Good morning, Amanda. There is a 30 minute chat on the Twitters on Tuesday, February 27th called #edprep that is for pre-service teachers. It starts at 8PM CST. Maybe you can join us. #satchat
A1: One of the things I believe most is it is okay to fail. Some of my greatest successes come from failures. We have to learn from those failures and look at how we can make it better for the future. #satchat#culturize#conversechat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize

A1. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" Love this quote and helps me to continue to remember that I'm in it for the Ss and if I believe, then I should share that #satchat
A1: Despite any frustrations that may come, we do what we do for the kids to help them be successful. Even on a tough day, the kids’ eagerness, smiles, and thirst for learning outweighs everything #satchat
A1 Teaching allows you to make changes that will effect the lives of children beginning tomorrow. Its not your content, its about modeling genuine care & understanding to young people who need it #satchat
A1:Know your why! There will always be setbacks and disappointments, but if your why aligns with your positive mission for kids, you'll be able to lead for the good of everyone. #EDU5720@JMcCarthyEdS#satchat
A1: Focus on the positive! It’s easy to feel negativity with the day to day chaos. But end the day knowing that you’ve made at least one person’s day with a simple acknowledgement or smile. #satchat
"Past performance does not indicate future results." Heard this at the end of an investment commercial. Invest in your students, don't define them by their past performances. They can outperform all of your expectations #CelebrateMonday#makeitreal#bfc530
A1: Ts are with Ss more than their parents are, so they have such power to make a difference!! Also, Ts have the daily gift of being a role model. Whether you know it or not, they’re watching you! 💕 #Satchat
A1: Every day is a new beginning, every conversation an opportunity to change the status quo, be present, be positive, have hope and work together to meet challenges and celebrate success! #satchat

A1 Remember you are in this gig for the kids. If it's your passion, you'll know it. There are highs and lows, but the lows are insignificant compared to the highs. #studentfocused#satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1. I believe in looking for ways to take action to address the challenges and concerns we are facing in public education today. That’s why I wrote my new book. It’s time for educators to step away from the sidelines! #call2action4ed#satchat
A1: As frequently as you need, remember why you became an educator. Don't lose sight of the kids you've impacted and don't forget to celebrate victories. #Satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1: Heard this so many times, but wanted to repeat "Kids remember how you make them feel, not what you say" Be that educator to make kids know they matter and you believe in them. #satchat
A1: Don’t wait for others to change. You change! Take responsibility for your own behavior. Don’t worry about others who are not doing the things that need to be done. Take the initiative to be the change, not the same! #Satchat#Culturize
A1: Teach from the heart- never lose sight of why you became a teacher- not for the money or prestige, rather for the impact. Let that passion guide you always. #satchat
A1: We have to remember our Why...it is not test scores or letter grades, for most of us it was to make a difference in some way for students. To do that, we have to celebrate our successes, even the little ones. #Satchat#Culturize
A1 Instead of trying to avoid feelings of frustration, anxiousness, and embarrassment with positive self-talk, students and teachers can learn to notice and accept these feelings. They mean something that matters is at stake. #satchat
A1. Firstly it's about the kids and we are playing the long game. Little wins count, there will be backward steps but that's just part of the learning. If you care, the rest will happen #satchat
Remember that you are only one person, so do not get discouraged if you do not change the lives of all of your students. If you can reach the lives of 1 students, you have succeeded. #satchat
A1: Be that smiling face they see everyday regardless of how you feel. You never know who needs it, but just know that you made someone's day! #satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1 Not every kid is reached and inspired at the time you want them to be, sometimes you plant seeds that mature years later. Always plant seeds! #satchat
A1: You're not alone in the fight. There are many others, many of whom aren't educators, being the change for kids daily. This video is one example. Share your successes and we'll all believe a little more. #satchathttps://t.co/6r999SV4jY

Stick with it! Teaching is inherently human, with all its flaws and wonders. Name another field where you can have this much impact!?
Don’t feel like you’re having that impact? Teaching allows you to constantly reinvent yourself. Trial, error, repeat... #Satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1 You must harness the passion that made you to decide to be an educator. Every day is a new opportunity to make a difference in the lives that you associate with. #satchat
A1 you never know when you will say or do something that will inspire a student to see themselves as capable. test scores matter far less than creating those moments #satchat
A1 ~ Ss need us to be cheerleaders and a source of inspiration! Remember when they misbehave or are disrespectful, it’s not personal. There’s an underlying issue! Get to know your Ss and it will help you build relationships that will allow to you focus on instruction! #satchat

Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
Todd from Singapore. A1: If you are starting to feel you can't do it anymore, put the curriculum aside and focus completely on building relationships with your students. #satchat
A1: I always remind my staff that they are not only influencing the students in front of them daily but they are influencing the lives of their children and their children’s children. We never know as educators how many lives we really change! #satchat
A1: one practice for me was always asking myself “what went right?” Reflecting on the small positives help keep me going- this is a good reminder that I need to start doing that again!
I would suggest is that you shadow a vet teacher & watch how they interact with kids. 1 of my first shadows was of an awesome math teacher that the kids adored. I naturally wanted to emulate him. This is a hands on job....you have to see it in action
#satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1. In this field, which is constantly changing, we entered to Teach Kids..We all have special talents to offer..Let's work Together and Ensure they learn..#Focus#satchat
A1: Work hard, laugh harder. Don’t forget you’re working with children! Students struggle to learn from a teacher they don’t like, so try to be as honest and fair as possible. The rest will come naturally! #satchat
A1: Teaching is the greatest job in the world. Not only do we get to make a difference every day we step into our classrooms, we get to inspire the next generation to change their world for the better as well. #Satchat#TeachersMatter
#satchat A1: "Love them first." -- Post that on a tiny post-it where you can see it every day. Remember it. Live it. Relationships first. The rest will happen.
A1: Keep going. No matter what, keep going. There will be time when it seems nothing can go right. Going thru difficult times allows u to appreciate the best moments of teaching. Don’t get discouraged, rather cherish the challenges. #Satchat#Culturize
A1: I would encourage Ts to stay the course and never give up in a kid. Give grace and second chances even when it is hard. We might not reach them all but we set them up for success and hope they make that choice. #satchat
A1: Don’t loss sight of your purpose, because you may be a student or parent’s only opportunity to feel noticed, valued, or believed in. You have awesome abilities to change lives for the better. I believe in you, so make sure you do, too! #satchat
A1: Look to your successes. Even if it is just 1 or 2 students in a class of 32, collect those successes and embrace them. Then try to replicate with the rest. #satchat
A1: Behavior is communication. It expresses needs, frustration, mindset and is often a call for help. Take the opportunity to assist those in need. These times provide us with an opportunity to make a difference. Continue to be the light EVERY SINGLE DAY! #satchat
A1. There is 1 student, 2 students, or even 100 students that will set aside the obstacles in their lives just to see you, hear you, be near you. You are the reason why some kids put their feet on the floor every day. That is a blessing unlike any other! #satchat
A1: School is a place for love and learning. We must remember that we love who we teach to help us get through the days of frustration. Refer back to thank-you notes or recall those awesome conversations with students or parents
#satchat#culturize
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1: the changes we want often happen one conversation at a time. Sometimes people are overwhelmed at what the change might entail “Can I do this” - YES! But we have to JUST START and remember how little things affect big things #satchat
A1. Learn something new everyday. Your students & colleagues can be your teachers & guides to funny, interesting or serious discoveries. #satchat#culturize
A1: Everything and everyone is on a continuum of progress. Step back, see the big picture. Tomorrow is another opportunity to move it or them forward. #Satchat
A1: We only get one shot this year. Month. Week. Day. Though it may be our fifteenth experience or even 50th, it's always our students' first. They deserve our best for their memories. #Satchat
A1: I like to share inspirational stories about when Ss have come back to thank their teachers later on in life. Ts light up when that happens to them, so I like to remind them they are making a difference to someone everyday! #satchat

I said I wasn't going to buy any more books until I was done with the ones I have now... I may have to break my rule today! Gotta have this book! #culturize#satchat
A1: Hi everyone- Brenda joining late from Massachusetts! I think you have to remember your purpose, choose to find the good, learn on your colleagues and PLN, and reflect! Every day is a new day in education! #satchat
Hello from Australia, #satchat. What sustains us in teaching is seeing past the increasing accountabilities to our core purpose and our daily connections with students, parents and each other.
A1: Self-reflection every day -- why do we do what we do -- and surround yourself with people that push your thinking & want to be better for kids! #satchat
A1: Don’t wait for others to change. You change! Take responsibility for your own behavior. Don’t worry about others who are not doing the things that need to be done. Take the initiative to be the change, not the same! #Satchat#Culturize
A1 be open about your own doubts and struggles. I tell my students how often their energy effort, and creativity motivate me to work harder and to keep growing #satchat#growthmindset

