Depends on gameplan, but inside zone always gives a good feel, especially since defense may come out in new formation, and can set the tone with OLine. But if I have a mismatch in secondary I'm all for taking a shot and making them nervous. #HogFbChat
Q1: Remember we once started a game running wedge 3 times in a row for two firsts downs. Otherwise how can you go wrong with power, iso, or belly. #hogfbchat
A1 IZ or Power want to set the tone with a good hard downhill run. Also on the flip side will call a shot PA route to open game sometimes as well #hogfbchat
A1) We running Power 1st play every game, scrimmage, inside run drill, everything. It's the ultimate test of a man when it comes to football. You know the play, but can you stop it is the motto.
#HogfbChat
A1. I want to set the tone by running the ball!! Knock somebody off the ball first play of the ballgame. Most offensive lineman like to run first! #Hogfbchat
A1 if we want to set the tone of physical superiority its power G, if its just show um a dose of what to expect all night it is mid-line or inside veer to an open gap #hogfbchat
A1 I like IZ. Feel like it should be an attitude play that we can hang our hats on and know we’re going to be efficient with it while bringing physicality #Hogfbchat
Depends on the day. Sometimes I like to chuck it deep. Sometimes it's a simple zone read just to see how their ends are going play the backside. #hogfbchat
A1: We play in a league where there aren't a lot of teams that do what we do (Spread no huddle) so we don't always get good tape to gameplan from. I like to start off with 3x1 zone read with a key screen, followed by the same out of 2x2 to see how they will line up. #Hogfbchat
A1: Go to our bread-and-butter run play. Kids have confidence in it. I don't care if the other team knows it. Show me you can stop it. Either way, it's gonna be a long night for your defense. #hogfbchat
A1 I'm going to get booed for not saying power, but we are a jet sweep team & it sets up everything we do so gotta go outside zone. Make the big dudes run sideline to sideline, then pound them downhill #hogfbchat
A1: Something we can execute well, and something our guys know inside and out, and are comfortable running it vs any front. Power or Zone right at you! #hogfbchat
A1) depends on the opponent and our kids mindset going in. If we need to establish physicality probably duo or power. If we need to loosen up or a quick momentum gain then a shot or trickplay. #hogfbchat
A1. We are going IZ split zone! I want to see how they react to H’s wham or swipe block, and see if we have boot off of it later. It’s also a power run play. #hogfbchat
A1: Depends on what we see on film and what you have shown tendency in previous weeks. I love opening w play action. Usually know what first play is gonna be by Sunday afternoon lol #Hogfbchat
A1) I like to go as fast as possible. So get up there and see what they’re in and run it or quick game so we can get to ball faster on play 2 then move down the field and score fast... DC dont like me. #hogfbchat
A1: IZ- should be a rhythm play that gives you a chance to see if what you saw on film stands true as far as front, accelerators (penetrator, plug, pursue & pin) #hogfbchat
A1 cont: Inside zone with a key screen is the first play we install during camp. it is our bread and butter play. Don't get me wrong, we love to run power too but zone read is what our whole scheme is based on. 6 yards and a vapor trail baby! #Hogfbchat
A1: I’m a big trap fan... we have a couple different ways we run it.. if you get a good trap on the end or 3tech they’ll be thinking about that the rest of the game #Hogfbchat
A1) Always been a fan of the trick play/ screen / PA deep ball on the first play. Defense is usually jacked up, especially after the opening kickoff. I like to use that to our advantage #hogfbchat
A1: I usually either go with our best Run play, or some sort of shot. Some years it is power, some it is OZ. Play Action pass is a great way to start a game because D is all jacked up #hogfbchat
A1: Inside Zone. That's my baby. I know I love to throw the ball, but if I can run inside zone all game then Ill do it. #hogfbchathttps://t.co/T48sKR7EEz
A1: If I’m facing an aggressive defense I want to call a play to test the defense or if I want to set the tone physically I want to go right at the other team with our best run. I want to take what the defense is going to give us and set us up to be successful #hogfbchat
Throwing it in here for connection/network purposes...always looking for good coaches for my staff now and in future. if you know anyone in Sonoma County, CA that wants to coach, please connect us! #hogfbchat
A2 can do this a few ways set up a few groups and rapid fire between them. Or break up by position and concentrate on specific skills for certain plays ex. Gs pull on power C block Back G,T Deuce Blocks #hogfbchat
A2) I don’t coach OL but I have been around some of the best in the game. They do a fine job of incorporating as many bodies as possible during drills. They also balance work & rest. #hogfbchat
A2-Started doing one line instead of 3 or 4 but rapid fire with new guys in every rep. So if we are hitting bags we have three in rotation. More one on one coaching with same amount of time. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: All about positioning of coach and pace of drill. EX: don’t stand in front of group during stance. Stand to 1 side so you can view everyone at all times. Also, if lucky enough, get your drill work filmed and you can coach off the film after if group is too big. #Hogfbchat
A2: We started practicing as a program, and it let us have at least 2 coaches with the OL; helps a lot. Otherwise, 2 groups running same drill and just rapid fire back and forth.
