Q1: This year @k_shelton@kimbearden and @Savvy_Educator discuss the power of building relationships and amplifying ALL of our students' voices.
What resources are available to us to create opportunities to build relationships and amplify student voice? #DitchBook
Oh, she would TOTALLY dig all the cool stuff you guys do. She'd totally fit in.
Now, I need to get my hands on a teleportation device to make transportation possible! :) #DitchBook
James a HS History Teacher that uses comics in the classroom from KY. Excited to learn from some masters over the next few days with #DitchSummit#DitchBook
A1: @Flipgrid does both. It gives students voice, but also allows relationship building. Ss sometimes feel more comfortable sharing when the can edit before posting. #Ditchbook
A1...I think that any platform that allows collaboration will build help relationships w/ Ss. Providing as much choice as possible enhances student voice #DitchBook
A1: The obvious answers involve @Flipgrid@GoogleForEdu tools and @wakelet. But, in order to truly amplify student voice and build relationships, the best tool and resource is a simple 1:1 conversation. Then, they feel more comfortable amplifying even louder! #DitchBook
A1: Think there is this little upstart of a thing called @Flipgrid that does that (hope those guys catch on) :) I use a daily check in through Google Forms to get a feel for how Ss are feeling/whats going on with them to help w/ convos later #ditchbook
A1: As a SPED teacher, it's not a specific tool, even though there are tons of those, like @Flipgrid. For me, it's the one on one time that I get with students to ask them questions about them as individuals, not just content, and learn about their goals and interests #ditchbook

#DitchBook A1a Resources to create opportunities to build relationships & amplify student voice you ask? Interstate highways, the Internet and the person(s) next to you. Go where others are and learn/share. Folk like @RandallSampson using #Wakelet to curate. Ask a Q or share idea
Hi #ditchbook fam!!!! Karly, tech tosa and computer science teacher here from CA. I'm feeling SO excited about #DitchSummit starting tomorrow. It's going to be AHHHMAZING!!!!
A1: We use a lot of creativity resources Google Slides, Pixel Art, etc to amplify all of our voices. Unique creativity expressions builds great relationships with my Students! #DitchSummit#ditchbook
A1: A resource to build relationships and amplify student voice:
Our students' passions and interests.
We can't forget them, and we've got to give students opportunities to talk about them! #DitchBook
A1: Some of my favorite resources for amplifying student voice and building relationships: @Flipgrid Google Forms, Google Slides! But having students work together on coding and projects, allows for communication and choice! #DitchBook
Q1: I think that @PearDeck does a great job of amplifying student voice by creating an outlet for the shy student to share their thoughts during teacher-led instruction. It builds trust with them and reduces anxiety! #ditchbook
In reply to
@jmattmiller, @k_shelton, @kimbearden, @Savvy_Educator, @PearDeck
A1 Invest in your students. Ts must put in the time and effort to get to know them as a human. Share who you are as a person to build those relationships. Then students will be comfortable to share their voice. #ditchbook
A1: Sky's the limit! @PearDeck uses anonymity which empowers S voice, and ANY resource can help build relationships if done correctly. :) Variety, building in fun with the thinking, & providing plenty of opps for Ss to express creativity & individuality. #DitchBook
A1: I use @Flipgrid, @Seesaw, and @ClassDojo are just a few I use...I also love all of the G-Suite apps. I'm also big on @canva - my new favorite program for creating graphics. #ditchbook
Q2: Teaching with technology is SO much more than just using technology with our students.
@jmattmiller and @tonyvincent share TONS of great ideas for using technology to the fullest.
What are your best lesson ideas for teaching with technology? #DitchBook
A1: Anytime the students can speak their mind, their voice is being heard! Whether it’s recording with @Flipgrid or collecting in @Wakelet allow the Ss to share their thoughts! #DitchBook
Q1: This year @k_shelton@kimbearden and @Savvy_Educator discuss the power of building relationships and amplifying ALL of our students' voices.
What resources are available to us to create opportunities to build relationships and amplify student voice? #DitchBook
A1. I feel like using #HyperDocs to create lessons where my students can go at their own pace has provided a place for them to feel comfortable to share what they know in a way that best fits them. #DitchBook
In reply to
@jmattmiller, @k_shelton, @kimbearden, @Savvy_Educator
And give them opportunities to share who they are... we do a soft start in the AM now so they can design with Legos, design/build Slides or Drawings. Start day with comfort and they'll share more of the inner them #ditchbook
A2 Ummmmm well this is quite redundant but #HyperDocs allow me to create units where I can integrate technology meaningfully and not just in some one off lesson. Good thing there are TWO #Hyperdocs presentations available during #DitchSummit!!! ❤️ #DitchBook
I love using @ShakeUpLearning’s choice board template to allow student choice to bring in different interests that can all meet standards with universally designed assessments. #ditchbook
A2: @1sassyteach shares some great ideas on how she uses technology with her class. We really loved her Snapchat activity she did with her kids a couple weeks ago. Bringing social media into the classroom shows kids how useful it can actually be! #DitchBook@jmattmiller

