Hello #INeLearn! š
My name is Sean from Paoli. I am a former classroom educator & a current Innovative Learning Specialist w/ @Five_StarTech serving the Ts and Ss of NLCS.
I have been an avid #HyperDoc maker & user for the last 3-4 years. Love sharing the awesomeness of HDs!
Nadine Gilkison, District Tech Integration for FT and Innovation Specialist for @inelearn. Love to create hyperdocs and model use of them in classrooms throughout our district. #inelearn :)
Hello! Lisa Highfill here from CA in the SF Bay Area. 5th gr teacher--->now Tech Integration Specialist. Co-Author/creator of the HyperDoc Handbook Excited to get to chat with you all tonight. #INeLearn
I am a science teacher and instructional technology coordinator at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL. I am passionate about learner-centered engagement and Iāve been known to dabble a bit with #HyperDocs#INelearn
Hi. Kevin from Indianapolis @LCHSBears. HS bio and physics teacher. Met some fantastic educators today at @hecc_conference. Hope they join us tonight. #INeLearn
A1: A HyperDoc is a digital lesson that you create and give to your students. They are created with purposeful lesson design- the Explore/Explain/Apply cycle of learning which makes them more than a doc w/links #INeLearn
R1: A Hyperdoc is a lesson designed with technology layered within that provides students a means of voice and choice throughout the process, capping it off with student creation in the end. If those elements are not present, it is not a hyperdoc. #inelearn
R1 #INeLearn
A #HyperDoc is a blended lesson created by Ts specifically for their Ss using the best of digital and non-digital tools. They are typically packaged in some sort of #GSuite app. They all for more student creations, collaboration, exploration, etc.
Sean Winningham, in-line instructional designer for IU. Just lurking tonight since the topic is about #hyperdocs. Heard about them but never really seen them in action. #INeLearn
A1: A HyperDoc is not a worksheet or just a set of links. For me, the best #HyperDocs provide a path for students to engage in and explore content while building skills connected to the 4 Cs. #INeLearn
A1 A #hyperdoc is a lesson connected to standards that takes kids deeper with each tasks, giving them voice and choice to demonstrate learning through tech along the way. If kids are just clicking with no deepeningnof understanding or link to standards....not it. #INeLearn
Would love to hear more about what you do...just the name instructional designer...that is at the heart of HyperDocs, designing quality lessons. #INeLearn
A1: A HyperDoc is not a Webquest- when designed with UDL principles being the focus, it can solve many learning challenges your students face. It is not a program, or digital worksheets- it helps tech bring solutions to learning #INeLearn
R1: A Hyperdoc is a doc/slide/gsuite document that allows Ts to blend learning. It helps to guide student learning and allows them to showcase what they know. A Hyperdoc is not just a document with links. #INeLearn
Hey Sean (great name btw and glad your parents spelled it correctly) thanks for joining in.
I know you'll get a lot out of of tonights chat #INeLearn. #HyperDocs help teachers go from assigners to lesson designers! @lhighfill@kellyihilton@SARAHLANDIS
In reply to
@swinning_id, @lhighfill, @kellyihilton, @SARAHLANDIS
A1) For me, a #hyperdoc is a packaged lesson or unit with engagement, content, and creation impeded into the doc or slide. Generally with links, videos, creation tools and place for sharing. #INeLearn
They could, but part of it is the packaging in one place, with a logical easy to follow flow. Building in Avid principles for all students...from workflow, to links, to instructions... #INeLearn
Yes! While the birth of #hyperdocs was from #GSuiteEdu they don't have to live there. Canvas or other LMS programs could work too. HDs or more about digital lesson design than they are what they are packaged in #INeLearn
While #HyperDocs were orginally created with GSuite, I believe that you can use any resources/tool to create and share. The key for me is student centered engagement, not the tool used to facilitate the learning. #INeLearn
R2: I incorporate Hyperdocs into my model lessons when I'm out in our buildings. I want Ts to see how to effectively teach with a hyperdoc. It isn't just assign it and you're done. Model, model, model what you want kids to do. I Do, We Do, You Do... #inelearn
Here is one of my latest HyperDocs- The Good Idea Project https://t.co/I5BrFhO2mK It includes a video walkthrough explaining how I teach with it! #INeLearn
A2 I use #HyperDocs to design lessons that my students can work on at their own pace. It allows me to give them the opportunity to collaborate and share their learning with one another. #inelearn
A2: #HyperDocs can be used at any point during a class period or a unit. They can be small focused on a single concept or big connecting multiple concepts. HyperDocs serve as frameworks for learner-centered engagement in my classroom. #INeLearn
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I have used #hyperdocs in the past, but just called them pages in whatever #LMS Iāve used over the past 16 years. #INeLearn
R2 #INeLearn
The most amazing part of #hyperdocs are they can be incorporated in almost any way!
