Happy Saturday Morning! Welcome to #BookCampPD - Please welcome our guest authors Jeff Zoul @Jeff_Zoul and Anthony McConnell @mcconnellaw - I am your moderator Meredith Johnson and I am thrilled you're here this morning!
Be sure when you answer questions, you label them A1, A2, A3. We’re going to be having fun, so be sure to share your thoughts and add #BookCampPD to each tweet.
#BookCampPD 's chat also has a website with amazing resources for all of you to use! You might want to check out "The Principled Principal" resources (scroll down to book and click) https://t.co/9CFlAawfNY
Q1. The people principle (2) involves a team of human beings who are individuals with their own dreams, aspirations, struggles, and conflicts. Please share what working side-by-side with this team would look like in an exceptional school. #BookCampPD
A1 this would like a ton of collaboration. This team would create both their short term and long strategic plan and work together to achieve it. #BookCampPD
A1: The people principle describes the reality of our world. We should listen to each other's ideas, support each other's aspirations, and work to help each other in our struggles. Conflict is also an opportunity for growth. We should never forget that. #bookcamppd
A2: It would look like collaborating with the team and celebrating each team members talents and strengths. Growing from one another's ideas. Listening and problem solving together to create the best school climate. #bookcamppd
A1 Colleagues who support each other as friends, not just co-workers. Having fun, being nice, challenging each other. Honest, trusting relationships. Inspiring each other #BookCampPD
A1: everyone working together to achieve individual goals. TS are driven by interests. Allowing them to pursue what interests them and celebrating it is best for the whole school. #bookcamppd

A1a: We are building this team in our school! As principal, I will say yes to anything that is good for kids, will help them learn, and keep us moving in the right direction. #BookCampPD
A1 While everyone has their own dreams and aspirations, this team would have a shared dream and purpose that they would be striving to make happen in the midst of all the other daily tasks. #BookCampPD

A1 Individual strengths would be highlighted and capitalized. Collaboration is encouraged to allow those strengths to be used to achieve more balanced and cohesive programs #bookcamppd

A1 A broad support mechanism which promotes honest interaction, trust in others, transparency of ideas, strong relationships, celebrating the #WIN model for students. #BookCampPD
A1b: but when you have Ts who are willing to take risks, continue to seek out their own learning opportunities, and always treats Ss like their own this makes all things possible! #BookCampPD
Q2. The communication principle (7) is highlighted the 3rd Saturday of each month on #BookCampPD as you "Shine the Spotlight" on your classroom/school/district. What story is your school telling right now? Is it the story you want told? Why or why not?
When I reflect on your Twitter comments I see so many of your interests come to the forefront. I totally agree that interests plan a key role #BookCampPD
A1: It would look like a supportive/collaborative team. Sharing/listening to individual passions, allowing each other to pose questions/challenges, team members taking charge of their learning, & remembering our "why" #BookCampPD
A1 Colleagues who support each other as friends, not just co-workers. Having fun, being nice, challenging each other. Honest, trusting relationships. Inspiring each other #BookCampPD
A2 Hopefully telling the story that students and learning are at the center of everything we do and that we base our decisions on what is best for students. #BookCampPD
A2: I think we are telling a students first story. That we have a culture that is focused on always asking what is best for kids. #BookCampPD#10Principles
A1: It would look like a supportive/collaborative team. Sharing/listening to individual passions, allowing each other to pose questions/challenges, team members taking charge of their learning, & remembering our "why" #BookCampPD
A1: The team would have a coach/principal who is a constant encourager. A support staff/cheerleaders. Teachers/players who are open minded and willing to take risks. It would be a group of educators who are willing to learn together to be the best they can be for Ss . #BookCampPD
A1b: ...and our "why" always has to do with our Ss. Love them always. They are the reason we got into education. They are the reason we do the hard work that we do. We never know all that's on their plates. #BookCampPD
A2: It is interesting our school is going through a major remodel and I think it is an opportunity to start a new story. Support for everyone is a common theme though. #bookcamppd