While we're chatting, if everyone could give a huge shout out of love to @Miss_Lievens - A regular #ditchbook chatter from Davenport - She successfully underwent a 4.5 hour heart surgery today and is now recovering. Get well soon, Abbi!! #ditchbook isn't the same without you!!!
A2: the best lessons are those that leverage tech w/ content & good teaching to bring out the best thinking & learning experience for all. Think #TPACK. #Ditchbook
A2: I use tech all the time to make lessons better. A new one I've finally incorporated this year is from @alicekeeler book 50 things... where my students answer thinking questions in math on a Google Slide. They revise until correct. It has been awesome! #Ditchbook
In reply to
@jmattmiller, @tonyvincent, @alicekeeler
A2...I try to use technology to deliver instruction but like to incorporate old school paper and pencil too. When technology can help a struggling student or get kids to create something it’s worth using in class #DitchBook
Starting with the learning intention and then exploring ways that technology can support or deepen this learning - using technology with intent. Finding ways technology can be used to provide adjustments for students with special needs #ditchbook
A1: I think it’s important for students to share their voice and opinion. It could be through PLN, G-Suite, Twitter Chats, etc. The more open and welcoming, the more comfortable the student feels to share. #DitchBook
A2: Anything that helps students be more organized with their thoughts and evidence of learning. As a SPED teacher, especially important for my students! #ditchbook
Q2: Teaching with technology is SO much more than just using technology with our students.
@jmattmiller and @tonyvincent share TONS of great ideas for using technology to the fullest.
What are your best lesson ideas for teaching with technology? #DitchBook
A2: Best lesson ideas for teaching w/tech involve connecting Ss to the world / authentic audiences. Right now my Spanish Ss are connected with @Rdene915 's Ss, and Ss from Argentina & Spain to practice conversation skills & learn about those cultures/countries. #DitchBook
A2: My students have love the different @ericcurts Google Slides with build your own snowman, & pumpkin! They keep asking to create different ones because they love to write stories with their mini creations! The Ss get to share their their ideas & get to be creative! #ditchbook
A2: I love being creative with the @GoogleForEdu tools. @jmattmiller (and many others) always offer up some amazing and creative ideas that have HUGE impacts in the classroom for students! #DitchBook
A2: Take something you know and TRY a techno twist. Instead of a research paper, make /add to a @Wakelet collection. Have students take pics around the school and share what shapes they found in the real world compared to the shapes they see in math (trapezoid, etc). #DitchBook
Q2: Teaching with technology is SO much more than just using technology with our students.
@jmattmiller and @tonyvincent share TONS of great ideas for using technology to the fullest.
What are your best lesson ideas for teaching with technology? #DitchBook
A2: One I just did was to give topics to my students to develop their own lesson, teach the class, and then gave them the assessment data to allow them to create their reteach. HOW & WHAT they used was open-ended. Quizzz, Kahoot, Slides, Canva, Flipgrid to name a few. #DitchBook
A2 um I also love 🥰 the transformative power of #hyperdocs to become a facilitator of the classroom and allow students more choice and opportunity for collaboration and creation. #DitchBook
#DitchBook A2a I hear about Ts using 360 media with Google apps to create immersive you-are-there learning experiences. So I’ve been playing with #dronephotography to capture stuff like https://t.co/O6bjpiB6qC to share a story +
A2: #mysteryskype #100 Word Challenge writing, virtual fieldtrips, guest speakers! Technology can offer us a myriad of ways to bring the world into our classrooms! #DitchSummit#DitchBook

