Hi! Hankins-commentator for tonight's #TeachPos game. I teach 2nd grade in HouTX & am a 13th yr veteran @KirkElementary (my real favorite team).
Favorite football team...well, when the Oilers left, had to have a team! Still love the Texans...just not when they're playing the...
Hey #teachpos peeps. Steph Dill elementary SPED T in Colorado. This is my 25th yr. I don't really watch or follow football, but hey I will try to make the nections.
Hey friends! Alicia from NC - I'm on special teams, the holder of the football for the placekicker. I'm a seasoned player, never assuming to know it all! Love my @Panthers#Teachpos
A1: I coach my players & teach that as long as they are giving their best "work on the field"-that is all I want. I want effort, not perfection.
This pertains to character too and that I model. When I make mistakes, I apologize. (It's ok to say sorry to your players.) #TeachPos
A1: Being real about expectations and showing students that school is a reflection of life. Things don't always go as planned. We need to learn from our mistakes, head held high. #teachpos
A1: Mistakes are where true learning opportunities occur. You learn about how you respond, your attitude towards obstacles, your ability to overcome and move on. Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and regroup #teachPOS
A1 I always like to introduce growth mindset by asking them what they can now that they couldn't do as a Kinder. The list is long, and we talk about how rocky it is to learn all those things. #teachpos
A1: Losing a fumble doesn’t mean you’re going to lose the game! If we don’t reach mastery the first time that is okay! We need to give our players more than one opportunity to show their worth! Get up, dust off and try to get to that end zone! #teachpos
A1 - We promote the trick play mentality. It’s okay to take risks as long as you are confident in your ability. This comes from praise, trust, love and never doubting what’s possible. #TeachPos
A1: I've been teaching and modeling the Growth Mindset and how the truly wise person recognizes welcomes and grows from fumbles Nine-year-olds think one and done is all they get. Have to change those mindsets #teachpos
#teachpos - It all starts with your reaction when they make mistakes. Show a growth mindset as a coach and create an environment where mistakes and obstacles make us better.
A1: It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. As the principal, I encourage my teachers to take risks and teach outside the box. Challenge the status quo and make new roads. #teachpos
A1 I admit when I make a mistake so they can see it’s okay. When they struggle we all work together to figure out the right answer or a better way. We also have spoken about how your brain grows when you struggle and it’s a good thing and keep pushing through #TeachPos
A1 We all make mistakes letting our team know its ok but more importantly having open and honest discussions on how to learn from those mistakes. When you have established trust with your team mistakes become a way to get better rather than a gotcha #teachpos
As Yoda once said, "The greatest teacher failure is."
Only upon reflection of our past mistakes can we find the path that will allow us to succeed in the future.
I always tell me Ss it is alright to fall down nine times, just make sure you get up ten.
#TeachPos
A1: It is necessary to practice what happens during a fumble with intention so students are ready to 1. Reflect. 2. React. 3. Rebound. 4. Regroup. #teachpos
A1b I have moved my class over to mastery learning. It’s so much easier for my students to monitor their learning and reflect on what they need to get better at! If we have a problem holding on to the ball we can practice and try again! #teachpos
A1: Definitely comes back to excellent coaching. We need to be out in the trenches, cheering on our players encouraging them to take risks. Furthermore, we must be bold enough to model what risk-taking looks like. If we don't take risks, how can we expect our Ss to? #teachpos
A1: I teach my students that it is okay to fumble by teaching them about cultivating a growth mindset. I tell them that I make mistakes too and that no one is perfect, but that does not mean that we stop trying. #teachpos
A1: Mistakes are where true learning opportunities occur. You learn about how you respond, your attitude towards obstacles, your ability to overcome and move on. Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and regroup #teachPOS
A1: I teach my students that it is okay to fumble by teaching them about cultivating a growth mindset. I tell them that I make mistakes too and that no one is perfect, but that does not mean that we stop trying. #teachpos
A1: we are always learning! Whether we are adults, teens or kids, fumbling is part of the game of life. Teaching is no different. Jumping in high after a @dallascowboys win today! #teachpos
A2: We have #TeamTalk & have team building activities that encourage players of the imp. of making everyone feel like part of team. Last wk, we wrote encouraging sticky notes which turned into our #NiceNote wall. Kids can leave/take a note when they need some uplifting! #TeachPos
Point out mistakes I have made...Point out misconceptions...highlight on the board in the class the lessons that the class learned/adventures we undertook as a result of someones mistake #TeachPos