A2 tough question, yes and no. Our school does a great job letting no student slip through the cracks, but I know we could do so much more. Right now it’s a lot more talk than take action. #BookCampPD
A2 The story my school is telling is that everyone is welcome, everyone can learn, and no one is left behind. We just had our welcome week where we get the kids involved in realizing that everyone is welcome. no matter what! #BookCampPD
A2: So many wonderful things have been shared on Twitter and FB this year. Our superintendent @EHSD_eforti has challenged all of us to tell the story of our school and district because others will if we don’t. I believe it’s working! #BookCampPD
A2: We have so many amazing things happening at our school, but I'm not sure if that is the story we are telling. Budget, conflict seem to be the source of this, but these things exist in all schools. We've got to change our story. #bookcamppd
A2: My school supports risk taking and growth mindset. I love this story very much. Risk taking can be scary, but after you take that first step, it isn't as bad. It is like getting into the pool. Some people jump in. Others have to ease in, but we can all get there. #BookCampPD
@Jeff_Zoul@mcconnellaw I wanted to come to #bookcamppd to make sure people know if they want to hear more from you they can listen to episode 93 of #PrincipalPLN for your aweseomeness!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh as a principal remodeling just about did me in the two times I went through it. My hat is off to everyone in your school and especially you for taking a positive outlook on it! #BookCampPD
Sad when that becomes the story. Those things are realities everywhere, but cannot be what we allow to become the story we share and promote! #BookCampPD
Q3. The management principle (8) often involves enlisting and empowering others to help lead this important work. It can be their first opportunity to step into leadership. Would you say that your school or district has a culture of “yes”? Why or why not? #BookCampPD
A1: It would look like a supportive/collaborative team. Sharing/listening to individual passions, allowing each other to pose questions/challenges, team members taking charge of their learning, & remembering our "why" #BookCampPD
A2: Our school story is that everyone matters, every minute matters, everyday matters. This is a story I fully support! In big ways working towards learning goals and in small ways such as acknowledging Ss everyday with a smile! #momauguinproud#BookCampPD
A2 Our district is going through a 'changing of the guard'. Our long time superintendent is retiring and we are going through the hiring process. Opportunity for a new story to be told next year! #BookCampPD
A3 I would say my school has a strong culture of "yes!" We're encouraged to try new things and explore. Our principal is open to new ideas and supports us. We can only move forward if we try new things, which involve a "yes!" #BookCampPD
Q3 Individuals are encourage to try new things, but my P is not willing to implement new things Bldg wide. The result is there really isn’t a cohesive message being put forth. #bookcamppd
A3: In my building I support anything new a teacher wants to try if its going to be good for kids. Many of our school-wide initiatives have come out of those first adopters finding success! #bookcamppd
A3 Everyone has the capacity to lead in some manner. Knowing the PEOPLE in your building, system is the key to knowinbg how to move forward. Some schools and ssytems do this better than others and some enforce compliance and "who you know" #BookCampPD

I ADORED those who jumped out! I sent a message to one of them last night after a chat and sang her praises about leading the way with kinder student lead conferences. #BookCampPD
A3 To some extent, yes. Our district recently started inviting Ts to lead in optional district PD sessions based on their strengths and interests. Love that opportunity to share and learn from team members! #BookCampPD
Q3. The management principle (8) often involves enlisting and empowering others to help lead this important work. It can be their first opportunity to step into leadership. Would you say that your school or district has a culture of “yes”? Why or why not? #BookCampPD
A2: our schl has been thru many changes in last few yrs. Thanks to our pirate leader, we're working to improve comm between home/schl, gen.ed./sp.ed., & positive culture, among other things! Sharing positivity, celebr'ing Ss & Ts, doing staff book study, wkg as team. #BookCampPD
A3: It is getting that way, It has not always seemed so and every school is different. I have been lucky that many of my Principals have been YES people. #bookcamppd
Q3. The management principle (8) often involves enlisting and empowering others to help lead this important work. It can be their first opportunity to step into leadership. Would you say that your school or district has a culture of “yes”? Why or why not? #BookCampPD
A3: Oh, there is a definite, loud "yes" here. Our leadership has made it clear that we have the go ahead to take risks. There is no doubt, which is important. This yes is communicated repeatedly through emails, meetings and visible support of new ideas. #bookcamppd
A3: I believe, as a district, we are moving to a culture of yes. We have a new Super and will have a new asst super, too. My Super has always said yes if it’s best for kids sometimes before I even realize it is! #BookCampPD
A3: I am blessed to work in a school @momauguinelem that has a strong culture of "yes"! We are encouraged to try new things & we are given the opportunity to share our new learning with each other! We are a community of life long learners! We go all in for our Ss ! #BookCampPD
A3b: and...I keep telling our teachers just ask! Saying yes to Ts AND Ss empowers others to take risks, think outside the box, and move to a more positive, trusting culture and climate. #BookCampPD
In appreciation toward our guest authors @Jeff_Zoul and @mcconnellaw for sharing their thoughts with #BookCampPD this morning! To all who participated by sharing their comments and sincere caring for children each day - you are amazing!
Q3: Definitely Culture of yes. Our P has created environment where it's safe to take risks & try new things. She leads by example. Also uses team approach to give staff a voice in decision making. So important to have insight from variety of sources/disciplines #BookCampPD
