The chat was created by team at @thegridmethod, but is hosted by guest moderators each week. Our primary moderators are @techieteachott, @raehugart, and @jeffgargas.

net - for catching you when you need it
work - yeah, we all do that, but also means effective

Q2:
My PLNs helped me think through and complete my NBCT renewal. They’ve listenedwhen I’ve vented. Just yesterday members of my OLN helped me think through an assignment for a grad class. Goodness, I hope I give as much!! #MasteryChat
A2: I am going to have a hard time answering this question in a short amount of characters. My PLN has been AMAZING. It gave me confidence, and I started hosting Twitter chats for pre-service Ts at my university @educationisu, and I actually had an article written. #masterychat
A2: The article written was about my Twitter usage. I got to host chats including #masterychat last semester, and I started blogging. Also, and this will bring tears to my eyes, three educators donated $75 to my classroom. https://t.co/EmksDe80Oq#masterychat

A2 I say this all the time when I am talking to social media newbies, but it is worth saying again. in the last year since I began really engaging with educators online, I have learned more about being a teacher than I did in a 10 year career & 2 degrees. #masterychat
A2: honestly hearing success makes me want similar success. It spurs that drive and motivation to strive for more. Really awesome to be connected and help push others.

A2 - @jillian_damon invited me to her #altedtribe and the resources they share through chats have been amazing. @Rdene915 has helped me with looking at different ways to utilize technology and I forget who gave me a great old school tech idea/lesson for next year #masterychat
In reply to
@jeffgargas, @jillian_damon, @Rdene915
A2: (Jumping in from Alaska (Robyn here). My PLN has given me the confidence to keep moving forward and push myself. I see ideas and borrow the brilliance almost everyday! I share what we do in our unique setting and find those in the same situations #masterychat
A2 I say this all the time when I am talking to social media newbies, but it is worth saying again. in the last year since I began really engaging with educators online, I have learned more about being a teacher than I did in a 10 year career & 2 degrees. #masterychat
#MasteryChat A2 My PLN has supported me by providing advice on improving my classroom management. I particularly found this advice helpful on my practicum last year. I was able to put advice into practice and also get recommendations for PD reading.
A2- I love the encouragment I get. None of you know me, but yet you like my tweets, blog posts, ideas! When someone from my PLN retweets something from me, I feel empowered! It validates! #masterychat

A2: I also got to connect with amazing educators, and I am hosting two chats next week with one being my chat that I founded #newteacherjourney on Sunday night. I will also be doing a podcast. I never feel alone, and I know that this support will guide me further. #masterychat
I like this - questions and reflections. Those who may disagree with me may be folks who help me learn much, but where do they fit into the PLN model, especially in a nation as polarized as this one? #masterychat
A2: Without my PLN, I would be nowhere near where I am today. I have had some amazing people in my PLN who have helped create some truly awesome opportunities for me, but more importantly, have been there to help me through some tough challenges. #masterychat
A2: My PLN has encouraged me to take risks and I’ve begun writing a blog and co-moderated my first chat last night, things I never thought I would do #masterychat

I have made some changes to daily events in the class, assessments. I shared a doc w/others about standards and what it means for grades from things the Ss wrote. Validated much of what the Ss and I put together. #MasteryChat

