Alright, let’s start with Q1. How do I know if my students are learning? #isedchat #NAISAC
  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:09 PM EST
    Sorry I am late…Shari from Orlando. #isedchat
  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:09 PM EST
A1: Hopefully when they can explain their answers to each other and/or me. #isedchat
  • gephillip Mar 1 @ 9:11 PM EST
What constitutes an explanation? #isedchat #NAISAC

  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:13 PM EST
That is a good question! Talking through their thoughts in relation to the problem. #isedchat
  • gephillip Mar 1 @ 9:15 PM EST
My students are sometimes really concrete (working on this) and I make them give at least three examples. #isedchat

Any time a student can explain there thinking is valuable. The more practice they get with this, the better. Do you have any specific strategies you use? #isedchat

  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:20 PM EST
Depends on the age/development of Ss. Modeling my thinking, letting them draw their answers then use that as a talking guide. #isedchat

Yes, let them talk and see their thinking is crucial. #isedchat #NAISAC

All right, here is Q2. How can we help our students/others become better thinkers? #isedchat #NAISAC
  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:25 PM EST
    A2: practice & modeling #isedchat
  • gephillip Mar 1 @ 9:26 PM EST
How do you model it for your students? #isedchat
    In reply to @swladis
  • gephillip Mar 1 @ 9:30 PM EST
A2: We model by making sure others can see what we are thinking. We utilize whiteboard space well. #isedchat
  • swladis Mar 1 @ 9:31 PM EST
Starting with...”I think.” Can be done with math problems & discussing literature aspects, & why different cultures settled in an area. #isedchat
