Hello Everyone, Linda Edwards Toronto 🇨🇦 #fcpslearn
  • MHSLewisHistory May 1 @ 7:05 PM EDT
  • PHausTech May 1 @ 7:05 PM EDT
A1: I can't think one PD that sticks out over another, however, the ones that have been the most effective always stress hands-on learning, usable takeaways, are dynamic, and offer ongoing support. #fcpslearn
  • rodcarnill May 1 @ 7:06 PM EDT
#fcpslearn Best Ever PD as a participant was AIMS workshop #crosscurricular #handson #makeittakeit
  • loliveira55 May 1 @ 7:06 PM EDT
Luis from RI. ELL HS teacher and tech coach. #fcpslearn
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 7:06 PM EDT
A1: Participating in VSUP has been a game changer for me. I think what has made it so great is all the time I spend actually creating things. Rather than sit and get, I’m actively contributing! #fcpslearn
  • _on11 May 1 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1: Any time that you have the ability to take things for a "test drive' rather than just hearing about it is always a win. Needs to be hands-on so you can get a full-picture experience. #fcpslearn
  • raegan_rangel May 1 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1: Instructional coaching training through Learning Forward in our county because it was relevant and we were given time to process and practice information. #fcpslearn
  • AndrewsShellyVA May 1 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1: best PD session I ever attended was our April 11 instructional focus session where we shared our professional learning logic model with our peers and got feedback from them #fcpslearn
  • LindaEdwardsi May 1 @ 7:07 PM EDT
A1 CanConnect2018 and Google Camp ❤️ having lots of choice for my learning 😀 #fcpslearn
  • CristinaDajero May 1 @ 7:09 PM EDT
A1: Literacy PD offered by @VBEstill @andrealpayne payne related to stages of literacy development & how to select appropriate literacy tasks, administer & analyze data, make appropriate instructional decisions based on learner characteristics. #fcpslearn #LoveLiteracyLearning

  • khoggardGRT May 1 @ 7:10 PM EDT
A1 I love attending the @childengineer conference #vcec every year! So many great ideas for incorporating STEAM, robotics, makerspace, etc Have presented past 2 years and gotten so much out of attending and presenting #fcpslearn #champforkids
  • khoggardGRT May 1 @ 7:10 PM EDT
    Kelly from Va Beach #fcpslearn
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 7:11 PM EDT
A2: One where I just sat the whole time listening to things I already knew and the presenter droned on and on. #fcpslearn
  • _on11 May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
A2: Been to many PD sessions over 18 years. Where you are sitting and listening for 45 minutes is rough. #fcpslearn
  • raegan_rangel May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
PD that was sit and get presentation and not relevant. I don’t do well with this format. It needs to be something I can apply immediately. #fcpslearn
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
A1: We had a content specific pd session with @AMPoProse, a local poet who teaches at Davidson College. It was fabulous because he gave us unique insight into how to teach poetry. I enjoyed discussing poetry with him & coming away from the session with ideas to apply. #fcpslearn
  • loliveira55 May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
A1 The best so far was the AATSP conference in Panama. Learning with Spanish teachers in a Spanish-speaking country. #fcpslearn
  • PHausTech May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
A2: The least beneficial PD has traditionally been sit-and-get, lacking takeaways, allow for passive attendance, and lack enthusiasm (even from the leader). #fcpslearn
  • AndrewsShellyVA May 1 @ 7:12 PM EDT
A2: any session where the tech hasn’t been vetted prior and is taught by someone who has not been in a classroom in a long time. I don’t merely mean hasn’t taught—I mean hasn’t been in a classroom to work with kids and observe #fcpslearn
  • loliveira55 May 1 @ 7:13 PM EDT
A2 I attended a session on actively engaging Ss with a presenter who lectured the entire time. Practice what you preach. #fcpslearn
  • khoggardGRT May 1 @ 7:14 PM EDT
A2 PD sessions that assume that everyone in the room is at the same level of understanding or experience with a topic. Include in the explanation what level you will be addressing or have breakout differentiated sessions #fcpslearn #champforkids
  • MHSLewisHistory May 1 @ 7:15 PM EDT
  • rodcarnill May 1 @ 7:15 PM EDT
A2: all of the sit and get PD sessions lead by Charlie Brown's teacher want to be ???3fcpslearn - HA #fcpslearn
  • Shapiro_WTHS May 1 @ 7:15 PM EDT
A2 - At a state conference and saw and listened to George Couros. Was inspiring and motivating. @gcouros #fcpslearn
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:15 PM EDT
A2: The least beneficial pd I ever attended was so boring and non-beneficial that I do not even remember it---and there have been quite a few of those over the years. You sit & listen to blanket statements that do not directly apply to you and leave w/ nothing to use. #fcpslearn
  • LindaEdwardsi May 1 @ 7:15 PM EDT
A2 I’ve been to a few where they just talk at you all day and flash slides with everything they are saying ☹️ #fcpslearn
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 7:16 PM EDT
A3: Strategies to make sure I am effectively taking advantage of us going 1:1 next year! #fcpslearn

