A1 the idea that they can start to ‘specialise’ their subject choices as they progress from ks4 to ks5. Start to get quite excited. I keep going thinking about how hard they are working to achieve their personal best. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A1: The thought and culture that we are going through the process together. It's vital to ensure that children feel settled and not isolated during exam season.
"Many assume once you become a Headteacher that support is no longer required or you require a similar level of support as beforehand. However, nothing could be further from the truth..."

A2 Dust yourself off, exam results are not within your circle of control.Focus on the next cohort and reflect on what has happened so far to make best preps for the next academic year #ukedchat
#ukedchat A1 Reflect on the process, think what worked well and how you might approach it differently next time...Most of all make the time up to the Y7-10s you might have been neglecting, and do something fun, de-stress, trips out, sports days etc...!
I sometimes get a kind of sad feeling when it's all over and the kids go at the end of their exams. It's almost like they have now transitioned. We have battled through a difficult time together... #ukedchat
A2) surely ensuring your current cohort are happy and relaxed and enjoying the end of their primary ed is more important than prepping for the next cohort. Talk about conveyer belt! #ukedchat
A2 getting more than 20 seconds to yourself so you can catch your breath after pulling lots of Ss through kicking and screaming, and thinking about how to do things better next year #ukedchat
I think ks4 will be slightly different as after exams, you won’t really see them again hence why you are able to focus on the next lot a little more. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A2: The priority has to be a return to the absence of anxiety and apprehensions - for both teachers and pupils. Let's explore teaching and learning again!
A3 Looking ahead to next steps. Sure, take a few weeks to relax but then start to prepare for whatever is next. If you are in danger of having to resit, get back on the horse and start again just as a precaution. So many maths resit students return with limited knowledge #ukedchat
A3 lot's start worrying about getting into 6th form, however, I'd like to think that they go out and enjoy the longest holiday they'll ever have #ukedchat
A2 to get away from drilling, do what a true educator should do: have fun lessons where critical thinking, creativity and innovation is encouraged. Give opportunities for chn to shine and surprise with their talents, rather than being trained to give the right answers #UKEdChat
#ukedchat A3 Reflect on the process and try to remember why they enjoyed learning in the first place before they were burnt out by endless exams etc. Take time to relax, then get ready to transition/level up to KS5...
A3: Taking time out to relax and enjoy the summer - recharging themselves ready for the next step whether that be continuing with education or getting a job. #UKEdChat
A2. Personally my attention then turns to transition and getting our Y6 students with SEN into school as much as possible and doing a range of activities to make them feel more comfortable about joining us in September #ukedchat
A4 #ukedchat they go back to normal, exams are a highly stressful period for everyone, chn, parents and teachers. Everyone is much happier once exams are over.
#UKEdChat A3 - first of all, relax. Listen to your body. If you need rest, rest. If you need to exercise/eat (within reason), do it. Reconnect with friends and family whom you may have not spoken to while revising.
#UKEdChat A4: The children seem significantly more relaxed, confident and definitely take increased risks with their thought processes and behaviours. It's great!
A4 lessons become a lot more ‘chilled’ and exciting and investigatory as it was for the first two terms of the year. Really start to use the time to experiment with a few ideas of teaching and technology. #ukedchat
#ukedchat A4 It's more relaxed. I'm #semh teaching, anxiety is contagious, affects the students from Y11 down. Collective sigh of relief. Now to do stuff to remind the kids how awesome Science is...bottle rockets, Van Der Graff's, trips to the Zoo, STEM projects, bring it on!
A3. Get back to hobbies and interests that they may have sidelined during the exam period. After this, got some of our students it’s then about preparing them for their transition to college etc. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A1 - I tell myself: “It’s OK to feel nervous. It’s OK to feel scared. It’s natural to feel these emotions.” I also share this with colleagues and students.
#ukedchat A5 At my school we try to get as many kids off site as possible during exams to keep it quiet, so we do more team building and outward bound trips with Y7-10. Had some much needed pastoral time fishing and kayaking with my Y10's. Your turn next year lads..!
A5 in the lead up to exams, the balance definitely shifts to academic where every available slot of time is taken up to help with academic pursuits. pastoral activities should be utilised/protected to allow breathing space and cover coping skills and resilience #ukedchat
A5. I think we end up doing quite s lot of pastoral work when it gets very close to the exams. By s certain point they’ve done the learning and it’s about revision and more importantly wellbeing to get through the exam period #ukedchat
A5 #UKEdChat I would say it definitely changes. Chn need more pastoral care during this period but unfortunately less time is given because the emphasis is on the academic/exams. It’s worrying that the education system causes that, in the primary sector.
A6. No change. You still have your other year groups and classes that you have been working up until and during the exam period and you still have your routines etc. with them #ukedchat
My #TEDxNorwichEd talk was about the strengths of #SEND kids. Don’t assume what they can’t do, instead support them in exploring what they can. Missing my right arm, my piano teacher is exploring what I can do with me - exciting surprises every week. #UKEdChat#UKPastoralchat
A7 love doing King Arthur’s problem with ks3 and project based work with problems solving activities. With yr 10 we do a lot of flipped lessons using tech and then do marketplace activities ready for yr11 #ukedchat
#UKEdChat Q6 sorry late to the show, as a teacher in FE focusing on Btec assignments & HE in FE. This time of year is about getting the learners past the post and as long as they have their GLH in they are free to leave. But our time is taken up by taster sessions from schools
#ukedchat Q7 We usually have Sports Day and an English theme day where staff come in dressed up. This year it's fictional detectives...I have a costume idea....
#UKEdChat Q7 (see previous) that time is taken up by my own academic improvement that I hadn't been able to squeeze in during the year and to look at new tools and techniques for the coming year
#UKEdChat please don't shoot me down for this but... I'm not sure that anything should change before or after exams. If you get the school's culture right, the exams are evidence that your curriculum is inclusive, your teaching is good and that your assessments are accurate.