A2: This is developed through a shared culture. Students need to see the importance of US. They need to see value in learning from each other. Then, teamwork becomes authentic. #teachpos
A1: Who hasn't fumbled before? We all have. Don't we learn what to do and what not to do after a fumble. Even the most seasoned players(students) fumble, doesn't take anything away from them. #teachpos
A1: You model and promote risk taking by acknowledging it when you see it and gently reminding your Ss that it's the only way to grow, and mistakes such as fumbles are just part of the game. #teachpos
A2: Give opportunities for players to share their voice regularly! Constantly asking for feedback from all players, then acting on that feedback! #teachpos
A2 at the beginning of the year we chart our different learning styles and what we feel our strongest subjects are then we use that to discuss how we can all help each other, sometimes we take the lead others we ask for help #TeachPos
A1: Be real and admit when you make a mistake, rather than putting on a show of perfection. When your players see you fumble too, and it’s ok, they will be less afraid of fumbling too. #TeachPos
A2: I have a few students who make comments to others that are not positive, and I find myself pausing my academic lesson to teach a life lesson. My students are young, and I want them to understand the power of their words. I taught my students the toothpaste analogy. #teachpos
A2 - Mantra for class. “It’s your team/class” make sure you inspire your teammates when they walk on the field (class) to the sidelines (desks) and when the enter the game (answer questions or work together) #TeachPos
By building a strong community of team players. Modeling empathy towards every student and encouraging others to do the same. Allowing for mistakes and not assigning blame, rather communicating thoughtfully to solve any problem that comes your collective way.
#TeachPos
#teachpos - A2 - It all starts by creating an inclusive environment where Ss feel like a part of a team in the first place. Be intentional on modeling collaboration and communication techniques. Give them opportunities to work together and perform as a team.
A2: as a staff we read Mindsets for Learning this summer. We are really working through the 6 stances to support everyone's SEL. Through this we are hearing and seeing our Ss support one another more. #teachpos
A2: modeling collaboration. Showing Ss that the collective knowledge and skill set is greater than the individual's. I collaborate with specialists like tech Ts, library media specialists and staff developers etc so they see "teamwork". #teachpos
A2~ we focus on using words, actions that focus on ...
~ Praise
~Support
~Encouragement
It works as we hold each other Ss&Ts accountable for the language we use w/each other & the actions we engage in ❤️The littles love the empowerment & thrive with such 😊
#teachpos
A2 Our classrooms have to be a safe and even playing field for each person who walks in! Starting day one we work on team building exercises. Students are expected to be supports to one another on our learning journey! #teachpos
Checking out #TeachPos from #Iqaluit tonight. loving the #Football theme tonight and all of the great chats but I will be checking out at 8!! #GORavens
A2: This is developed through a shared culture. Students need to see the importance of US. They need to see value in learning from each other. Then, teamwork becomes authentic. #teachpos
A2: You create the culture of your team as coach. We create opportunities for our team to struggle and overcome and work together towards getting better! Lots of acknowledgement, team building exercises, and cooperative learning strategies help do this. #teachpos
A2: Teamwork is the key. Include all stakeholders and value their input. Like the greatest basketball player once said, no offense Lebron, but MJ said this. “Individuals win games but teamwork wins championships.” #teachpos
A2 Helping my players realize everyone is part of the team begins with me as the coach.I model by putting no one on a pedestal, by giving specific and objective praise, and by building a "this is OUR team" community where everyone has a voice and where everyone matters #teachpos
A2 I have 2students who speak no English this year, 1of whom none of us knows their language and watching them help that child and get excited when the student tries to speak English has been incredible, lots of visuals& patience but they have been great little teachers #TeachPos
A1: By not always focusing on due dates and whether an assignment is graded. Often a first question asked will be "is this graded" I don't want the focus to be on the grade but on the process and the growth from the beginning to completion. #TeachPos
A2 We talk about how very little in the world today can be done alone. Your success is often interconnected with many others.
My quote for this year to reinforce that. "A rising tide lifts all boats" Success for one is success for all.
#TeachPos
#TeachPos A2 So important! I try to ensure everyone is given a voice & a chance to elaborate or explain. Waiting your turn to speak is a great skill to learn and an important way to show #respect.
