-
Hey there Jamie! Thanks for moderating this evening!
-
Don't forget to include the hashtag so everyone can follow along.
-
I hope everyone likes comparisons! That is what is on the agenda for tonight... let's get started!
-
Dee in Frankfort, KY... is being misused as a buzzword...
-
Q1: How is collaboration like sushi?
-
Welcome to the ... Glad you could join us... :)
-
Rigor is such a disgusting word. Rigid, inflexible, harsh. Why do we think it is good for education?
-
-
A1: Well it's something that I wish I could partake in more often and it's always good ;)
-
A1. It can be scary if you haven't tried it before, but sometimes trying new things helps open your eyes and expands your mind.
-
A1: Collaboration has many layers, but when put together... "yumness" happens.
-
You have lots of different ingredients with lots of textures, some raw, others spicy and they need to get along.
-
What role does collaboration play in your job?
-
A1: Collaboration is like sushi as in can be scary to try at first, but once you try it the possibilities are endless!
-
A1: Sushi has the same basic components, yet there are still lots of varieties (some flavors work together better than others)
-
You all are rocking the comparisons! I love all of the different ideas!
-
-
I think it gets used to mean worthy work that stretches students-- but practice doesn't match.
-
I teach inclusion so, for me, collaboration is about planning in a way that allows my co-teacher and I to stay on the same page
-
A2: Kids in a school belong to all of us- we need to work together to create the best possible learning experience for all of them
-
Q2: Buzzword: How is makerspace like snow?
-
A1: Sushi and collaboration both have unknowns-- that can be scary. I have found both worth the risk! Sometimes surprise is good!
-
A2) Lots of talk about creating makerspaces. But they are like snow, all around us. Just build something. Make.
-
A2: I think makerspace is unique to each teacher, but giving the opportunity to kids is a beautiful outcome.
-
A2: A new snow fall brings a blank canvas- bring your imagination to create a masterpiece- friends welcomed
-
A2: is like snow because what you make from it is purely based on creative thinking
-
So many educators are set in their ways... !
-
Yes! Love the idea of a blank canvas
-
Hi! Heidi, Deaf ed teacher from Owensboro. Moderating another chat right now, but peaking at what's happening at
-
A2. Even if the materials start out the same, the products are unique.
-
A2: The outcome is unique. Every design is beautiful in its own way. They can even be awe-inspiring.
-
I like to think of it as an opportunity for invention, creation and expression
-
How many of you all have at least one teacher/librarian implementing makerspaces? Any cool ideas?
-
-
A2: Snowflakes are all different; we approach with our different individual perspectives- kids & adults!
-
-
-
A1: Collaboration depends on everyone supporting each other so don't fall apart. Same as sushi roll!
-
Absolutely... there is no right or wrong... it's the idea behind makerspace that counts...
-
Q3: Buzzword: Blended Learning How is blended learning like modes of transporation?
-
I want to use aluminum foil- have the kids create using just that. !
-
A3) All learning should be blended, what don't we want to know? We should be trying to learn all things. I get the term but...
-
A3: Blended learning is taking several "modes" and ending up at a desired destination.
-
A3. Technology is a great tool, but like transportation new isn't always better. Sometimes I use my car, other times walking is ok.
-
A3: Blended learning gives students a lot of flexibility in getting to the destination of understanding.
-
Love this!!! Way to think outside of the box! :)
-
A3: There is usually more than one way to get to a destination... A goal...a standard. Be open (& prepared) for multiple routes!
-
Q4: Buzzword: Innovation How is innovation like a candy store?
-
A3: Some environments are like my car- lots of buttons that I'm not quite sure what they do (and need a mechanic or youtube video)
-
A4. So many exciting possibilities! Sometimes it's hard to pick a favorite. Reading right now!
-
A4: Even in a candy store, sometimes you just don't find what you are craving..that is why we have chocolate covered potato chips
-
A4: Innovation is like a candy store because it is often colorful and exciting.
-
A4: When I go to a candy store, I get a bag, fill it up with all my Favs. Everyones candy bag is to their liking
-
A3: There are also sorts of vehicles, which form a transportation system. It may be busy and chaotic, but it works!
-
A4: It's fun, it can be funky, and dang well better be fresh! Innovation is also usually pretty sweet.
-
Any quick and cool ideas for ?
-
and some get you where you need to go faster than others
-
-
-
I use this extension in my class... works most of the time... :)
-
I love giving kids three objects and a problem to solve... they have 5 minutes to use the objects to come up with a solution!
-
Quick, but creative... love it
-
Q5: Buzzword: Growth Mindset How is growth mindset like a light saber?
-
A5: It's bright and scary at times, but is the ultimate in force!
-
A5: Growth mindset is like a light saber: It only works when the light is on.
-
a5 It cuts the hands off of the "fixed mindset"?
-
A5) Sometimes your lightsaber isn't as fully grown as others and it shimmers when it waves.
-
-
A5: Love this one! A growth mindset takes some time to master, but once you get a feel for it you can become a true jedi :)
-
Q5. Powerful and game-changing when implemented correctly.
-
I think it is not only important for us to have a growth mindset, but also our S's...
-
How do you model this for your students?
-
-
A5: Light saber works with personal will/force; growth mindset is also personal will/force. We have more control than we know.
-
Q6: Buzzword Life-Long Learning
How is life-long learning like Minecraft?
-
-
A6) Sometimes if feels procedurally generated, but in the end you are in charge of what you do next.
-
Your brain can always take more...
-
A6: Lifelong learning is like minecraft because it's fun for all ages!
-
A6: I got this one, in minecraft you keep bldg & bldg., it's never dome, just like our learning. We continuously learn, never done
-
A6: there is a foundation that has to be laid... additions can always be made... Changes can always be made... we are in charge!
-
A6. Everyone's passions are different. Take the time to explore the world around you and find what you love.
-
-
-
-
If you had to pick a buzzword that makes the most IMPACT in students learning... what would it be and why? Ready. Set. Go!
-
-
A7: My buzzword for Ss is always GROWTH bc everything is a learning opportunity and education extends in all directions always.
-
A6: It's ever-changing! You can change course and ultimately, you are in control.
-
A7: I have two. Love and understanding. And quite frankly, they NEED to be buzzwords.