#hogfbchat
I'm instituting a "teach" period after practice for guys that need more reps at slower pace. They'll stay extra 1/2hr to go through specific skill-acquisition movements. In practice, I want coaches to practice brevity in their communication. Say what you need to say! #hogfbchat
A2: We try to pre-install drills and walk through them in prepractice. Explain to the kids why we are doing them and it really helps speed things up. #hogfbchat
Hopefully there’s at least 2-3 line coaches there and you can break into groups. Either young guys/old guys or guards/centers and tackles. Worked well for me and @CoachRmcD60 to make the most of the time we had #hogfbchat
A1: I try to set up as many groups that I can to get through the drill. I’m lucky to have another guy coaching with me. I’ll also split my guards/centers and tackles. #hogfbchat
A2. If it’s a team drill we make sure we have multiple units ready to jump in as soon as the previous one is done. Have also done a rotation of drills when we had enough line coaches to do so. #hogfbchat
groups of 2 or 3 and focus most of my attention on the starters. Otherwise we have a freshman coach who drops by before and after their season. I increase my time with starters by working with them pre and post practice. #hogfbchat
A2: Use drills with multiple kids/rows going at a time. Teach them the transition between reps, and between drills to cut down on dead time. Can also split up into small groups or "pods" by position and work drills. No need for drills with only one kid moving at a time #hogfbchat
Prepicked drill groups. 1’s with 1’s 2’s with 2’s and so on. Predetermined like teams picked before PE class. That way they all know who they’re working with. Have 6 guys on a first team/2nd team etc. When it’s 2 on 2 work they have 3 groups per “team”#hogfbchat
A2: Less than 400 in the school for us so having too many kids has never been a problem. If we had too many I'd probably say do stations or half line stuff or multiple lines ready to roll. I dunno. #hogfbchat
A2: We try to maximize the number of groups, and have the players help coach their line. Put the ownership back on them. Makes the leaders lead and the young guys talk. Players will coach in front and behind in their lines. #hogfbchat
A2 We have about 30+ OL each year, an split into two groups each with a coach but when alone, alternate between a high tempo drill that works endurance (cut popup to backer or backside tracks) and a slower more technical drill. spread um out 5 going @ a Time #hogfbchat
A2) It helps that we have two OL coaches so we can split up like C/G go with a coach & T/TE go w/ the other. Also I will set up R & L side so we can hit each side right after the other #hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat A1Q1
Dive on set...
Don’t think just impose will and drive straight ahead.
If we can get a good push and put a little doubt into the heads of the defense, it can be a real tone setter for high schoolers.
