I think of restore as renewing, rebuilding, or hitting the refresh button. It's a way to start over

A3: The greatest barriers to implementing restorative practices are time and tradition.

Also RP may be different from person to person

A3: Implementing restorative practices takes time and work, whereas assigning detentions and suspensions is a relatively quick fix.

A3: Traditional beliefs about punishment and accountability are often a barrier to implementing restorative practices.

A3: A lot of people think sending a kid home (suspension) holds them accountable for misbehavior. Often that's what the kid wants.

A4: We are still at the beginning of our efforts to integrate more restorative practices as part of our behavioral support systems.

A4: While I am kind of a law and order guy, I believe that in order to really change behavior we have to focus on relationships.

A4: We are beginning to use restorative circles and we are exploring ways to integrate restorative practices into our systems.

In house. Make them work. Not a vacation

A5: I think the family piece is critical. We have to connect with families to work through student discipline issues effectively.

A7: I did a lot of things that I never got caught doing. I did have my fair share of detentions/a couple of suspensions on record.

A7: Skipping school, smoking in the boys room, lots of mischief. Nothing cruel, but some were unusual.

I used to have to copy a lot of stuff out of the dictionary as a punishment.

It didn't change my behavior, but I'm a pretty good speller and I really kick ass as crossword puzzles as an adult.
