Q1 #TLAP my greatest strength is definitely my passion and that goes into the other items in the acronym. I always give it my all, my heart and soul goes into everything I do in life!! I love going the extra mile for students as well as staff!! #PowerOfPositivityIn Education
A1: It's tough one between Passion and Rapport. I'll have to go with rapport. I pride myself on the relationships I build within my classroom and with other students in the school. #tlap
#tlap A!: Remembering "Passion" has made the biggest impact on how and why I do things, but immersion comes naturally for me and I like to create experiences for students.
A1 Passion is definitely my strength. As an art/literacy teacher I try to bring everything I know about creating into any classroom I teach. Making meaning and exploring interests are two skills I love students to develop. #tlap
A1: Enthusiasm! It’s contagious! Don’t bottle up your excitement each day, get out & motivate your staff & students to do great, serve others, and laugh along the way! #tlap
A1: I'd say probably passion. I've had students ask if I used to teach P.E. because I get so loud when I talk about history! I get very excited about the stories I teach, like my old professor @JohnFea1. I am also passionate about my students and making them successful! #tlap
A1: not surprised to see so many pirates saying PASSION! Agreed - I am passionate about my job and what I teach, but also encourage Ss to find THEIR passion and pursue it! #TLAP
#tlap A1: Transformation is my strength because I transform my curriculum to fit my students, I transform my classroom into scenes from literature, and I transform into characters from literature.
A1- Passion and enthusiasm. I believe they are contagious and I want my Ss to feed off of my energy and love of teaching to build a love of learning for them. #TLAP

A1: Passion in the art room is my greatest strength...I am excited about every project my students are working on! That level of excitement makes for a tired teacher at the end of the day though! #tlap
A1: Passion & Enthusiasm!! I absolutely ❤️ what I do & strive to make each day amazing experiences for my Ss!!! I think those 2 attributes go hand in hand! ❤️☠️#TLAP
Mine's got to be "passion!" A couple of years ago I made the change to PreK and have never looked back! I love what I do and this is my calling!! I love working with the "littles" and their families. #tlap
#tlap A1 My greatest strength is Enthusiasm. 28 years of teaching and I wake up and want to go to work. Blessed beyond belief. If you realize the impact you have on the kids in your school, #Joy is produced.
A1: I would say rapport. We start our day with a talking circle so I know how students are feeling. I like checking in with students throughout the day too. #tlap
A1: Rapport is my strongest and carries through when the others are weak. I’m pretty much a big kid, and I keep current with trends, pop culture, etc. and the kids know I’m just as into it as they are. #tlap
A1: Enthusiasm and passion run together for me. I love math and my enthusiasm is contagious. Sometimes my students tell me to slow down because I get excited and talk too fast!! #tlap
I would have to say Passion. I have a passion to improve schools for kids and try to bring that passion everyday. Some days I am better than others, some ideas better then others, but my passion for what I do drives me to try to get better every day! #tlap
Melissa, Elementary Principal in Florida. A1: Passion! I like to think my excitement for teaching and learning and thirst for more rubs off on teachers and students. #tlap
A1: My greatest strength is to Ask an Analyze. It is so important to have a handle on each students level of understanding so I strive to make that a priority! #TLAP
A1 I'd have to say "Immersion" and "Enthusiasm". I LOVE learning new ideas in teaching and am always enthusiastic to give it a try. I would also say "Immersion" as I treat teaching like a performing art-I'm all in for my students-whether they are children or adults. #tlap
A1. Immersion. I listen to my students intently and try to always be “there” no matter what is going on outside of my classroom. When I’m in class, I’M IN CLASS. every child deserves a teacher who is really there... really present #tlap
#TLAP A1: Passion & Enthusiasm are tied! I get giddy over innovation, new perspectives, and especially PD. To tweak Buddy the Elf's phrase, "I love learning; learning is my favorite!" I try to spread my enthusiasm, and learning from other inspired educators helps to fuel my fire!
A1: My greatest strength would be enthusiasm. 😊 I bring that into the school environment by being enthusiastic about the passionate teachers I am surrounded by & by noticing the positives happening in their classrooms and acknowledging Ts for it. #tlap