A1 one of my teachers asked her Ss to give her one word about their favorite part of class. Then, she created a Wordle. This allowed her to see what the Ss valued most. Pretty cool way to incorporate/assess student voice #ditchbook

As a not math guy, I discovered this a while back when putting together a @PearDeck appsmash presentation, great appsmash and as a math education novice, looks like an amazing tool! #ditchbook
In reply to
@MandiTolenEDU, @craigklement, @Desmos, @PearDeck
#DitchBook A2b The idea being a drone flights high about the ground. What about the view encourages an #archaeologist to go lower, to get boots on the ground to excavate and, perhaps, discover? Different Ss would see opportunity in different places and, and, and..
Choice is a huge component of amplifying voice! If a person is told exactly how they should communicate, their voice is not valued or respected. #DitchBook
In reply to
@KarlyMoura, @jmattmiller, @k_shelton, @kimbearden
A2: My students have really enjoyed our lessons in coding - we've done them in every class TK-5th and it's amazing what the kids can do. @codeorg had some great activities that the kids loved. I also use @googlearts for some STEAM-geared lessons. #ditchbook
JORNEA!!! I was just singing (not really, because nobody would listen) your praises earlier! I am SO excited for your #DitchSummit presentation!!! It's gonna rock! #DitchBook

Q3: Q3: We want students to be creators and not just consumers.
@ClaudioZavalaJr@EdTechNerd & @manuelherrera33 help us get our students creating in the classroom.
What are some ways we can get our students creating with or without technology in the classroom? #DitchBook
A1) @PearDeck@Flipgrid - Anything that allows the S's to express themselves in a unique way. This is part of building the relationship with the S's. #DitchBook
In reply to
@jmattmiller, @k_shelton, @kimbearden, @Savvy_Educator, @PearDeck, @Flipgrid
A2: It sounds so simple, but I love creating simple video for the classroom. From video directions to "guest" speakers. It's a great way to engage students. #ditchbook
A3b: Also, @mrdearybury has his #destroythebox challenges that inspire students to use everyday items to create and have fun while learning! #DitchBook
A2) Having a project that the S's think technology will be available to them. But when they go to use it it does not work. This shows them how to adapt. #DitchBook
Awww Evan!!! You’re too sweet. Thanks for thinking of me. I hope your year has been going well and I’m super excited about #DitchSummit I can’t wait to have educators continue the conversation @jmattmiller & I had. #DitchBook

A3: Instilling a #GrowthMindset early on. I actually teach it on Day 1. Don't be afraid to fail, but know that your knowledge will grow in my class! #DitchBook
We just posted this, today!!! We had our Ss (all 108) do a sketch note about a scientist if their choice! The Ss & Ps loved seeing them tonight at conferences!! #DitchBook@WalledLkSchools#wleced

A3: I told my Ss pencil can be the best tech. I’m big on artful creations. However, I love audio & support student podcasting. Kids have phones to do that. #ditchbook

@jmattmiller, @ClaudioZavalaJr, @EdTechNerd, @manuelherrera33
A3: Offering choice of materials, including recycled materials to show understanding. Igniting passion by following children’s interests and real world problems (in their lives) #ditchbook

