Welcome to #edtechchat! Please introduce yourself and share from where you’re joining us! We’re excited to welcome @EdTechPeck as tonight’s moderator to discuss Summer Planning!
Q1: An important part of planning is reflection. With that in mind, what is one success or challenge that you have walked away with from this past school year?
#edtechchat
A1: I am constantly being challenged this year to delegate - projects, planning, worrying, etc - and I have been partially successful - hoping I can use the summer to lock it in! #edtechchat
Several of our campuses that have gone 1:1 with Chromebooks are doing great. I credit the principals for their high expectations (and for developing a relationship with our department) and the Ts for being willing to get out of their comfort zones & try new things. #edtechchat
Q1: An important part of planning is reflection. With that in mind, what is one success or challenge that you have walked away with from this past school year?
#edtechchat
A1 Ive been struggling to get teachers in my schools interested in Digital PD. Admins arent very involved and dont have a vision. My challenge is to get them more involved. Any ideas are appreciated. : ) #EdTechChat
Hello #edtechchat. 4th & 5th grade T from Maine.
A1 Success, differentiating reading instruction and guiding new professional growth model. Challenge, delivering a sound & individualized word study program.
A1 Planning to plan. Life gets busy, we get pulled, focus shifts to what seems most important. Plan to plan what needs to be done when and you will be more successful in accomplishing your goals. Seriously, go set a calendar event called "Review Calendar." #edtechchat
A1. One challenge I walked away from setting up a TEDxYouth program at my district. I was the one driving it, but it required more commitment than I had energy for. Already planning now for it to work next year.
#edtechchat
This is tough. Finding opportunity in the face of challenges has helped build some productive friction in our school. Seek opportunities to leverage tech #edtechchat
A1: Success w/ leading some reading PD sessions & following the ss growth over the year. Some ss have made well over a years worth of growth! 📚📖 #edtechchat
A1: one success is working with Ts to realize it's about the skills and the content can be woven in - doesn't matter if your partner is teaching a different math strand - what does communication (for example) look like? #edtechchat
A1: Working with special education students, I often am faced with hesitant learners. This year by really getting to know my students and using their interests in their learning I was able to engage and inspire my young learners. #edtechchat#sbpdchat
A1: I presented some work to a district and they said “Where is the #edtech?” - Sometimes we assume that intentional integration is obvious and we need to be explicit in how we communicate our ideas AND tools. Weird. #edtechchat
A1: Working with special education students, I often am faced with hesitant learners. This year by really getting to know my students and using their interests in their learning I was able to engage and inspire my young learners. #edtechchat#sbpdchat
That's awesome. Very powerful for students, sometimes they struggle with that kind of change. Hopefully it was fruitful for you and your Ss #edtechchat
A1) After doing a lot of research, I wanted to push my instruction and leverage technology to create a homework free English classroom. I've got 2 weeks left, and we are beginning our final play, so I feel like I'm hitting my goal! #edtechchat
A2: Hoping to spend the summer creating more content to share with my colleagues in school and around the 🌎. Not enough time during the school year as I would like. #edtechchat
A1 #edtechchat My second reflection was on how to learn more about design thinking in Steam and career awareness. Taking a 2 week in service on the topic this summer. 30 years in teaching still learning
it has been amazing this year, challenges as we tried new things, but much better for relationships, collaboration and creating our classroom together #edtechchat
A2: My goal is simple to find some good podcasts to listen and learn from. I am just learning about them now (Don't judge it's been a crazy couple of years) and I want to know more. Any suggestions? #edtechchat
A2 develop a summer program for students to be implemented next year, also streamline database work, take some time to build relationships across admin #edtechchat
This is such a great point and I definitely relate! I spent most of my placements in very tech heavy/focused classrooms and sometimes I struggled initially when I started supplying in classrooms with not as much of a tech focus #edtechchat
A2: Hoping to do some PD this summer, and R&R for the mind. It is important to get the mind to relax and recharge a bit before the start of another amazing year! #edtechchat
A2 Want to consider a better method for delivering an individualized word study curriculum. Will look to make better use of our flipped lessons and differentiation menus. Also want to explore @Flipgrid and develop #makered possibilities. #edtechchat
That's great...challenge is often that set up is more the exception than the norm. Teaching kids to interact and leverage that environment can be challenging #edtechchat
Same 🚢. Taking #designthinking from a framework that many struggle with its abstractness and apply it in course context. Authoring a course for @participate trying to solve this. Excited for that #edtechchat
A goal I have set this summer is to research new ways to integrate technology with struggling readers. Attend districts Tech2Teach conference and participate in #edtechchat weekly! ☺️ #5305