A2. Do team building activities so Ss get to know each other, and learn to work together in collaboration and sharing of ideas! Continue team talks, encouraging group to work together, solving problems for a common goal! #teachpos
Thanks for being here, Tara! Yes!!! When we let kids know we are human too, they can relate and they trust us more. Whenever I admit to a mistake or say I am sorry--the kids' jaws drop. #TeachPos
A2. Do team building activities so Ss get to know each other, and learn to work together in collaboration and sharing of ideas! Continue team talks, encouraging group to work together, solving problems for a common goal! #teachpos
A1: It's about the environment we create & what we model. We have to give Ss opportunities to try new things, take risks, get a little messy, & learn from it all. That can't happen in a vacuum of control, but it can flourish in an environment filled w/ trust & agency. #TeachPos
There is always time to have a quick pep talk to the team! A few minutes to remind the players that we all need each other to achieve is worth so much more than the minutes you could be spending on content! #teachpos
A2: we are better when we have diversity! I used to have my Ss change groups every so often. They chose and they had to include males and females and different ethnicities. #teachpos
A2: We always stress to our Ss to look out for each other. We refer to our Drama team as "The Family". We make a big deal out of our 8th Graders and their role as the leaders. They carry the banner for our team by serving the younger students and serving the community. #teachpos
A2- It is important to build up your weaker players, put them in a spot to add value, just as important is not taking your star players for granted. As a "coach of the team you must bring everyone together. #teachpos
A3: My "touchdown" play so far this season is definitely when a student told me: "I can't read." I put a book in front of him. He read AND comprehended it. I, of course, tweeted about it & then author @shanakkeller saw my tweet & personally sent him an autographed book! #TeachPos
A2: What WE do speaks volumes. Do we treat Ss w/ respect? Do we listen when they are speaking? Do we honor their opinions, even if they differ from our own? If we want Ss to treat each other this way, we need to do the same. #TeachPoshttps://t.co/7Bv59Wtn8z
A3: Connecting with almost 100% of all of the 7th and 8th graders in the building. (I don't see many 6th through the day). Showing as many students that they are valued as possible, daily. #teachpos
A3: Allowing Ss to create their own reading goals with no rewards or consequences has been a HUGE win so far! (ie, it's not a grade, no reward trip, etc) I'm eager to see how Ss are doing as we check on progress this week. #Teachpos
A3: Introducing sketchnoting to struggling readers & having several tell me that drawing helps them think about what the story was about. They were so proud of their sketchnotes & to share with peers #teachPOS
A3: Less of a play and more of a strategy. Lots of authentic honest talk with Ss to remind them to take ownership of their learning. The coach can't play for you, and the teacher can't make you put in the work. Ownership is so important for those reasons and more. #teachpos
A3: As a new teacher, I have fumbled this year, but I would have to say that my touchdown play would have been when I got an email from a parent saying that their child is getting up in the morning excited for school. The parent said I was most likely the reason. #teachpos
A3: While I was really worried about working the 4th and 5th grade to reteach phonics whole class it has been our touchdown. The 5th graders are loving our time together and really learning the new skills and thinking. #teachpos
#teachpos - A3 - Getting to work with so many great new educators as part of my new role as an Instructional Coach - that is my touchdown play this year.
A3- Covering one of our schools so the build admins could attend a training. Helped me connect with kids, staff, and remember what it is like to run a building, it is intense, difficult, exhausting, and one of the most rewarding things you can do! #teachpos
A3 - My favorite activity is our “Touchdown Easel!” Everyday we do a positive word, Phase or question that promotes team. So far they are: grateful, dedicated, authentic, affirmation, team, friend, confident and inspire. #TeachPos
A3: We hit the ground running with skills and standards this year. In an engaging way, I am about two-months ahead of myself and my students are growing like wild fire. #teachpos
A3 It’s been a good game so far (this year). My players know what I expect of them, it is my job now to start giving them more freedom to make it to the end zone! The preseason was spent modeling how we are going to show mastery of our goals! #expectexcellence#teachpos
A2: I love to share stories from teacher to teacher about the relationships they build and how they’ve become the deciding factor wether or not students will learn from them. Taking “slogans” and “buzz words” showing how real it HAS to be! For ALL! #TeachPos
A3: My touchdown so far this school year was when 3 of my students signed up for our after school program TOUCHDOWN with a 2 point conversion! #TeachPos
A2 lots of team-building activities and micromeetings once a week where we just sit and talk about a topic chosen by a peer. And food!!! Lots of potlucks and cultural sharings. #TeachPos
A3: My touchdown play is recognizing my Ss daily through @Seesaw. My Ss share their learning and it's a great platform. My favorite thing to do is create personalized @Bitmoji to share in their portfolio. #teachpos
A3: Less of a play and more of a strategy. Lots of authentic honest talk with Ss to remind them to take ownership of their learning. The coach can't play for you, and the teacher can't make you put in the work. Ownership is so important for those reasons and more. #teachpos
A3: My touchdown thus far has been helping Ss fall in love with reading...witnessing Ss scowl and groan on the first day of school about independent reading to now beg for more time! #teachpos
A3: My touchdown so far this school year was when 3 of my students signed up for our after school program TOUCHDOWN with a 2 point conversion! #TeachPos
Starting interactive bulletin boards available to every student at my school.
