I loved my middle school years! I had some awesome young teachers who cared a lot about us! My art teacher was phenomenal and encouraged me creatively ! โค๏ธ#stucentclass
#stucentclass A1-Great meet and greet activities like a bulletin board of 'calling cards' and mingling activities where they can get up and move around and meet one another.
A1: I always think being thrown into a group activity that is fun and a bit out of your comfort zone bonds a class, especially if T joins in.#stucentclass
A1: We spent a lot of time building relationships through teambuilding and icebreakers. Collaborative activities that require Ss to rely on each other. Model respect. ๐#stucentclass
#stucentclass A2-A quiet cozy, comfy corner where students can retreat to. But, also keep the noise volume at a relatively calm level to help students be productive and not distracting.
A1: I made it! We started day 1 with Ss creating @GetKahoot about themselves to play periodically. Do lots of group/collab activities too. #stucentclass
A2: I opt for open seating so Ss can pick where theyโre the most comfortable! Iโm always energetic so I think my Ss know to expect a mix but more energy in our class! Lol. #stucentclass
A3: lately I๏ธ have been focused on DOK questions in class. I๏ธ start small and work up to a harder level, to challenge their thinking strategies and process. #stucentclass
A2: I tried to have elements of fun and energy during lessons to engage Ss. But when it was time to focus quietly and work most Ss worked best in a calm env. ๐#stucentclass
#stucentclass A4-I offer choice but I also give suggestions on how new ways of doing things so students always do the same thing. Variety is good and getting them to step out of their comfort zone is important.
Oh, I๏ธ forgot to introduce! I๏ธ wastage so I had to jump in!
Sharon Norden-Derby Hills, KS I๏ธ was very fortunate to have excellent teachers on my educational journey. #stucentclass
A3: Provide thinking time when asking questions, call on everyone for something daily, & ask open ended questions. We explore idea of subjective/objective & no right or wrong type answers. #stucentclass
I guess someone has already answered. Correct me if I'm wrong, @ChouinardJahant but the aim is to promote mindful teaching and student voice, right? #stucentclaas
A4: Mini-lessons on other ideas to write about, strategies, techniques to try, but still allowing the choice. I also try to model myself trying new things out. #stucentclass
A4: I๏ธ try to show several ways to attack a problem and then ask them to show me 2 ways they solve. That way, they have a choice, but they have to expand their comfort zone. #stucentclass
#stucentclass A5-I am upfront and honest always. I never pretend to be their friend but their teacher. There is a line in place but also a free-spirit of attitude and personality.
A4 : I teach them new toolset strategies as a whole class for one or two activities, then Ss have choice of tool/product in future activities. #stucentclass
A4: By encouraging them to try new things! Model new techniques and strategies for Ss. Talk about the process of trial and error! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป #stucentclass
A5: Howard Glasser is a great inspiration for this. He said to always give positive reinforcement, but also set limits & follow through so kids know, โI๏ธ set limits because I๏ธ love you.โ #stucentclass
#stucentclass. A1: Choreograph short-term, casual, sometimes random opportunities for human interaction: short-term grouping (eg think-pair-share), those interested come together around a puzzle at the side or a brain teaser on the board, T 'shoots the breeze' w/ small grp, etc.

#stucentclass A6-Patience, eye contact, calm words, and a relaxed frame of mind. They are 12 and misbehave due to reasons we may not understand at first. Get to know them that is key.
A5: Build relationships prior to having Ss in class. Make sure they know I care. Discipline is about behavior not kid. Every day is a new day. Find a positive despite negatives. #stucentclass
A6: Ts have to address what is wrong & calm an S down BEFORE they can act on consequences & discipline: always follow through, but calm first #stucentclass
A6 #stucentclass I speak to Ss individually and when they need a reminder we talk again. Sometimes they need that attention redirected--but they still need something so we work 2gether.