A3: Working with our @padcaster currently. Always trying to find new and exciting ways to incorporate @Flipgrid into the spaces where I dwell. Typing this gives me a great idea! Standby. #fcpslearn
  • PHausTech May 1 @ 7:17 PM EDT
A3: The top of my list this year is learning my way through a leadership program as well as planning the first annual Clarke Innovation Conference! #FCPSlearn
  • Shapiro_WTHS May 1 @ 7:17 PM EDT
My bad! I was thinking of most beneficial. The least is most others where it’s a lecture or power point about something that won’t be appilicable to class. #fcpslearn
  • rodcarnill May 1 @ 7:17 PM EDT
A3: top of the list this year is digging deeper into promoting stakeholder voice in advocacy #fcpslearn
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:17 PM EDT
A3: I have quite a few books to read that I have picked up through Twitter chats. I am most interested in learning how to layer hooks in my classroom a little bit better. #fcpslearn
  • Shapiro_WTHS May 1 @ 7:18 PM EDT
A3 - I want to create student blogs that will inspire kids to learn more. #fcpslearn

  • AndrewsShellyVA May 1 @ 7:18 PM EDT
A3: effective classroom systems to support academic behaviors/ supports #PBIS and school-wide expectations. Monitoring and supporting these systems. #fcpslearn
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:19 PM EDT
It was wonderful to talk about a passion with someone who is also passionate about the subject. So many levels of happiness achieved that day... #fcpslearn
    In reply to @MHSLewisHistory, @AMPoProse
  • CristinaDajero May 1 @ 7:19 PM EDT
A2: Writing conferences session & I was hoping to hear new strategies for providing feedback & helping Ss become better writers- 👎🏼 it was focused on “decorations & tools” like stationery, markers, colored pencils- beyond disappointed #fcpslearn #LoveLiteracyLearning
    In reply to @MHSLewisHistory
  • LindaEdwardsi May 1 @ 7:19 PM EDT
A3 Balance show and tell with hands on. I want to play with apps/programs and talk with others #fcpslearn

  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:20 PM EDT
I have never walked out of one physically, but mentally I have checked out of a few. #fcpslearn
    In reply to @MHSLewisHistory
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 7:20 PM EDT
Definitely a pretty cool idea if executed well. I started blogs this year. Not in love with how I did it, but thinking of a better solution for it next year! #fcpslearn

  • _on11 May 1 @ 7:22 PM EDT
A4: Speaking on the POWER of the PLN is amazing. So many great people to connect with others. Also, teaching people how to code using @scratch is also fun because it is hands-on and people leave feeling like they have accomplished something. #fcpslearn
  • khoggardGRT May 1 @ 7:22 PM EDT
    A4 content integration strategies and/or STEM #fcpslearn
  • AndrewsShellyVA May 1 @ 7:24 PM EDT
A4: Building capacity in your teacher leaders. Topic is very close to my heart. #fcpslearn
  • rodcarnill May 1 @ 7:24 PM EDT
A4: Topic: Promoting Educator Practice Many Ts - present 3fcpslearn company excluded - are not confident, comfortable enough to share out their great works. #fcpslearn can help others grow towards that level of capacity
  • MHSLewisHistory May 1 @ 7:25 PM EDT
  • noel_hoffmann May 1 @ 7:25 PM EDT
A4: I have learned a lot this year about making Shakespeare more engaging for students. I have changed a lot of activities I use and the overall acting of the play. I am still tweaking it all, but I am having so much fun that presenting would be a blast. #fcpslearn
  • PHausTech May 1 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A5: Nearly anything could be a great topic. Technology, reflection, best practices, and even some guest moderators. The biggest thing is to keep publicizing and get many people to the chat. #FCPSlearn
  • CristinaDajero May 1 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A3: ways to support social/emotional needs of struggling readers so that they don’t allow frustration to keep them from having a #GrowthMindset #fcpslearn #LoveLiteracyLearning
    In reply to @MHSLewisHistory
  • MrPStrunk May 1 @ 7:26 PM EDT
A5: Maybe since our great moderator is now an ITC, we could chat about different tech tools we enjoy using?! #fcpslearn