A2: Has impacted how I train Ts as I listen to what is impacting a class today allowing me to broaden my experience while challenging my thinking on an ongoing basis #masterychat
Pre-graduation, my PLN provided a helpful insight into the realities of teaching. They helped me bridge the gap between what I was learning and how it could actually be utilized in the classroom. Now I am using my PLN for ideas and support heading into my 1st year! #masterychat
A little jealous of all you North American based teachers. We are half way through our year and in the middle of winter here in New Zealand. #masterychat
Seriously. The kind of people who see you, who hear you, who you can let in all the way and know, it’s ok. #MASTERYCHAT (or maybe I’m doing twitter wrong these past 5 years 😂)
I love sharing ideas. It’s one of the best way to inspire others and also learn how to be better. Created #Teachpos about 6 weeks ago and it’s been amazing. So many incredible teachers. #masterychat
Once in awhile a few tweets find there way into my feed that seem dark and saturated with negativity. ..Just enough to remind me that the whole world of Twitter isn't as good as we have it #masterychat
I love sharing ideas. It’s one of the best way to inspire others and also learn how to be better. Created #Teachpos about 6 weeks ago and it’s been amazing. So many incredible teachers. #masterychat
#masterychat my PLN carries me when days are tough. I don’t rush ss along. I am more focused on rigor, Relevance, and teaching ss to be decent human beings regardless of admin approval. I have to do what’s right for students first
A2: I learned to appreciate so many different teaching strategies& awe inspiring stories from my PLN. I realized that my voice can be heard and shared with educators everywhere. I feel closer to my professional goals with many opportunities through Twitter PLC. 😍 #masterychat
Longest about of daylight for us Friday and shortest for you, right? You are on the upswing though! From here forward, you are getting closer and closer to your summer!
I'm glad your are with us here today. #masterychat
A1: To me, a PLN is a network of humans—many of whom are “strangers” — who gather around shared interests that help solve problems and guide each other to unique solutions. #MasteryChat
Q3 - #masterychat has helped me grow my PLN beyond my physical and geographical limits. I can now interact and work with amazing teachers from across THE GLOBE! #teachbetter.
A2: My PLN has & continues to help in so many ways! From amazing #makerspace ideas (mini golf anyone?) to @Flipgrid and teaching inspiration. All learning is social, teachers included! #masterychat
A3: Honestly, I think this is the first time I've done #masterychat so I'm building connections and learning new things tonight to carry with me as I plan this summer.
A2: My PLN has given me realistic tips/ideas that I could incorporate in my daily routines as an instructional coach. They are an awesome support system! #masterychat
A3: I can tell you that it is one that I make sure I never miss!!! That and #waledchat and #122edchat and #tlap- although last night I was grocery shopping and tweeting. Not easy, lol!!! #masterychat
A3 Definitely has made it grow!! It's also increased my knowledge and opened me up to new ideas to be able to share with friends that do not use twitter. #masterychat
A3: I found educators who have similar Mindsets as myself. This was the first chat I ever participated in and I enjoyed everything I learned and the ability to expand my PLN. #MasteryChat
A3: I ALWAYS feel so welcome in #masterychat even though I don’t make it to every one. I love that this chat is so friendly and everyone talks to each other.
A2: Without PLN’s I do not believe I would have benefited from the advice, perspective, mistakes, and successes of others - in turn others may not have the opportunity to learn from me! #MasteryChat
A3: #masterychat has been a saving grace for me. I had the opportunity to moderate it once last semester, and I cannot say enough about @RaeHughart, @jeffgargas, @chadostrowski, and @TechieTeachOtt. They inspire me to be the best teacher I can be, and I truly do feel embraced.
Chats for me are like speed dating. It’s a glimpse into the kind of person/educator you are and if I should pursue developing that relationship. There’s not really many wrong ways to do it (contrary to what you may see.) #Masterychat
A1 Ann from Colorado Springs popping in late - PLN to me are like-minded colleagues who I've never met but who challenge and encourage me to be better everyday. #MasteryChat
A3: When I have had a question, needed inspiration, or just an opportunity to connect about things we are doing-#masterychat has been an amazing source! Thank you! 👏🏼
A3 / Because it has a large following, I’ve gotten to see lots of differing opinions about topics. Also, the chats are really relevant to all types of teaching. #masterychat
#MasteryChat A3 This education hashtag has helped me become more confident, make great connections with teachers from all over, who each bring their own unique experiences and stories.
A3) It has opened me up to an amazingly kind and vibrant group! I joined just this year but I’m excited what amazing connections it brings! #masterychat
A1. Definition of PLN for me: Family of educators who motivate, encourage, and promote risk taking, creativity & have the same motto: all about OUR KIDS❤️ #masterychat
#masterychat A3: I’ve only participated in #masterychat one or two other times. Dropping in tonight reminds me I need to put this chat on my weekly calendar!:)
A3: Pretty sure this is my first #masterychat but I jumped on because I saw my friend @GSmit4Character in the room! My @Twitter PLN has grown me by leaps and bounds since I started Tweeting four years ago!
A3. Opportunity to meet great educators, talk with them, share ideas, throw out different experimental perspectives, listen, read, and learn! Globally! #masterychat
A3: The fact that this chat has embraced me with open arms, gave me a virtual hug, and has allowed my light to shine means the world. I joined as a pre-service T, and I am now a 1st year teacher. This chat is truly a part of my journey. #masterychat
A3 - @TechieTeachOtt; @thegridmethod; @RaeHughart: @CoachJonCraig; and many, many, many others (too many to name here) have inspired me to really approach things differently in the coming school year. They also remind me to come out of the vacuum we Ts often live in #masterychat

