#ECOOchat is a regular Twitter conversation for computer-using educators that takes place on announced Tuesday evenings at 8:00 pm EST. #ECOOchat is moderated by members of ECOO (Educational Computing Organization of Ontario) in support of facilitating and extending the positive use of education technology by educators and learners alike.
A1: I think @JenApgar suggests a good response - "do", not just think. #onewordOnt is a catalyst for reflection throughout the year, & an opportunity to learn with other educators you may not have met before.#ECOOchat
A1 on the real date for #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat (this was my answer when I thought the chat was Jan8) At 1st I scoffed at this idea; thought it was too trendy. Now? It's part of my new year planning. I like how wide it can be but also narrow
I absolutely loved your #onewordOnt Kristy! Commented on your post. Have you had a lot of responses? Does your staff know your word? (That sub-Q goes for others on this #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat too - who knows your word?)
A1: Zelia joining in from Toronto. A chance to just stop for a moment and reflect on personal vision based on lessons learned from the previous year or new adventures for the new year. My #OneWord is breathe. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A1: More about my professional reflective practice. My word always has something to do with how I can better relate to others. How can I be a better person/mother/wife/teacher? And the word emerges from whatever the pressure is at the moment. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A1: Honestly, the reason I actually took it up this year, is because of how much it seems to have positively impacted those who have dug into it #ECOOchat#onewordOnt#Bandwagon
I wonder what would happen if I shared my #oneword even further than I did? My own children did it as did some fab ECEs @ my school. Could replace the sometimes hard task of "New Year Resolution" for kids #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
I seem to have over complicated mine & it is convergent and divergent all at once which can be nauseating to others, but suits me just fine :) #ECOOchat#OneWordOnt
Very true Tina. A funny EdBlogger @TheWeirdTeacher made a witty comment that we pick #oneword as our focus and then use 500 words to explain it (so short and long!) #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A2: Complete for my own work:
https://t.co/o7rXvx9j7c
but this week we are thinking about ways to use it in our collaborative work. Loving the examples shared under #onewordont this week.
#ECOOchat
A2 for #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat (I copied and pasted those hashtags so I wouldn't forget to use them) - yes, I have my #oneword2018 and it's "seek". I blogged about it (but if I paste the URL, I lose my hashtags; see G+ community for link)
#OneWordOnt#ECOOchat Q2 I have not chosen my word yet. If I push myself too fast, it is not authentic (there’s a word I like) to me and who I am and where I am
A2 SO awesome to see all the educator blogs being shared here tonight.
Keep taking time to comment on blogs and encourage reflection and writing - it's how we all learn more.
#onewordOnt#oneword2018#nled#ECOOchat
A2: Done. I like to reflect on my previous year’s word to help me think about this year’s word. Like uncovering student learning needs, feedback helps. https://t.co/NnKRnW8YI2#OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
Jen, please put the link on that G+ community - I *definitely* want to read more about your #oneword2018#OneWordOnt#ECOOchat (Thinking out of the box, my friend!)
I had seen other educators not only choose #oneword but explore it deeply. It intrigued me. After a tough year and a very purposeful change, I felt i could benefit from exploring my own. #ECOOchat#onewordOnt
A3: Like many have said tonight I was surprised, am always surprised about the experience of choosing 1 word. How much thinking it takes. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
Late to #ECOOchat. My name is Janelle Hinds, I am the Program Coordinator at Helping Hands a youth led initiative to increase youth civic engagement through education
Thanks for sharing that trajectory Zelia. I think lots of peeps want to know what exactly motivates & inspires us to choose our words. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A3 I think I was surprised by how much my religion/faith played into my past two words. It was meant for school focus but went to all-aspects-of-life focus #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat

#OneWordOnt#ECOOchat A3 Choosing one word is hard, but looking back over ... the list of words becomes like a road map of ones life. For me I find the words come at key milestone points.
This year has been interesting with #oneword2018 . I’ve seen a backlash from some -odd, since why would someone else care if I, or anyone else chooses one word? #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A3: First I thought of buzz words I love & use, then I thought about why I use them, & what I love about them, then I cursed words that can't be more than one verb b/c my thoughts are layered & connected then I saw a visual in my mind from The Last Jedi #ECOOchat#OneWordOnt
My thinking process is always to let ideas roll around in my head and only look at them obliquely. That was my process for choosing “explore”. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A3: The process has been different in all 4 years, but this year it was about what I was never finding the time to do, yet valued, and expected others to do.
If I want to lead, I need to be the change we want to see. My word is more of a reminder than a mantra.
#onewordOnt
A3: I thought what was holding me back. Sometimes I let me fear of not being an expert keep me back. I would say no to speaking opportunities in 2017 and scared to make the civic ed curriculum for our workshops. #ECOOchat#onewordont
Me too. Hard to compartmentalize myself RT @MzMollyTL: @jacbalen@ecooweb A3 I think I was surprised by how much my religion/faith played into my past two words. It was meant for school focus but went to all-aspects-of-life focus #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
It's like free writing. You get started, you might have an idea in mind, but you end up in a place that surprises you...in the best of ways. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat

Can't speak for others but I when I was participating/rebelling in the #oneword in 2016, it was b/c I thought ppl picked words they thought would make them look good, then do zip about it. (Like criticism I've seen for celebs taking part in metoo or timesup) #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A4: Don't worry about breaking the binary. If the idea of 'one' word doesn't work for you #yet or #ever it doesn't mean the process of struggling with the tension of refinement & focus in the #intention of one isn't valid, useful to you & possibly others #ECOOchat#onewordOnt
...and that is part of our process/wondering. Reflective, respectful provocative questions can help with this. As can explicit explanation of intention behind a movement... unless they are trolls for trolls sake #ECOOchat#onewordOnt
But I'm really interested in why other people might mock it. My other guesses: ppl feel pressured/obligated? It's navel gazing? Jumping on a bandwagon? Ideas? #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A4. Don’t force it. Your #oneword will come. I found that I was thinking too hard about it. It finally came to me in a tweet—simple. #ECOOchat#onewordOnt
A4: Your #OneWord is for you! Reflect, celebrate and growth from and with it. Your experience with a particular word will differing from someone else's. This is about you, your sharing & building community as we learn more about our life experiences #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
#ECOOchat#OneWordOnt A4 Stay open. You never know when you hear your word for the first time. You might come to it as you think, reflect etc. Or you may hear it come from someone else.

I went from
2016 = continue (b/c I "already had stuff I was doing")
2017 = forgive (b/c I heard a good talk & my hard head/heart needed softening)
2018 = seek (b/c change isn't easy)

A6 I blog constantly! Here's the link to mine for 2018 https://t.co/ArcXjkXlD5 Advice - don't be too hard on yourself (for sticking to your word or blogging regularly) but try your best (set check-in dates or regular writing times) #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat

Not selfish at all - I blog for myself, to help formula my thoughts about what happens in school/life. Having readers/commenters are a wonderful bonus - icing on the cake. Thanks @jacbalen for the icing via G+ #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
BTW, while we are all here, please note on your calendars that our annual conference this year will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Nov 6-8, 2018.

A7: Yes! And I intend on continuing to read. Goal is to read and comment on all. But I am not pressuring myself. I’ll read as I can. So much inspiration! https://t.co/LiqPZEdfKV#OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A7 I think this has been the super-sweet part for me this year - the G+ community makes it so easy to find new blogs to read. I find I've been reading/commenting at least 30 min/day on other people's posts. Too many to name! #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
A6: I don't love writing blogs. I don't make time for it and I don't really read that many either. I prefer the immediate back & forth of chats or F2F. My introvert, fast talking self is really impatient with my typing. But this inspired me to try again #ECOOchat#onewordOnt

Also toying with determination. I am determined to reach students through Helping Hands. 2018 is off to a great start. Reached over 100 students over the break helping them apply to @MSAC_ON#ECOOchat#onewordont
A7: I have read several and have more to read after tonight. So appreciative of the sharing and insight of ourselves & those around us. Would like to go back & reread, in order to leave comments that honour the post #onewordont#ecoochat
Last question.....
Q8: There has been some talk about creating #OneWordOnt check-in points during the year. What are your thoughts? Suggestions about how to do this? #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat@ecooweb
Julie, I'm glad to hear that you have a goal but it's a flexible one. Forced reading isn't joyful reading. No one should feel obligated but there's some rich, deep stuff there #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
I love this suggestion. Speaks to my public speaking fear and fear of failure. Being open/ okay with vulnerability may allow me to break out of my shell #ECOOchat#onewordont
My pleasure. So many lessons to be learned here about patience, collaboration, risk-taking, and a willingness to say "yes". I am the better for this. #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
That reminds me of the wonderful time we had talking until the wee hours of the morning one year at BIT - you have so much good stuff to offer that I'm glad it can be archived/saved somehow (eg via a blog) #OneWordOnt#ECOOchat
