Q1. DOES YOUR SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY HAVE A "LITTLE FREE LIBRARY?"
IF YES, PLEASE SHARE DETAILS OR A PHOTO!
IF, NOT YET, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO TO CREATE ONE? #BookCampPD
A1. I have been collecting photos and, as we traveled across the country, snapping photos of more examples. Thanks to all who are jumping into this initiative! #BookCampPD
Yes! We've had a Little Free Library for over a year now and the students love it. Its a nice way to exchange books with others and make it accessible to any one at any time. #BookCampPD

A1: We have a @LtlFreeLibrary in the front of our school and on the playground, but we put books EVERYWHERE inside the building too #BookCampPD#LeadLIT
A1: We don’t have a traditionalLittle Free Library at school but we have baskets of books all around school that children are free to take a book from and return when they finish. We encourage them to read in their dismissal lines, while waiting for the bathroom, etc. #BookCampPD
A1 75,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in 88 countries worldwide! Learn more athttps://littlefreelibrary.org/ and check where one can be located near you. #BookCampPD
A1. There are several "Little Free Libraries" in the surrounding community. Meanwhile, I spent Thursday evening setting up a library in my new classroom (it took me 3 weeks to source free bookshelves and get some of my books out of storage 😞) #BookCampPD#TLAP#sd40learns#bced
Our community (population of 7,000 people) has about 7 little libraries across town. Inspired by @mandyeellis I have contacted our local “friends of the library” for support to have one placed at our primary and intermediate schools. They said yes!
A1: We don't have a Little Free Library yet. I would love to see some students take it on as their service learning project. I would be happy to sponsor their efforts. #LNCPride#BookCampPD
A1 No .. but WOW .. what a great idea! I think I’ve heard about it .. I’d love to think about putting one in my area ... we do have a good public library in our area (& library network in our community) #BookCampPD

Q2. HAVE THE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS RECENTLY BEEN ASKED WHAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING?
WHAT COULD OCCUR TO GET THESE BOOKS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING AT YOUR SCHOOL? #BookCampPD
Hi, this is Stephanie from Sedalia I’m just jumping in. We are working on adding reading areas throughout the school with books for students to take. Here is one popular spot! #BookCampPD
A2: When you ask what they are reading, consider inviting them in for a 'book bunch' or to eat lunch in the office to talk about what they're reading. Get them to invite friends and make recommendations to each other #BookCampPD#LeadLIT
Anytime I see a student with a book I IMMEDIATELY ask about it and start a conversation…I love hearing all about books from the Ss perspective! We do not have signs showcasing what we are reading, but I have sign in my office that I am trying to make more visible! #BookCampPD
Q2. HAVE THE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS RECENTLY BEEN ASKED WHAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING?
WHAT COULD OCCUR TO GET THESE BOOKS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING AT YOUR SCHOOL? #BookCampPD
A2: More teachers are giving students reading options. The teachers were given several options to choose their own PD this year. Among the options were choices of books with Twitter Slow Chat discussions. It is wonderful to choose your own learning. #BookCampPD
A1-
Our library does :)@dob626 Our LMS has created a great shelf FULL of books that kids can take... and it’s right by the doors. I see kids and teachers finding treasures there! #BookCampPD

A2 I see my Ss coming in with a lot of books, I always ask my 8th graders in my STEAM course what they are reading, definitely enjoy learning about their interests #bookcamppd
I have been thinking about a Reading Apron that an educator would wear during the day. The LARGE pockets would contain books to share with students and other supplies - bookmarks. #BookCampPD

A2: No, we always are asking the kids but the staff haven't been asked what they are interested in reading. I have suggested to my admin that we try the Book Tasting at one of our PD's or staff meetings this year! #BookCampPD
Q2. HAVE THE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS RECENTLY BEEN ASKED WHAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING?
WHAT COULD OCCUR TO GET THESE BOOKS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING AT YOUR SCHOOL? #BookCampPD
A2: I've definitely noticed that sharing my favorite books and current readings motivates students to share their interest and motivates them to read as well.
Every book I've read in in my classroom for Ss to check out!
#Bookcamppd
A2 This week @MrsNicoleHuff my school librarian is coming to my room to give my students a “book tasting” ... I want them to find something interesting #BookCampPD

A2 I use readers in teaching Spanish and have in the past, had students choose what to read, I have a book display of some books that are popular and have been translated into SPanish, so Ss are familiar w/story and can focus on grammar and reviewing #bookcamppd

A2: At dismissal time studentshave the opportunity to share about what they are reading and give book recommendations. I use my Scholastic book order points to get books based on student interest as well as consignment shops! #BookCampPD
A2 We had a book study last year, a few of us at the high school joined and read 17,000 classroom visits can't be wrong, and from this, we shared some other book ideas #bookcamppd
You might want to check out this page on our website - https://t.co/9CFlAawfNY It might help? Or there is another one with books educators have recommended. #BookCampPD

