A1 Student voice for me is not only allowing students voice in the decisions made in the classroom, but letting them see and hear that you care and listen. #rcstechchat
A1: I work in the library so for me it means students being able to select their own books, and seeing themselves represented in books. They should be talking about those books and why they matter to them. #rcstechchat
A1 #RCSTechchat All students should have a way to communicate regardless of their functioning level. This can be as simple as eye gaze to verbally answering.
#rcstechchat A1: Student voice means allowing the Ss to take ownership in their learning. Making them feel how crucial their thoughts are to the success of the classroom and their learning!
A1: Student Voice means allowing students to express their opinions, beliefs, and culture in how they respond to learning. They have the ability to show their learning as it applies to their lives #rcstechchat
A1 Student voice to me means that students have a say in their learning and to be able to participate in discussions to voice their opinions.
#RCSTechChat
A1-student voice means students taking accountability for their education. Giving them a choice as well as an opportunity to express their opinions and learn about things that are important to them. #rcstechchat
I believe students should feel heard and respected in their learning environment. They should feel comfortable enough to express concern or opinions respectfully. #rcstechchat
A1 Student Voice to me means the kids are getting involved in their learning and able to voice how they learn best, their strengths and growth throughout the year. #rcstechchat
#rcstechchat A1: Student voice means allowing the Ss to take ownership in their learning. Making them feel how crucial their thoughts are to the success of the classroom and their learning!
A1- student voice means for students to talk WITH you and others, not YOU only talking at them. Only then do they feel ready to show what they know and take risks with their goals/learning. #RCStechchat
A1: Student voice allows the student to determine the pace and path of their learning while also empowering their own cultural perspective. #rcstechchat
A2 We have “genius time” on Friday where students get to explore their own interests and marry the content (world language-Spanish) in expressing that. We reflect a lot with surveys, and I make sure to be overt in my inclusion of students. #rcstechchat
A2: with our book club we are using Project LIT. Students get to choose their book, and they all selected a leadership role. They are creating the social media graphics, and the questions, and leading the meetings #rcstechchat
A2 #RCSTechchat I have students who are non-verbal and some who are verbal. Then non-verbal students respond in various ways. They use devices to talk for them or even type what they want to say. My verbal students are my "leaders"
A2 When I was in the classroom, I gave my students menus of assignments they could choose for the week. I also let them choose their centers for the day. #rcstechchat
A2 #Rcstechchat
Students get to pair and share most lessons. Students get to use an exit ticket to rate their level of knowledge of the topic we have been covering
A2 #RCSTechchat The verbal students help the non-verbal students be encouraging them with what to say. I believe that childrens' voices are often more of a teaching tool sometimes than my voice
A2: I use @Seesaw to have Ss record work, discuss books, etc. I also like to allow the students to complete choice boards at stations. Ss also goal set before tests and talk about how to meet those goals! Ss also create questions for partners #RCStechchat
A2 I've used the SeeSaw app for students to share and explain their work or to add on to a discussion. I love that parents can see this as well.
#RCSTechChat
A2- question, model accountable talk, model thinking until it becomes a normal practice, allowing student instruction to begin and end a lesson has been super beneficial this year to build confidence #RCStechchat
A2 At the very beginning of the year I create an atmosphere that allows students to feel safe. They know that they can openly discuss ideas without criticism from peers. We do a lot of accountable talk in our classroom. We use Seesaw too! :) #rcstechchat
A3 Ss voice is important bc they need to take ownership of their education. A drawback is that you will have some that take advantage of the situation and not use their time wisely. #rcstechchat
A3 #RCSTechchat I know that it is important to give them a voice at school because many of them do not get to have a voice anywhere else in their life. The drawbacks are when students are even too scared to talk at school because they are told to be quiet elsewhere
A3 Students feeling heard=students being engaged, even if the subject isn’t their “favorite”. Drawbacks? None! I have heard, long ago, a colleague bock at the idea of listening to students and giving them ownership, but I don’t even hear such silliness anymore. #rcstechchat
A3: Students are empowered when we allow them to express themselves and it builds self-esteem and confidence! The drawbacks would be making sure they are still meeting the academic standards and that there is equality of assessment. #rcstechchat
A3: giving students voice allows them to take ownership of their learning. They are now in control and invested. Students may vere off track and it can be difficult to engage students who lack motivation. #rcstechchat
A3 #Rcstechchat
Drawbacks for me are kiddos always taking forever to tell a story and I only have about 30 mins with each class. Or students getting way off topic.