A2: split into position groups like Tackles/TE and C/G or space a group out into 2-3 groups and go group 1 rep, group 2 rep etc. not a lot of time is wasted though if you tempo everything you do, constantly moving #hogfbchat
A2: definitely looking to work on this. Need to find 2-3 drills for both run and pass that we can do as part of pre-practice. Chute walks, mirror drills, sled, etc. that way we can get specific during our Indy time during practice #hogfbchat
Footwork/birddog is done in grids. Other fundamental drills we split group. Either 1/2 and 1/2 then flip or by position depending on the drill. Almost always have 2-3 drills going at once. If you have the coaches, put them to work #hogfbchat
A2. If you can mirror your drills you can increase reps. You have to have a clear idea of what the drill "should look like" in your mind so you can correct either side even though it's opposing direction. Takes a good angle and a sharp eye to do it well. #Hogfbchat
A2. Really fortunate to work at school that puts a premium on OL play. We have TWO OL coaches. We’ll split L-R or Y&T-C&G work various sets, steps combos so each kid gets focus and correction without someone getting lost in the shuffle. #hogfbchat
This is a fantastic idea! I’ve stayed after with dudes as let them work. But never thought about making it mandatory for players that don’t eat reps. #hogfbchat
A) sled, and most indy stuff is so fast there are no lines or waiting. Inside run period and pass pro/blitz period....my ones get most of those reps. #hogfbchat
A2: cont. we also try to have scout team defense play the position that’s blocking them on offense example: when we run trap, the 3 tech is the backup pulling guard. Then they can switch. You get mental reps and physical reps. #HOGFBCHAT
A2) When teaching outside zone we all work mirror drill with a partner, every offensive lineman is reaching for the opposite guys outside shoulder forcing them to drive each other.
We also line up 2 full lines and run exact plays with 1s and 2s so everyone learns.
#hogfbchat
A2 Kids work in Partners for almost everything except combos. For combos I call it dbl team quadrant. I'm in the middle and players are in four groups surrounding me. I simply rotate in the same spot to view all. #hogfbchat
A2: Heard this from a coach. Structure your drills with what you do to maximize your time. When I had larger groups I would go back and forth to multiple groups. Quality over quantity but if you have multiple coaches working quality and quantity is always better. #hogfbchat
A2: once technique is solid, I like drills where 5 go at a time. Quick reps vs shields, med balls, and sled. A nice problem to have! I need more of that problem! #Hogfbchat
A2: If we have enough coaches, stations. That has been an issue the last couple years - I've been the only full time OL, so I try to have more lines, run what I call "Machine Gun Tempo"... #hogfbchat
A2) I do A LOT of teaching in the spring so when we get to real practice then know what I want/ need and then at practice I do a lot of quick hitting 1 on 1 drills or a mass (everyone is getting a rep) drills. #hogfbchat
A2. Multiple stations of the drill, group in front group behind me so just turn after each rep for next group, pulling drills will set up left side right side and they switch sides after each rep, of course with if you have 2-3 ol coaches it helps to #hogfbchat
A2: most drills we will go 1at a time rapid fire so I can focus on each guys rep gotta move quick but not rush 2 get through everything.. pass indy I split the guys up most days guards and centers and then tackles on their own try to have a common focus for both groups #hogfbchat
A2 Depends on the drill purpose. Plays on air, paint a grid box. Plays on barrels, detailed rotations. In the end.... more than three full groups can get tricky. Some drills I want full recovery between. #hogfbchat
A2: I don’t have a ton of numbers but anytime JV & V together or in Camp I’m detailed down to the minute what we’re doing in Indi and will Work two groups where I can #HogFBChat
A2. Depends on when we are trying to achieve with the drills. When going through speed and agility drills I like to set up like circuits stations. That way we are grindin out the drills for a certain period of time and rotate them through. #hogfbchat
A2: never coached OL Individual a day in my life so I can’t pretend like I’ve been there. But our OL coach does a good job of getting multiple guys engaging in their steps under the chute.
