#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
A1: I've been to conferences like @actfl where attendance badges are offered. Have also seen scavenger hunt games like what @badgrteam offered at InstructurCon last year #badgechat
Several vendors offered Digital Badges at the #BadgeSummit the last 2 years but feedback I heard was that few attendees tried to claim them... #badgechat
A1: Badges for keynotes, vendor meet-ups, scavenger hunts, and session types.
Q1: What kinds of Digital Badges have you seen offered at conferences? #BadgeChat
A1. I have seen badges that were designed to show attendance at certain sessions, social media posts about the conference, and for scavenger hunt type activities. #badgechat
It reminds me of when you get a certificate for going to a conference. It's like a memory of your learning. I like the concept of badges for the same thing! #badgechat
A2: I dream big about Badges earned at conferences being "cashed in" for CEUs with districts and depts of ed, as well as the learning they credential being valued by supervisors... #badgechat
Q2: I think most folks agree that conferences are a solid form of professional learning - would love to capture, in a badge, the evidence of teacher learning and how that learning impacted their teaching and their students learning #badgechat
So not just to recognize learning with a credential but to "organize" it as well? Are you thinking this starts to help Educators with our own PD Pathways? #badgechat

A2: Just heard about a company's ability to "time-box" and "geo-box" Badge earning. Would be cool to use that to replace having presenters/volunteers signing off on attendees seat time sheets at conferences for CEUs... #badgechat
A3: I think that one red flag going all out right away before validating that users will actually go for it...could be a ton of work that isn't worth it. Better to first get a sense of if you build it, will they come? #badgechat
Great thought! If you create potential for a flood, be prepared to deal with the flood...adults want timely and meaningful feedback and if it takes a month to process all the requests, people will have a bad experience #badgechat
A3: Platform fatigue/confusion can be a challenge - each conference usually has its own official app, plus the conference website - one more place to go to earn a badge can be an issue #badgechat
A3: Awarding the wrong badge to a group mudiesy the waters. Also, audience tone should align to the badge. Fun vs. Serious #badgechat
Q3: For conference organizers thinking about offering Badges, what can go wrong? What risk factors are they wise to consider ahead of time?
Right?!?! It'd be a bummer to set something cool up for conference that isn't sustainable. Like when you have a great idea for a student project and then sit on 175 3 page essays for a month...at least I've heard some teachers who clearly aren't me have done that:) #badgechat

A4. Badges will be given and received in AR and VR spaces where the earners of the badges can “cash” them in for career advancement, financial incentives, and/or CEUs. #badgechat
A4: Definitely a move to 100% digital. Name tags, sessions, meet-ups. Create a learning pathway out of session offerings, then complete it. #badgechat
Q4: If you put on your futurist hat, what prediction would you make for conferences and badging in 2040?

Take a note and remember you heard it hear first: Learning Pathways out of session offerings. This will be a big deal and a disruption...and at the same time makes a lot of sense for all the right reasons #badgechat

A4: Conferences and attendees getting the recognition they deserve for a professional learning model that can positively impact practice and learning. #badgechat

Thanks to @RyanPeetz and @kid12 for dropping by, as well as our regulars who keep us oiled, our friends at @alludoplay for answering questions and to Dodie for popping by at the end. And of course to the lurkers, we love and value you and your engagement! #badgechat
My takeaway is that we are at the tip of the iceberg of what's possible with Badge Credentials and conferences and that the future is very bright! #badgechat
Conferences + Badges = Peanut Butter + Chocolate. Will need to test this out at the #badgesummit right before #ISTE18 - Thanks for the chat, @SenorG ! Enjoyed learning with everyone #badgechat
Thanks to all for joining! Have a Badge worthy week and if you haven't already registered for #BadgeSummit on June 23rd, check it out and DM me any questions you have! https://t.co/TPSB4ep8yX#badgechat

A2. Love the idea of badges aligning with CEUs - to start a transition to a better way to PD. I also believe the should be some follow-up to see that the learning was applied #badgechat
Literally 15 minutes before #badgechat was reconnecting w former student who, after hearing about Badges, had the first question of: "So will there be a bunch of Mixed Reality applications of this in the workplace?"
