#UKEdchat A1 Easy answer is for a change of pace; Bart Simpson mightn’t like it, but games/quizzes that help students learn while having a bit of fun or quasi-downtime, e.g. Millionaire, group competitions across multiple PCs, etc.
#UKedchat A1 Ideally to differentiate learning: round table group work for collaborative problem solving, and Moodle for the maths, so students learn and apply the mechanics (lower order challenge) before returning to the higher order challenge

#UKEdChat very lucky in Wales to have Hwb provided for schools which has some amazing things included meaning it can be integrated into class easily. I think I use it well but it's important to use it to support or further learning not just for the sake of it. Q2
#UKEdchat A2 Moving away from using it as much in class to focus on grouped problem-solving. In doing so, tech becomes more of a student outside-of-class tool rather than an in-class tool.
Missed a class? Moodle. Need extra practice? Moodle?
But need a better balance of both
#UKedchat A3 Was talking about this today. I think that debate has lost it way – cutbacks mean fulfilment is losing out more and more to justifying the investments through the amount of use, instead of the effective usage of ...
A3 - Not fulfilled potential (YET) systems prone to glitches @Bedr0ckLearning & while the communication & focus on sorting this is good, the frustration for students & parents & time caused communicating with each can make it feel arduous to say the least @katiesuther#ukedchat

#ukedchat A3 - No. By a long shot, and still a long way to go. Until teachers are part of the planning, implementation and improvement of #edtech then it will always fail its potential. Continuously providing training, updates and support is also part of the bigger picture.
A3 I'm always afraid that edtech often seems a bit gimiky and never really seems to be cost effective in terms of improving results in the classroom #ukedchat
#A3#UKEdchat Also need to address digital literacy in students and staff and remember the T in TPACK is part of the package to make edtech more effective!
#ukedchat A3 - As for investment, it’s no good in investing in #edtech equipment unless you’re prepared to invest in the time and dedication that training requires to ensure smooth roll out of any technology. Good will won’t work for all.
#UKEdChat Q3 do not think edtech has fulfilled its potential and has some way to go reach its potential, consistency in using it is not there yet and that it can often be pushed when there are easier ways of using it not just using it for the sake of it it needs to add something.
#ukedchat It keeps the pace of the lesson when used for displaying questions and answers. Mathsteacher. Can’t be to bad 88% above expected progress last year.
#ukedchat A3 I think this is very context dependant - if the #edtech need and implementation involves class/teaching staff in the decision making and testing process then more likely a yes
A3: Schools think that buying some iPads will solve their problems - they must follow it up with proper training and integration for it to be effective #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat really important to understand the edtech you are purchasing and have a clear plan for its use, how it will fit in your setting and not just follow current trends
#ukedchat Please help me share some teacher joy. The unpredictability, the surprises and the inspiration of working with young people. This week for @TES.

A4 This week we've got 2 members of staff on long term sick so I recorded and put on youtube an into into the lesson & cover work which seems to have been more effective tan getting them to do book work #ukedchat
Agreed - David. Students at the age we are talking about need guidance, support, verbal explanation or they can drop into a tech vac and not learn much!#ukedchat
#A4#UKEdchat Reacting to widely differentiated needs. Was reviewing mock with group who all had different areas that frustrated. Agreed each worked on own “silly mistakes” by using Moodle, watching how-to-videos & trying quizzes and games b4 coming back to apply the learning
I also think the use of social media to share pupils work has had a huge impact on motivating pupils and giving them an audience for their work #UKEdChat
Sadly #UKEdChat too many will do just that. "Ooh, it's shiny, and will impress the governors". Should be made more accountable, whilst supporting staff development and LEARNING 🥺

A5: Our system is so slow that there is a lag between me pressing the pen on my IWB and the board recording it. Constant carnage! Shows the need for up to date tech and systems if you want to use it effectively #UKEdChat
#A5#UKEdchat - Pet hate is ticking a box or filling time – “Let’s go to the computers and do this quiz” (Even though it is clear you all know the materials, can apply the materials and completed everything expected of with flying colours)
#UKEdChat Q5 started using class dojo in class, wasn't having any impact so stopped. Also anything using the Internet when the Internet decides not to work so frustrating.
So frustrating #UKEdChat It's nearly 2019, yet a lot of the #edtech used in schools and colleges still relies on Windows XP, computers and software that have not been updated in over a decade, and don't start me on the WiFi speeds 😮
A5 GL Assessment is a bone of contention in that students can be over exposed if they do all the assessments during a short time and get very bored very quickly. Everything in moderation...#UKEdChat
A6: The fear that it may not work can be very off putting, especially when working with younger ones who are easily distracted. Trade off between valuable experience for the chn and the risk of losing a whole lesson because it doesn’t work properly #UKEdChat
A6 #UKEdChat Yes. I'm very concerned about tracking and privacy of teachers and students, in and out of school. Why should any teacher see when and where a student DID their homework? To me, it either gets done, or it doesn't!
#A6#UKEdChat Not anymore, some many issues over the years, I now have a toolbox of contingencies and strategies for tech failing. Backup plans are key.
A1 loads. We have 1:1 IPads for many so loads of apps but even if they don’t I can. Plicker and pallet are worth a look. Obs use lots of videos. Here is how some can track progress https://t.co/ghX9KbyVrj#UKEdChat
A6 Yes, as my students quickly worked out that if you remove the ethernet cable from the back of their laptop while they log in, they can circumnavigate the firewall and access several fruity websites...🤔#ukedchat
My current favourites are green screen to give a real purpose to speaking and listening , Adobe Spark to produce professional videos and content and also enjoying j2code for creating mini games and animations. #UKEdChat q7
A2 yes, always loved IT and am Apple Teacher. Always room to learn, we have specialised CPD menus on it. Plus Trams events are free and fab! https://t.co/cEvG3JoeGJ#UKEdChat
A3 yes but agree time spent training and converting skeptics hardest this. Invest less money and more (not extra) time. Build in to CPD. Apple is fab as they support Apple schools that train others! #UKEdChat
Indeed #UKEdChat but it's concerning when schools are using #edtech that monitors activity away from school, when setting online tasks that monitor online usage 😳
#A7#UKEdChat Believe it or not - email/forums. I have a few groups of students beginning to take ownership of the learning so this offers occasional distance; rather than having immediate answers at the end of a raised hand. They have to work harder on their own first!
A7 I love youtube, there's loads of good content that you can use to start a lesson while your waiting for late comers or if you have any spare time #ukedchat
A5 when it doesn’t work...always have plan B. BUT this can be the same for any plan, never get stuck on/to a plan... is teachers r innovators and improvisers! #UKEdChat
A3 For me? Ab👏so👏lutely!!!! But I also sought out a lot of additional training and information. EdTech is 100% worth the investment... if you invest in the training on how to use it to meet its potential. #UKEdChat
A6 Yes and no, I deal with PSHE too so am clear of miss use and refer to it. I am happy I am skilled enough to use but hopefully smart enough to not rely or replace other better forms. We must think what it brings us. #UKEdChat