#HogFbChat
Add an extra bag holder to to each rep line to eliminate exchange time; set up drills to have 2 sets of reps going in opposite directions, both starting/stopping on same count #Hogfbchat
A2: as many leveled groups as possible. I don't need lower JV RT getting reps with my varsity RG. Plus I generally structure my staff to have atleast 2 coaches on OL. #hogfbchat
A2 contd) Also it will speed up set up time if you give a name to drills that you use most often so instead of having to tell everyone where to line up and what steps to take just say “Clemson Drill” or “Reach Drill” now everyone is one same page #hogfbchat
A2: break them up into separate groups and constantly moving around the drills to observe at different angles. Also coach on the fly to keep the groups moving #hogfbchat
A2: If I have multiple coaches, I'll assign a drill for each coach to run through in our fundamental period. If it's just me, I tend to have multiple guys going through drills at the same time. Each group knows to be ready immediately after each rep to cutdown downtime #hogfbchat
Q2 A2 we are lucky enough to have a two coach O Line system. If the groups are larger. We will either split and run different stations. Or split and do same drills. Starters and 6-7 man / the rest #hogfbchat
A2. Depends on what we are trying to achieve with the drills. When going through speed and agility drills I like to set up like circuits stations. That way we are grindin out the drills for a certain period of time and rotate them through. #hogfbchat#hogfbchat
A2 again, also like to bring dLine and Dc over for competition other than inside run, board drills and scheme, if we get their eyes over for double team drill, or leverage, or half line than we have enough eyes with dudes to coach 3-4 pits #hogfbchat
Complete side note here. Presenting to the middle school families that feed our school on why their kids should play sports, if any of you have articles or places to find stats on GPA, attendance, graduation rates etc of athletes vs non athletes I’d appreciate it #hogfbchat
TJ FYFE OC/OL Creighton Prep in Omaha Ne
#hogfbchat
A2) put four guys on the 5 yrd line, another group on the 10, another on the 15, ect. work across the field. One coach will watch one line, another the next and film the last groups.
A2: I saw an old Phil Fulmer drill tape where he had guys in a big circle. He just turned to next group & off they went. Not much down time moving from group to group. #hogfbchat
A2: I try to eliminate lines if I can I will use eightbags and each person has a partner 4 peoplegoat atime while other 4 switch! Keep people moving Get better with reps not watching! Pull drills oneline twobag holders tempohigh speed! Keep it moving! Coach onthe fly! #hogfbchat
A2: I’ll have a coaching volunteer help out a few guys that need more fundamental work. I never want “downtime” with my guys. So I always keep them involved, weather if it’s on D, scout, etc. Unfortunately I’ve never had the luxury of “too many lineman!” #hogfbchat
A2. To add on, yes, tempo is a big thing with large groups. We don't want idle time, but we also can't allow kids to go without coaching up the mistakes. Making the corrections as quickly and effectively without killing the flow of the drill. #hogfbchat
a2: I do believe there are times, especially early, where things need to be slowed down so they can see their peers modeling the best technique. #hogfbchat
A2: Multiple groups doing 1 on 1 pass rush to maximize reps, development, and athleticism. So many areas of improvement in OL...confidence, agility, strength, work capacity, core strength, punch, strain. #RTP#hogfbchat
A2: I also use words like "single-file" "horizontal" etc when setting up drills. Be specific in your words to say what you want. Speeds up how quickly players understand what's being asked from a logistics standpoint. Get through more reps. #hogfbchat
And no matter what I end every Indi period with a competition of some sort. 1v1 or 2v2 sled comps...whoever can spin it the other side owes pushups #HogFbChat
A2: If you have a chance to explain and walk through your drills in pre practice, this is helpful too. Time you spend explaining a drill during indy = wasted reps! #hogfbchat
A2: if I have more than 10 hogs(only ten at the last 2 schools I’ve been at) I have a co-OL Coach. I can work 10 pretty well and if it’s larger we run multiple OL’s against rotating D groups to speed it up OL this go, DL for the next group #Hogfbchat
A2. “Wait time” is an unacceptable concept in our program. Reps, reps, reps! Try to film as much as you can and do the coaching in film. Obviously this is a concept that has been utilized at the college level for years. But it can be done at the H.S. level too!#hogfbchat
A2 If your dealing with younger kids, front to back drills are good so younger kids can see the older kids and copy/learn. Competitive older kids opposite directions with coach in the middle calling plays. Coach turns back and forth. #hogfbchat
A2: 80% of my drills are done in a “paired up” fashion. 4 pairs to a line and 3 lines usually. The blocks for the plays being run that day are broken down and I usually have half of the group go at a time. Very efficient and I don’t see it being done often. #Hogfbchat
I use our DL coach (who played OL at Stanford) to help us split groups up which helps us a lot. He is a huge help for me and I couldn’t imagine running practice without him #hogfbchat
A1. We will run power the first play, but out of a different formation every game. Sets the tone early and see get to see how the defense will play us against certain formations #hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat Q2 A2
I like to do drills in units to familiarize each other with the person next to them. Especially early in the season.