A2 3D PLN gives me honest feedback after observing and listening. 2D PLN helps me dream and imagine, nudging me to try new ways of reaching my Ss, throwing new resources my direction, and encouraging me to take risks. #MasteryChat
A3: #MasteryChat has been amazing! My PLN has smashed through geographic barriers and no extends all around the world. YOU are part of that PLN, and for that, I thank you!
Yes...I honestly never thought I would have the connections that I do now. Reaching out beyond my classroom walls and site have opened learning opportunities for myself, as well as, my students. #MasteryChat
A3: It has been a constant reminder that the learning continues and it has expanded my PLN every week as I follow more educators and they follow me back. It has been a source of comfort and allowed me an opportunity to learn from home. #MASTERYCHAT
Great job on your blog Christina! You raise some interesting questions about belief. For me it has a lot to do with my inner voice/dialogue. When I choose to say positive things to myself it fuels my belief. I try to get my ss to use positive self talk too. #MasteryChat
In reply to
@CristinaDajero, @TechieTeachOtt, @jeffgargas
A3 #MASTERYCHAT has helped me to grow my PLN and reflect on how I am assessing Ss. I have spent a lot of time looking at my practice in order to best meet my Ss needs
A3:
#Masterychat is the PLN that pushes my thinking the most. I love all of my chats for different reasons, and #Masterychat because it challenges me. (Plus, when I miss, I always feel welcomed back!! :) )
A3: If it was just the vibe and the excitement and passion I feel through this computer, that would be enough. But I believe #MasteryChat truly challenges educators to step up and be better while maintaining joy!
Thank you so much for your feedback- that really means a lot. This year, I found that I was trying so hard to inspire my Ss & Ts to believe in themselves, but first I had to believe in myself! #masterychat
In reply to
@tmatteson84, @TechieTeachOtt, @jeffgargas
A3 so great to go beyond district boundaries! As a language teacher I encourage my kids to be global citizens #masterychat helps this process immensely!
Yes! It is our inspiration AND our motivation! It shows us where our thinking might need to change AND helps us know the path to change it.
I love it. #masterychat
A3: If it was just the vibe and the excitement and passion I feel through this computer, that would be enough. But I believe #MasteryChat truly challenges educators to step up and be better while maintaining joy!
A3: Through this chat, I am able to see how far I have come, but I would not be where I am today without this #masterychat family. Thank you for giving me confidence and giving us this amazing platform. It brings tears to my eyes.
Q3: I just joined The Grid Method for Mastery. I am a Learning Coach for 8th grade Social Studies in a GT STEM school. I am anxious to get to know other professionals in the group! #MasteryChat

#masterychat has helped grow my PLN for sure! I try to follow educators who are as active and passionate as I am.... what better way to find them than participating in a chat?!
A2: There is always a positive message. As life-long learners we need and thrive around knowledge that adds depth to our personal tool box! being connected to PLNs build that foundation we need to move forward #masterychat
Its tough, but definitely worth the effort to focus on yourself first in the long run. I am definitely more apt to follow someone who is confident and believes in themselves. I think kids are the same way. You're doing amazing & you're going to keep getting better! #MasteryChat

A5: I ❤️ how everything is run and the awesome crew who supports and leads! If there was ever a way to answer a survey of potential topics per month or semester, I would be game for providing input! #masterychat

A3 I think that #masterychat is a great chat because of the great people who come each week! I have made so many connections with great teachers from all over.
A4: I personally do not have any changes. I love the various topics and the diversity of individuals ranging from pre-service Ts to veteran teachers. Your hard work truly does pay off, and I think this chat tonight is a perfect example of that. #masterychat
A3. I so agree with @TechieTeachOtt#MASTERYCHAT has opened doors to friendships! First being @RaeHughart who reached out during a #MASTERYCHAT we connected/Skyped and gained so many ideas from her! From there the doors have flown open with friendships. Hope to meet f2f 1 day!
#MasteryChat provides a great deal of pedagogical strategies and support to PST especially. Keep the variety of topics up! I enjoy learning and growing.
Thank you so much- it’s definitely a process but worth it. I’m willing to try anything if it means that my Ss & colleagues will be successful. What I’ve learned is that I need to listen to my own advice 😉 #masterychat