A1: Giving affirmation and "THANKS" is part of how I try to build a community of educators working together for the common good. Here is a fun day in my job going around giving thanks. https://t.co/wPWy1x0N3n#satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
Most students see learning as natural & fun. Teachers need to see learning this way, too. If they see teaching as "the job" then students will come to their class prepared to be "worked on." How do you view teaching? #ThursdayThoughts#MakeItReal#bfc530#tlap#leadlap#edchat
That’s awesome. It’s so easy to find everything we’d change. We ought to be kinder to ourselves. Wouldn’t do that to a kid!! Why do it to ourselves? #satchat
A1. A simple "job well done", "thank you" or "you are doing great" often acknowledges educators' efforts. But more than words it's also vital to be present and visible. This encourages too. #satchat
A1 If you feel pressure, stress or anxiety imagine how the 7 year old feels, you may be the only adult who sees, really sees them today, hears them, makes them feel valued. We are helping S’s find their path in life, what other profession has so much greatness in it? #Satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A1. As educators we have a tendency to be passive in our advocacy for our profession although not so much when it comes to our students. We must become bold and courageous advocates for both. I fear our process is at risk. #satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A1: Keep going. No matter what, keep going. There will be time when it seems nothing can go right. Going thru difficult times allows u to appreciate the best moments of teaching. Don’t get discouraged, rather cherish the challenges. #Satchat#Culturize
A1: I share stories from year 4 of my teaching career 😨😰😭 😂 I feel like I failed those kids because I didn’t have the experience they needed. But the Ss saw a teacher who cared about them and tried hard. We are our own harshest critics. #satchat
A1: I would remind Ts to never lose their passion for why they chose this profession in the fiat place. Education is the backbone of our Nation and we can help mold our students to be valuable members of society. #satchat
A1: joining late for western Pa. I was a paramedic for 12 yrs. I got to change people's lives once on a while. Now, I get that opportunity every day #Satchat
A1) As my Dad always said, “If you try, you will succeed.” Keep chipping away, motivate & encourage, don’t let others convince you to stop. You can and will reach each child if you stay the course and let them know how much you care. #satchat#Culturize
A1: word of encouragement for colleagues... School is the ONLY stable place for some Ss & they are counting on YOU! Know that you matter and make differences in Ss lives #satchat
A1: Especially from an elementary perspective, I like to remind people we are not just teaching curriculum. We are showing students how to be good friends, how to participate properly in a conversations, and how to believe in themselves. That's powerful! #satchat
A2: Connected-we developed success coach caseloads where each teacher is dedicated to 15-18 students w/foundation of a relationship. Capable -Ss meet with Success coaches, coaches meet with grade level coaches in huddles for support, then the huddles meet as team too! #satchat
A1 Remind yourself when you are feeling overwhelmed & frustrated that you aren’t doing everything.. that you are making a HUGE difference for students. The other things will wait. Helping them believe in themselves is your priority #Satchat
One of the biggest things I do is compliment Ss & colleagues on stuff they’re doing that’s great. Feeling seen, appreciates makes a big difference #Satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A1: Sometimes it takes awhile before we see the seeds we are planting grow. Just because you don't see change occur as quickly as you would like, it doesn't mean it isn't happening. Kids have come to me years later and told me that what I said/did made a difference. #satchat
A1 #SatChat - read this last night. Hit me hard.
Sometimes teaching isn’t light shows and thank you cards. But it’s bigger than any of us. And we have a responsibility to the profession, and to our kids.
That's powerful stuff, Neil. Great share! He's going to be a massive success at whatever he chooses to do. Talk about a shining example of what's right with education today. #satchat
A2) Praise the little things. Build up confidence in staff.
Be empathetic and think about the challenges they might face and be there for them #satchat
A2 resist the carping culture. when a colleague starts carping about a student, I gently steer the conversation to what that student needs/benefits from. They're not fully formed adults; their "bad habits" might be defensive mechanisms/coping strategies #satchat#growthmindset
A1: Keep going. No matter what, keep going. There will be time when it seems nothing can go right. Going thru difficult times allows u to appreciate the best moments of teaching. Don’t get discouraged, rather cherish the challenges. #Satchat#Culturize
many times and educators success cannot be measured by a test score or even seen in the moment it happened ... sometimes you realize it years later when that kid sees you and says thank you. #satchat
A1 anyone can make an impacy. It is up to each of us to be show up, be mentally present, and find the positive in all situations . It takes all of us. Sometimes just showing up to a meeting or going to their classroom is all it takea for staff to feel suppprted. #Satchat
A2 To feel connect I think students need to at least have an explanation why it's important even if they disagree. Always provide that for my students in history which is often sadly mocked as knowledge to win Jeopardy #satchat
A2: Develop trusting relationships with students and staff. We promote the family atmosphere, give positive praise, write thank you cards, and catch them being "good"! Everyone has the option to be included... always!
#satchat#EDU5720@JMcCarthyEdS
We're HIRING: Paraprofessionals, Bus Drivers, Bus Aides and Substitute Teachers. Please see the attached flyer to see determine how to apply and join the #EHTPride Team! #njed#satchat
A2 Students and staff need daily affirmations, time to learn alone and together, a smile, a high five, a hug, a handwritten note, a #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay, and two ears to listen. #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A1 Im working hard at being kinder to myself & listening for the lesson. For me every difficult day is followed by a delightful one & many more to follow When I feel this light and seek to understand I take faith that it reflects beyond me. Smiles & Laughter essential #Satchat
A2: at school we have developed a plan that all students & staff have a voice and want them to feel important in the decisionmaking process- we can always look to improve. It truly takes a village #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2. Positivity is key! Find what Ts and Ss are doing right and build upon that. You can't make them feel connected, capable and confident if all you do is ask them to completely change themselves. Growth mindset! #satchat
A2 I count up the school days on a whiteboard on our lounge refrigerator. Below the number, I write a tweet that I liked, in order to motivate my colleagues, or to get them thinking outside of their comfort box. #satchat
A2. Provide folks with an opportunityto define success for themselves and the support and resources to accomplish the goals they’ve set. It’s a model of empowerment instead of a focus on deficits #satchat
A2: We can begin by recognizing & focusing on what students & teachers ARE doing well, not on what they ARE NOT doing well. Notice...Validate...Celebrate... #Satchat#Culturize
Kindness doesnt need to be a big act. There was a time I was the "quiet kid" in school, & I can tell you how much a teacher just saying something simple such as "Hello" to those students & recognizing their existence at school that day can be make a huge impact #satchat
A2: Open door policy during lunch for kids and teachers to come chat. After school #PLN for Ts to talk shop and gain encouragement. Multicultural book club for students to read about people like them and talk about their place in the world. ABL - always be listening. #satchat
A2: Collaboration & communication helps staff and Ss feel connected, capable and confident. Also building relationships with both enhances their effectiveness #culturize#satchat
A2: involve teachers in big decisions and the vision of the school. Never undermine what they are doing when it is for the good of the kids. And I try to thank teachers often and reassure them during low moments that they are doing “good” for the kids #satchat
The FBI needs to be gutted, sheriff Clark placed in command staffed with former law enforcement and military personnel from all over the country. Internal affairs to keep things transparent and weed out any hint of political activism corruption etc No more mafia political hitmen
A1: We can eliminate many frustrations when those around us understand why we do the work we do -- and how it helps our students. Look for others who see the value in what you do. They're out there. #satchat#Culturize
A2: Keep grade level team informed of info via team meetings, demo helpful tools and structures, stop in an chat with team members to see if they need anything. Be social with them. #satchat
A2. Creating a culture where making mistakes is Ok because there is learning in failure. Also, working to get 100% of people in the school connected to something and someone they care about. Generating purpose will cause connection, confidence, & cohesion. #satchat
A2: Never diminish how someone is feeling, create trust, maximize transparency and play to the strengths of those around you (aka empowering others). #satchat
A2 Give educators everything they need for the job, especially the right emotional support and feedback-be clear on the “why” so everyone understand culture and supports it-work it every day #satchat
A2: I felt the most human and connected to others when we spoke about our lives- family, weekends, interests. You really get people and connect on another level #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2: For students, they send an email home each week summarizing their work in class. Many love when parents respond to them and me, and parents have felt more connected. For staff, I work to greet everyone all the time.
#satchat#culturize
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
It’s such a tricky task, navigating safety and innovation and equity and rigor in schools. Love the argument here for getting clear on and adhering to a core code of ethics: https://t.co/TvLncuen8q#satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2) I’d hope this includes an inclusive culture that recognizes all students’ strengths, which means recognizing all families have strengths. Celebrate families and recruit families to celebrate staff. #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2: It starts by understanding that the learning belongs to those doing the learning. Instead of a system of coercion, we need a system of inspiration that begins with Ts asking Ss, "What do you need to be successful, and how can I give it to you?" #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2: Connected, capable and confident- take time to LISTEN, OBSERVE, CELEBRATE...solicit feedback and work hard to be sure all voices are heard! #satchat
A2: We empower our Ts & Ss to take risks knowing that they will be applauded for their efforts and reflections rather than judged for potential failures. We support, motivate, challenge, and encourage risk taking. #satchat
A2: When another teacher has a fantastic lesson, tell them what you think. Observe a class and then tell the teacher that they knocked it out of the park. It means ALOT. #satchat
A2: Frequent, specific, authentic praise coupled with an ask: "I noticed that your students always smile, wave, and then keep working when I walk in; can you tell me how you got them to that point?" #satchat
A2 1st thought in structuring my classroom, if I was a kid, would I dread being in my classroom for 50 minutes. I believe that thought should cross every teachers' mind. If students dont want to be there, your task becomes monumental #satchat
A2. I recommend students or staff to others seeking help or example. By holding up someone’s work / talent to others, we honor them. #satchat#culturize
A2: Encourage staff to use each other as a resource. When I see something awesome in a classroom, I make sure to spread the word and encourage connections among staff. Acknowledging that someone is doing a great job goes a long way in building confidence! #satchat
Morning meetings and closing circles are CRUCIAL to our connectedness as a class. Everyone is seen and heard, we play and laugh with each other, and we respect one another. #Satchat

A2 For being connected, I dont want "Do Now"'s completed when Im monitoring the hallway, I want kids to sit & talk with each other. I want to spend some time getting to know them as well. Relationship building is valuable. Education is greater than the content delivered. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3: There is no excuse for not contacting a parent whose student is failing a class. The conversation is sure to take on a more emotional & negative tone if the communication comes after the grade has been given. #Satchat#Culturize
I teach middle school and this gets overlooked way too much. Our students also need to be greeted and feel welcomed on a personal level. Something I struggle with, but strive to improve upon. #satchat

A3: Talking negatively about students to colleagues. Saying kids can't learn or they can't read or there's too much to do to differentiate. Having a bad attitude about SpEd students and ELs and others that learn differently.
#satchat#EDU5720#culturize
A2 our class rules this yr are just 3, Believe, Try & Enjoy. The culture of the classroom is paramount. S’s know this is another room ofbtheir home. We call the main area the Living Room. They are a team, they support one another, and we use empathy all the time #satchat
A3: Sharing is a must in eduction. No T is an island- there is no power in keeping things for yourself. Lessons, ideas, edtech, strategies are all best used by sharing with colleagues. #satchat
A3: And negative energy NEVER helps build a collaborative community - Strategies for Avoiding the Cobra Kai School Community https://t.co/ipLzNMoRgc#satchat
A3) Teachers saying they hat work. Poor role modelling! Unpreparedness! I also too often see poor modelling of adult behaviour (glorifying crass and loutish behaviour) #satchat
A3: We must change how some teachers respond to behavior when a student goes to another class for support. You won't build positive relationships if you kick them out every time they misbehave. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3 Teachers are under pressure to know the answers, keep control, make students happy, and handle situations the “right” way. We can show our students what it looks like to be vulnerable, try, fail, notice and name our feelings, apologize if we hurt someone, and move on. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize

A3: The biggest issue I've seen is just not caring enough to be prepared (lessons, meetings, knowledge)I and not wanting to grow professionally. #satchat
A3: negative talk about situations in the school in front of Ts that aren't involved or Ss. Word spreads quickly and negativity erodes the positive culture & climate. #satchat
A3: We need to remember that no matter what age we teach, our students are still kids. Let’s ease up on the pressure and negativity and give them time for play. Mutual respect and being conscious of each student’s needs can be game changing. #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
#satchat A3 Negativism has no place in front of students. Nurture discussions to determine the root of the negativity and seek collaborative solutions.
A2 staff need appreciation just like kids, especially this time of the yr. Not building wide, but specific to them... it goes a long way and often gives a boost many staff need to keep dreaming big #Satchat
A2: Talking to other Ts is very important. Let the grade levels behind know what they are doing well. Then ask the grades above what needs to be improved. Ss also like to be involved is the path they are on.#Satchat
A2: This was my interview committee for a long term sub. Empower your kids and they will do great things. #Satchat#culturize After doing this, every hire will involve student input.
I have a thing to say about growing up after tragedy. When I was a senior in high school, 7 of my classmates were killed & 24 injured. It was an awful day full of fear, confusion, & pain. Press swarmed. News helicopters hovered overhead all day filming footage of the carnage. 1/
A3: Saying "I don't like (insert policy/change/tech here)" but not considering a plan. My response: "Ok, you don't like...what is your plan to change it so students benefit?" It's the old Improv Comedy technique of "Yes...And..." #satchat
A2
It is really important that leaders at all levels of education show #gratitude and value the Ts and Ss. Celebrate their milestones & achievement, recognise abilities they have and let them show #leadership on an issue / project. Notes of thanks also help. #satchat#satchat
Thanks for reminding me to set up more opportunities for my 5th graders. It’s easy to get caught up and lose an entire month without providing the opportunity to mentor. #satchat
A3 assuming that an unprepared student is being willfully disruptive. Some students have too much else going on (gettting younger siblings to school, e.g.) to take care of themselves #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3: Teachers must always be willing to adapt and change for the students in front of them. Can’t teach the kids they used to have. Every year brings change and new challenges. @j_cameronjr#satchat
A3: Sharing is a must in eduction. No T is an island- there is no power in keeping things for yourself. Lessons, ideas, edtech, strategies are all best used by sharing with colleagues. #satchat

Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A2: We all need to feel truly heard and that we can trust those we work for/with. It's absolutely essential. I am most connected to those who I know to be genuine and honest. #satchat#Culturize
Negativity! I don’t know how to eliminate this, but kids can see this from a mile a way and it is the most infectious, insidious part of a school’s climate. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3: Us vs Them mentality has to stop. When there is a partnership with students and parents, it creates a culture where we journey with them in their learning. #satchat
A3: Adult behaviors- making decisions based on their own personal wants/needs instead of what is best for kids... we need to look at how we can best serve students ALWAYS #satchat
A3: The feeling of guilt you have when leave some form of PD and think "that doesn't fit me as well as I thought it would." Non-examples are one of the most powerful forms of learning. Don't force something into your classroom just because you went to the PD #satchat
A3: when grown ups in a building are dismissive of kids or spend more time arguing with a student to “prove them wrong” instead of finding ways to connect and support #satchat
A3: Stop talking about "my kids" and "those kids" and start talking about "our kids." End the independent contractor mindset and take responsibility for every student in every class. #satchat
Sometimes we blame children for things that aren't in their control. I sometimes remind teachers to find the things a child CAN DO, before they focus on the things they can't. #satchat#culturize
A3: Avoid arguing w/students in order 2 prove we are right. We have to quit making it about us as the adults. Let’s keep the focus on understanding the root cause of students’ poor behavior & model understanding & empathy. #Satchat#Culturize
We have schools in our district that take the first minutes of their PLC time to write a note to either a staff member or a student - they r then mail to them!
A3 Talking about a student or staff member that is not 100% in private. The things that you hear when walking through halls is repulsive. Since I don't address it, I am part of this remaining as part of our school's culture. #satchat
I really don’t like hearing that teachers should be humble. No - share the awesomeness that happens in your classroom. Change the conversation about education in the USA. #Satchat
A3. Many educators have adopted a definition of success in this work that is not their own. I implore educators to examine their beliefs and philosophies for authenticity. It’s not all about test scores. There is so much more to our work. #satchat
A3: If we want to change outcomes for kids, we’ve got to stop blaming kid, parents and each other. Assume the best and move forward. #EveryChildEveryDay#SatChat
A3: I'm going to start by saying, Guilty! But sitting in predicable groups in staff meetings. We expect our kids to open up and reach out of their comfort zone every so often, we should try! #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
Actually #satchat that was teachers saying they hate work.
Those that hat work are generally OK and very hand friends to have when it's sunny on yard duty
A3) Teachers saying they hat work. Poor role modelling! Unpreparedness! I also too often see poor modelling of adult behaviour (glorifying crass and loutish behaviour) #satchat
A3 Many of the Adult behaviors that are not positive for the kids cannot be controlled by them ... the perpetual state of progress monitoring/testing wears on the kids ... mandates that must be followed stifle teacher creativity. #satchat
A3: In front of Ss: "Ugh, its Monday...Is it Friday yet?" Or counting days to summer = The perceived message is Ts don't want to be there with the Ss #satchat
A3: Stop talking about "my kids" and "those kids" and start talking about "our kids." End the independent contractor mindset and take responsibility for every student in every class. #satchat
A3: 1. Sarcasm (totally guilty on this one). 2. Teachers forgetting that Ss are kids even at 16, 17, or 18, and speaking/acting without compassion or understanding. 3. Letting the gripes/failures of the system seep into their classrooms and pedagogy. #satchat
@casas_jimmy A2: Celebrate... Praise..Celebrate.. Praise again. Acknowledge a staff member in private when you witness a positive interaction with a student. For kids: Making positive phone calls home to family! #Culturize#satchat
A3: I think we have to remember that any time a child is being discussed with another colleague, we’re talking about someone’s child—the center of another person’s love. If you can be anything, ##benicetokids ! #satchat
A3: Fear of failure. Often we the “adults” won’t try something because we might fail. What credibility do we than have when we tell Ss to try new or difficult things? #satchat
These traits can’t exist in effective classrooms. Poor students behavior is usually the sign of an underlying issue. Get to know the students to see what causes poor behaviors. #satchat
Our admin supports teacher initiatives. I'm excited about the program @MTESComputers is building! Our STEAM lab is another example - providing grade 3-5 students 2 lab days per week for sci investigations & engineering challenges. Grade 2, once/week. #Proud2BMillstone#satchat
A2 Innovative school environments allow teachers to bring their personal strengths to the school, create new programs based on professional background, teach what they're truly passionate about. #satchat
Agree, Jimmy. Consistent, open communication with Ps is essential as both Ts and Ps have a desire to help the Ss grow. All of our Ts have a responsibility to keep Ps informed of the Ss status, especially if the S is struggling #satchat
A3: Giving students only one chance to show what they've learned. Just because you test friday doesn't mean learning stopped friday. #hackingassessment#satchat
A3: When adults are not reflective that hurts kids.... sometimes we have to look in the mirror and admit that the problem is not a kid problem but an adult problem... use the question - What do I need to do differently? #Satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
Interesting, poignant, pertinent question from a student about #Parkland shooting- "Did that school have #RestorativeJustice?" I said I didn't know. God, our kids are so kind. Better than us. #satchat#edchat
A3: Treating Ss like their opinions don't matter in the school. If something is happening in the school, it directly affecting the Ss; get their thoughts on how to solve a problem or how to improve the school culture. If they are involved, they will want to be there more.#satchat
A3a: The negative spin Ts sometimes put on implementing new initiatives, rather than seeing them as opportunities to improve teaching and learning! #satchat#satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3 Negativity. About the admin, about the community, about the curriculum, about the kids, about the parents. It is defeating and then becomes self-fulfilling. We all know there are challenges but this doesn't solve them. #satchat#culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3 I'm late, Im from Perth Western Australia a student teacher. Teachers talking negatively about Ss in the staff room, is where I think mindset needs to change. Building collaborative school environments. #satchat
A3) Telling kids that you never liked math and/or were never good at math can be very damaging and only supports the “I’m not good at math” myth. #satchat#culturize
A3: lack of communication between chains of command. Days are difficult, schedules are hard to create, kids can be tough to manage, the more we're ALL able to openly get info day-to-day makes a HUGE difference in #schoolclimate & improve Ts trust in other Ts & in admin #satchat
Oh that’s my dream! For one period a day, kids get to choose to attend a rotating offering of conferences - knitting in my room, competitive piñata construction in another, Fashion history in another... #satchat
A2: Connected, capable and confident...spending quality time together, listening to each other, sharing compassion, sharing your belief in each other’s gifts, offering simple kindnesses. #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A2: We celebrate success! I recently had a premiere party for families showcasing the students work responding to literature! He is part of the video... #satchat
This is my pet peeve!
We do NOT know what the kids are facing most of the time. But we can find out if we listen to them instead of assuming....
#satchat
A3 IMHO Detrimental teacher thoughts: Believing having fun in the classroom isnt academic. Preparing students for the next level but forgetting that they are at their current level. Spending time getting to know the "cool kids" #satchat
A3: adults need to remember that a school is for kids. We don’t need to keep doing things bc that’s what we’ve always done. If there’s a better way that benefits kids, do it. Don’t worry about your comfort. Get comfortable doing things differently. #satchat
It’s interesting, when “how to make friends” is separated out as a lesson I’ve heard it maligned, yet adults are really helping kids with this stuff every day. There’s nothing silly about it. #satchat
A3: The mindset of not starting fresh every day. Rehashing negative behavior from previous days. Taking Ss negative behavior as a personal slight. #Satchat
This would be so cool! I do an after-school club for tabletop gaming, but I'd love to see it as a class tied to the history, math,?and design of games tied together. #satchat
A3: also- the way some educators view consequences- we need to teach students with challenging behavior about their behavior and build their skills, just like we teach them to read! #satchat
A3: Be intentional with language. The words you say and the manner in which you say them show your S's and fellow T's what is school and socially acceptable. We teach more than our subjects! #satchat
We've heard directly from students that many of them don't feel supported in using their voices. As adults and mentors, we must lead an effort to change that. https://t.co/zpHyFXnGmY#youthvoice#SEL#satchat#edchat
A3 I LOVE it when I see Ts modeling a "can-do" and "problem solver" type of attitude. I notice & their Ss notice. Kids need to see more models of positive outlooks like this! #satchat
We have schools in our district that take the first minutes of their PLC time to write a note to either a staff member or a student - they r then mail to them!
A3 pt 2: Assuming that students with low grades haven't learned anything. I made a lot of low grades as a kid on report cards. Good test grades + low "daily" grades divided by 2 = disengaged student (this was me) as often or more often than uneducated student. #satchat
A3 I am my own hardest boss and can be unforgiving at times. We care so much about our kids and “job” that it’s hard to accept when things don’t always go perfectly. I am still working on it. I do keep a good news binder that go through when I sink a bit. That helps. #satchat
A3: Negative put downs shared aloud in front of Ss. As a PE Teacher we see teachers when they bring us their classes to us. Comments like “good luck” or “______ has lost their mind today” in front of Ss are said. When this happens we have already set them up to fail.#satchat
A3 Intentional communication paths, systems are integral to good culture--people need to discuss optimal communication patterns that fit the complex, busy nature of schools. #satchat
A2: From my personal experience as a Ss, being negative about any aspect of the classroom is one of the biggest obstacles of learning Ts can create. Also, not learning my name is a big one! #satchat#conversechat#Necessary
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3. Double standards are frustrating. How can folks rationalize some things they believe they can do but students can’t is head scratching. Pushing the belief that hard lines and single chances to show learning are preparing kids for the “real world”. Simply not true. #satchat
A3: Taking it personally. We must avoid taking misbehavior so personally. S's carry many burdens with them that have nothing to do with our schools and classrooms. Also, we must remember to separate the student from the behavior! #satchat
Oh my goodness. Yes!! Most likely, those are the kids that need recess most. We have recess bc movement benefits kids. Taking it away ruins the rest of their learning that day. #satchat
A3. I want educators to not submit to or perpetuate the negative public education narrative. Honoring and elevating our profession starts with us. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
Q3 Making assumptions about people......this erodes culture. Assume that every person has favorable attributes, T's and S's Look for them, build on them #satchat
This gets on my nerves big time! I would always try to pull teachers to the side when I had questions instead of talking in front of students. #Satchat
A3: Assigning too much homework without clear purpose, being the ‘sage on the stage’, providing for very limited student voice and choice. #satchat#edchatmena
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
My class also doubles as a tech/coding ... some kids are exploring coding ... currently trying to figure out the Unreal Gaming Engine #satchat I now nothing about that, but I found them some videos to help them.
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
NYPD confirmed with multiple sources just before the election
that Huma Abedin had blackmail files on Bill and Hillary Clinton
stored on Weiner's laptop that contain evidence of Child Exploitation and Sex Crimes with Minors

