Rapport.. I take time to know my students and build a great relationship with them. I listen to them tell me about their day or things they think are important enough to share. I encourage the class to do the same #tlap

#tlap A!: Remembering "Passion" has made the biggest impact on how and why I do things, but immersion comes naturally for me and I like to create experiences for students.

A1: I think building rapport is my strength. I like to always build a relationship with Ss and Ts that I am working with. When it comes to building rapport I think a key to it is being a good listener. #tlap
A1. Rapport! I love building relationships with my kids. I love getting to know them and all of their quirks, how they learn best and who they are. #tlap
A1:E for enthusiasm! I try my best to be enthusiastic about everything in and out of the classroom from planning, greeting and conversing with Ss, delivery of lessons, and interacting with my colleagues. Enthusiasm is contagious! #tlap
A1 impossible to hide my passion from my Ss, it just exudes in all that I do. They see me at my best when I get fired up over “silly” things like contractions, but my passion brings those “boring” lessons to life! They also sometimes see me struggle because I care so much. #tlap

It’s tough. Making any of the arts relevant to the students isn’t always easy especially if their exposure to it hasn’t been all to positive. I used to teach art the way I was taught it-didn’t work for most kids. Trying to switch it up now #tlap
A2: Using fast food chains to help teach history. The moment I start talking @ChipotleTweets@Starbucks@SUBWAY and relate it to history, I know I've got my students interested in whatever else I have to say (though sometimes upset that I make them hungry!) #tlap

A2 (joining late) Relating whatever we are talking about to their lives. That might mean just rephrasing a passage with current slang. *Daisy is so extra* #tlap
A1: Entuhusiam. I’m not in a classroom yet, but when I am, I’m there, fully committed, happy, and eager to do whatever it takes to reach hearts and minds that are counting on me! I think that’s my strong suit 🤔 #conversechat#tlap
A2: When in the classroom, I loved to start with a song, crazy video playing, or someting intriguing on the board. Something to get them thinking "What is Mrs. Daws up to now?" #tlap
A2: Humor! We work in a high stakes and high stress career... it’s OK to laugh & teach kids how to be lighthearted & embrace each other’s quirkiness! #tlap

A2 Yes!! I also like “my students last year did this in less than 3 minutes” or “last year’s class did 4 in a row” or “in all my years teaching, no one has ever...” #tlap
My biggest hook is to show up places my kids least expect it like a performance at the mall or a big little league game, I can also hook students when I know something about then that they didn't think I did #tlap
A2 #tlap I call it the "Door Decoration" hook. They see it when they get off the bus and then can't wait to get to Science. This lesson involved bouncy ball seating and they went mad to get to class first!
A2: My favorite way to hook them? Give them a real audience. Lessons and PBL are authentic when Ss get real purpose and can share. This PBL had students display learning on lockers with QR codes to videos. #TLAP
A2: I try to engage my students and hook them into learning by laughing and having fun. I want to help make school a memorable experience for them. #tlap

A2: I like costumes as well or themes in general. When I do tracings for teachers after school I like to make it fun! I have done Willy winks as well as a movie theme! Teachers deserve hooks too! #tlap

A2 In science we have all the great phenomena to use. We can just show them something cool, and then say "Now go figure out the WHY!!" They love a mystery. #tlap
A2: I tell riddles. Like - what does a pipe cleaner, tin foil, and a Wrinkle in Time have in common? Oh nothing you say? Just wait 😆 then they are super interested in what I am talking about. I LOVE showing video clips. Teaching point of view with toy story? Count me in! #tlap
A2: OOOH - so many good hooks! One of my favorite takeaways from reading #tlap. Love mystery hooks - a word, question, etc. and also active ones - get them up and moving/discussing right away.
A2: One of my favorite hooks: Dressing up with ties to curriculum and literature. Here I am dressed like Amelia Bedelia to talk about multiple meaning words and phrases. #tlap

I got to teach Hunger Games the year the first movie came out. I divided 120 kids into factions. We threw spears and everything. We also went DEEP into the literature. Turns out it's not just about kids killing kids. #tlap
A2: Not sure if this is a hook but they were sure curious when they walked in after semester and saw our chairs in a circle with the tape on the floor! #tlap
A2 love using music and create scenarios that I put my students in to break the code or figure out why things are a certain way. They play detective and have to collaborate and work together to figure it out #tlap

Q2) The Mozart hook is a favorite. Songs have a way of staying with us. Finding the right one to incorporate into a lesson is priceless. Kindergarten students love to sing. Jack Hartman is a favorite! #tlap

A4: sketchbooks are a great way to get kids making art without making it like homework. I tell Ss it’s a place to practice making mistakes. Sketchbooks have drawings in them, but also poems, notes about artists, even written conversations between students. #TLAP
A5: Let kids take ownership of their learning and use it creatively. Recently my kids did a close read of a text about Mars rovers. They then used this to create a short video about what’s demanded of a Mars rover scientist. #tlap

I too believe that this is extremely important. Students know when you care and believe in them. The old adage is true that children will always remember how you made them feel. They must feel valued. #tlap
A6: We like to greet our Ss different ways in the morning! Sometimes it’s silly costumes, signs, or bubbles!! It starts our day on a positive note & lets Ss & Ps know that we’re excited that they are there! #TLAP

Amazing how talking football perks up Ss. I told a class that I started Marvin Jones on my FF team after consulting 3 different sources. Likewise, Ss should use 3 sources when doing research. The quietest kid in my class looked at me and said “You have a fantasy team?” 😅 #tlap

A6: I try to find something they are interested in, like football, etc. I will even watch a game w/the team they like so we can talk about it the next day. Its also fun to joke w/3rd graders. "Man, your team isn't looking so good this season, you should become a Cowboy fan!#TLAP
A6 love creating post cards that say Good News from our school and then sending a couple home each week. I also love taking pics printing them and send home to Ps with a nice note.#tlap
A6 I start a pen pal relationship with kids the summer before I get them in class- I write each a personalized letter with my address and invite to write me and end up writing kids all summer and really really knowing the kids by first day !! (And their lest nerds!)! #tlap

A6. I ❤️spending time with my kiddos, laughing, dancing, greeting them in AM, playing their 🎶 playlist, hands on learning, games, fun. I enjoy everyday and don’t take a minute for granted! #TLAP
A6: Each week I chose a S & write their parents the most over the top “bragadocious” #”email about how amazing their kid is, with examples and reasons. I email it to the parents and print a copy for the kid. It’s about a page 1ong. Every kid wants one badly. #TLAP@Georgetown204

#tlap A7: Spark is the one word. Poe Damron said in The Last Jedi that "We provide the spark to light the fire." I want them to leave my room with many ideas that they will put into action.
A7: Successful Everyone has their own definition of success but my kids are successful. Maybe a grade, attendance, promotion, or just surviving my class. LOL #tlap

Absolutely. If the principal can dance in front of the student body...maybe the kid will be a little less self-conscious about reading aloud in class. The little things matter and school climate is at the core. #tlap.

A4 I frequently encourage my ss to look for more examples of what we are learning in the classroom outside of school. For example, we are studying Newton's Laws of Motion now. Plenty of "Real World" examples for them to look for.