A4) Could it possibly run 30-45 minutes? I am asking for a friend, @MrPStrunk . Okay...fine...I love #masterychat but an hour does go fast but Okay. I feel bad for bringing it up. Sorry. #masterychat
A4) You can add & question or 2 to be answered in slow chart form during the week in between regularly scheduled chats. Maybe they have something to do w/the last chat's topic. Just an idea. #masterychat
A4 I can’t think of any. I know you do the Facebook previews and recaps - maybe tweet the link to the videos for those who don’t know. I also like the reminder tweet. #MASTERYCHAT
Is there a slow chat option? I am newer to #masterychat so I am not sure. But I would like to be able to teach staff how to join if I can go to the questions and model answers, etc.
Thank You!! I do have to say...If it wasn't for some people (hint) to actually reach out and provide a more "real" connection on Twitter I don't think I would have opened myself up as much as I have. I am so looking forward to next year and all the possibilities. #MasteryChat

Confession: I don’t like most twitter chats #masterychat brings in some great people, what I really want to see is as this community gets closer, we start to talk about more difficult topics. Topics we might passionately disagree upon
#masterychat chats, in general need easier to find questions- rather than scrolling feed to find questions. Other than that, just keep lovin all these 😜 PLN folk 😁
I think just the fact that you’re asking this question is awesome! We’re constantly reflecting on our own practice (in and out of the classroom) to check for relevance and best fit for all! #masterychat
A4: I love #MasteryChat just the way it is! Great variety of topics and educators to learn from. I would like to get a remind text like I do for some of the other chats.
A4: If I may borrow a law firm phrase, you all are "for the people." haha. I love the variety too, I also love the pre and post live video. How awesome is that! #MasteryChat
A2: By being an extension of the brainstorming process, with many opinions come from many options. Engaged members of a PLN help support this.
#MasteryChat
Educating the next generation is an honor & responsibility, which I see from those who participate is taken very seriously. Our chats help to keep us current in our practice and knowledge #masterychat
A4: I recently started my own chat #newteacherjourney, and it is nowhere close to #masterychat. This chat is truly one of a kind. I have a great example to live up to, and I am working on improving and spreading the word.
A4: This chat is amazing! I do love having slow chat ?s through the week as well to respond to and connect with people at any time that is convenient. #masterychat
A4: #MasteryChat so far chats have been engaging, beneficial to my teaching, & fun! Maybe throwing out some topics centered on Specialized fields like Ss w/disabilities, giftedness, behavioral challenges...the kids we all have and can share best practices with!
Q4:Well, I’m not sure that I have figured it out. Is this a chat solely through questions and responses or is there a live video I am missing? #masterychat
Q5 - I'm always looking for more effective ways with my amazing @thegridmethod team to help others #teachbetter. If anyone ever has any constructive suggestions on how we can accomplish that goal...LET's HEAR IT! #masterychat
A5) I want to learn more about incorporating STEAM into my lessons. I'm also still packing up my classroom, if you can help w/that. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? #masterychat
A3: Introducing me to new members (increasing the network) and ideas for assessment, will be revamping some of my practices this summer as I prepare for fall.
#MasteryChat
A5:
Challenge 1 - to plan more activities building-wide that involve my colleagues like this PLN does.
Challenge 2 - to promote my book (is that selfish?)
#masterychat
A5: right now I find the most challenging is processing, digesting and deciding where to start. I’ve learned so much so far this summer and have so much more to go and sometimes it seems overwhelming. #MasteryChat
A5: How to convince more principals of the benefit of participating in a Twitter chat that not only promotes growth but can be very effective in sharing a positive message #masterychat
A5 Next year I will be pursuing the use of @Schoology as the platform for teaching using blended learning. I have some resources but can always use more! #masterychat
Connecting globally is easy, but access to the same #twitterfriends annually in #real life would be awesome! Can you imagine the energy??? #MASTERYCHAT
I read this and the nervousness for August hit my tummy again 😬 - there is SO MUCH that goes into the first year of teaching. Tips for paying for/prepping my first classroom? Book recommendations? Reassurance? I’ll be in 5th grade! #masterychat
From 8-9 est it is a chat here on Twitter with questions and answers. Before and after the chat we hop over to The Grid Method page on Facebook and go live for even more conversation! #masterychat
#MasteryChat A5 I suffered from Math anxiety in High school. Math is not an area I'm still confident in teaching, although I did ok on my practicum last year. What advice would you give to me as a PST in overcoming this for my next prac?
A5 Moving away from a school full of innovators and support to a Title I Turnaround school where innovation is much more difficult. Nothing specific, except I know my need for innovation support will be greater. #masterychat
A5: I'm building a PBL math class for juniors and seniors in a self-contained instructional setting. Would love resources for PBL! Ideas for possible topics to explore, collecting and assessing data, etc. #masterychat