A3: From my personal experience as a Ss, being negative about any aspect of the classroom is one of the biggest obstacles of learning Ts can create. Also, not learning my name is a big one! #satchat#conversechat#Necessary
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A2
Some schools have a staff nomination process for a lucky draw. All nominations go into a box and 1 drawn out for a lucky dip prize at Monday briefing. Staff nominated have the nomination cards put into their staff mailbox, so they know who & what was appreciated #satchat
My School Culture page https://t.co/nukenyKH4r Very important to have all parties (students, staff, administration, community) involved in creating & continuing the culture of an educational institution. #satchat#Culturize#edchat#leadupchat
Our district's buildings do a great job trying to cultivate relationships. Amazing races for staff, T vs. S games, Teacher Knockout Challenge, Character Awards in every building. #satchat
A3: adults need to remember that a school is for kids. We don’t need to keep doing things bc that’s what we’ve always done. If there’s a better way that benefits kids, do it. Don’t worry about your comfort. Get comfortable doing things differently. #satchat
A3 It's easy to be harsh when you're under pressure and oppressed--we have to eliminate as much unnecessary pressure and oppression as possible so we can be kind, caring to Ss. #satchat
A3 Yelling a Ss doesn't get you anywhere all it does is give the Ss what they want a rise out of the T's. Removing recess is counter productive. #satchat
A3: We do not promote the good work we do enough! We need to change the narrative. The best way to spread the amazing things we are doing is to say it loud and often through word of mouth or social media! #satchat
For every day that you feel overwhelmed and like you aren’t making a difference, there will be a day that a student will thank you or tel you you made a difference... that makes it worthwhile! #satchat#culturize
A3: Negativity is a culture killer. We only have a certain amount of time to make a positive difference in a student. While there may be outside factors we can't control, we can control our attitude and our desire to want students to succeed. #satchat
Awesome teachers spend more time creating engaging lessons that interest students and less time trying to make students engage in lessons that aren’t interesting. #education#edchat#edtech#SaturdayMotivation#satchat
A3: believing that all kids are 100% ready to be in their class the moment they walk in the door. No way!!! Their lives, other classes, homes, and more affect them every moment. Don't forget that when you think that Parabolas are going to matter today. #satchat#makeitreal
Q3 #satchat referral and detention should include a restorative element & a way for Ts to say, “I overreacted, too,” or get feedback from overdisciplined groups #Satchat
A3: The single most frustrating adult behavior in schools is the lack of modeling what it is to be a learner. All educators must be the lead learners in their classrooms, schools, and districts #satchat#culturize
A1: You have to focus on the positives! It’s easy to become burdened by all of the negatives, and there will be lots of days with a lot of them!) but the positives are why you’re there. #satchat
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
A4: Model teachers are curious to learn, embrace productive struggle, empower S's and other T's and willing to bring S's to their level. #satchat#culturize
A4: First and foremost, every teacher should aspire to want to be a model teacher because our kids deserve our very best, just like what we expect from them. #Satchat#Culturize
We need to update school schedules, roles, and structure to make kind, caring teaching/learning environments--not old school factories of "learning" #satchat
A2: Being critical of things related to education. Of course we (VA Teachers) may dislike SOL tests but dont use the classroom as our soapbox to criticize the system in front of our students. #satchat
I can only celebrate the positive today - we just lost good prople who were joyful educators, who supported & believed in their Ss and who protected them in the face of danger. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A4: teachers are role models every minute of every day. Be a positive role model by doing everything you want your Ss to do! Pick up trash, hold the door open, apologize to Ss if you make a mistake, smile and be kind to everyone, don’t gossip. Just be nice. #satchat
When I arrive in the morning and I'm chirpy and people say things like, "Why are you happy?" #satchat
You know when they need to move some teachers on... those ones first
#satchat A3: We need to begin with relationships. Need to know learners' names. Sure. But also know something about each young person. Learning will happen.
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
A3 - The wholesale change of strategies in the classroom because something new looks cool or is fun...but doesn't increase learning or have any evidence of effectiveness. #satchat#Culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A3: The "soft skills" we keep saying kids need to learn -- as adults, we have to keep working on them, too: communication, collaboration, planning, follow through, growth mindset, time management, systemness... #satchat
A3 Its always important to keep things positive! This year we #CelebrateMonday on #HMSMonday by giving away #WarriorPride t-shirts & tweeting out awesome classroom activities. Coffee & breakfast for Ts! This has made starting every week a more positive experience for all #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
OMG! Who ever thought that was a good idea!?! I can't even!
Thankfully I'm in HS and my own kids have never had that happen to them. I might loose it & be one of "those" parents if it did happen...
#satchat
A3: I think a lot of the things Ts think are “unseen” model negative peer to peer interaction. Making sure we are truly listening to each other and not just waiting our turn to speak. Modeling respectful talk and friendly greetings in hallway is what we should show kids. #satchat
A3 ~ Assuming that all Ss are being raised like we were raised/raising our own children. Assuming that all Ss have had enough to eat, a warm bed, & electricity...more imptly, if you know they don’t, expecting them to act the same way that Ss who have what they need do! #satchat
We must also think more deeply about our actions with Ss. While a method/strategy may create a short-term gain, will it have long-term positive or negative consequences? We rarely consider that. Too focused on the now. #satchat
A4: reflection, seeking out feedback, collaboration (especially cross curricular), presuming positive intent, knowing when and what data to use, communication, engaging others in building relationships #satchat
Exactly right. Here’s the script: “Hi (parent). I’m (student’s) teacher. I really like them! But I’m concerned because their performance in class is starting to dip, so I wanted to call you today to see what we can do to help them out.”
Instant alliance. Teacher hero. #satchat
A3: There is no excuse for not contacting a parent whose student is failing a class. The conversation is sure to take on a more emotional & negative tone if the communication comes after the grade has been given. #Satchat#Culturize
Exactly - share your ideas - it’s all about the kids right? Not who’s the best “teacher” or looking like the “best teacher. Teachers should be in it for “every student out there”. Whether that be in your class, school, district or beyond. #edchat#satchat
A2) It's important to learn as much about our colleagues as it is our students. What motivates them, what are their interests? This way you can connect them with things/resources you see that may be helpful to them. Teaching is a team sport! #satchat
A4 I talk about trying to learn something new, being overwhelmed/confused/frustrated, and what I do to try to work through it #satchat#growthmindset#lifelonglearning
A4 An "I do, we do, you do" attitude. Showing you care about students as people first. Taking chances and failing. Demonstrating that you are a learner, too. #satchat
Q2: It is imperative that both S's & Staff feel connected, capable, & confident in the work they do. What do you do to cultiivate a culture that values these 3 things? #satchat#Culturize
I have been doing this "TV" class for 6 years and I have noticed many days these are the classes I feel i have made the biggest difference with the kids ... I connect with all my kids but these ones I connect in a different way. #satchat
A4: Model teachers never settle for the status quo. They never stop looking for ways to reach their students. They forge positive relationships, create authentic learning experiences and more importantly care about each and every one of their students and colleagues. #satchat
A4: A model teacher is someone who is humble and kind who listens even when students aren’t talking and still holds all students to high expectations. #Satchat
A3: "the cart before the horse". Looking at innovation as a problem or failure before even attempting to try to push it forward. Pointing fingers at missing pieces instead of focusing on using the pieces that you have. #satchat
A2: Praise students for effort, not ability. Point out their improvement, even when small. Smile and say "hi!" when you see them in the hall. Find out what their hobbies are. Praise your colleagues when you see/hear their good work. #satchat#culturize
Growth mindset! My colleague @pbrink12 is constantly reading and growing in her planning and presentation to ss! I wish all Ts would give up the old standbys and look at what’s new in their subject matter to engage ss!! #satchat#Culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A4: There is a lot of research on what makes an exemplary teacher, broken down by subject matter and grade level, but it always comes down to: Know your Content, Know your Students, and Stay Connected! #satchat
This was my oldest son's situation & we just talked about it! He took a non-traditional path, joined the Navy (nuclear program), earned Elec Eng degree at Penn State, worked in Madrid & Abu Dhabi. He trains Sr. Nuclear Reactor Operators in FL. I couldn't be more proud. #satchat
A4: Model teachers have a burning desire to improve as they accept that it is their responsibility to offer to best educational experience for their students.
#satchat
A model T demonstrates curiosity, creativity, and compassion- is genuine, non-judgement, supportive, and empowering- leads by example encouraging students to do the same. #satchat
Everyone has an occasional bad day and says/does something they regret. Reflect and apologize (teacher to student / admin to teacher / etc). That vulnerability and human interaction will help build a mutual respect and pave the way to a strong relationship. #SatChat
A4: Specific & consistent feedback to help Ss grow, encouragement, understanding, humor, the ability to give Ss your time and actually LISTEN when they need to talk/be heard. #satchat
I try to remind teachers that school may be the only postive and safe place students have and that they show up everyday because of you, your smile, your words of encouragement #satchat
A3: discussing your plight with a coworker or administration in front of a student. This is not only unprofessional but deflates character and gives Ss the idea that they can name call and bash adults too. Not cool. #satchat#Culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A4 Good listeners, team players, open minded, positive, problem solvers, caring, kind, sympathetic, passionate, patient, global learner, life-long learner, and thankful- to name a few 😀 #satchat
A4: Model Ts show many of the characteristics we hope to instill in Ss and our classrooms. Focus on S learning & doing what it takes in support of it #satchat#Culturize
A4 Care, encouragement, makes students struggle (work hard), pushes students to achieve their best, interest in their students, organization, content knowledge, humility. #satchat
A4: greeting each student, know names of as many Ss as possible, create an environment of risk taking, support mistakes and help Ss grow through them, show that you care completely about Ss as a person. #satchat
A3. I want educators to not submit to or perpetuate the negative public education narrative. Honoring and elevating our profession starts with us. #satchat
A4 An "I do, we do, you do" attitude. Showing you care about students as people first. Taking chances and failing. Demonstrating that you are a learner, too. #satchat
A4 we share our failures. We say when we don’t know. We do the work alongside the students and model the work. We share what we are reading. We laugh. We are human. We conference one on one. We discuss self respect and for others. . #satchat
A3: We are working on removing the idea of giving zeros and examining our traditional homework practices. I dislike like the fact that many classrooms looks the same as they did when I was taught in them 20 years ago. #satchat
A4: Model teachers put students and learning first. They cultivate positive relationships with their students and empower their students to be lifelong learners. #Satchat
A4: Model teachers...
- listen before speaking
- love while teaching
- withhold judgment (teachers are good at holding it in, eh?)
- see every student in a new way for a new day
- plan for failure and adjust
#satchat
A4 ~ Model Ts build strong relationships with Ss and hold them to high expectations! They also provide appropriate for Ss to meet these expectations! #satchat
OFTEN , if we listen, the Ss point of view has truth to it. We are so busy proving our point instead of listening. The goal should never be about who "wins". #satchat
A2-Get to know ss interests and likes. Use that info to make learningboth fun and challenging. Ts need to know that they are doing a great job when they are. Make sure that all ss and Ts feel valued and appreciated. #Satchat
Peg is NOT HAVING IT with family engagement efforts disappearing just because students get older. 👍🏽🤜🏽 You go! Family engagement has its own unique purpose; it is not synonymous with less student responsibility. #ParentCamp#satchat
A3: 1. “My students can’t do this!” Is one of those sentences that diminish Ss’ potential. 2. Planning in isolation - not modeling how to collaborate 3. Not celebrating small successes! 4. Being judgmental- let’s presume positive intent #Satchat#Culturize
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
Yes! When it is all negative it's not good! I see some schools doing a "good news call of the day" trying to cone up with a challenge to get mine to do more - and to call more than rely on email #satchat
Much, much love to you. Such courageous educators who put their children's lives before their own. Every day, they and these students are in my heart. #satchat
Positivity doesn’t mean fake cheerfulness. It can also mean verbalizing a horrible situation and finding the silver lining. Kids need to know that there are multiple ways to spin situations. #satchat
A4: Model teachers take risks. Students take risks when they see teachers take risks. Teachers take risks when they see school leaders take risks #satchat#culturize
A4: our best teachers believe in students, make connections w/ them, have high expectations for all learners, & build in supports to help students achieve. They are also innovative, realizing you need to try diff. things to help diff. students #satchat
We must also think more deeply about our actions with Ss. While a method/strategy may create a short-term gain, will it have long-term positive or negative consequences? We rarely consider that. Too focused on the now. #satchat
A4: I have learned this year that many students need to see adults sincerely apologise for mistakes or errors and then actively try to do better. Humility is so important! #satchat
A4. Fun in discovery! I whoop loudly when a student / colleague shows me how to do something better. I am thrilled by it and they know it #satchat#culturize
A4: They show up: they know that "management" is 98% your lesson being enthusiastic, motivating, organized, multifaceted, and differentiated. So they put in the energy to make lessons that are all of that. They do what's right 1st; district/school expectations come 2nd. #satchat
A4: Model teachers collaborate with other teachers. They reach across content areas. They take risks, they have empathy and hopefully some humor :-)
#satchat
In my new book, written with colleagues at Rutgers, we describe how to organize and manage an exemplary K-6 language arts program throughout the school day. What I like most is that each chapter follows a real model teacher from NJ #satchat#literacystrong@guilfordpress
Show it is okay to make mistakes, model how to adapt and overcome them. Model appropriate behaviors and actions set goals to show how to achieve them. #satchat
A4 Perseverance and vulnerability. They may make a mistake or have a lesson not go well but they own it and work to fix it. Being human to kids is critical. Show them what it looks like to have the grit we are always telling them to have. #satchat#culturize
Not sure, but it's still with us. It's important to find ways to connect with kids and keeping them from recess doesn't do that, except for the person supervising the detention. #satchat
Just seeing #satchat now. This is my first year as a vice-principal and I’m looking to build my #leadership network. Definitely will be a chat I’ll follow #following
Couldn’t agree more! Modeling how we handle mistakes or not knowing something is an opportunity to show positivity and growth mindset. Never something to feel embarrassed about. #satchat
True. But they don't need to face the world 7 times a day as 14 year olds as they walk into different classes. Intentionally preparing them is important. Pretending they're already adults is wrong. Too many Ts think High School = mini-adulthood #satchat
A4 Model teachers care about students as individuals 1st & fight for what they think will improve those kids Sometimes that upsets the powers that be & sometimes it upsets the Ss (but many will return years later to thank that teacher for pushing them to be their best) #satchat
A3
“But we’ve always done it that way!” =red flag to me. Any talk were Ss are spoken about in a generalised, negative way will always get challenged. Important Ss leave school understanding what you think about, you will likely bring it about”. Positive energy important
#satchat
A4: Model Teachers have a sense of urgency every day! They make learning intentions clear to students then support them in achieving those learning intentions. They model for students how they can be successful & they’re kind, compassionate & empathetic. #satchat
A4 Stellar teachers let students know they genuinely care about them - building confidence, helping them feel listened to, safe, and encouraged to grow. #satchat
A3 Shift the focus from testing, teacher evaluations and issues with the red tape of contract and refocus on building relationships and knowing your students, how they learn, where they want to go; work with them to help them achieve their potential #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A4: Model Ts show passion and curiosity for learning. It then becomes infectious for their Ss. I’ve seen it happening this year. Makes me proud of my Ss. #satchat
A4: model teachers, like students, are humans - so focus on the value of human connection. Talk about your life to the Ss. Talk about their lives. Model human behavior. Ss recognize and crave authenticity. #SatChat
#SaturdayMorning#satchat