A3 Huge fan of choice boards and of using @scratch for students to show what they know. We have several embedded in the #HyperDocs@LisaGuardino and I created. This one is a great place to start with computer science! #DitchBook
#DitchBook A3a I’d suggest setting the Ss aside for a moment to give something like #DotStorming with your adult peers a shot. What does it take for you to create? I suspect if it interests Ts enough to mold something out of nothing kids would run with it too.
A3...Still all about student choice...taking traditional notes or creating something cool w/sketchnotes, building a class presentation using Google Slides, incorporate student creation through Hyperdocs...choice is 🔑 #DitchBook
A2: I think the best use of tech is to do something that isn’t actuallypossible without tech- connecting with the world. Mystery numbers & hangouts are my latest favorite thing to do!#DitchBook
A3: Ss can create in all sorts of ways. With tech: Ss can create: *patterns & market for textiles or stained glass
*blogs
*videos
*graphic design
Without:
*All of the above except videos. Blogs become diaries or journals.
*#Sketchnotes
To name a few. #DitchBook
I am stoked!!! Should be a great time.
On a side note, can't wait until we're together again at #ISTE19 at #FlipgridLive!!! It's gonne be epic!!!
Now, we just need some info on #StuVoiceCon19 and we'll all be set! :-)

Q4: If we want to see change truly take place we have to make these great ideas take root in our lessons.
How can we begin to change our habits to utilize these amazing resources in our everyday lesson plans? #DitchBook
A3 I’m always impressed, dumbfounded, inspired by the incredible things @mrdearybury does to get students to be creators. Tape art, aluminum foil sculptures. The list goes on.... #ditchbook
A3: What I have learned is to give Ss choices and time! I can give my Ss paper and they can create the coolest things! When they are given the tools and time to use them, it is crazy what their little minds can come up with! #DitchBook
A3: blending nontech with social media provides a larger audience for children to share their creation- I mentor my son online so that he can share his passion for art with the world and in turn receive feedback from experts around the world! #Ditchbook
I read a very touching article in school about the treatment of animals in captivity which inspired me to draw the hippo bc and how it was treated so poorly. I was thinking about it nonstop.Then,I decided I had to draw it coming out of captivity 🦛💭📰@LindaEdwardsi@cyndisueboo
A3: Keep projects open ended & not restraining. In a few weeks my Ss will be running for President. They must come up with a campaign speech, communication plan, policy points, etc.. For the com. plan a wide range of technology gets used by the Ss. #DitchBook
A3: Sketchnotes are an amazing way for students to create. I also like to have no tech creativity lessons like our vocabulary drawings.

A4: Try. Just try. But, don't be afraid to FAIL when you do try. That's how Ts and Ss learn and become more innovative. You never know, one of these new ideas may be the start of something amazing! #DitchBook
A4: My co-teacher is not techie at all, but willing to learn. He allows me to show him stuff and we build it in slowly. We are planning to do #GoogleEDU tool lessons with the students after the new year (and in my co-teacher's words, for him too!) #ditchbook

Love love love this!! #sketchnotes are catching on at my school! We taught it through science first, now SS teachers are using what we taught in SCI about sketchnotes and Ts are having Ss sketch there! #DitchBook
A4 You need to find something that works for you and can work often. My friend @nzefeldt recommended finding 3 tried & true edtech tools. 3 that you can use in many ways to create your lessons & your students can use to create as well. That advice hasn't failed me yet. #DitchBook
How great that @desmos can do the same thing as a lot of the TI calculators, and it's free? I still resent having to pay over $100 for a graphing calculator back in high school! #ditchbook

A4: I say it’s called being willing to try & fail. Start by working w something, utilize people & their knowledge. Consistent use makes it a part of the classroom culture. #ditchbook
A4: Start small but methodical. You don't have to transform everything (and probably shouldn't) all at once. I like how #eduprotocols encouraged to pick one change and get good at that... then from there #ditchbook
A4: We have to make a conscious effort to change and take risks. We expect our kids to be flexible learners- Teachers have to be flexible learners also! #DitchSummit#DitchBook

A4: As a #ResidentEducator in Ohio, I hope to grow in this area through this opportunity of the Ditch the Book PD. I look forward to developing over winter break. #DitchBook
Q2 As the current tech resource teacher in my building, I look for ways to incorporate technology into lessons as I collab with the Ts on my staff. I scour Twitter & other places for ideas that will engage students in multiple ways; not just for the sake of using tech #ditchbook
