I'm a life-long learner & educator currently serving AK Ts and Ss through independent contracts to provide PD around the state. I'm based in Juneau but have taught in Ketchikan and Fairbanks. #akedchat
Nice to have you on tonight @spiralEDU Thanks for reminding me that I completely forgot to answer my own intro question! I think last time I took one was PRAXIS maybe 15 years ago! #akedchat
#akedchat What other tests are out there for people outside of formal schooling? CPA exam for one. Is that an important exam? How about the ones for doctors and lawyers?

#akedchat A5: MAP window is opening for Winter Administration in one school district I work with. Ss will be taking MAP just after Thanksgiving. Our school district also gives AIMS Web to K-2. WIDA.
My mom is a flight attendant and the recurrent training she has to do every year has a Q&A test portion. They have a cut score and they have to pass to keep their jobs. #akedchat
#akedchat While we teachers are certainly entitled to our own opinions about standardized tests, I have a strong objection to Ts who pass a negative attitude to Ss. Ss don't have a choice. I think we should make it the best experience possible for Ss no matter our opinion.
#akedchat A6: When I was in elem clsrm, my unspoken advice was as strong as my spoken advice. I played up the positives: different schedule for a change, special snacks, downtime between test sessions, etc. Mostly my Ss were perfectly fine w/testing week. What do you do?
#akedchat A7: @Catlin_Tucker says "When answering sentence completion questions with two blanks (two words omitted), always focus on one blank at a time. If any of the words do not fit in that blank, then you can eliminate that entire choice from consideration."
#akedchat A8: After T's shown attitude toward testing, environment is next most important. Ss must feel comfortable and safe, physically and emotionally.
#akedchat A10: Even when I taught 3rd grade, I discussed specific results of testing with my Ss. Kept it positive. A T knows her Ss and knows what to emphasize to encourage Ss. Never degrading. Used to set goals with Ss.
#akedchat A11: Students take their cues from their teachers and parents. T should make sure parents understand results and help with attitudes and expectations.
#akedchat A11: I encouraged my Ss to use the results in positive ways, to set realistic goals. Not goals to do better on tests, but goals to learn something new or a specific area to focus on.