Bring it on tRump trolls. She won. We know it. You know it and tRump knows it. She won and WE lost. Hear me ?? WE LOST OUR COUNTRY LOST OUR CHILDREN LOST
A4: creating a #culture of learning and respect takes time, energy, rules, routines, and creating relationships w/ Ss. Give Ss that time. Show them that you can do it together & then they can take that into their own lives #teaching#satchat
It's the first thing I ask if a teacher tells me a kiss has been struggling lately - if they say no we sit down and go through what they should say so the convo is productive - should be taught in Ed school! #satchat
A4) Absolutely LOVE coming to school each day & show it! LOVE kids! Collaborating w/colleagues, fostering student collaboration, using technology as a true learning tool, using data to pinpoint how to best grow each student, flex seating, including families. #satchat#culturize
A4: Never giving up. Having positive relationships with students and parents; always trying new things out; having no fear of failure; being a lifelong learner #satchat
A4 Always learning, trying new ideas, reflecting and sharing that practice. Collaboration with colleagues. Willing to learn from Ts & Ss. Genuinely cares about Ss! #satchat
Whole school assigned to “families” - our new take on an Advisory Period. Connecting Middle School students and staff. DM me and we can connect for supporting documents. @JW_Burr@AMLE#satchat#culturize
In reply to
@OohShiny_Sarah, @mgcjusa, @JW_Burr, @AMLE
A4: Model teachers should choose joy, show grace, be humble, and take risks. No easy task which is why model teachers are so important to the culture to show it can be done! #satchat
Teachers not only take risk, but show students that its okay to make mistakes! Cultivating courage is important for our 21st century learners. #Satchat
A4: Model teachers take risks. Students take risks when they see teachers take risks. Teachers take risks when they see school leaders take risks #satchat#culturize
A4: Own your mistakes. Use them to teach your S's how to make and take responsibility for their mistakes. Apologizing to the class or an individual S demonstrates the culture of respect we try to cultivate in our classrooms. #satchat
Making 6 yo walk in a straight line down the hall with a finger over their lips, may make the hall quiet, but do kids develop an understanding why their behavior must change depending on the setting? No. They learn to conform. #satchat
A4 A relentless determination to support their students on the trajectory of their limitless potential - begins with internalizing that ALL Ss can learn. These Ts plan, prepare, reflect, and facilitate 1:1 conversations with Ss for the purpose of helping them grow #satchat
We have to put relationship in the center as we look for ways to remake schools so that those schools have the kinds of structure, schedules, roles that lead to positive relationships. #satchat
I like this! No matter how terrible a lesson bombs, we get another chance tomorrow. Failure only happens when struggle is not followed by learning. #satchat
A4 Perseverance and vulnerability. They may make a mistake or have a lesson not go well but they own it and work to fix it. Being human to kids is critical. Show them what it looks like to have the grit we are always telling them to have. #satchat#culturize
A4. When we are truly us with the kids and bring in our passions and share with the kids. Then encourage them to do the same - no matter how nerdy! #satchathttps://t.co/E78rYmmiAu
I am not advocating for dancing around chanting It is a long weekend and I have great plans and you don't, but I will try to find the positive spin for every kid. #satchat
Amen! We can only lead by example! Others will either change because they see the impact or they won’t but our job is to do what is best for ss! #satchat#culturize
A1: Don’t wait for others to change. You change! Take responsibility for your own behavior. Don’t worry about others who are not doing the things that need to be done. Take the initiative to be the change, not the same! #Satchat#Culturize
A4: A model teacher makes and admits mistakes, always interacts with kindness, thinks aloud when teaching, shows passion for his/her work, and authentically shows students and staff that he/she is a lifelong learner #SatChat
Why aren't #Democrats talking about the "Mass Shooting Generation" known as Chicagoians? Why are they ignored by the party that supposedly loves them? #SaturdayMotivation#satchat
A4: Model teachers demonstrate an interest in Ss, show the desire to continue learning all of the time, and set a positive example. They also take risks and promote #growthmindset. #satchat#culturize
A4) No. 1, respecting each one of their students. Being honored to serve them. Embracing every student’s challenge, not preferring compliance. Consistently pursuing family engagement. Constantly growing and sharing how. #satchat
A4: A model teacher is one that is always striving to improve their own practice through purposeful reflection for the betterment of their students. #Satchathttps://t.co/4Av5e66ZNj
A4: Model teachers are kind, compassionate individuals who take time to listen to their students (and all people in general), are present, invested, determined, and they are the people who will always "find a way rather than an excuse." #satchat#Culturize
A1. A simple "job well done", "thank you" or "you are doing great" often acknowledges educators' efforts. But more than words it's also vital to be present and visible. This encourages too. #satchat
A4: Bring energy and life to the school. Engage in the boring, administrative tasks with a smile. Find ways to connect with students all day, every day. #culturize#satchat
A4-Model teachers ask students to explain their thinking, encourage debate, assess in a variety of ways, build a classroom community and positive relationships that will last a lifetime. #satchat
A3: The “one strike and you’re out” mentality. Adults expect second chances, but may not give their Ss the same benefit. Adults have the advantage of already knowing. We have to remember that we’re there for kids’ learning, not the comfort of adults. #satchat
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
A4: Model Teachers don’t get caught up in the blame game—they find a way to make sure ALL of their students are successful and are unwilling to ever give up on any student! #satchat
To quote @ToddWhitaker: you know what you call that teacher who’s ALWAYS full of energy? Greeting kids every single day? Never a bad thing to say? “Hey Billy!” “Nice haircut!” “How bout them Yankees?” “Great!”
Overcaffeinated?
The person you wish was teaching your kid. #satchat
A4. Model teachers have been empowered and they pass it on to everyone around them both colleagues and students. They set the tone, the pace, and catalyze change. #satchat
A3: Model teachers have a vision of success for all students. They truly believe that all students can succeed and are willing to to all that they can to make it happen.
#satchat
A4: 1. Lift others up! 2. Start with the positives - personal regard 3. Listen intentionally and provide feedback without any judgment 3. Celebrate small successes #satchat#Culturize
I am in year 5 as a VP, and while I am not always religious about joining #satchat, I always enjoy the convo when I’m here, learn new ideas, and develop my PLN
A4: Model teachers find ways to gather feedback about the design of their lessons. They gather feedback from students to improve the learning experience. #satchat#culturize
A3: Rather than “nagging” and punishing a student for not complying, guiding students to “correct their error”, reteaching the expectation, conferencing privately with student & reinforcing expectation consistently. #satchat
A4: A teacher that comes to work with a positive attitude, growth mindset, and smiling from day 1. A teacher that allows students to be creative. A teacher that is focused on the learning experience not just covering material. #satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A4: Model teachers meet students where they're at, build relationships, persevere, try new things, collaborate with others, share their successes and challenges and celebrate students and their learning! Check out these model teachers yesterday https://t.co/RvLt1U5e8Y#satchat
😩 The "why" is so integral. We're teaching kids, not soldiers here. There has to be so much more than just conforming, memorizing, regurgitating. These kids are going to be working in jobs we can't imagine! #satchat
I think kids should be able to say "hi" to others they pass in the hall. Great way to connect and a social skill we all need in life. I vote for a change in hallway expectations. 😉 #SatChat
A4: Model teachers are kind, compassionate individuals who take time to listen to their students (and all people in general), are present, invested, determined, and they are the people who will always "find a way rather than an excuse." #satchat#Culturize
Agree, Tom. As leaders, we have a responsibility to grow out team with teachers who demonstrate these characteristics. As our team expands with these passionate professionals, we will increase our capacity to support our Ss #satchat
A4: model Ts are lifelong learners who show they are human like their Ss. No one strategy or tool or convo is a fix for every single S. It's all trial & error, and we're learning what works alongside our Ss too! #Satchat#Culturize
A4: reflective, LOVES kids (even when it’s hard too sometimes) holds high expectations, builds relationships, never stops learning, and is a Champion for kids! #weareWetmore#Satchat#culturize
Happy, of course. In their face, overly excited, no. My message need be clear: I look forward to tomorrow but I am happy to be hear today with you. School shouldn’t be a place we’re looking to break free from tremendously. #satchat#Culturize
Most model teachers will never admit they are a model teacher because they are in a perpetual state of trying to get better and rarely do they believe they have it completely right #satchat
A4: Model teachers take risks. Students take risks when they see teachers take risks. Teachers take risks when they see school leaders take risks #satchat#culturize
THIS! #satchat@MrDetering#Culturize We have talked about this at our school this year!!! There are a LOT of reasons why they might not be ready to “Spanish” today! Patience and understanding go a long way!
A3: believing that all kids are 100% ready to be in their class the moment they walk in the door. No way!!! Their lives, other classes, homes, and more affect them every moment. Don't forget that when you think that Parabolas are going to matter today. #satchat#makeitreal
It's difficult when student behavior impacts a lesson that teachers work so hard on planning, preparing and delivering. We must keep working towards the root cause behind the behaviors we witness. #satchat
❤️ it! A culture of learning. Not everyone does things at the same pace. Maybe they’ll master it in May! That doesn’t mean they’re less of a student or person. We are here to learn and grow and help each other learn and grow. #satchat
A5. Having a positive impact on a child's life is a blessing. Being an educator allows one to constantly improve upon themselves because they have a responsibility to be better #satchat
Agree but attitude is everything. I try and be as upbeat as possible even when teaching boring things like spreadsheets. My kids know I love them but they hate them:)
We still have fun.
#satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5: Every day as an educator you have the opportunity to change the course of someone’s life through your words or actions. To teach is to serve. To serve is to live. Live a life fulfilled. #Satchat#Culturize
A5: teaching is the single most influential job in life (besides parenting) if you really want to help change our world and improve the quality of people then participate! Do these jobs and show kids/adults the quality people we are raising as an education community #satchat
I’ve walked through school hallways and tried to talk to a student walking by and they wouldn’t because they didn’t want to get in trouble for talking in the hall. #satchat
A5: Everyday is a new challenge and a new opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child or colleague. We constantly get to learn right along side those that will be our future. There is no greater calling. #culturize#satchat
#satchat I honestly don’t care about any educational behaviors before I care about them truly loving their kids. If they have no compassion or empathy for their students, they will never do what it takes to effectively reach them on an educational level. Reach the person first.
A5: The pressures can make this a tough sell right now, especially for new teachers starting out, but there is no better profession I could think of. #satchat
Q5) Two words: human capital. What would the world look like without enthusiastic and understanding people to move everyone forward? You don't do it for the money, you do it for the future!
#satchat#culturize#EDU5720@JMcCarthyEdS
A2. LISTEN to and make connections with each and every student! Give them voice and choice in the classroom. Encourage and support growth of individuals. If you make the experience all about compliance and conformity, you'll turn them off and stifle their growth! #SatChat
A4: Willingness to be human in front of their Ss and not have a “perfect teacher” persona. Ss know they can build relationships with those that they can relate to. #satchat
Join the new #EPNOh chat Thursday at 8:30 pm EST to discuss
College and Career Educational Pathways! The diploma is just the beginning we must focus on preparing our students for their individualized career aspirations! #EPNOh#satchat
A4 Model teachers are always learning, they are currently with the pedagogical strategies and have good collaborative relationships with other staff, parents and their Ss. #satchat
A5: Isn't every career pursuit, at its heart, a desire to make a difference? You can be a nurse, counselor, psychologist, accountant, sanitation engineer... all AT THE SAME TIME while teaching. What a deal!
#satchat
A4: Model teachers do what they ask of their students - growth mindset, come to class prepared, and are ever observant of the little things “the geranium on the windowsill just died, but teacher you went right on.” #Satchat#culturize
A3: Ts need to be outcome focused. Is it more important to pick a fight about a student not having a pencil or to just lend them the pencil so they can get to work? I’m an adult, and I promise I’m found without something I need for a task sometimes. #satchat#Culturize
A4: Model teachers should choose joy, show grace, be humble, and take risks. No easy task which is why model teachers are so important to the culture to show it can be done! #satchat
A5: Teaching? It's endless variety and a constant challenge. It's a great alternative for people who are sick of sitting in a desk and doing something that won't be missed if you're out. You really have to WORK. Administration? I don't know why anyone does that. ;) #satchat
I remind my students every time we go into the hall that we need to be quiet so that we don't interrupt the learning of others. They are probably sick of hearing it by now, but I want empathy, not conformity! #satchat
A5: Not every profession allows one to influence the future & lives but like every career path it's not for everyone. Those who want that understand #satchat
A4: Model teachers put their students first. They take the risks necessary to help children grow. They talk about difficult issues and allow students to express themselves without judgement. #Satchat
Agree--I often use sports analogies for practice that is not the most fun, but necessary--like swimming laps in the pool. I tell ways they can make that fun too by using imagination, making a game of it. . . .#satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
And that's what @casas_jimmy writes about. We can be the enthusiasm that generates positivity and change. It's the classic "Hope is not a strategy" moment. Let's act! I'll come to Sydney and we can act together! #satchat
A3 Requiring students to take a test after finishing what is supposed to be a pleasurable self-selected read. Very disheartening to this elem librarian & should be eliminated. #satchat.
Q3: What are some current adult behaviors in schools that are not positive for kids that need to be adjusted, re-examined, or eliminated all together? #satchat#culturize
I start each day with a fresh start because some students are just having a bad day. When I see that, I may ask them if they need to talk or if they are OK as well. Students like to feel like teachers care about them and not just the subject they teach. #satchat
A5: There is no better way to impact the world of tomorrow than to educate the children of today. What better reason is there than that?. #Satchathttps://t.co/4lAoY0YyND
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5: I can’t imagine doing anything other than being an educator. So rewarding and FUN. A bad day is still awesome because the kids make it so. Seeing the kids wonder and curiosity makes it all worthwhile #satchat
#satchat Kudos to the teacher that used his self to shield students. Teachers play a very positive but yet drastic role. When I’m around anybody I praise people that deserve to be praised.
A5: Changing perceptions takes time. As educators, we don't do a good job of letting others know the difference we make. We need to tell the story better. AND, we need to undertand the importance of building relationship with ALL of our stakeholders. #satchat#culturize
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5: It is all about what one expects of life. Being an educator, like parenting, is difficult but extremely rewarding, gratifying and fulfilling.
#satchat
A5 even on my worst days, I remind myself that I have ___ students who are counting on me and for whom I might be the only adult who cares for them. Every day I mkae sure to thank/congratulate a student, esp. those who don't seem connected to anyone #satchat
A5: No other profession has the ability to create a brighter future quite like educators. We have the opportunity to bring light to the darkness and change lives. I’d say this is a career worth pursuing. #satchat@ERobbPrincipal@KGT_Educator@_on11@megan_hacholski
A4: Reflective; a learner; team player; innovative; brings solutions to the table when they're are concerns; excellent communicator with families; high expectations for all students; confidence builder; positive; do-what-it takes mentality; See teaching as learning. #satchat
How can you not appreciate a long weekend? I think there’s a difference between loving a break and wanting to escape the kids. And being vocal about that. #satchat
a more poisonous act is when your coordinator introduces new Ts to former Ts by making comments like "This is my best teacher here" or categorizing the staff. #satchat
Education is a great career because you can make a difference to the present and future. Education is both challenging and heartwarming, everyday is different always have an opportunity to try again #satchat
Education is an overwhelming world to be in right now with so many policies, procedures, tests, and expectations but at the end of the day- we need to remember that education is about the children and preparing them to become our future leaders. #satchat
A5: 2/2 Ss connecting with a text, sharing new things with each other, that S that tells you they applied to college b/c of you (personal fav). Those are what make teaching worthwhile. #satchat
My cover letter is literally a single blank sheet of paper with my Twitter handle and this profile photo in the middle.
Spend thirty seconds on this timeline and tell me you wouldn’t want to have my job.

Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5- Teaching is a career that you get to not only touch a life, but your’s will be as well. Constant learning and never the same. Teaching is an adventure #satchat#loveteaching
A3: Ts need to be outcome focused. Is it more important to pick a fight about a S not having a pencil or to just lend them the pencil so they can get to work? I’m a T, & I promise I’m found w/o something I need for a task sometimes. I’d rather fight FOR my Ss. #satchat#Culturize
A5: Educators touch the future-today, facilitating learning, social and emotional development and heart, kids need caring committed adults to guide their path toward success! #satchat
A5: Education has already become so much more than "schools." The educational leaders of tomorrow will be the people who can see beyond classroom walls, make global connections and contributions, and facilitate authentic life experiences for our students. #satchat#Culturize
A5: Teaching is a job that offers so many rewarding experiences. From helping that struggling student succeed, helping out in your school community, and developing relationships. Being in education for 15 years now, I truly love seeing what students have become. #satchat

A5: Going into the education field can be the most rewarding experience next to being a parent. You get to see kids learning, excited, and engaged right in front of you bc of the work you do. It takes hard work, focus, effort, & a positive attitude. But it is WORTH IT!
#satchat
#satchat This grandmother and her rescues will lose their homes without our help. Would you give just $5 to give them a miracle? Time is running out. Please don’t just RT, donate! https://t.co/esoj4qYaPA
A4. Model teachers ARE change. They constantly are searching for ways stretch the boundaries of learning and empower their kids to reach further still. They value student voice and choice to create the greatest learning experience possible. #satchat
A4
In Australia we have an extensive set of Teacher Standards that all teachers across the country are accredited/ registered against. I would add empathy and a desire to see every S they teach, achieve their best. See: https://t.co/sjXCKpNjY1#satchat
A5: Being an ed goes far beyond content. We are teaching the future of our world, which is super powerful and a big responsibility. It requires strength, discipline, & a desire to keep growing. Eds influence and teach future inventors, policy makers, scientists, etc. #satchat
A5: you do make an impact on lives. Do it for those "a-ha" moments Ss have. Do it for the thank you when a student accomplishes a difficult task. Do it for the smiles, tears, laughs, and love that a community share together! It's a family. #satchat
A4: The Ts who inspired me to teach always exhibited a passion for creating an environment in the classroom that made me feel welcomed and appreciated as a person! #satchat#conversechat
A5: Many times the most rewarding moments come years later when you run into former students and they thank you and share with you their successes or ask for advice because they’re going through a rough stretch! It’s the human connection! #satchat
I completely agree #satchat Rapport creates a less tense and more manageable classroom environment. Moreover, students and teachers create a link of respect and trust.
Good point. In an age of testing and compliance, it’s important not to forget risk taking, problem solving skills, and growth mindset in classrooms and schools #satchat
A4: Model teachers put their students first. They take the risks necessary to help children grow. They talk about difficult issues and allow students to express themselves without judgement. #Satchat
A3. School staff need to meet kids where they are, not expect them to enter meeting expectations of who they should be. We also need to realize that we SERVE- our schools aren't silos! We need to be connected to the changes of the world. #SatChat
A5: For me, there is nothing more rewarding than witnessing Ss and Ts grow and do more than they though possible and knowing that I had a small part in it. #Satchat
A5: Being a T is tough and you don't get to leave it at school but it's the most rewarding thing to know that you're making a difference. Ss will cherish you and remember that they were valued & believed in #satchat

A1 Go out of your way to be the mirror for others. Work hard to see what is going on in other classrooms to build positive relationships. Using #Observeme protocal can give us moments to point out the greatness in others! #satchat
A5: Going into education is like taking a jouney. Yes- you will have challenges but they will be good challenges along the way that you will experience. #satchat
A5 We should be honest with our future educators and admin. This work is not for everyone. It will be the hardest yet most rewarding work you can do. Not all the time but when you do...wow. #satchat#culturize
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5 ~ I still run into former Ss that thank me! I still remember being in my favorite classes growing up! Education is a difficult, but rewarding vocation! #satchat
A5: Educators truly have the ability to shape the future. Becoming an educator allows you to serve others, to become a key part of your community, and to make a lasting impact on students. #satchat@casas_jimmy