A5: As much as I love thinking about being able to #TeachBetter by reading and going to conferences I don't want to get sucked in - to where I ask myself "Where did summer go?" #MasteryChat
A5: I was fortunate to have three teachers donate 75 dollars to help me fund my classroom for my 1st year of teaching. I am nervous about August and keep on dreaming about my classroom. I would just really appreciate advice so that I could have a smooth transition. #masterychat
A5: How do you maintain positivity when someone tries to add toxic ideas, attitude, & energy to meetings, their GL, and make people give up on innovation & risk taking? #masterychat
A5: #MASTERYCHAT - We are starting Readers and Writers Workshop next year. I'm a little worried about how to still be innovative and not lose my style in the process.
A5: Currently on a journey to learn and support Ts toward Learner-Centered classroom, lessons, agency. Building my knowledge so I can walk down the hallway and be able to articulate what it is and possible ways to access it. #MasteryChat
A5: how to keep going and moving ahead, esp. when the kids are pushing back. By the end of this year, I lost all of my energy and just let some things go. #MasteryChat
Sometimes the best way to start...is to simply start. Knock one thing off your list. Then go to the next. Just start. If you wait til it's no longer overwhelming, chances are it'll be too late. You've got this! #MasteryChat
#masterychat
A5 It is going to be challenging next year(I am my campus ESL teacher) due to Texas now requiring all teachers who have an EL in their classes be ESL certified. They are not...
A5 I have been thinking about setting up @Seesaw chats at our local Starbucks and opening it up to a larger group. I held a few at school, but want to keep them going during the summer. I also have no idea how to use Tweetdeck 🤷🏻♀️#MASTERYCHAT
My current conundrum is my LMS I use @CanvasLMS and am considering the change to @Schoology because I think it will be easier for students (I can only use the free version of each) --> if I could only merge the good points of each! Thoughts? #masterychat#lms#edtech
A5 Keep these chats going. This year, I am hoping to start the grid method, so I'll be asking questions. Also will be completing the Teach Further course this summer. Loving the idea of making the learning real to help engage my Dynamites. #masterychat
A5: How do you maintain positivity when someone tries to add toxic ideas, attitude, & energy to meetings, their GL, and make people give up on innovation & risk taking? #masterychat
A1: A group of like-minded people that you can brainstorm and collaborate with. You can trust them to be honest with you, whether it's what you want to hear or not. #masterychat
What a wonderful goal! If you haven't, check out mastery and personalized learning. There are a bunch of free resources at https://t.co/0bkdM2EvBl! #masterychat
A5: As our school goes 1:1 next year I am taking a huge risk and flipping my 6th grade US History class. Very nervous about it and would love encouragement and successful strategies. I have videos, stations, hyperdocs, and a few other things already for ideas. #masterychat
A4: When I see the hashtag #masterychat I am reminded that so many of our learning and accountability systems focus on compliance and standardized results. To focus on Mastery for ALL learners (as we should) is pushing against the grain (as we should) THIS.. #masterychat
I think some Ts and even principals are afraid bc they may face retributions or embarrassment from colleagues or superiors for what they tweet in a chat #masterychat
You. Are. Awesome. You've got this. It's going to be a rollercoaster ride, but that's part of the fun. Enjoy the challenges. Learn from them and keep adjusting your sails. You will be awesome. And we've all got your back. #MasteryChat
A5: Been thinking a ton about evolving professional learning delivery... after today's conference session, I have been wondering if we could hold a sustained coding "camp" or "jam" for teachers to build interest/ skills in CS... #MasteryChat
Chromebook is not cooperating tonight, and I think I just somehow blocked somebody from something! I was trying to reply Advice to new teachers would make a great #masterychat
A5: I feel prepared for my 1st year because of being connected on Twitter and the amazing education program @educationISU, but the fear still creeps in at times, and I wonder if I have what it takes to be successful. I am going to give 110 %.#masterychat
Only the best teacher @RaeHughart who has taken time to met up with me and guide me! I also love when she pops up on my feed... she's pretty awesome! #masterychat
A5: I’m really excited to be returning to the classroom next year with a grade 4 class! I would love to connect with other grade 4 teachers and find a grade 4 chat to further grow my PLN! Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks in advance! #masterychat
A2: They have encouraged me to try new things and look at things differently. They really make me think about what I am doing in the classroom, is it what's best for the Ss or something it because it's what I've always done. #masterychat
A6 I have to shout out my friend @ErikaChacra who listens to all of my crazy ideas. I have a host of others off twitter, but on I have to say a HUGE thank you to the entire #masterychat and #waledchat group for always giving the greatest advice and making me think.
A5: Finding balance between pacing and curriculum in order to achieve mastery. I would appreciate any recommendations for little ways I can tweak in my classroom! #masterychat#curriculum#iteach
A6: I've really been digging what @tyarnold18 has been sharing from his school. @joemullikin86 has been doing great things at my daughter's school. And of course, @PrincipalGruber for supporting me for the last two years, and giving me a job :) #masterychat#shoutouts

