#DevDiscuss well I'm currently listening to Lykke Li's so sad so sexy but for coding? I can't listen to music. I just end up singing. I have to be very used to a certain framework or tool to be able to listen to music while coding.
I don't generally code with music, unless it's noisy around me and I need the noise cancelling effects, in which case I usually stream classical through those headphones 🎵🎶

Lately I have been listening to a lot classic punk: Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, The Clash, Misfits, Dropkick Murphy, Pennywise, Operation Ivy. All that angst makes me feel like I can take on the world. #DevDiscuss
I match my music to my mood and needs at the time.
Do I need to hang in there and find ways to enjoyably code for a few hours with little pressure?
Or do I need to intensely focus on a goal, while reading a lot of docs along the way?
Vastly different music for each #DevDiscuss
My go to coding music used to be: OST The Social Network, OST Tron: Legacy. This year I've gotten into hip-hop, so it's Notorious B.I.G., Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Clipse, Pusha T, Nas, Cardi B, Azealia Banks, Eminem, Missy Elliot, etc etc. :) #DevDiscuss
I would also recommend: The Crystal Method, Shout Out Out Out Out, Daft Punk (anything by them is good esp. try Alive 1997 and Alive 2007, Homework, Discovery), Die Antwoord, Cage the Elephant, Juno Reactor.

https://t.co/u1CXzmuM8K for me. Specially rain sound.
It's really hard for me to listen to music without ending focusing on it instead of working.

It depends on my mood. If I'm concentrating on some work I prefer nature sounds and a second screen with that. If I'm debugging or not doing much thinking I go with my pop/rock playlist.
#DevDiscuss
Electronic w/o lyrics, same song on repeat, or...
Video game soundtracks. A lot of ppl swear by it for concentration. Doesn’t always work for me, but I occasionally flip to a soundtrack station. #DevDiscuss
I have a Playlist of about 120 hours of vocal free movie soundtracks (Star Trek, Pirates, Inception, Bond, HP, etc) on a portable hard drive. If I don't have that I use a YouTube Playlist of video game soundtracks (Oblivion, Halo, Final Fantasy, etc) I can stream. #DevDiscuss
I find the music I listen to sets the pace of my work. Depending on what I need it could be ambient all the way to some house or club music. #DevDiscuss
There's a track called "Weightless" by Marconi Union that's supposedly been shown to help reduce anxiety and lower cortisol production. And they have a 10 hour long version, so I can just throw it on and go. #devdiscusshttps://t.co/qRJDR9VZSg
Preferably nothing at all. I can't help listening to music analytically ("Nice Sus4 chord"; "Is that an 808 or 909 snare?"; "Too much sidechain compression"), so I find it too distracting. #DevDiscuss
I will go all in on a genre and listen to that exclusively switching it up from time to time. The only constant is classical music for when I am working on a really tough problem and I need complete concentration. #DevDiscuss
My music habits have evolved from Pandora to now I use everything but that. Spotify, YouTube Music, and Hilly Dilly. Haven't logged into Pandora in years. #DevDiscuss
Years ago, I would have never thought to try and play the same song on repeat while coding. I also wouldn’t have thought that turning off music would help, but it can. Sometimes, I’ll turn music off while coding and forget I still have my phones on... #DevDiscuss
At the moment it's Battle Angel by @RSMmusicSound (which is awesome btw). I'm usually good with anything instrumental or electronic. Words are okay as long as they're blended and not at the forefront of the track. That derails my thinking into singing lol. #DevDiscuss
My music choices have gotten much more deliberate in terms of how they affect me. I used to be a lot more laissez faire about what went in my ears. #DevDiscuss
Depends on the mood. Sometimes rock guitar (Steve Morse, @331erock, Satriani, Eric Johnson), sometimes electronic (e.g. @MitisOfficial). But lyrics are a non-starter.

Fleetwood Mac, @brasstracks, Chance the Rapper, and a whole lot more!
My development music changes up week to week, sometimes day to day 🎶🎧

Video game soundtracks as its designed for concentration and nostalgia, which makes writing code feel like a video game: https://t.co/yCttsU3DYE#DevDiscuss

My music is all over the place in terms of what I like or reach for, but I am pretty deliberate in the moment. #DevDiscuss
Perusing my recently played coding music on Spotify. Comedy is a new one but it can be pretty fun for more monotonous work.
I have a Spotify 90s playlist that I run basically on repeat. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the highly underrated Candlebox to name a few. #DevDiscusshttps://t.co/89fcOaUozt
I either need to listen to something I know really well or instrumental music. I've been listening to this a lot lately (fits both conditions!) https://t.co/xdI95OqVif#devdiscuss
I’m a pop music lover, so you would expect lots of Britney Spears and Lily Allen on my playlists. Apart from that, I listen to rap/hip hop, r&b and 70s music 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾 #DevDiscuss
I used to play more upbeat songs back in the day to get me pumped for coding. As the years went by, I started choosing some classical music for tasks that required that extra mile of attention. When it comes to Friday, all I can think of is a good vibes playlist 💯 #DevDiscuss
My go-to recording when I just have to block out the rest of the office and get something done is Pink Floyd's "Animals" album. I can't say exactly why -- it just works for me. #devdiscuss
Techno/dance/electronica/workout with no/few vocals. Amazon Prime music has a lot of hour long mixes. I have a playlist with dozens of them and just shuffle.
#DevDiscuss
I listen to a lot of soundtracks. Orchestrated stuff without lyrics mainly. Lyrics throw off my concentration, personally. But I've got headphones on all day at work. #DevDiscuss
Music taste depends on kind of timing and event that I am attending.
In morning, I kind of listen Buddhism Music during coding hours and in day kind of classic rock to hard rock depending on task.
Sometimes, soundtrack from favorite movies works well.

I live for my Discover Weekly, but I feel like my listening habits + Spotify's overall bent is very up my alley?
Never been the kind of person who needed like, trance music or something, to code #DevDiscuss
I couldn't code with music at first, until I had to work with a loud server in the room, then the headphones became a good alternative and I got to used to listen to music while working. #DevDiscuss
Over time, yes the music pattern has evolved differently and yes the way of coding as well. Because on constant note, you start feeling something different happening kind of.

#DevDiscuss For me it's usually movie and video game soundtracks. The lack of lyrics helps me concentrate. Plus, the music can tell a story or allow me to create my own.

I learned bash scripting and that side of server/user management by changing our team's workflow to SSH & Git.
I'm really happy & proud that in my last few months, my job let me have the time to really make a lasting impact on the team!