Rotations, 1 day class period lesson, weekly/monthly unit, etc
Just build it for the specific reason you need it.
A2: I create HyperDocs for organizing PBL, Genius Hour, Universal Access time, and also for short quick lessons. Here is one created by @kellyihilton (UDL designed) in order to meet all students' needs. Do you see the pedagogy? https://t.co/l9eUCuImme#INeLearn
A2 I use #HyperDocs to design lessons that my students can work on at their own pace. It allows me to give them the opportunity to collaborate and share their learning with one another. #inelearn
Hey, magical friend! Big hugs!!! Have you been using hyperdocs? They are an integral part of my class. I love the lesson design element. Hyperdocs ignited a passion in me that had been stagnant for a couple of years. #INeLearn
R2: 1st I have to introduce the many tools we use within a Hyperdoc to my Kinders as everything is brand new. We use short Hyperdocs in the beg. and gradually build up to more complex ones that offer more voice and choice options. #INeLearn
While the birth of #hyperdocs was from #GSuiteEdu they don't have to live there. Canvas or other LMS programs could work too. HDs or more about digital lesson design than they are what they are packaged in #INeLearn
A2: HyperDocs are definitely a blended lesson delivery for me. There are instructional pieces that are delivered whole group or in stations. And pieces that Ss can work at their own pace or even move in different directions. Feedback, collaboration embedded #IneLearn
Hopefully, a HyperDoc is designed with more than just a list of task requirements listed or linked...a great HD includes 4 C's Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking This what makes them different from digital assignments...they are powerful lessons #INelearn
Yes, Ss often struggle a bit with true collaboration. I do my best to emphasize tips to collaborate effectively every chance I get. I highly discourage the use of their default collaboration style aka "Divide and Conquer" #INeLearn
R2: again, really never called them #hyperdocs, but they have content in different medium (text, imbedded YouTube, links), maybe a quiz, and then something to create and upload. I do this a lot, both when I am at school and on the limited days I am absent. #INeLearn
A2: Hyperdocs are all fine and dandy but if it's overwhelming to the students or complicates the learning process- tone it down.
Make Hyperdocs simple - Be clear on directions. #INeLearn
#HyperDocs are just great relevant lessons influence by tech created and packaged in a student friendly form. I wouldn't doubt that you've been applying these practices during your teaching. #INeLearn
Yes! I talk to a lot of teachers about how we can teach our Ss to learn through exploration...this is not something that they are doing right away...they are waiting to be told what to do. #INeLearn
A2) I've remixed most of my adopted ELA units into hyperdocs. I use the same standards and reading, but with incorporate more S engagement, creations, sharing, and reflection. #INeLearn Here's a quick sample https://t.co/WVE94RtbZ8
A2 I've used hyperdocs as teasers at the beginning the unit and I have also used them toward the end to provide specific examples. We did one recently on grolar bears and what it means to be a species. It was a fun thing for them while I was gone at a conference. #INelearn
This blog post/ podcast w/ @cultofpedagogy and the #HyperDocs girls is a great one that helps explain what HDs are and how to get started creating them. Thanks for sharing @eppand#INeLearn
A3: I believe our template covers the lesson design that is important to incorporate into classroom lessons. Allowing Ss to explore before explaining concepts is an important shift in creating sticky learning. Moving from passive to active learning! #INeLearn
R3: I try to make sure I provide plenty of choices when it comes to student creation at the end of a hyperdoc. I also make sure that the layout of the hyperdoc is engaging for students. #inelearn :)
A3: My best #HyperDocs incorporate #StudentVoice & #StudentChoice to engage students in collaboration and creation. Formative assessment is also extremely important for both my students and I as we engage and explore what we know and what we don't know. #INeLearn
They are so versatile. Any teacher or class can make them their own. Lots of room for creativity and versatility. Have you taken the class? That's how I started. You might even recommend it to Ts that seem interested. It's a great journey. #IneLearn
I still think REFLECTION is the most critical part of a lesson! Good ol' Dewey taught me the value of reflection. Always incorporate into my#hyperdoc lessons! #INeLearn
We just did a great PD about looking at our adopted curriculum, integrating tech by creating HyperDocs, AND designing with UDL specifics so all students can access the curriculum...super excited about this process. #INelearn
R3: I definitely make it Kinder-friendly with easy to read text and pictures. Explore, Explain/Apply, and Create are usually the key elements for our #Hyperdocs. #INeLearn
A3: Love the collaboration in HyperDocs. Empowering Ss to add to a collective body of knowledge. Add the authentic audience piece. Archive great ideas. Teach how to engage online #INeLearn
A3: You can find more templates here to help get started with research based cycles of learning that ensure you are including powerful lesson design into your digital lessons- https://t.co/L06mTTgMrA (Delivery of those lessons is a crucial piece as well!) #INeLearn
A3: My three favorites: explore, explain, apply. The most important for me is giving Ss choices! Some love videos, some- reading text, some enjoy paper, some are all tech.