Sled work for example would go
Unit 1, unit 2, unit 1, unit 3, unit 1 (change drill)
A2: I usually have a minimum of 4 going at a time, working each other, so when they are out, it's recovery time. Usually the line gets smaller as the year goes on as well, Iol. #hogfbchat
A3) Selflessness. Toughness. Smart. Athletic. Powerful. Disciplined.
IMO, if your OL have these qualities.. your offense will be unstoppable. #HogFbChat
Q3 A3Invested in the system and the process. Mentally mature enough to avoid preventable penalties. Able to think and adjust to wrenches thrown at us. Able to communicate and earn the other 4s trust and respect. #hogfbchat
Great way to build camaraderie. I can pair an all region tackle with a JV backup and have 20 guys screaming cheering them on as they work as a pair to spin it on the other side #HogFbChat
A3: A guy that can handle what you throw at him during practice throughout the week. But an overlooked quality would be his ability to communicate what happened on the last series and his ability to remember what happened on play 4 of a 10 play drive. #hogfbchat
A3: The willingness to do the little things even when nobody is watching. Not wanting to be in the spot light and wanting to get better every single day! Ill take 5 kids like that over the talented kid who does not work hard and makes it all about him! #Hogfbchat
A3: Fraternity, Intelligence, Strength, Tenacity. (See what I did there?) Fraternity-selflessness m. It’s a brotherhood sacrifice for them. Intelligence- on and off the field. Strength-mentally and physically. Tenacity-in EVERYTHING they do. Sets them up for life. #hogfbchat
A1- I’m trying to take a shot early in my script, see if we can get a chunk play and if my scouting was correct on where or who we could attack them #hogfbchat
Q3. Mental/Physical toughness, selflessness, and resilience. The ability to dominate another man, the team before self attitude, and the ability to get back after if you get beat on a play. #HogFbChat
A3 - STM Short Term Memory. Can’t relish or relive every play have to move on. Must be a 6 second player for us. And must be a better teammate than lineman. Our lineman will be there to pick up a running back after getting tackled, no matter how far down field #hogfbchat
A3: Loyalty, Honesty, Selflessness and Trust. I want people I can count on. I want them to be able to count on each other and be accountable. Build a community of people that enjoy working towards a common goal minute-to-minute #hogfbchat
A3: intelligence, pride (I want them to love playing OL and take pride in their craft of kicking someones ass all night, not doing bare minimum), and toughness #hogfbchat
A2: If I can keep 3-out-of-4 engaged in the drill I will break then out into a progressive circuit. few things worse than 6-10 dudes watching 3-4 work #hogfbchat
A3 trust, they are tough to begin with and if they trust what they are doing that will result in toughness, being violent, understand it is not about them being praised, and that coach has their best interest in mind #hogfbchat
A3: Willingness to become part of a unit. Buy in to something that is bigger than oneself. Also, and this gets overlooked because we all want a bunch of Tony Boselli’s out there, but communication is important beyond measure. #Hogfbchat
A3: Quenton Nelson said it best at the combine. He has to every play have it in his mind he wants to take the guy across from hims will and desire to play football away. #HogFbChat
A3) Coachability, tenacity. One of our coaches describes it as being like "gum in hair". I can work with a guy who is looking for one more step, one more block, all the way to the "echo of the whistle". #hogfbchat
I think you have to be a little nasty, especially to dominate. It's a draw a line in the sand and you're not getting any of mine and I'm taking yours kinda makeup to play down there. Great communication skills, trust teammates Mature, shift focus to next play mentality #hogfbchat
A3: LOVE. When you love another you will do whatever it takes to protect and provide whatever that person needs. This what make us great husbands(wife @CoachLisaLimper ) and providers for our families. #hogfbchat
A3 Grit- the ability to push through all situations (good & bad) and just play the next play or rep at a high level. Selflessness, accountability, and quite frankly you must have a few loose screws- the ability to “flip the switch” at any given moment-mental intensity #hogfbchat
