Let's GEAUX!
Good morning! I'm Julie, co-founder of #NT2t from Missouri, USA. I'm a tech trainer at a university. When it's cold outside I love an "adult" hot chocolate, soft blanket, fire, and a good book/movie.
Hello! This is Melissa, and I am a pre-service high school math teacher studying at Grove City College. I love anything that involves snow, but other than that I hate the cold. #NT2t
I'm Jeremy, a parent of two girls in school and with a day job at a Connecticut education agency. Your friendly neighborhood moderator prefers staying inside in winter. #brrrr#nt2t
Hello! I'm Mackenzie Ehrhardt I'm a pre-service teacher studying at Grove City College. I love the cold and my favorite thing to do it the cold is anything in the snow. #NT2T
#nt2t Hi! Gwena, HS Spanish T from IN. I hate cold weather and snow and ice, so my favorite thing to do in cold weather is Netflix binge and/or watch movies. (Note: This is only my fourth year teaching in classroom, but the state only counts it as the end of my third year).
I'm about to post the first question (Q1). Begin your answer with "A1." Then answer Question 2 with "A2," etc. And remember to include the #nt2t hashtag!
Hi, Jeremy. I'm doing at least the first part of #NT2T from a parking lot waiting for the start of a Christmas brunch. Did you notice that it gets chilly in December?
A1: By having a class Twitter page, parents and the community can see what is happening in the class. Teachers can also display student work here to show achievement. #NT2t
A1: We can use twitter to include parents as well as the students. We can post student work on twitter so the parents can see what their kids are up to in class. #NT2T
A1) Tech of all types has the ability to serve kids and families of all abilities. Twitter can bring us all together to communicate and learn and grow together. #nt2t
A1- I have found great teaching/classroom ideas for inclusion. I also share that I use Twitter as a teacher. I can ask questions and find great answers here. #nt2t
#nt2t#nt2t A1: I post pics of Ss doing daily activities. They love it and often retweet! Here is the most recent one - Ss made and shared Day of Dead bread w class! We paused learning to eat and have a little mini party. :-)
If you are new to Twitter, or an undergrad, please know we all WANT to hear your responses. We want to interact with you and learn FROM you. Please don't be afraid to interact during the chat. #NT2t
#nt2t A1: Twitter is great way to learn new ideas as we found out from @DrRamBio who helped us with our plant growth unit , seeing a real university lab.
A1 Seeing their teachers active on social media might help break the ice with students and give common ground for communication that goes beyond stilted classroom presentations. #nt2t
If a teacher sees Twitter as "one more thing to do," show them THIS. Empower kids and they'll develop digital citizenship skills at the same time! #digcit#nt2t
Awesome Gwena! And parents/community members love to see what's happening in your room. Really gives a feeling of transparency. Also inspires other Ts and gives them ideas. #NT2t
A2: If students are able to use personal Twitter accounts in the classroom, the teacher could assign exit tweets. This could show the teacher where student understanding is, and where to begin the lesson next class. #NT2t
A1 Seeing their teachers active on social media might help break the ice with students and give common ground for communication that goes beyond stilted classroom presentations. #nt2t
A1 We can use twitter to get our students involved, and to get the parents involved. It is a great way to show who we are as teachers and what our classrooms will look like. #nt2t
A2: We can have students post their work and comment on other students work. This will allow them to be sharing their work with each other as well as being able to engage in discussions about it. #NT2T
A1: Having a class twitter account where students can post their works includes the students' families and communities in what is going on. Sharing every student's work is a great way to show inclusion in your classroom as well. #NT2t
Me too Katy! The insights I get from others around the world is invaluable! I would never get this global perspective otherwise. It's all because others are willing to share. #NT2t
A1: I love this idea of invoving students on Twitter. You all have wonderful ideas on how to incorporate this in the classroom. But, what happens in under developed areas where not all students have internet access at home? #nt2t
A2: There are many experts in a variety of fields that are willing to chat with students. That's a great way for Ps and Admins to see the value and how tech can be used for learning. #NT2t
A2- modeling how to use Twitter for learning and showing off excellent work. Giving students and parents a voice. Modeling how to use Twitter in a positive way. #NT2t
What an awesome idea! Being new to Twitter, does the student have access to a "class page" in order to report or are they able to do that with an individual account? #NT2t
A2 Parents, administrators and any other Twitter skeptics need to see proof of success. Get examples from your network of how Twitter made a difference for the better at other schools. #nt2t
A2: think the easiest way is using Twitter for what it is made for: communication. Give dates, program information, reminders,... - a conversation platform. #nt2t
A1: I love this idea of invoving students on Twitter. You all have wonderful ideas on how to incorporate this in the classroom. But, what happens in under developed areas where not all students have internet access at home? #nt2t
A2 - By using twitter for communication, sharing resources, and showing student work in the classroom, I think it will be easier for parents to see the benefit to using twitter for learning #nt2t
A2- modeling how to use Twitter for learning and showing off excellent work. Giving students and parents a voice. Modeling how to use Twitter in a positive way. #NT2t