Choice. Voice.
Conference with students who aren't getting it while letting others work ahead. #INeLearn
R3: I definitely make it Kinder-friendly with easy to read text and pictures. Explore, Explain/Apply, and Create are usually the key elements for our #Hyperdocs. #INeLearn
This is such a great idea to deliver PD this way. I think a lot of teachers would try it if they used it as a "student" first. Modeling this is powerful! #INeLearn
R3: I definitely make it Kinder-friendly with easy to read text and pictures. Explore, Explain/Apply, and Create are usually the key elements for our #Hyperdocs. #INeLearn
R4: If modeling you would see all students on a device, going over each slide before beginning to work on their own. Once used to the format, you would see T working with small groups while others are working on their own at their own pace on the hyperdoc. #inelearn
A4: In my classroom, kids learning on tech are up, moving, talking, some on tech, some off...they are active and yes, noisy! I dont use earbuds, I want to hear what they are doing and chatting about. #INeLearn
I like using HyperDocs for teacher PD because it is not just about the design, the tech, the delivery is so important- modeling good instruction using HDs is really the way to learn by experience! #INelearn
Both of you are fantastic!!! I almost cried in Lisa's session last year at #FallCUE. I could see her lesson design and intentionality in everything she did. Soooo inspiring!!! #INeLearn
A3 My FAVES are reflection and share. I live to see the end results of whatever the āthingā is and how the learners feel about their new learning. #INeLearn
I love seeing the teacher working with students! That's when I know a #hyperdoc lesson has liberated the teacher from front of room. #IncreaseFaceTime#INeLearn
A4) The BEST part of our day!!! Flexible seating, lots of S collaboration, Ss giving mini-lessons (usually tech related), and T facilitating and supporting Ss. #IneLearn
YES!!! All the thinking on the teacher's part had been done prior to implementation. T is free to facilitate and support students. The BEST benefit of hhyperdocs. #IneLearn
I love seeing the teacher working with students! That's when I know a #hyperdoc lesson has liberated the teacher from front of room. #IncreaseFaceTime#INeLearn
A4: My best #HyperDocs have students collaborating both digitally and socially. I hope for 2 things if someone walks in. Students actively talking about concepts and students collaborating with each other and me. āThe Smartest Person in the Room is the Roomā #INeLearn
R4 A4 Oh boy that really depends! My students may be watching a video, reading a book, responding on a @Flipgrid or building something. In our intro to engineering hd my kids built watercrafts and tested them in our American Rev HD they quietly made a presentations #INeLearn
I will admit it... I really didn't know what to do w/ myself once Ss got going sometimes in their #hyperdocs. I had more time to work 1 on 1 with students! š
#INeLearn
I love seeing the teacher working with students! That's when I know a #hyperdoc lesson has liberated the teacher from front of room. #IncreaseFaceTime#INeLearn
A5: I am finally free to meet the needs on my teaching manifesto! I can build layered lessons that are culturally responsive, that kids care about, that build curiosity, that create time to wonder and explore. #INeLearn
R5: Students can work at their own pace and want lessons designed to be more interactive with technology, rather than a worksheet. Hyperdocs give students choice of how to show their DOK of any content. #inelearn
A5 I like the thinking behind the HyperDoc, the intentionality that must occur for the learning facilitator. This coupled with great tech tools is always a win.....and the fact that worksheets and lectures bore me as a teacher and a learner #INeLearn
R4: Busy! Everyone is working at their own pace. Some students on devices exploring the topic. Others creating. Others collaborating. Teacher conferencing with students. #INeLearn
R5 A5 I love how it makes ME the designer of the lesson. I know what I'm teaching and I'm guiding the students on the learning journey. I'm not just assigning a lesson from a TE. Plus the kids LOVE them!!!