It is important for them to voice at school because some love the interaction and others need more practice
A3 Students have to feel like they matter! If they are given a voice they will feel like we care about what they think! I think our biggest drawback is time. #rcstechchat
A3-simply showing that you care to hear them is HUGE! They face enough in this world to also not ever be thought of as relevant at times. Biggest challenge we have is time...I WISH I had all day to talk, discuss, listen, and guide—oh the learning that would happen! #RCStechchat
A3 It's important for students to share their thoughts and ideas to hold them accountable for their learning. Sometimes there is not enough time in the day for students to share and collaborate.
#RCSTechChat
A3: What training have you been to where you were just lectured at and you loved? When you’re involved- your mindset is totally flipped! Drawbacks...as a T you just have to be willing to see failure as a learning opportunity. Keep trying!! #RCStechchat
A3 I wonder, as I see SEL sweep the nation, if we will start to throttle back on all academic, all the time, and sanction space for reflection, feelings, and affect. I hope! #rcstechchat
A3 I love for Ss to feel heard/valued. I stress accountable talk to classes when discussing topics. When others don't use respect/manners it can keep quiet Ss from sharing= drawback to me bc I want my class a safe env. #RCStechchat
A3: Enabling student voice challenges teacher's sense of control. It's a very careful balance that requires teachers to be okay with a certain level of uncertainty. #rcstechchat
A4 I have not used @Flipgrid, but have seen some teachers I follow on Instagram use it and it looks so cool! I am very interested in playing around with it. #rcstechchat
A4 YES! We just set our year long goals on FlipGrid. I also post short questions in Spanish for students to respond to. My colleagues and I are thinking of doing a 8th to 9th transition FlipGrid and also planning a new staff FlipGrid for next year #rcstechchat
A4 Ss LOVE to use @Flipgrid! They have so much fun interacting w/ their peers! They're going to talk anyway, might as well let them have fun & get a good academic discussion out of them ;-) #rcstechchat
Q4: Yes! The students loved using their phones to respond to a question. One of our teachers used it to have students introduce themselves to him on the first day of school! Love @Flipgrid#rcstechchat
A4: my professor is using it for a discussion board for our online class and I fell in love with it. I created one for book club and shared the link last night. One student has already posted an amazing question on #THUG. I’m loving it so far! #RCSTechchat
It's FREE. Basically you as the teacher would post a prompt for students to answer. They would respond using their voice and video. You then review their submissions. #rcstechchat
A4: My Ss Love it! They ask for it all the time! I even used it to get Ts experiences about 9/11 that the students could watch and interact with. So powerful! Such a shift instead of standing up one at a time in front of the class! #RCSTechChat
A4- in all honesty, yes I’ve used @Flipgrid and YES they loved it! So did I, but as most things in education, when everything is important, nothing is important. So this year, for me, it’s finding out what tool REALLY is important enough to stay and go forth! #RCStechchat
A4: I see Ts doing magical things with @Flipgrid. It really capitalizes on young people's love of YouTube stars. It's a great opportunity to teach digital citizenship. #rcstechchat
A5: I love @padlet! I use it with my inservices because it's super fast and easy ... it's a shame that you have to pay for it now though :( #rcstechchat
When we look over the chat logs to validate your 1hr PD credit we look for the A1, A2, etc.. Please make sure you use it in future questions so you get full credit ;-) #rcstechchat
A5 I love using the Student Portfolios in @ClassDojo! Students can really show off what they know and their parents' are in the loop, too! #rcstechchat
A-5 @Seesaw is my jam! Allowing students to share what they know through drawing, video and voice recording, all while sharing work with their parents...Yes please! Being able to listen to kids read or explain a math problem is invaluable! #rcstechchat