A3: I like to see a big brother mentality... the skilled guys are your little brothers don’t let anyone mess with them.. run to piles to get your guys up after a tackle and sprint to the end zone to celebrate with them after a TD #Hogfbchat
A3 - Love of the game and love for each other. Desire to impose their will on the guy across from them. And the desire to get better every day in whatever form that takes. #hogfbchat
A3 SMART! Must understand what we’re trying to accomplish. On the flip side also want a type of guy that’s the nicest kid in the hallways but a different animal inside the lines. Intelligent, selfless and mean makes for a STUD OL. #Hogfbchat
A3: A nasty whatever it takes attitude, trust in each other, loyalty to the team and what the team is about, and an undying love for the game of football. The most important thing is getting the guys to love football and everything about it more than anything else. #Hogfbchat
A3) Tough and Smart. The best Offensive lineman has a short-term memory. If they get beat they're ready for the next play when they get their butt chewed, they're ready for the next series. They bounce back and fight their butts off. Resilient! #hogfbchat
We call it making a guy tap. Nothing better than to see a substitution or even better see a DL move to a diff gap because him and his staff know if he stays where he is he is going to be punished every play. We tap the helmet to signal it’s happening #HogFbChat
A3: Ol have to embrace the grind of little details. You'll work first steps in every block millions of times... cant get bored by it and have to keep getting better. You need to be STUBBORN enough to hit the other guy as hard as you can, with low pad level repeatedly #hogfbchat
A3) I’ll let Quentin Nelson, the most dominant OL in CFB last year sum it up: “As a blocker, my mindset is being dominant,” Nelson said. “I want to dominate all my opponents and take their will away to play the game on each play and finishing them past the whistle.” #hogfbchat
A3 cont: I really believe the oline sets the tone for practice if they’re not juiced up to be there or if they’re having a bad day practice usually doesn’t go great.. and it all starts with the OL coaches energy level #Hogfbchat
Thanks Coach, but if you do happen to run across my husband, will you please introduce us? :) That position is currently vacant and accepting qualified applicants. #hogfbchat
A4: I’d have to say networking (anyone going to be at Glazier in Chicago this weekend? I’ll be there Friday, but hunting Saturday). I love meeting new coaches and talking shop, and also learning from dudes that do it at a high level. #hogfbchat
A4: First year going to clinics and I've organized going to multiple with staff. I love that it builds community within a staff. When we're developing our relationship, we can better serve our students. Invaluable info from proven vets, but love the simple connection! #hogfbchat
A3 D.O.L.A. = dominant offensive line attitude. Gotta be the hardest workers & most tenacious dudes on the field. Stole it from @CoachT_Spencer from way back in the day! #hogfbchat
A4) Honestly, the discussions that usually happen outside of the formal clinic. - in the lobbies and lounges. The informal clinic - bonding and networking. #hogfbchat
Q4: learning as much as I can from everyone I can. Won’t make it this year, our oldest is headed home to FL from college in MS and we are celebrating a late bday w him #Hogfbchat
A4: I love when the staff can get together after all the sessions, present what we’ve learned and choose what fits our program.
It’s almost like family time #Hogfbchat
A4: my favorite part of Clinic season is going to see how other people do it, getting around and talking to college coaches and other high school coaches. Fortunately, there are a lot of great coaches around within driving distance that wanna talk ball #hogfbchat
A3 let's face it we have more program guys then any other position, if they believe they are ass kickers they will play like ass kickers, confidence builders toughness #hogfbchat
A4: I love to pick up drill tweets, or play variations. I also enjoy networking. It’s great to meet other coaches and talk shop. I am not able to go to the clinic. #hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat A4
Breakout sessions!
Presentation is always important, but if something strikes me enough to attend the breakout part and the coach is willing to work with you, it seems like real growth happens there.
A4: I like getting to meet coaches in person who you have talked to on twitter/coaching forums. Nice to physically meet new people and bounce ideas back and forth.
A4b: Not this year, maybe one day.