A3: We can use twitter to build the students reading and writing skills by having them tweet out something about class every day, this will help them practice writing. And then have them comment on someone else's tweet will improve both reading and writing. #NT2T
A2 We can use twitter in the classroom and make it apart of the homework and then the parents will want to get involved so that they can see what their students have been dong. #nt2t
A3: The teacher could post articles for students to read, and they could have a mini Twitter chat with questions about the reading. Students could also comment feedback on their peers' Tweets. #NT2t
My Teaching with Twitter links on My Twitter page https://t.co/34lQEBFnJI
So many ways to use Twitter to connect students to the world and share, collaborate and learn with one another. #NT2t#edchat#edtechchat
A1: working on a non-digital version of twitter to use as formative assessment. Using the basic pieces of twitter, but not fighting our internet filter #nt2t
A2: Posting student work and having students tweet out what they did in class and what they learnt is a great way to use it as a learning tool. It is also a great way to connect with other classes and learn from them! #NT2t
A2 We can use twitter in the classroom and make it apart of the homework and then the parents will want to get involved so that they can see what their students have been doing. #nt2t
Yes, but search for it first in the search bar to see if it is being used or HOW it might already be used. If it is inappropriate' make up a new one! #NT2t
My class has a social media journal where they record their tweets and post later on Twitter and sometimes we post them on our outside wall so others can view them. #nt2t
Just reposted Q2. If you're having trouble seeing the Qs, that's sometimes a Twitter thing. Helps for all to quote-tweet their answers so others see the Qs. Also find my posts of the Qs by opening my account. #nt2t
A3: For reading: have a book talk with another class as you are reading the same book. This can also be used for writing - create book talk questions together. #NT2t
A3 Twitter now allowing 280 characters opens the door to mini-storytelling, which gives more opportunity to write and use decent grammar without resorting to irritating shortcuts. #nt2t
A3: Student have to be able to write concisely and clearly to tweet what they have learnt, and they have to be able to comprehend other people's tweets, as well as educational links that people tweet. #NT2t
A3: We can use twitter to build the students reading and writing skills by having them tweet out something about class every day, this will help them practice writing. And then have them comment on someone else's tweet will improve both reading and writing. #NT2T
A3- I have students summarize their learning in 140 characters. “Tweet me your learning.” They understand what I mean and practice summarizing AND they review what we learned. #nt2t#TEACHers
A3: The teacher could post articles for students to read, and they could have a mini Twitter chat with questions about the reading. Students could also comment feedback on their peers' Tweets. #NT2t
A3 - Using twitter chats in the classroom to discuss a book or topic would be a great way to not only incorporate technology, but also help students with reading, writing, and discussing ideas with peers. #nt2t
A4: With internet using increasing in classrooms, teachers need to be teaching their students to be responsible digital citizens. Teachers should be monitoring posts, and addressing any misuse. #NT2t
A4: I think that making the students aware of their digital footprint is a great first step in helping them realize that they need to be safe and appropriate online, which would include their twitter. #NT2T

My class has a social media journal where they record their tweets and post later on Twitter and sometimes we post them on our outside wall so others can view them. #nt2t
If students used Twitter to post work they are personally proud of it could become a type of "portfolio" for them. Additionally, teachers could see what students have really enjoyed doing in their class and the work in which they are proud of. #NT2t
A4: Teachers can set up certain people for the class account to follow, and prohibit students from following other people without teacher approval. #NT2t
A4: It all starts by learning how to be a #digcit BEFORE you touch tech and social media! If you don't, it's like giving kids a chef knife without going over safety. #NT2t
A4 Teachers can make sure that all their students accounts are private or the class twitter is private. They can tell the students that twitter is something that will only be used in the classroom and that their twitter will be monitored. #nt2t
#nt2t A4: I teach ss that we are to respect each other on social media and we are not to give out personal info. All tweets are prescreened before sending out. #nt2t
A4 Teachers need to make clear from Day 1 that they need to monitor classroom Twitter conversations not because they're nosy but because social media has bullies and trolls waiting to do mischief. #nt2t
A4 - Teaching students about their digital footprint as well as letting them know what dangers there are on social media would be helpful. Don't scare the kids, but make them aware #nt2t
#NT2t A3: Instead of text in with abbreviations, Ss type out words on Twitter. Also since I teach Spanish oh, I like the idea of someone else posted of having my students write and post exit tickets on Twitter.
To their own account they can post whatever they like. If you are using a school/class # you really need to address appropriateness. It really all comes down to teaching #digcit first. #NT2t
#nt2t
I think the safest thing to do is teach digital citizenship. We can block, filter and monitor everything, but in the end, they are going to be in the real world and should know how to navigate that.
