your first priority. ALWAYS. If it doesn't help students, why do it?
A2: How will it impact student learning & achievement? Our students MUST be at the center
teachers have the largest impact on student achievement
Especially in our classroom--are Ss simply following commands or involved in authentic opportunities?
A2: Student need should be the driving force in all decisions
A2. We must always consider the significance of impact. More potential for impact, higher the priority. High yield efforts 1st!
A2. One of the best pieces of advice I heard as a new principal- "Lead by the need." What are the primary needs @ your school?
Hey Celeste here joining in this morning!
A2: I see many of us are saying the students, but how often is the change done for what is best for us?
A2: Priorities that align with our district mission and shared vision are most important and trump all others!
A2 The status of your faculty. It depends on where a school is along the continuum of change.
Exactly. Schools need to have a "think different" mentality. It will spread to Ss, Ts & community. Belief grows
We can hear a lot of you talking about the "why" of change. Thought this image would be helpful :) https://t.co/wEqQnFuKO5
A2: Does it create safe, secure, comfortable learning environment?
A2: What is the impact on student achievement and how does it support the mission/vision?
A2: "How does this impact kids!"
A2: What will have the biggest impact for our students? It should begin and end with that conversation.
Ask this when you are planning for change! Ask it together as a school! https://t.co/TKLdi99LeQ
A2: What will impact our kids the most? What is best for them in this moment?
A2: Determine the areas with the biggest value add for students
Family involvement is super important!
A2 Most will align priorities with what will do the most personal good. Great leaders will put the greater good first.
Yes! You could also add...how will Ss experience this new change? https://t.co/8UW6ghE50N
A2 Filter- Is this what is best for kids? Will this empower them with their own learning?
Totally agree with what you say about Tony. He both models and lives his beliefs.
Which is essential to making change work!
A2 Do you have a strong community to help you filter big decisions? PPL that can help you stay on track?
Love this visual! Where is it from?
A2: hard because, from different points of view, programs are for the benefit of Ss. Not diabolical admins thwarting edu.
A2 Does it produce student success or is "another" thing for teachers to accomplish.
A2 The one question that SHOULD be asked? Is this for the kids? Period.
A2: be OK with education looking different than when we went to school and open to trying new things.
Great point! Knowing how to leveraging the strength of the team matters!
exactly-student voice more than voting on which color uniform or menu item-about input in curriculum https://t.co/BbIwaPYOUV
Especially in our classroom--are Ss simply following commands or involved in authentic opportunities?
A2: Ensuring that mission & vision are being supported, student needs AND what is the prob of SUSTAINABILITY?
A2 Cost - Can we afford it? Resources- Can we use what we already have?
A2: Sometimes its factors beyond our control i.e. parent involvement, SES, even health but they must be addressed.
A2: Simple - all decisions are based on what's best for children - stop over complicating it!
A2 Does it support the mission, align with strategic goals, and is it relevant at this time?
If you don’t deeply understand the ‘why’ and adaptive challenges necessitating a shift…you’re not asking the right questions.
Great phrase Lead by the Need! https://t.co/0eVKfFJ3ag
A2. One of the best pieces of advice I heard as a new principal- "Lead by the need." What are the primary needs @ your school?
A2: Start w/ our most valuable stakeholders=Ss! What is best for our Ss? What kind of impact will this have on our Ss? Etc.
A2: Empathy is important. Looking thru the eyes of others 2 gain perspective 4 actions.
Trust the feedback of your superstar teachers ... cause they are ALWAYS looking out for kids. https://t.co/rVI5QC4hj1
A2: What do our students need to be successful? Order based on impact.
Absolutely! It's easier to say no when other things get in the way.
A2. We have to consider the ROI. If there is a possibility to get an exponential ROI, it must be at the top of our priority list
Yes! https://t.co/aTwBWUHp2N
A2: What will have the biggest impact for our students? It should begin and end with that conversation.
A2: new ideas should be prioritized and implemented according to what can be used to benefit kids tomorrow.
It is from the book Made to Stick by Chip Heath and Dan Heath
A2 Prioritize based on relevant data, anecdotal evidence and end goal. It is not how you get their that matters, just get there.
YES! Data is the separator - it doesn't lie!
A2: We need to consider which are most centered on the needs of our students in order for them to excel in all areas.
I also think that communicating my vision effectively can help new people "buy-in" to me as authentic & all about kids
and leads to luke warm implementation of change, often = failure
A2: Values and Goals. Prioritizing builds the infrastructure.
Let us begin by valuing Ss - what they know & the way they know & use these as vehicles to new learning https://t.co/gf7TPNOf6N
Most people look for what is in it for them if there is change! Make that part sound 'useful' and 'clear'
A2: district & school goals along w/ the culture. Too often, it is based on what is tested or how Ts are evaluated
Data is too often left out of the picture.
A2: Need to look at needs of stakeholders, and balance new initiatives w/ those that meet the needs of your community.
Good morning Joe, math & STEM coach awake early on a Sat from CA.
A2.1: Prioritize based on where you are, must determine the next step needed for change - Change is methodical, not over night
A2: urgency and importance: Covey's 4 quadrants
A2 I think one of the factors is knowing the needs of the school and the job that has to be done and not leave the path
Thanks! - Summer is getting shorter and my reading list is getting longer.
Too many "one trick pony" initiatives have hurt education! https://t.co/2f9mi7gWK0
A2: Ensuring that mission & vision are being supported, student needs AND what is the prob of SUSTAINABILITY?
I'm willing to find $ if I believe it is truly needed - especially if we are spending $ on things that don't matter
TV off this morning. Too many negative stories about what's happening in the world and now hearing so many positive ideas!
In what ways do you think adult priorities get in the way of the kids (intentionally or unintentionally)
A2 Greatest student engagement has to be #1. If it's not about the students ... forget about it https://t.co/WSFeuPSv3O
A2 Team, Talent, Data (where are we?)==>Targets==>milestone(s) to unify and restage as necessary https://t.co/S7ff9vEdPH
great point! Collaboration is based on belief that we all have a stake in it and a say in it
If priorities of this shift are not transparent…there’s usually not a deep understanding of ‘why’ we’re doing this. Rethink…
What do Ss need? What aligns with vision, mission, goals? What does data sayachievement, feedback, demo https://t.co/Ep6FDYeFN0
Yes. Also recognize that we can't stay the same. Being able to change is important 4world we presently live in.
Absolutely. You it's not just about feelings.
YES! And, I want my superstars to be real with me - don't just tell me what I want to hear.