A1:E for enthusiasm! I try my best to be enthusiastic about everything in and out of the classroom from planning, greeting and conversing with Ss, delivery of lessons, and interacting with my colleagues. Enthusiasm is contagious! #tlap
A1 impossible to hide my passion from my Ss, it just exudes in all that I do. They see me at my best when I get fired up over “silly” things like contractions, but my passion brings those “boring” lessons to life! They also sometimes see me struggle because I care so much. #tlap
A4 - We start out every class with about a 5 min meeting unless it just takes longer. It is not a matter of how to find the time, there is no way we can live without having them & they are too important. #LearnLAP#ghbookstudy#tlap

I never thought of it this way, but it is so true. With passion, everything else will follow. That must be why it was so hard for me to choose just one 🤔 #tlap
Q1) Passion to teach is at the top of my list. Students deserve someone who brings their A game each day. Passion allows us to reach for the best we can be as educators. #tlap
A1: Rapport is my biggest strength in the classroom. To have a strong rapport with Ss, they need to feel important. The 1st day of school, Ss made a list of rules they thought we should follow. We made our rules into a “class constitution,” and students 💜ed signing it! #TLAP

It’s tough. Making any of the arts relevant to the students isn’t always easy especially if their exposure to it hasn’t been all to positive. I used to teach art the way I was taught it-didn’t work for most kids. Trying to switch it up now #tlap
A2: Using fast food chains to help teach history. The moment I start talking @ChipotleTweets@Starbucks@SUBWAY and relate it to history, I know I've got my students interested in whatever else I have to say (though sometimes upset that I make them hungry!) #tlap

A2 (joining late) Relating whatever we are talking about to their lives. That might mean just rephrasing a passage with current slang. *Daisy is so extra* #tlap
A1: Entuhusiam. I’m not in a classroom yet, but when I am, I’m there, fully committed, happy, and eager to do whatever it takes to reach hearts and minds that are counting on me! I think that’s my strong suit 🤔 #conversechat#tlap
A2: When in the classroom, I loved to start with a song, crazy video playing, or someting intriguing on the board. Something to get them thinking "What is Mrs. Daws up to now?" #tlap
A2: Humor! We work in a high stakes and high stress career... it’s OK to laugh & teach kids how to be lighthearted & embrace each other’s quirkiness! #tlap
A2) A very simple hook that I like to use is the "Friday Cliffhanger." Just before I dismiss at the end of the week, I leave the class with, "I can't wait to next week when we get to..." #tlap
A1: Passion, Rapport, and Enthusiasm are my top strengths in P.I.R.A.T.E and I bring those in with my eternally upbeat personality, the passion pours into subjects to create experiences, and by sharing my passions with Ss. #tlap
A2: the most recent hook i used was showing a video of #antcanada to help my students get an idea of ant colonies before they had to read about it. They loved it and thought it was gross at the same time. #TLAP

A2 Yes!! I also like “my students last year did this in less than 3 minutes” or “last year’s class did 4 in a row” or “in all my years teaching, no one has ever...” #tlap
My biggest hook is to show up places my kids least expect it like a performance at the mall or a big little league game, I can also hook students when I know something about then that they didn't think I did #tlap
A2 #tlap I call it the "Door Decoration" hook. They see it when they get off the bus and then can't wait to get to Science. This lesson involved bouncy ball seating and they went mad to get to class first!
A2: My favorite way to hook them? Give them a real audience. Lessons and PBL are authentic when Ss get real purpose and can share. This PBL had students display learning on lockers with QR codes to videos. #TLAP
A2: I try to engage my students and hook them into learning by laughing and having fun. I want to help make school a memorable experience for them. #tlap
#tlap A2; Using music, movie clips, rhyming the grammar & punctuation rules, costumes, and the interests, career choices, and talents of my students. My goal is to put their learning into action.
A2: I like costumes as well or themes in general. When I do tracings for teachers after school I like to make it fun! I have done Willy winks as well as a movie theme! Teachers deserve hooks too! #tlap
A2- I teach at a global school and integrate global learning daily, so I absolutely love using new cultures, foods and ideas to connect a standard. Keeps kids wanting more( not just the food😊) #tlap