A5: introduce yourself, let people know you are there, ask a question or respond to a question, follow people, favorite things START at the pace you are comfortable with! #nt2t
A5: New teachers can join as many ed chats as they want and just participate. This is a great way to start building a PLN and a group of people on twitter who you can learn and grow from. #NT2T
A5: I have participated in several chats since joining Twitter, and have felt very included. Just answer the questions and be involved. It's a great way to learn and develop your professional learning network. #NT2t
A4- teachers can model how to communicate, even when we disagree. Remind kids it’s okay to disagree, but it’s not okay to be mean. Ask them if they would want their Grandma to read or see it. Hearing about the digital footprint from all teachers helps. #nt2t#digitalfootprint
I would capture the bullying post and show it in class. Have an open and honest discussion about it. Focus on building empathy and what empathy means- what it looks like/sounds like, etc. #NT2t
Good point, Julie! Teachers have a unique position of playing opposite the parent, so we are the 'other' adult to teach and train kids, as well as look out for them. #nt2t
A5: participate, take the chance to learn, read, feel free to ask questions - edchats are the best #PD I know. You habe the chance to learn from colleagues and about educational systems from all over the world. #nt2t
#NT2t Note: I am new to the classroom, but not to teaching. Before I became a classroom teacher, I taught my own and other children through homeschooling for 10 years.
Hard to change the mindset that leads schools to block. In my mind they're blocking a learning, growth, and communication opportunity, which is a peculiar position for schools to take. #digcit#nt2t
Twitter is blocked on our student network. No phone policy in place. As of now, Twitter in my classroom is not a good option for students. I just amaze them when I say I’m using Twitter.
Go you! I would love to hear how teaching your own kids at home affects how you teach in the traditional setting. My mom is a homeschooling mom of about 15 years! #nt2t
Agree, it SHOULD start at home, but that's not always the case 😳 This is why I think it's a great idea to have a #digcit night for parents; teach them how to use social media responsibly. #NT2t
A5- New teachers can ask questions and follow recommendations from veteran teachers. Teachers on Twitter like to share. #nt2t#NQT#teacherleader#teachertraining
So true! #nt2t was my first chat and I had no idea what I was doing. I tweeted out for help, and everyone was happy to point me in the right direction! #NT2t
#nt2t

A6: A great way to help others is to simply post your ideas and reply to theirs. With posting your own ideas you may inspire or help another teacher without even knowing you are doing it. #NT2T
Love this Lisa, yes! Although when you are new, you might feel like you don't have anything to contribute. I would like to put that fear to rest - we WANT to learn from you. Ur perspective is different than ours! #NT2t
A5: This is my first Twitter chat and I have felt included. I think jumping into the conversation is important. As shown today, the education community on Twitter is here to help and discuss all people interested in doing the same. #nt2t
fwiw, I've sometimes had the same problem as a participant in certain chats at certain times. So I've had to follow the feed on the moderator's Twitter page. #nt2t
A6: Helping others involves asking insightful questions, answering questions honestly and thoughtfully, and being accepting of everyone's ideas and thoughts. #NT2t
A6- recommendations for finding follow up information. I’ve found many useful twitter accounts, classroom apps, and articles that help me to be a better teacher. #NT2t#teachergoals#teacher
A5: This is my first Twitter chat and I have felt included. I think jumping into the conversation is important. As shown today, the education community on Twitter is here to help and discuss all people interested in doing the same. #nt2t
#NT2t A6: Positive, uplifting, encouraging words are always helpful, inspiring. Also a timely example was posting the picture of the ?'s for another participant in this chat. I also think something that's sometimes overlooked is vulnerability and asking questions that we have.
Yes, and please, do NOT be afraid to ask questions! Each of us was in the same boat as you at one point. The difference now is we are here to support you! #NT2t
#NT2t Twitter is a great place for aha moments. The other day one of my students asked why bananas from the tropics are so much cheaper than blueberries from the USA. A tweetable moment. #nt2t
A5. Just join in - don't sit on the fringe of the conversation, ask questions - don't be afraid, and share what you are doing/thinking/enduring.... Your Twitter network is just a big friendly staffroom. Enjoy it as such. #nt2t
Agree, it SHOULD start at home, but that's not always the case 😳 This is why I think it's a great idea to have a #digcit night for parents; teach them how to use social media responsibly. #NT2t
Yes, that's is the thing about a #PLN It is yours, and only yours! You make it what you want to be but...you have to be willing to put in some effort to build. #NT2t
No. They post but I tell them to call me over to check Tweet. We are also not Tweeting constantly during the day so there is time to check tweets. #nt2t
One piece of advice I always give to newbies....don't make your #PLN an echo chamber (although you will at first). Make sure you follow those who challenge ur thinking so you learn & grown outside ur box. #NT2t
To friend new and old; THANK YOU for joining the chat today and being so supportive of #NT2t Our whole team appreciates you and all you do each and every day!