I happen to love them too š #INeLearn
A5: The students are engaging with the material. Hyperdocs allow for teachers to give the students to apply in a way that is best for the kids. No more cookie cutter worksheets. :-) #INeLearn
I can really relate to so much of what youve shared! When it's quiet, I start asking 'what's wrong' The buzz of learning and thinking is powerful if you are listening! #INelearn
A4: I know students are engaged when they are actively asking questions and not just settling for answers. I love it when students ask and explore quesitons that I hadn't even thought of in advance. https://t.co/pa8XhiUHUf#inelearn
A5: #HyperDocs allow me to work with students in small groups. They also allow for differentiated learning, student voice, and student choice. My best HyperDocs enhance student engagement in a variety of different ways. #INeLearn
Now teaching w/ #hyperdocs the possibilities are endless really. This quote by @lhighfill I always come back to when creating lessons HDs or not. We can do SOOO much more now than teach a lecture/worksheet #INeLearn
I can't stand it when my students are in what I call "Quiet Monkey Typing Mode." If they slip into this mode, I do my best to interupt them with a Give 1 Get 1 or some other standing activity to get them moving and collaboration. #INeLearn
Yes!!! Lesson design is so much fun! And when it's time to implement and have Ss engage, we get to enjoy the experience with them. I've learned so much from you, Karly. Thank you for continually inspiring and support the community. #IneLearn
R5: Hyperdocs are so engaging! Ss beg to keep working on them. I've never seen them beg for a worksheet. It allows freedom. They are learning at their own pace and have voice/choice and it gives me time to conference. #INeLearn
A5: I believe Ive grown as a teacher from creating HyperDocs...from being an assigner to now a designer of learning experiences, Im engaging in greater critical thinking- bringing new energy to the job and the classroom! #INelearn
A5: Benefits of the HyperDoc: the opportunity to build relationships. The opportunity to build the habit of learning. The opportunity for students to explore and create (to name a few!) #INeLearn
I was able to write this guest post one the #ditchbook blog after @jmattmiller was sitting in one of my #hyperdoc sessions during a summer of elearning conference. #inelearn I think this helps provide examples of beyond lecture/worksheet lessons.
https://t.co/WzniFqs76a
A6: Best advice? Buy the book. So many free templates and great advice.
Then reach out to the community. The #Hyperdoc community is so amazing and giving. #INeLearn
R6: My best advice for getting started is look for hyperdocs already created and focus on modeling how to correctly use them. If you are ready to create, use the many templates out there! You don't need to start from scratch. #inelearn
So true. The opportunity is huge for one-on-one time. And, with hyperdocs, students become true scholars. They are engaged for learning not just a grade. #IneLearn
A6: If you are new to #HyperDocs I recommend exploring the Teachers Give Teachers site. Find something you can remix with credit for your students. I love the creation part most, but sometimes it is nice to have someplace to start. https://t.co/wOcK82Xyzc#INeLearn
A6: Start small...one lesson, one day...and see how your students react. Try this one https://t.co/O1Jsa5ZkRF Just go to File>Make A Copy> edit to fit your needs. (add a form and spreadsheet of replies to the words HERE at the end) #INeLearn
R6 #INeLearn
My advice is to think of a lesson that you feel like needs shaken up. Maybe one you are not passion about or Ss have struggled in the past. That could be your #hyperdoc lesson.
R6: Begin by using or modifying one thatās already created. Donāt reinvent the wheel until you canāt find what youāre looking for! Once youāve used them, youāll be more comfortable creating. #INeLearn
Q6: Get started using a Hyperdoc that someone else has created at your grade level & tweak it to fit your classroom. Teachers create and share @TsGiveTs. Then branch out on your own by using one of the many templates Ts share. #INeLearn
We also have a nice group engaged in our Google + HyperDoc Community. Fingers crossed that this will still exist in whatever the educational version of Google + becomes. https://t.co/1qbuiX33dO#INeLearn

R6 A6 Start with a template and find a colleague to collaborate with. I've been so fortunate to have been able to collaborate with amazing #hyperdocs creators like @SEANJFAHEY and @LisaGuardino#INeLearn
A6) I started my journey by taking the #hyperdocs girls online class. The collaboration with the authors and other designers was powerful. 4 weeks of guided instruction, video conferences, creation, and relationship building makes it well worth the time and cost. #IneLearn
Here is a doc full of sample HyperDocs to explore https://t.co/it5VP9tiEI Just find one you like, go to File>Make a Copy and edit to use with your Ss! #INelearn
WU: Biggest takeaway...the LOVE of sharing! Helping teachers and students...we are bigger than our classroom, district. We are all teachers at heart and want to help as many kids learn as we can. #inelearn
I have a variety of #HyperDocs that my students and I have enjoyed. Recently we have been exploring using @PearDeck student-paced slide decks to engage students with video. Here is a sample: https://t.co/62oaJtG4Ze#INeLearn
Thank you to all who joined in tonight. Hope to keep the conversation going here. Just reach out! I love talking lesson design and Hyperdocs! #INeLearn
As much as I love the #DitchBook chat, I think I am out of Twitter engagement for the night. 2 hours of chat is about my limited for now. Enjoy and thanks for the great chat everyone. #INeLearn#MasterChat