A5- I use all of them, and they remain constants. Easy to learn, easy to follow, and very user friendly. I would love a subscription to @Flocabulary#RCStechchat
A5: I’ve used @padlet, and I’m a @Seesaw ambassador! I adore both of these Blended learning apps and resources. Great collaboration spaces! @Flocabulary is great too- just limited on accessible content. ☺️ #RCSTechChat

A5 We started using @Seesaw last year and LOVED it. It held the students accountable with showing and explaining their work. It allowed students who normally wouldn't share out in class a chance to explain. I also liked that parents could see their child's work. #rcstechchat
Unrelated, but I’m sorry to invade the RCS twitter chat :). I noticed too late that you all are TN teachers. Having a great time. Hope you don’t mind a CT invasion. #rcstechchat
A5 How do I express my love for @padlet ?! I use it daily. Kids love it too. I use Seesaw daily as well & It's my main line of communication to parents.#rcstechchat
We are doing AWESOME!!! 1 more question remaining for tonight! Remember not to log off until you complete the form. It will be tweeted out at the end. #rcstechchat

A6 #RCSTechchat I have been checking out @flocabulary while we have been chatting and I will be using this tomorrow!!! I love it! My students learn a lot by music and this is perfect!!!
Q6: I would love to see teachers using @Flipgrid for exit tickets and then show some of the results for review at the beginning of class the following day! #rcstechchat
A6 I would like to learn more about flipgrid and if it something I can use during my math or reading small groups for students to respond to questions.
#RCStechchat
I want to go ahead and promote next week's chat while we are all on here! It's going to be on Research Strategies and will be open for all grade levels! Our host will be @TechCoachErin & @Cing_EdTech!! #rcstechchat
A6 I’m the tech coach in my bldg (in addition to Spanish) so for me the goal is, as someone mentioned, pick one thing that’s important and really utilize. @Flipgrid might be that thing. #rcstechchat
A6 I plan to use flip grid when practicing for FCCLA competitions with my students. I will be able to see their practice and so will they! #rcstechchat
A6: Providing tools for student voice is essential. However, we also need to make sure we have a plan for providing feedback. Make sure these students know that we hear them. Do it often and adapt to their needs. #rcstechchat
A6: the 2 tech tools I’m learning and currently using are teams and Flipgrid. I didn’t have any understanding of either before last month. I love that the kids are taking ownership and collaborating with others and talking about books! 😍 #RCSTechchat
A6 #Rcstechchat
I like the idea they are going to talk anyways, lets give them a topic and make it meaningful!
I like the apps and getting kids involved.
Need more information on the apps and resources to make this user friendly in guidance classes.
A6 I am going to be looking into @Flipgrid really soon. I have been toying with the idea, but just haven't set aside time to look into it. I think my kiddos would really like this tool. #rcstechchat
A6- watch a blended learning model lesson. Find which one works best for you. You will find that blended learning and these tools go hand in hand and suddenly your job is so much more meaningful and the time spent with kids is full of engagement and learning #RCStechchat
A6: Stations and small group! This way- we can accomplish many small steps and still have conversations when we can’t spend an extended amount of time in one place each day! #RCSTechChat
A6 I want to use SeeSaw more for Ss teaching their parents about their math lessons. I think it will help them reach a new level of comfort. Just imagine how proud their parents/guardians will be! #rcstechchat
This has been a great discussion! Thank you all for joining us! Don't hesitate to reach out to your tech coach for help on any of the tools we mentioned. Don't log off until you complete the form. It's coming........ #rcstechchat