A5. You know that feeling you get at Christmas when shop for a special gift, carefully wrap it and then donate it to a child in need? It’s kind of like that, except that it’s everyday, all year long. #satchat
A5 every day, I get to have amazing conversations with young minds who are willing to take creative, intellectual, and emotional risks. There are few things more more-inspiring than what they are willing to create/express/discover when they are supported & challenged #satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5: Being an educator gives one the opportunity to be a part of something greater collectively--more than any one person could achieve individually. #satchat
A5: Is it bad to suggest we need to spend more time working across schools, districts, and states to change how teaching and admin is treated and viewed by politicians and stakeholders? If we want more to join us, we have to change the storyline of schools in America. #satchat
A5: you do make an impact on lives. Do it for those "a-ha" moments Ss have. Do it for the thank you when a student accomplishes a difficult task. Do it for the smiles, tears, laughs, and love that a community share together! It's a family. #satchat

A5 It takes a special kind of "crazy" to do what we do ... think about it, we willingly walk into a class full of kids whose parents complain about the stress of taking care of one ... we have 20 plus at one time ... we must be insane. #satchat
A5: teachers and admin have the ability of make a difference for all kids... but for some students you are the game changer who will make THE difference #satchat#bethechange#culturize

Wow I'd be really bad...my classroom is very noisy most of the time:) And I am very loud in the hallway. I want to make sure the kids I engage with hear me:)

A4: A model teacher is someone they can look up to, are approachable, show that they are real “share things about yourself”, aspire to be the teacher you always wanted in whatever it is you teach & be there for them for the good & challenging days! #satchat
A5
A perennial issue is the public discourse about #education. 1990s Australian Senate had an inquiry into the Status of Teachers. Their report was called “A Class Act”. This snippet gives you some idea as to where it comes from&the public narrative that can be iterative #satchat
A3: There is no excuse for not contacting a parent whose student is failing a class. The conversation is sure to take on a more emotional & negative tone if the communication comes after the grade has been given. #Satchat#Culturize
Most model teachers will never admit they are a model teacher because they are in a perpetual state of trying to get better and rarely do they believe they have it completely right #satchat
Sometimes when I wake up early on Saturdays I participate in #satchat but I'm not ready to pretend all is normal in the world of education after 17 people died in a public school in America. I'll spend my morning retweeting #GunContolNow while hoping my prek students stay safe.
We banned removing recess this year - causes us to be more creative and actually find out what's going on and having students reflect vs the easy out of punishment only #satchat#Culturize
Q1: There are an abundance of frustrations & blessings that come w/being an educator. What words of encouragement can u give others 2 inspire them 2 believe they can still be the change 4 kids & colleagues? #satchat#culturize
The Model teachers nowadays are Youtube, Buzzfeed, snapchat,Instagram the Actual 10% of Great teachers are smothered by 90% of the worthless, brain washing unionized protected, cheated through college, fake certified sexual molesting children teachers. #satchat
A5: As a teacher, coach, admin you have ability to build relationships that last. 22 years in education with a very large extended "family" based on positive relationships and experiences together. That is truly priceless. #SatChat#culturize
A5: Teachers don't teach for the income, they teach for the outcome. Making a difference in lives of people is a great honor. When I'm tired in the morning, I get out of bed because there are children and adults depending on me. #satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5: You really are making a difference so many lives. I often think of the experinces i had as a student (both good and bad) and use them in my position as an educator. #satchat
Teaching rewards are lasting. Twenty years later when YOUR kids become doctors, scientists, engineers when others thought they would become nothing is worth it. They find you through social media because you cared... you KNOW you made a difference #satchat
Model teachers have high standards and unfailing patience. They greet. They give feedback with dignity & excitement (look what you did/could do!). They use the whole classroom to communicate goals & build community. #satchat a4
A3: Worrying about the system. About high-stakes. About tests. About evals. Kids see this. But until fear is removed at system level (states, mandates, etc) fear will replace growth. Even if you cheerlead and bring individual pockets of joy. #satchat
#satchat#culturize even when you feel like quitting or feel hopeless when you have lazy co-workers, a passionate teacher will always find that speak to shine and do his/her best.
A5: Thinking about how to answer this and I get teary eyed, in a good way. Don’t even know where to start. For me it’s about planting a seed and creating a spark. For both Ss and Ts. I just can’t see myself doing anything else. #Satchat
A5: I think we should share our own reasons and experiences with them. Something made us decide a future as an educator was important, they should know why! #satchat#conversechat#futureEducator
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
God, we need to redefine "high performing." HPF should equal- all kids are excited to be there, all kids have friends, all kids are heard, all kids have goals... I could go on and on. #Satchat
A5: one of the best ways to positively change lives and impact futures! After 24 years, it's great to still connect with my students as they journey through life. #satchat
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A5 Ts & Admins shape the future, inspire Ss, are a constant in children's lives while they are in his/her class, are important for community to thrive, #satchat
A5-2: I feel that I have learned as much, if not more, from the Ss that I taught, as that which they had learned from me. As a T- my life was enriched by my Ss and that is something that far outranks all of the challenging aspects of education. #satchat
A3: We are role-models for students and they are our mirrors. We need to be showing the expected behavior at all times. Students see you, students hear you. #satchat
#satchat Definitely! I've enjoyed the jobs where co-workers care about each other as a person. Having administrators that take the time to learn who you are builds positive relationships. It also helps gauge their strengths and what they can bring to the overall picture.
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
The “right teacher” doesn’t need to be perfect every day, just creating those moments and opportunities to show caring and compassion make the difference. Also, the “right teacher” can also be anyone on the school’s campus. #Culturize#Satchat
Unfortunately I have to leave this morning’s #satchat Thanks for introducing me to this great professional learning network. I’ll read through today’s post later this afternoon. #following
What is every T who was spending time in a chat this morning spent less than 1/2 that time emailing reps to demand gun control to save our students? Use @resistbot . #satchat#edtech
A3: I think we have to remember that any time a child is being discussed with another colleague, we’re talking about someone’s child—the center of another person’s love. If you can be anything, ##benicetokids ! #satchat
A5 Why I become an educator? My 9th grade math Teacher took me from a D to a B in a term as she believed in me and my future and saw more potential. I want to be this teacher. #satchat
I know. And I understand. I've been crying since Wed. I popped in on the chat because I want to see the power of positive people and not the horrific...
#satchat
Sometimes when I wake up early on Saturdays I participate in #satchat but I'm not ready to pretend all is normal in the world of education after 17 people died in a public school in America. I'll spend my morning retweeting #GunContolNow while hoping my prek students stay safe.
A5. My Ps wanted me to be a doctor. Guess what? I did better. I’m an educator. I get to do brain surgery and heart surgery on a daily basis. Sometimes my patients don’t want my help, but we love them and care for them anyway. #satchat
This is what our school's Community Problem Solving club is all about! Watching my students confidently present their project work to a room full of environmental educators was so rewarding. What will these students accomplish in the future?! #Proud2BMillstone#satchat
A5: Education is a way to touch the future. Do you want to see the world become a better place? Be a positive influence in a child's life. Teach them material that will help them succeed in life. Show them care. What better way to "Be the change?" #Satchat
A5 You get to be somebody’s hero and mentor everyday, even if you don’t know it. You get to be the reason someone comes to school and has a smile on their face. You just might be the difference maker for them and change the course of their whole life. #satchat#whynot
Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A5 If you ever want to feel like a celebrity... a rock star... walk through the halls as an admin @KirkElementary .... to Ss we are their everyday heroes... we are the ones they look up to... we are the ones that ignite their spark and give them hope. #Satchat
A6: We have to be willing to be broken and re-assembled. Our students teach us, if we observe and listen, with as soft a heart and open a mind as we expect from them.
#satchat
I completely agree... #Satchat#Culturize if someone wants to see a miracle, go to a poor school and take some great teachers to give classes and you will see how that classroom gleams of joy.
A6. It isn't easy work, but it's critical for the success of our communities. We need creative problem solvers and innovators to take on big challenges! Without a quality education, how many students won't develop into the people we need? #SatChat#Culturize
A5: Why become an educator? We have an unfathomable opportunity to make a difference in the live of a child, family, community. A difference that will affect generations. It sounds cliche' but it's true. #satchat#bethedifference
A5 A teacher is like an artist w/a living medium on their clssrm canvas. Knowing where colors need to be or when they should be allowed to run is part of the challenge. Its not easy, & you'll make smudges, but when you step back & look at what was created, beauty! #satchat
God, we need to redefine "high performing." HPF should equal- all kids are excited to be there, all kids have friends, all kids are heard, all kids have goals... I could go on and on. #Satchat
also translates to instructional strategy. Why do we follow “I do, We do, you do”? Why do we assume kids can’t until I show them first? And sure they probably can after you do show them first, but what’s the long term consequences? Ss don’t learn to be self-starters. #satchat
A4: Model Ts are #studentcentered. They do what’s best for Ss. They fight for it, advocate for it, & are willing to risk the judgement f/ others as they forge ahead to achieve it. Model Ts believe that every S can learn & support them (& fellow staff) until that happens. #satchat
Awesome teachers spend more time creating engaging lessons that interest students and less time trying to make students engage in lessons that aren’t interesting. #education#edchat#edtech#SaturdayMotivation#satchat
A6: We can start by sharing in the same mission and vision, all while ensuring that our teaching and interactions are positive and intentional! #satchat
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: Share the good things going on in your class to inspire others to try something new. We don't get the chance to "go" visit, so make it easy by using the virtual world to open your classroom doors! #satchat
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: By focusing on what is within my control: me. The best way to make a difference and impact the culture is to model continuous and never ending improvement.
#satchat
A6: The best educators recognize they are a work in progress. They don’t consider themselves “experts” and value the importance of learning from others. #Satchat#Culturize
A6: Model what you want to see, keep connecting, spread positivity, encourage and help others to shine! Let’s keep building up our students and colleagues! We are in this together for the betterment of our world. #satchat
A6: Have the conversations about goals, ideals, values, vision and work collaboratively to facilitate a positive, inclusive, caring school culture! Remain positive! #satchat
#satchat I think we have to be honest, respectful, and focused. Too often we are afraid to speak with honesty, and honesty is what will help us to bring our schools forward to places of compassion, care, and academic success.
A5: Our Ss need you- they need the creativity, the passion, the joy you'd bring to their schools. They need to know you're invested in building their characters, their communities. They NEED to know you're rooting for them to succeed, to change the world. #SatChat
A5: Thinking about how to answer this and I get teary eyed, in a good way. Don’t even know where to start. For me it’s about planting a seed and creating a spark. For both Ss and Ts. I just can’t see myself doing anything else. #Satchat
The FBI's Florida debacle - the FBI was too busy trying to play kingmaker, to be bothered to investigate a mass murderer.
Mass Shooting Generation #SaturdayMorning#satchat
A6: It has to start from the ground up. Other teachers need to inspire either teachers to desire greatness. It cannot be bred out of fear but out of a desire to be the great teacher that they wanted to be when they started the profession. #SatChat
Q6) Continue to follow the innovative research about the way students learn and differentiation #SoAllCanLearn. Develop a positive support system and find mentors to help you grow.
#satchat#EDU5720@JMcCarthyEdS
A6: We have to walk the talk to #culturize our schools to expect excellence from our students & each other. Our relationships will be fruit of those efforts #satchat
A6 We can EMPOWER students and teachers to approach their work and relationships as opportunities to enact their values. 😊 https://t.co/gJkpGucobu#satchat
I keep a daily journal what is going great, what is in-progress of change, what can I improve on. It's been enlightening, a true game changer for me. Note: These three prompts are taken from my observations & conversations throughout my school not just my own classroom. #satchat
A6: Ensuring we move forward = I often talk about "moderanizing" "moving forward" & improving.
1. Model it.
2. Create opportunities to brainstorm - we do "Future Friday" brainstorming
3. Engage many educators in the experience
4. pick something as a positive example

Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: Surround yourself by those who believe in what you believe in - we model so that others start doing the same - caring for others, serving kids, lifting others up, changing the status quo #satchat#Culturize
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6, explain to Ss that you expect better from them in terms of behaviors and efforts that are less than desired. Poor grades & punishments w/out explanations do not help. Make them teachable moments. #SatChat
A6: Collaborate with specific goals in mind. We aren't going to make positive change alone, and we're not going to make positive change going in different directions. #satchat
A6: A culture of excellence begins by looking in the mirror. @casas_jimmy's phrase "We model what we get" is so important. It begins with us. We have the opportunity to shape what excellence looks like in our classrooms and schools. #startrightnow#culturize#satchat
A6: Model what we expect and speak up (privately) when we witness behaviors that are contrary to our building goals. Be brave, be bold and keep the conversation focused on what is best for kids. #SatChat
A6 we frequently talk about how exciting & rewarding it will be to learn something new, to master a difficult skill, and to grow. each new achievement unlocks new abilities and challenges, like unlocking a video game's secret levels #satchat
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: They never keep their heads down or “stay in their lane” when it comes to leading. They instead choose 2 push themselves forward in order 2 disrupt the status quo 2 bring about positive change for S’s, their school, & their community. #Satchat#Culturize
And forge new paths of success for every student--we can't leave any student behind, and I think that will take greater coordination with community organizations. Thanks for a super #satchat I've got your book, looking forward to the read :)
#satchat ..And sometimes you don't even know it. You can have a S that you think doesn't care & then you see them outside of class & they are so excited to see you or you hear from other staff that they were excitedly telling them about a project they are working on in your class
Start a lesson (or 5 or 10) with an exploration. Allow Ss to safely be uncomfortable, encourage their thinking even if it's wrong (and let them know it's ok) and let the@ have real conversations! It changes classroom landscape! #SatChat
A6: The best educators recognize they are a work in progress. They don’t consider themselves “experts” and value the importance of learning from others. #Satchat#Culturize
A6: challenge everyone (self, Ss, Ts, admin) with reflection: how do we make it bigger, better, awesomer next time? Especially if something went really well! #satchat
a6: In addition to expanding a narrow definition of excellence, give and support teacher autonomy and self-directed learning by Ts and staff. Model what you preach- show kids that learning lasts a lifetime. #satchat
A6: We have to walk the talk to #culturize our schools to expect excellence from our students & each other. Our relationships will be fruit of those efforts #satchat
A6: Don’t wait on admin or district to push new ideas, or come up with solutions. Lead by example, enlist other teachers, and make the changes we believe help all students. We lead, they follow, or we become admin/district leaders and empower the next gen of teachers. #satchat
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: We must be transparent when we are learning and growing too. Why not tell the kids what you’re reading, about the content PD you attended, or what documentary inspired you to research in a database... your habits will become their habits #satchat
A6: model what you want from your culture. Be the culture change. Don't state what you want and then do nothing about it. Recognize that each individual in the school is your culture. Include all. Do best for everyone. #satchat
13 Russian nationals, 1 for each stripe on the US flag, indicted for US election interference. Now, we need 50 Republicans, including Trump/Pence, 1 for each star on the US flag, to b indicted for treason. Then once again "We the People" will have our Old Glory once more #Mueller
A6: engage staff in book studies on culture and schools. Ensure vision and mission are always at the front of our work. As admin we have to engage others in reflective thinking. We also have to engage parents that way too! #satchat! #Culturize
A6: As our principal says, "Be YOUR best every day." Truly model the principles you believe in to the best of your ability. Don't stay silent when situations arise that call for you to speak up. Be brave and be honest with your students and other faculty. #Satchat
A6 As ed leaders, we have a responsibility to set the tenor, tone, & expectation of excellence in our schools. This requires us to set the standard for all staff to continuously support our Ss academic, social, emotional, & leadership growth #satchat
A6 Be the example of what it is to expect everyone's A game. Whatever that is for each person. Hold yourself to the same high expectations. We will all fall but the trick is to own it and get back up. Set that positive tone! #satchat#culturize
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6
Research presented at Harvard Grad School of Ed by Dr Jeff Howard says efficacy=huge impact #eduwins If a S believes they can, most likely they will!
#satchat
A6: We need to take a deep reflective look at the why behind what we do in our schools and districts- we need to reinvent the how so that it aligns with where we want our why to be in order to best prepare our Ss for the future. #satchat
So, it's #SaturdayMorning and I want to know what everyones favorite cereal was growing up? Remember the days of waking up early to watch Saturday morning cartoons and loading up on sugary cereal? Ah, classic times. #SatChat
A6: To impact that change and the ability to #culturize...build in time for teachers to reflect. Don't just drive full speed ahead. #satchat#growthmindset
A6: This is the Q for my colleagues I want to pose next week at our PD. I'm not sure if we can dismiss total doubt to ensure growth but I do know we can keep pushing forward, never giving up on each other nor our Ss - esp during "standardized testing season." #Satchat#Culturize
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6 IMO the only person you can demand excellence from is yourself, & as teacher, if you dont do that, you shouldn't expect it from your students or colleagues. The year I am too tired to seek to improve my craft is the year I retire #satchat
Start with the person in the mirror. #BeTheChange you want to see. Model high expectations for yourself & that will spread to those around you. #Satchat
Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: We demonstrate an expectation of excellence when excellence is what we focus on. Call it out, showcase it, praise it, celebrate it. Teach and lead with your best in mind! #satchat

Q6: I believe no one went into education to be average. In what ways can we ensure moving forward that we as adults help "Culturize" our schools to expect excellence from our students & from each other? #satchat#culturize
A6: I don’t want to be average! We must grow ourselves and be Teacher/Learners. When we allow ourselves to stop growing professionally we also cause our Ss to stop growing. Change is hard but the struggle is necessary for us to challenge ourselves to be better for kids.#satchat
A6: All individuals Ts Ss,and admin should make it a goal to do something different https://t.co/R6viOruUua will help keep things fresh and challenging and fosters new ideas. There needs to be a sharing component to it as well so others are exposed the new ideas #Satchat

February can be a trying month for us educators. Let's recheck ourselves on Monday morning & focus on the abundance of blessing in our lives & share a bit of kindness w/our S's & colleagues. #Satchat#Culturize
A6: If we want ALL students to be invested in success, we must have models that support all different learning pathways. One-size-fits-all learning is no longer acceptable and will not create students who love to learn. #customizedlearning#edtech#satchat
A4. Model teachers value ALL learners - including their peers. They work hard to solve challenges and help struggling learners. They create powerfully engaging classroom experiences that transcend standards and assessments. #satchat#Culturize
Yes! - to this! Always learning. Always growing. Still leading. Ever changing. Checking the pulse of our colleagues AND our Ss. Great commentary this a.m. 👍 #Satchat#Culturize
A7: After days like Wednesday, hold them all a little tighter, show them they're loved, show them that even if they're angry they're not excluded and left for lost. #RestorativeJustice#satchat
No #parents ever want to get that call that their child was in an accident. That call came Thurs night. My son, driving in the rain, totaled his car. I am able 2 hug him & tell him I love him because he was wearing a seatbelt. Remind them & yourselves 💜#grateful#Satchat

It's good we're in different places spreading the good word and #BeTheChange Ss need Ts everywhere.

Q5: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & admin roles are not worth pursuing. Share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #satchat#culturize
A6: I learn from my staff & I am open about that. I respect that they are the experts in the classrooms, and work to connect them with other experts through Twitter Chats, partnerships, etc. I read books/blogs to help me grow, so that I can better serve/lead our team #satchat

Great leaders:
1)Make a commitment to grow daily.
2) Value the process more than events.
3) Don’t wait for inspiration.
4) Are willing to sacrifice pleasure for opportunity.
5) Dream big.
6) Plan their priorities.
7) Give up to go up. #satchat#culturize
It's been a while, but I don't recall you calling out Bill Clinton as a misogynist, rapist and womanizer in or around time of the 1999 world cup. Selective outrage, maybe? #SaturdayMorning#satchat
So if an athlete has different political views than you, you are happy they don't medal. This is what I was reading too much of on twitter. This what we've become. God help us all.
How to promote excellence in school: I learned that it is difficult for a teacher to say "No" to a request by their principal to go the extra yard for their students when they see their principal going the extra football field for them (both students & teacher) #satchat
A6: Consistently model what we what to see in others. Be great at “seeing” and “listening”. We can learn great things from everyone regardless of their position/role at our schools. #Culturize#Satchat
Take a moment to recognize & follow a fellow educator this morning from #Satchat Together we are better. The key is to surround yourself w/excellence & there is plenty of it here this AM! #Culturize

Remember. #Trump will never discuss #GunReform Plus he doesn't care about mental health which is obvious since he slashed it in his #TaxReform He doesn't care about children being murdered! #satchat#NRABloodMoney
A6: Do something outside of your own wheelhouse. Coach something new and get to know Ss in a different capacity. Lead a committee or a parent book study. Stretch yourself. And find a peer who will help make the stretch happen. #SatChat
A6. I like the notion of creating a framework that describes what excellence looks like, sounds like, feels like, etc. That framework has measurable & immeasurable components but has no finish line because #culturize-ing a school is responsive and mercurial #satchat
A6: Getting rid of the idea that excellence is synonymous w/ doing more. More is a product of volume. Excellence can come from more, less, the same, different... it's how we help each other w/ what we've got. You don't bring more food to a pot luck, you bring your food. #satchat
Our principal is like that too. Building better teacher leaders this way. More admin could take a page from their book - Empower the teachers don't just train them. #satchat

Who signed into law making it easier for all mentally ill people to get guns?
Trump
It's was the very FIRST legislation he signed?
So even if he had mental issues Trump, backed by his $21 Million NRA DONATIONS, still would make it easier!

Disagree. I never liked math and it was my worst subject. Then I majored in it and have been teaching it for 31 years. Be HONEST with your students. It can be part of making it more accessible to them. I contrast my own school experience with how I see it now! #satchat
A6: Make everyone feel like they are part of the team, celebrate all members of your school community, include student and parent voices, eliminate silos, keep cliques from forming and refrain from "inner circle" decision making. #satchat
Thanks for an inspiring Saturday morning! #satchat Now I can enjoy the day and wait for my #Culturize book to come in the mail. Looking forward to reading it after I finish #ditchbook@jmattmiller@casas_jimmy I need Spring Break to catch up!

The @Mets and their fan base love lefties with an ERA north of 4.00. I heard Hollywood is doing an ensemble cast Rom Com about the love affair between the NYM faithful and Jon Niese. A true love story.
@casas_jimmy For sure & we as educators have to help students find what they are good at - sometime what we model - even failures (unsuccessful lessons) models adversity & helps them see the good in themselves. #satchat#edchat#culturiz
Tom is right, too. Telling them that and leaving the story there is damaging. Plenty of studies show that. But if you're telling them and the story continues, like yours does Jim, then it's got a totally different purpose and outcome...a good one. #satchat