#hogfbchat
A4. I love learning new details or wrinkles to things I already do to make them better. Also spending time with friends in the profession and making new ones. #hogfbchat
A4: networking...when you pick up new roles it’s great to have contacts to call on. Also huge boost for recruiting when you know the guy you’re emailing #HogFbChat
A1: honestly, I usually play it safe & run zone read to see how they're going play us. But my better moments as a play caller have come w/ starting out aggressive, esp in big games. As a run-heavy play caller, starting w/ a play-action shot. #hogfbchat
A4: Meeting other coaches and learning from them. And just building this coaching brotherhood. Sometimes you learn more outside of the sessions than you do on the inside! #Hogfbchat
A4 the best part of clinic season is stealing ideas. Visited a school this past weekend and picked up a few new ideas and realizations of some technique I need to emphasize #Hogfbchat
A4) I want to meet with coaches who know different things than me fundamentally so I we can bounce things of each other. “We all have schemes”- Derek Mason. So I’m looking for fundamentals. And unfortunately I can’t. I’ll be at Glazier Charlotte. #hogfbchat
A4: I love to learn. O, D, ST, Strength...anything, but everyone knows its the hangout time with yours guys away from school and meeting other coaches. #hogfbchat
#Hogfbchat
A4 -- I love going to watch spring practice. This year I am planning on going to Nebraska, ISU, Midland, and UNK. If you have a chance go watch ISU practice-- very inviting and let you sit in a film room and watch anything you want.
A4a-- Wish I could - but can't
A4: My favorite part of clinic season is getting together with coaches from all over the place and talking ball. The sessions are fine but really it's the times in between or after the sessions that are the most memorable. It's where our staff becomes a family. #Hogfbchat
My favorite part of Clinic season is that it moves us closer to football season 😂 but in all seriousness I love going for the staff bonding. I will not be in attendance this year but hopefully in the near future I will be. #hogfbchat
A4 Clinics.... Seeing seeing friends. Committing to learning something from every single person who speaks. Mainly visit colleges for the goods. No I will not go to Rhodes.#hogfbchat
A4: learning various ways other coaches have dealt with adversity on the field, from administrations, parents, and players while still finding ways to be successful. The smart coach learns from others mistakes without having to experience them. Always improving.
#HogFbChat
A4. Having the guy on our staff who has no shame what so ever walk into the lobby and yell "Coach, it's coach! Coach said hi!" and watch all heads snap around thinking they are the one he's talking to. #hogfbchat
Also got a new favorite quote. “You High Wall the 5. And you block him until Jesus comes back. So unless you hear trumpets you better be blocking him” #hogfbchat
A4) for me, learning new things from coaches. Xs & Os are cool but I get more out of program /personnel management /data management than anything else.
I sadly won’t attend but I’m sure it will be box-office ! #hogfbchat
A3: OL need to be like mother bears. Keeping everything in order, head up and watching for anything crazy, and if you attack or mess with her cubs (skill guys). . . #hogfbchat
A4. Listening to how coaches teach similar plays. You can always pickup something from other coaches
P2. Not this year. Hoping to see some stuff pop up on Twitter #Hogfbchat
A4: Seeing coaches who have a passion for OL play and coaching Lineman. As you can see, OL coaches I would argue have a pretty deep bond that no other position group has. #Hogfbchat
My favorite part of clinic season would have to be working with other lineman coaches. I enjoy speaking with those that watch the line play in games rather than the scheme and speedsters. It's a different game when your eyes are on the O-Line. #Hogfbchat#OlinePride
A4 - meeting new o-line and d-line Coaches. I like to learn how d-line coaches think they need to attack a physical o-line. So I can learn what I need to do to stay a step ahead
A4a - id like to, and I’d love to sit down with One anyone so I can learn! #Hogfbchat
A1: cont - in our final league game w/ title on the line, opened 1st play with a shift from tight bunch, flipping bunch, running toss to our 2k yd, All-City RB, and him throwing to WR for 45 yd gain. Set tone for us offensively. #hogfbchat
A4- the buzz it creates with your staff! I love getting in the car and hearing what inspired them, I don’t care if it’s a speaker, a drill or just feeling the fire and wanting to get on the field with our kids. I also like hearing guys validate what we are teaching #hogfbchat
A4: Sharpening my skills, growing my knowledge base, and growing my network so I can best educate our athletes.
A4a: I wish I could, but unfortunately negative. Catch @CoachDingus pitching the clinic on our podcast. #hogfbchathttps://t.co/iYfyjgWMsl
A4: Learning from others! There is always something you can take away to improve your team or your position group.
