Welcome to our Wayne Learns Twitter Chat sponsored by @BDU_Scholars & @BDUtv_News and led by myself and @david_sekulaBDU Let's start with some intros and don't forget to use #wearewayne at the end of each of your tweets!
I'm Rebecca Daugherty, proud principal of @BDUtv_News Ben Davis University High School and one of the two twitter chat moderators for this evening. #wearewayne
It's just now sinking in how amazing it is that @WayneTwpSchools has an annual PD day that's led mostly by in-house employees. What other district has enough leaders to offer breakout sessions to over 2000 educators? #wearewayne#WayneLearns
Alright, now that we've gotten through some introductions, we're ready for Q1: Share with us to start our conversation whether your focus for Wayne Learns sessions this year was personal, professional, or a mixture of both? #wearewayne
A1: I really enjoyed a wider variety of options this year that appealed to me personally, so I had a mixture of both for the first time with a 50/50 split. #wearewayne
A1: Definitely both personal and professional for me this year! Enjoyed the mix leading a session as well as attending a variety of sessions covering a multitude of topics! #wearewayne
A1: This year's Wayne Learns was awesome! So many interesting topics and I got a chance to participate as a instructor as well as a student. I loved every minute of it. Of course the food trucks were great! #WeAreWayne
A1 more personal... we get a lot of professional development in Wayne and I rarely take time for myself, so it was a breath of fresh air today. #wearewayne
A2: Even though I’m approximately 20 years away, I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation regarding retirement. I know retirement starts from day one. Revisiting how it works helps me make adjustments today for greater impact on my retirement down the road. #wearewayne
A2: I really enjoyed learning about the @BenDavisNGC 's use of Skyward's ability to allow teachers to enter discipline referrals electronically through their gradebook! #wearewayne
A2: So tough to choose, but “I’m a good person, isn’t that enough” was the winner for me. I can’t wait to read @DebbyIrving’s book Growinf Up White. #wearewayne
A2 Disease Prevention was very informative and favorite of the personal development... and loved the OWL training we received during the World Language Teachers session. #wearewayne
A2: So tough to choose, but “I’m a good person, isn’t that enough” was the winner for me. I can’t wait to read @DebbyIrving’s book Growing Up White. #wearewayne
Q2: It really is difficult to choose just one, but I would say Debbie Irving with I Am A Good Person, Isn't that Enough? Was very eye opening. Also, I enjoyed teaching today and having our group dissect sheep brains and learn more about SEL. #WeAreWayne
A3: I learned that leading a session provided me the opportunity for early sign up! The process of signing up was easy and the benefit of early sign up meant no sessions were full! #wearewayne
A2: Jumpstarting Readers when they Plateau with Kim Yaris. Kim taught us how to look beyond reading levels and intervene to improve reading. #wearewayne
One final question from my corner before turning things over to @david_sekulaBDU to continue leading our chat. Q3: What did you think about the ease of signing up this year and were you able to get into all of the sessions you really wanted? #wearewayne
Q4: Having led a session myself today, I enjoy feedback on my leadership and instruction. So lets hear from you, what is one session you might not recommend to your colleagues or didn’t find valuable and why? Thanks! #wearewayne
A3: I'll admit that I did not sign up first thing this year, however I was very happy to find that there were still many sessions of interest to me when I signed up the 2nd day of our fall break! #wearewayne
A3 The great benefit of leading a session... I got to choose before it was opened up to all so nothing was full. The only disappointment was when I wanted 2 sessions offered at the same time and that was the only offering for the day for those sessions. #wearewayne
A3: love the catalogue with helpful tutorials, session descriptions, etc. and being able to sign up early when you are presenting! Also, nice that everything is digital. #niceperk#wearewayne
I really enjoyed “Cultural Responsiveness 101” many ideas and points of view shared from different backgrounds! Very informative and felt like a safe place to express your opinions and think of how to help our students. We can try this exercises with our building. #WeAreWayne
A4 None. They were all good. I wouldn't call the insurance meeting thrilling, but it was necessary and important for answering questions. The rest were very, very good. #wearewayne
My least favorite session was actually the retirement session. I think it was good information and the presenter was very detailed, but the session was very large (I do better in small group settings) and it was also my last session of the day. #wearewayne
A4: I benefited from all my sessions. I felt like this was the best year with many types of sessions being offered. It is beneficial with the way we do PD in Wayne because each person chooses what they need or what their interest are. #WeAreWayne
A4: I learned something new and had key takeaways from each session! I always leave our PD day feeling rejuvenated and ready to implement something the next day! #wearewayne
A4: my last session ended up not being what I expected. It was supposed to be about helping build routines which I thought would help@me@be more efficient, but it ended up being time with a life coach who wanted to address individual problems. #wearewayne
Q5: Lastly, what is one suggestion you have for hte Conference Planning Committee for improvements to our Wayne Learns Conference and sessions?
#wearewayne
A4 That's a hard one! I did go to one that was not up to par as the others but I value that the presenter chose to present. It did not have any handouts, was confusing to follow and was teacher led - discussions came when audience had questions. #wearewayne
I really enjoyed the diversity of the offerings, so my recommendation would be to continue to offer sessions that appeal to employees both personally and professionally. It allows everyone to find something valuable in the sessions no matter their position. #wearewayne
A5: I am really at a loss for suggestions. I thought everything went so well, and I learned so much!!! I did have trouble getting the feedback link to work. #WeAreWayne
I have to say that, as a parent, it makes me thrilled to see that my son is part of a community of teachers that are passionate about education. #wearewayne
A5: This is one of my favorite days of the year! It’s fun to see friends from around the district and learn from the experts! Wayne definitely leads!! #wearewayne