"Stop over complicating it!" Keep it simple and to the point. Love it! https://t.co/dbN9T8MByR
A2: Simple - all decisions are based on what's best for children - stop over complicating it!

A principal told me recently - One thing he focuses on always is to build trust and changing something in d school becomes easy
Todd from NY-HS assistant principal jumping in for a bit. Good morning!
A2 Is this moving us forward? Ts, Ss, community etc.
Also means we don't shoot down ideas at first glance-take time to discuss-true collaboration is messy https://t.co/l3GeAV6x6k
A1: Collaborative Culture means COLLABORATIVE culture. Changes are where you get to walk the talk.
Prioritizing requires us to focus on the quality of concepts not the quantity of concepts we execute. Quality trumps quantity
Q3:Your priorities should make the biggest impact. How do you measure the impact of your priorities? https://t.co/WuM5FbKYdi
Tests and T evaluations are often a waist of time with how the info is handled.

I know, right!! One of the side effects of ...more book recommendations than we can get to! :)
A2: those that have the biggest impact in others and where your time is bound to be spent.
A3. Priorities spin by so fast as we too often have more than we can effectively manage. This is the life of a principal.
A2. Just like students, our staff and community need to know what we are working towards, why, and the plan!
Well I am very honored you feel that way, as I think so highly of you and what you do in education!
Such a hard situation when a shared vision and goal was never laid as groundwork.
A3: Impact of priorities can be measured by how many others are affected by your actions (or lack thereof).