A2 In science we have all the great phenomena to use. We can just show them something cool, and then say "Now go figure out the WHY!!" They love a mystery. #tlap
A2: I tell riddles. Like - what does a pipe cleaner, tin foil, and a Wrinkle in Time have in common? Oh nothing you say? Just wait 😆 then they are super interested in what I am talking about. I LOVE showing video clips. Teaching point of view with toy story? Count me in! #tlap
A2: OOOH - so many good hooks! One of my favorite takeaways from reading #tlap. Love mystery hooks - a word, question, etc. and also active ones - get them up and moving/discussing right away.
A2: One of my favorite hooks: Dressing up with ties to curriculum and literature. Here I am dressed like Amelia Bedelia to talk about multiple meaning words and phrases. #tlap
#TLAP#TLAP A2 Are hooks have been the speakers that we have provided for our Ss. We have been fortunate to have icons of history share their views with our Ss and engage them in history. Mike Eruzione sharing his story brought interest into the Cold War and YS-USSR relations.
A2 The "Props" hook to help Ss see, feel, hear what they are learning-really helps make it stick. I also really ❤️ the "Opportunistic" Hook-if you can create synergy between/among different concepts/💡s you are teaching, it make is all the more meaningful to your Ss. #tlap
A2: I love all the hooks! Music (everything is better if you sing it!), humor, storytelling, costumes (You can catch wearing something on my head), and surprises! #tlap
I got to teach Hunger Games the year the first movie came out. I divided 120 kids into factions. We threw spears and everything. We also went DEEP into the literature. Turns out it's not just about kids killing kids. #tlap
A2: Not sure if this is a hook but they were sure curious when they walked in after semester and saw our chairs in a circle with the tape on the floor! #tlap
A2 love using music and create scenarios that I put my students in to break the code or figure out why things are a certain way. They play detective and have to collaborate and work together to figure it out #tlap

A2: I like to hook “energize” my kids by creating connections between the learning and their day to day lives. Different forms of questioning typically followed by group discussion and reflection. #TLAP

Q2) The Mozart hook is a favorite. Songs have a way of staying with us. Finding the right one to incorporate into a lesson is priceless. Kindergarten students love to sing. Jack Hartman is a favorite! #tlap
A2: Hook: Laugh with your Ss! Teaching K through 8 means having a sense of humor that fits different ages. Maybe that makes me weird. And I’m ok with being goofy and weird because it makes my job (and the students’ experiences in the art room) much more fun! #TLAP

A2. One of the simplest, but oh-so-effective hook is the top secret lesson. I’ll say “I wasn’t supposed to tell you this but...” or “don’t tell the principal, but I’m about to teach you a top secret, short cut to understand this tricky skill.” Hooks ‘em every time #tlap

Offering choice not only produces relevance, but unleashes creativity in the classroom.

A2: Gotta Love @Sphero & @SpheroEdu! They serve as an excellent hook! In this case they serve as “graveyard” diggers- students were introduced to arrays! They had to make a graveyard for “unwanted” words for Halloween! #TLAP
A3. Science is allllll about real-world. I bring forth enthusiasm about each topic and allow the students to question this “real-world” scenario. Then they take their questions to Google and apply it #tlap
A2 My hook for kids is to ask them what their interests are and go from there. Kids like to talk about what they love! Then to keep checking in on them and asking them about their interest really helps to connect and hook them. #tlap
A3: I tell my teachers to start with the real world and work your way backwards. What is really happening and then find the content that relates to that. #tlap

A3: When you ask Ss why they go to school ... many say, “To learn”. It is SOOO much more than this. I love to share our district’s mission statement w/ them. I want to inspire and prepare them to be responsible and productive champions of their future!! #tlap
A3 I think this is always been a strong suit of business teachers! I like to talk to people who use the software than on teaching and asked them how to use it or don't. I then give those examples to students. #tlap

Have students pursue passion projects. If Ss explore what they want at home no matter what it is that they are passionate I have to think it is more valuable than route tasks they often see for HW... #tlap

A4 Cont. Whatever I do, it must be working, so far this year, students have made a 3D printed catapult, a wooden trebuchet, a homemade stylus, and a few other things. These were not asked for, but were extensions of things we did in class & they brought in to show everyone! #tlap
A4: I think letting students have a voice in all they do is key. Making things fun and interesting to them is always great but it’s much more meaningful when they know they had a part in their own success. #conversechat#tlap