I'm excited for the kids to see it (& I need more shelves!!)- those empty two will be filled w/new beginner-level French books that I bought this weekend (as I'm also teaching French 8) but I still need room for non-fic! #sd40learns#classroomlibrary#BookCampPD#morebooksplease
Q2. HAVE THE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS RECENTLY BEEN ASKED WHAT THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING?
WHAT COULD OCCUR TO GET THESE BOOKS THEY ARE INTERESTED IN READING AT YOUR SCHOOL? #BookCampPD
A1: We do have a small community library and sadly I have not been to it...Yet. I had thought about the idea of using this idea in our building for students and families to use. #BookCampPD
When students come in to get their Bday book, I’m able to have a quick conversation about the kind of books they like and find one to match their interest. #BookCampPD
A3. These are some of the cornerstone books in my professional library. I have a habit of giving away the excellent books to other educators such as "Lead Like a Pirate" by @burgess_shelley and @BethHouf so others can benefit from the message. #BookCampPD
A3. These are terrific books in my professional library. Just reading them increased my knowledge but the true growth occurred when I collaborated with teams of educators and implemented ideas that were key to our school wide goals. #BookCampPD
A3: I really enjoyed Lead with Literacy, Lead with Culture and Lead like a Pirate…On to Balance like a Pirate next! I love reading about great ideas knowing I can try at least one of them TOMORROW! #BookCampPD
me too, and last year, asking a student about the book Ready Player One, was the way I finally made a connection and could build relationships from there #bookcamppd
A3: Top on my list:
✅ Culturize by @casas_jimmy
✅ Lead with Culture @JayBilly2
✅ Lead Like a Pirate @BethHouf
✅ Teach Likeva Pirate @burgessdave
These books have shift my pedagogy in so many awesome ways!!

Our final question for tonight's chat.
If you have questions for @mandyeellis please add 'Q-Mandy' before your tweet. She welcomes your inquiries. #BookCampPD
A3 When Kids Can’t Read by @KyleneBeers & her new ones Notice & Note (currently using Nonfiction for my RDG classes) & the #HackLearning@times10books & @dbc_inc .. these guys know what is needed in our classrooms today #BookCampPD
A3: This summer I was introduced to @dbc_inc books and I managed to read three that I loved! I have ordered three more to keep me going for the next few months. They have inspired me and made me want to be even better. Aside from those, I love anything about literacy! #BookCampPD
A2: Staff in our building are asked to share bookshout outs each week and it is shared with everyone by our principal. Our library Assistant has a book request system for students and staff to request books. #BookCampPD
A4: Someone on Twitter awhile back said that she puts out a sign that tells what she is reading. I am going to do that, and also be better about posting what I am reading on Twitter. #BookCampPD
A2: yes! Staff in weekly newsletter & Ss are now in the habit of keeping a book in backpack at all times so they can read at less structured times such as his lines at dismissal. They also share over mic what they’re reading to staff & peers! #bookcamppd
A4: I love the idea of keeping a sign on my office door, but I really enjoy sharing my progress on all books I am reading on GoodReads. It has been a GAME CHANGER in regards to monitoring my reading and expanding my wish list. #BookCampPD
A3: Mine is a continually rotating and growing collection. The one that comes to mind is Learn like a Pirate by @PaulSolarz I love learning from others! #BookCampPD
A3: The Genius Hour Handbook, Disrupting Thinking, Comprehension & Fluency (F&P), The Conferring Handbook, The Curious Classroom & so, so many more. #bookcamppd
A3: @Kari_Yates Simple Starts is a book that’s super important to me - it’s helped me know how to train my Ss to read independently in a way that’s truly enjoyable for them and also results in genuine learning!! #bookcampPD
A4. I created this template for educators to quickly save and print off to post outside their classroom door. Others have taken it to the next level and added the 'last' and 'next' book they have/will read. #BookCampPD
#BookCampPD A4. I started a quick blog for my class this year that mostly shares video links that we've watched in class plus a homework page - but I'd like to expand my "English" page to include book reviews by both me and my students. #sd40learns#tlap#bcedchat#teachinggoals
I love this! Some teachers in my building post all the books they read throughout the year outside their door. Sorry so late to chat. I am Lisa from Minnesota. #bookcampPD
A4. Isn't this a marvelous idea to showcase and communicate the read-a-loud book that is shared each day? Educators could create something similar with the professional book they have read each month. #BookCampPD
A4: I love reading aloud to my class and sending pictures of studentsreading to their families on my Remind app. I share my professional reading with my Twitter PLN by participating in chats and sharing book snaps! #BookCampPD
.A1: My genius hour group is inspired by my desire to give our kids access to books at all times. Has anyone built a little library before? #BookCampPD
Q1. DOES YOUR SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY HAVE A "LITTLE FREE LIBRARY?"

A4: I love reading aloud to my class and sending pictures of studentsreading to their families on my Remind app. I share my professional reading with my Twitter PLN by participating in chats and sharing book snaps! #BookCampPD
A4: One thing I tried this summer was to email my stuff about a great book I read and offer to share if they were interested. I also just added a bulletin board to my room where I display new books that students can borrow to read. My goal is to keep this up all year! #BookCampPD
A4. Just takes a minute to create this idea! Post in the hallway at your school and encourage teachers to have their students add to the wall with sticky - notes. #BookCampPD
Here are the creative titles that were shared by those who responded to a survey question that was asked during August. I was seeking a title for the chat when we circle back to previous books. There are SO MANY that are just SO CUTE I wanted to share them all. #BookCampPD
Ready to "BookCamp Bounce Back" to previous books our chat has highlighted? Next Sunday evening, September 30th, you will be able to share ideas/resources/strategies that you learned about when reading one of these books and implemented in your classroom! #BookCampPD
A4: As a literacy coach, I incorporate prof rdg into PD. I also publish a newsletter once per year highlighting prof texts. This year, I started displaying books on my desk for teachers to peruse when they come in my office. #bookcamppd
Many thanks to Mandy Ellis @mandyeellis for writing such a helpful book for Literacy Leaders and being here this evening to exchange tweets with everyone in our fabulous #PLN You are appreciated!! #BookCampPD