A4a: Won’t be there this weekend but will be at @QuadStatesFB in a couple of weeks! #hogfbchat
A4: finding a few great sessions and hitting that clinic, hearing from Fleck made my clinic season
A4a: 😢 no...flying to Atlanta and then driving to Birmingham, AL to support a friend and his family
#hogfbchat
A1: Multiple movement shift/motion with IZ paired with a pre-snap RPO. Force the defense to cover the entire field, communicate and adjust to movement on first play. Then push tempo. @CoachShiffman#hogfbchat
A4: I really enjoy hearing the other perspectives - particularly from the college position coaches - and also always finding the "nuggets" to take home. Glazier Reno had some several good coaches this past weekend #hogfbchat
A4. Hanging with my homies! You work nonstop for 11 months trying to figure out how to beat them. It’s refreshing just to sit down and reminisce about the battles. #hogfbchat
A4: Networking, seeing how other coaches tweak/add to similar schemes, and @CoachBrentWhite pull out a dry erase marker and go A Beautiful Mind on hotel mirrors lol #Hogfbchat
If any of you guys wanna talk ball, give me a shout, email is in the bio or get at me on here. Also, shoutout a couple of really good young (younger than me) coaches that like to talk ball @coachbcthird and @_isaiasf give them a follow and grease up the board with ‘em #hogfbchat
A4a. The IFCA Clinic is in Indy this weekend. Looking forward to getting to work with some of the country’s best high school football coaches! @INFBCoaches#hogfbchat
If anybody has topics or questions they want discussed on the #hogfbchat please don’t hesitate to DM myself or @CoachDingus and we will get them on the chat

Real quick if you guys believe in prayer (personally, I do) could you shoot one up for WV?
Our education system is going through a crisis right now with our teachers on strike. It’s been 8 days now and I just hope that it gets resolved quickly. Thank you
Q4a: I will be at Glazier Clinic in Oakbrook IL. Trying to get better at the craft! Trying to get better at my Sport Psychology application in football! #Hogfbchat
A2: I mostly prefer OL drills that can be done in pairs or group 3 or 4. Fit & Finish. 8pts of Drive-Catch. p2 bar. Using boards. Driving 2man sled. Pull weighted sled. Or doing things in a whole group that everyone is replicating the same action. Stance. Footwork. #hogfbchat
I’ve been your host tonight, Tony Shiffman. Looking forward to seeing a lot of you Saturday and the rest of you next Monday at 8pm CST for the next installment of the #hogfbchat
A2 Have them work in partners and stretch them across the field. It's awesome when you go sideline to sideline with a group. Inside run period with two groups. Varsity vs D and Pups vs D.
Multiple guys going and rotating in trap, base, double drills. #hogfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachShiffman: We appreciate everybody who took the time to contribute or lurk tonight. We can’t thank you all enough for being here and participating #hogfbchat

A3 Physical. The ability to get off the ball, have that initial punch to shock and then the ability to finish blocks. They also have to be team players.
The strength of the team is the hog, and the strength of the hog is the team. #hogfbchat
Q2: Peer coaching is the key!!Seniors coaching the feature of their position. If they can teach it (with great details), they know it. Also a great way for the kids to take ownership of the their unit/team.
#hogfbchat
A4: learning better ways to do things and talking ball! Clinic season pretty much exists year-round now thanks to this community and many others throughout the week! #hogfbchat
A3: Nasty, Knowledgeable, Explosive. Relentless. Funny (Made up the last one, but who doesn't like a funny OL). I really emphasize Nasty (distinct from Dirty) b/c it captures the attitude/physicality/"chip-on-shoulder" approach that I see in most successful OL athletes #hogfbchat
@CoachDingus Enjoyed listening to your podcast! Great advice about the football resources on twitter, the experience of the #hogfbchat contributors, and the quality people who coach the great sport of football!

A3: Mental aspect...
4 C's
1. Confidence
2. Consistency
3. Concentration
4. Cohesiveness
I also teach a "Pre-snap Thought Process" and teach from a level of progression..
1. What
2. How
3. Why
#hogfbchat
A2: Try to split the groups up amongst coaches or get multiple groups going. I want to make sure I don’t have so many groups going that I can’t make sure the quality is still there. It’s about quality not quantity. #hogfbchat
A4: Any time where I have the opportunity to learn from others. Whether that be Glazier, an informal meet up, watching the other coaches talk through something. #hogfbchat
