#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
Hey #fcpslearn! Michael A. from #122edchat in Chicago. I am the #STEM Facilitator for @SmartLab_tweets from @Simmonsknights1. I am joining via Tweetdeck tonight because we are entrenched in final preparations for Lion King. Sleep. Just need some sleep.
A1: I can't think one PD that sticks out over another, however, the ones that have been the most effective always stress hands-on learning, usable takeaways, are dynamic, and offer ongoing support.
#fcpslearn
A1: Participating in VSUP has been a game changer for me. I think what has made it so great is all the time I spend actually creating things. Rather than sit and get, I’m actively contributing! #fcpslearn
A1: Any time that you have the ability to take things for a "test drive' rather than just hearing about it is always a win. Needs to be hands-on so you can get a full-picture experience. #fcpslearn
A1: Instructional coaching training through Learning Forward in our county because it was relevant and we were given time to process and practice information. #fcpslearn
A1: best PD session I ever attended was our April 11 instructional focus session where we shared our professional learning logic model with our peers and got feedback from them #fcpslearn
A1: Literacy PD offered by @VBEstill@andrealpayne payne related to stages of literacy development & how to select appropriate literacy tasks, administer & analyze data, make appropriate instructional decisions based on learner characteristics. #fcpslearn#LoveLiteracyLearning

A1 I love attending the @childengineer conference #vcec every year! So many great ideas for incorporating STEAM, robotics, makerspace, etc Have presented past 2 years and gotten so much out of attending and presenting #fcpslearn#champforkids
A1: We had a content specific pd session with @AMPoProse, a local poet who teaches at Davidson College. It was fabulous because he gave us unique insight into how to teach poetry. I enjoyed discussing poetry with him & coming away from the session with ideas to apply. #fcpslearn
A2: The least beneficial PD has traditionally been sit-and-get, lacking takeaways, allow for passive attendance, and lack enthusiasm (even from the leader).
#fcpslearn
A2: any session where the tech hasn’t been vetted prior and is taught by someone who has not been in a classroom in a long time. I don’t merely mean hasn’t taught—I mean hasn’t been in a classroom to work with kids and observe #fcpslearn
A2 PD sessions that assume that everyone in the room is at the same level of understanding or experience with a topic. Include in the explanation what level you will be addressing or have breakout differentiated sessions #fcpslearn#champforkids
A2: The least beneficial pd I ever attended was so boring and non-beneficial that I do not even remember it---and there have been quite a few of those over the years. You sit & listen to blanket statements that do not directly apply to you and leave w/ nothing to use. #fcpslearn
A3: Working with our @padcaster currently. Always trying to find new and exciting ways to incorporate @Flipgrid into the spaces where I dwell. Typing this gives me a great idea! Standby. #fcpslearn
A3: The top of my list this year is learning my way through a leadership program as well as planning the first annual Clarke Innovation Conference!
#FCPSlearn
My bad! I was thinking of most beneficial. The least is most others where it’s a lecture or power point about something that won’t be appilicable to class. #fcpslearn
A3: I have quite a few books to read that I have picked up through Twitter chats. I am most interested in learning how to layer hooks in my classroom a little bit better. #fcpslearn
A3: effective classroom systems to support academic behaviors/ supports #PBIS and school-wide expectations. Monitoring and supporting these systems. #fcpslearn
It was wonderful to talk about a passion with someone who is also passionate about the subject. So many levels of happiness achieved that day... #fcpslearn
A2: Writing conferences session & I was hoping to hear new strategies for providing feedback & helping Ss become better writers- 👎🏼 it was focused on “decorations & tools” like stationery, markers, colored pencils- beyond disappointed #fcpslearn#LoveLiteracyLearning
Definitely a pretty cool idea if executed well. I started blogs this year. Not in love with how I did it, but thinking of a better solution for it next year! #fcpslearn
A4: I present on all things Google and technology integration. Recently got to present with 3 colleagues at a conference and loved it! Looking forward to branching out with others and coming up with new topics!
#FCPSlearn
A4: I really liked presenting about Student Drive Performance Based Assessments with @PHausTech, excited to take our show on the road at Learnapalooza! #fcpslearn
A4: Speaking on the POWER of the PLN is amazing. So many great people to connect with others. Also, teaching people how to code using @scratch is also fun because it is hands-on and people leave feeling like they have accomplished something. #fcpslearn
A4: Topic: Promoting Educator Practice
Many Ts - present 3fcpslearn company excluded - are not confident, comfortable enough to share out their great works. #fcpslearn can help others grow towards that level of capacity
A4: I have learned a lot this year about making Shakespeare more engaging for students. I have changed a lot of activities I use and the overall acting of the play. I am still tweaking it all, but I am having so much fun that presenting would be a blast. #fcpslearn
A5: Nearly anything could be a great topic. Technology, reflection, best practices, and even some guest moderators. The biggest thing is to keep publicizing and get many people to the chat.

Thanks for another great week on #fcpslearn, Scott. Congrats on your new adventure, as well! If you are up for another exciting chat, can I suggest checking out #122edchat tomorrow at 7 Central with @MrWawczak and @MrsKramerD123? Here are the Qs: https://t.co/m6cDEzx0Gp
A5: Suggestion for a future chat? Hmmm. Maybe choose an article from an education magazine or website and have us discuss the pros and cons of the ideas presented. #fcpslearn