My focus is on strengthening our community and encouraging student voice and engagement.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I couldn't be happier!😃
TOUCHDOWN!🏈🏈
#teachpos
I talked with one of my Ss about doing more sketchnoting while reading. I let her do it last year and she really flourished. When reading a book so far this yr she didn't and I noticed a difference. She is going back to scetchnoting while reading. #teachpos
A3 I feel like I got off to a great start this year. We spent 2 weeks on growth mindset and being a successful learner. In their Flipgrid videos a lot of Ss said how much they enjoyed learning about themselves. #teachpos
So happy you are here! You are proof that rookies are just as powerful and inspirational as the veterans on the team. If you do not follow @MsJachymiak -- DO IT NOW! #TeachPos
A2: Model, direct teach, and highlight acts of kindness and inclusiveness, even with those players that fumble often. You can send a powerful message to the team by including that chronic fumbler in everything the team does. #TeachPos
A3: I don't think there's been 1 touchdown play—but several plays that have created an environment of kindness, compassion, collaboration, inquiry, & growth. Much of it has come from shared reading of picture books & considering how the books have made us better humans. #teachpos
A3 Touchdown so far is a class colaboration to "author" a textbook chapter on how our subject relates to life in the North of Canada. Ss feel such pride and a sense of obligation to get the message right #TeachPos
Extra Point! (Bonus): Who is one teammate that we should follow because they are a positive role model and make others feel like they won the Super Bowl? #TeachPos
A2: we talk quite a bit about our team being a family -how we expect respect at all times in the family. We focus on celebrating individual strengths brought 2 the team. We have team meetings & team reward days w/team t-shirts we will make together. #TeachPos We are a team of 2!
A3: My other touchdown play is "If you really knew me..." A great family check in for whole group and small group. It builds great depth of character for us!! #teachpos
A2: We read books about inclusion, we teach by example, and build relationships and community. If I need to, I’ll have a one on one conversation with a S about kindness including others. #teachpos
A3 my touchdown moment is when my ELL student who knows no English walked around during writing and pointed at everyone’s journals and said “that’s good” just like I do ❤️❤️ #TeachPos
A3: We focused on building relationships and communication first before pushing curriculum. The quality of work has been better because the students are more attentive to what their partner is saying/not saying and being able to problem solve. #teachpos
This is only week 2 of sketchnoting and my kids are so excited about it- really looking forward to how this impacts their ability to share understanding of what they’ve read #teachPOS
Extra Point! (Bonus): My teammate/partner @StephenHurst14 is a positive role model & makes everyone feel like we've won the Super Bowl. He...
-Says good morning
-Brings our team breakfast
-Laughs a lot
-Smiles & dances w/me!
-Finds positive in everything
-Loves all kids
#TeachPos

Extra Point! (Bonus): Who is one teammate that we should follow because they are a positive role model and make others feel like they won the Super Bowl? #TeachPos
A3: I now teach in a private school where my colleagues and I have seen several Ss succeed. Whether it has been eye contact, more engagement, greater understanding, they are huge successes for our unique learners. Their smiles prove it! #teachpos
A3: My TD has been using @Flipgrid every week so Ss rable to discuss topics outside of the unit in class but has relevance to current events. Our science Ss have discussed the autumnal equinox, hurricane florence & we don't feel pressure of lost time. Hw is relevant. #teachpos
Extra Point @GaryArmida a true advocate for kids and teachers! His latest article is an example of how he approaches being an educator and leader. https://t.co/4s0TtMgHQl#teachpos
A3. Sitting in library and having Ss share their books, and why they are interested in reading these materials! The excitement and curiosity to dive in! #teachpos
A3: starting in August with an @Flipgrid video introducing our team of teachers to the Ss before the first day. Then spending the first week with tons of different class and team building activities. #TeachPos
Extra Point! (Bonus): Who is one teammate that we should follow because they are a positive role model and make others feel like they won the Super Bowl? #TeachPos
Want to thank the amazing @MrsHankinsClass for an Super Bowl Chat!! Make sure you join @khoggardGRT as she rings in the FALL season with her positive attitude and kind words. #TeachPos
BQ: @MrPStrunk. I just love that guy. He is just a text away. When I am having a rough day, I know I can reach out to him and get myself refocused. I am truly blessed by his friendship. He has had a significant impact on my life, perhaps more than he will ever know. #teachpos