A5: I collaborate mostly with local educators and others in the community. I have tried a few times to get something going with others, but usually falls through. Any suggestions?
#masterychat
A6: #MASTERYCHAT - I can't single anyone out because everyone has contributed to my learning and growth. Just know that I admire all of you and hope many of us can meet in person some day.
Remember why you're there, why you try new things and take risks. It is not for that person and their attitude. You're there for those kids. And nothing that negative person says or does is stronger than the drive you have to do what's best for your students. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat The list is to long! Thank you to all my PLN! Special mention to @MsJachymiak who continues to inspire, one of the first PST'S I followed!
I think personal development for educators will be changing in some really interesting ways over the next few years! There are so many ways to connect that just weren't available five or ten years ago! #masterychat

For FREE coding units look into Google CS! Google will send you everything you need for free and if you have access to a computer lab you for your kids you can learn to manage and facilitate a coding club! #MasteryChat

A5: Any Seesaw champs out there with links to free tutorials or resources for a novice I would love to learn to use this program w/ my Ss this upcoming year! #MasteryChat
A5: I don't know how much of a challenge it will be yet, but I'm teaching 1st grade summer school. Our theme is 'Animals around the World'. I would love any tips or resources to make it a wonderful experience for my ss. #MasteryChat
I will plug @mrronclark_ any chance I get to brag on someone in education.
Great example of someone who cares a ton about students, has extreme positive energy, high achieving students, and strict discipline. Basically, The Man.
#MasteryChat
A6: everyone on #MasteryChat. Seriously! It's so great to see all the good in education as sadly our profession is at times under attack.
Huge props to: @dene_gainey@MrCoachEli@MsVandeborne
Worth the follow.
Special thanks goes out to @jeffgargas. This chat inspires me on a weekly basis. Tonight was truly one of my favorite chats. You are such a rockstar, and I mean that wholeheartedly. #masterychat
A6 After being in teaching for almost 15 years, I was feeling alone and isolated! Since jumping in EDU Twitter world, I have been embraced and included. I love everyone for being who they are, which is awesome! #masterychat
A6: I could never name just 1 person. There are numerous educators who have helped my PLN. I will say @AMLE has been so amazing in this aspect. #masterychat#AMLEleaders
Hey #masterychat! I hope you'll consider swinging by #waledchat for some reflection on student success and growth areas for next year! We are starting up in 5 minutes!
Agreed! I look forward to more and more PL moving away from one-offs and sit-and-get... we have been focusing on relationships, reflection, and feedback (to note a few things) as a way to build competence and confidence... #MasteryChat