A2: Goal is to get students working in stations with adaptive math as the technology portion. Also stay up to date with website and google classroom. #edtechchat
A2) I really want to create a choose your own adventure literary unit. It will take a lot of planning on my end, but I think the payoff would be amazing to FINALLY have true student agency...in ENGLISH CLASS!!! #edtechchat
I totally agree and can relate with this point. Like you said, I really find that taking extra care to find out their interests and the incorporating that into learning material has worked best for me to engage these learners #edtechchat
A1: Working with special education students, I often am faced with hesitant learners. This year by really getting to know my students and using their interests in their learning I was able to engage and inspire my young learners. #edtechchat#sbpdchat
A2: Goal this summer is to share more strategies than tools, and bring Ts together to create summer PLCs in more relaxing places. #PatioPD#pubpd#CoffeeEDU#edtechchat
A2 I want to keep learning more about augmented and virtual reality, new ideas for PBL and I have some goals to write more, finally put a book/books together, fingers crossed #edtechchat
That would be awesome! This can be done using a variety of tools, I've seen it done with Google Forms, turned out great! #edtechchathttps://t.co/o51g3DeJ9p
A2: The use of technology in my classroom really motivates most of learners. I hope to spend time learning about different tools for students to use in the classroom. Looking into programs to increase in engagement and fun with writing instruction. #edtechchat#sbpdchat
#edtechchat hi sorry for late .it's early morning hear in India . I love tech tools integration in my history LESSONS and I am all the time seeking new opportunities to learn more
A2. I was fortunate to win 6 mo. subscription to @SmorePages from @EdCampAtlanta. Going to spend time creating Toliet Tech Tips - flyers to post in the adult bathrms. There is no escape from Tech Tips!!
#edtechchat
A2: I’m also very excited to create more instructional videos and resources this summer and get my education blog up and running! It will be a creative summer! #edtechchat
I really agree.. sometimes its a bit scary and intimidating at first but I find it opens up so many more doors, ideas and so much more creativity within our students #edtechchat
Several Ts use and ❤️ Flipgrid at my school. Great tool for reflection and capturing Ss work/thought. We also use Membean for vocabulary as Ss are individually leveled. #edtechchat
A2 I'm going to focus on having fun with #edtech this summer. The things I have the most fun with, that I can turnkey, I will offer to my teachers and optional pd in August. Play together to learn together! #edtechchat
A2: I am transitioning from teaching K-3 Sped to ECSE. This summer I want to find edtech that I can begin to use with young children. What works best? What is functional? #edtechchat#CI5307
A2. Delivering about a gazillion PD classes (really it’s only 51 - so far over 1000 registrations!) with more modeling of what we want to see in classrooms. And more time for the Ts to talk/reflect about what they’re learning. No more teaching a tool! #edtechchat
Many positive applications for @Flipgrid and look forward to my exploration. Thanks for the tip of Membean. Is there a gaming structure? Badging? #edtechchat
OK - being totally distracted by the fact that I upgraded my laptop and my second "monitor" that was an old 720p HDMI tv is no longer cutting it - might need a trip to walmart to save my eyes! #edtechchat
Always looking for new idea's/tools when it comes to technology... I feel like the options and resources out there are truly endless.. sometimes just takes a little bravery to actually try it out in the classroom the following year- haha! #edtechchat
Been trying to find time for this - really need a central location for Ts to find videos, handouts, etc... I know it will be in @Schoology but I just need to organize and share better. #Edtechchat
A1: Success - incorporating virtual field trips. We took trips to rainforests, landfills, & the Supreme Court. We used apps like @nearpod & other resources. They enhanced learning & helped engage Ss. #edtechchat
Membean does feel like a game in that it’s web based and Ss are tracked by minutes they train. Variety of questions used and Ts get a ton of data from time spent, words seen for individuals and classes. #edtechchat
A2: I want to work on making my own activities for interactive white boards so that I can tailor the activities to my students’ needs. I want to become more skilled with the tech. #edtechchat
A3)Signed up my youngest son for swim lessons during the same exact time my oldest has swim practice. BOOM! That's 45 WHOLE minutes of #poolpd#edtechchat
A3: I am currently working on finding my next position. Once I know it & my curriculum, I’ll put aside time each week to work on putting together interactive activities. #edtechchat
My Summer Fun and Learning page https://t.co/8FtXZD1tFP has links to these pages: Summer Fun, Summer Learning, Summer Reading, Summer School, Summer School for Administrators, Conferences & EdCamps #edtechchat
I plan on carving out time by making time for chat weekly. Attending scheduled conferences and keeping a checklist handy to keep myself accountable. #edtechchat #5305
A3. My department of 4 is busier in the summer even than we are during the school year! We started planning our summer classes a couple months ago. We love love love working with teachers ANY time, and especially during the summer! #edtechchat
Really trying to use the summer to master some organization strategies. Has anyone succeed in using “Getting things done” or Covey’s Quadrant methods? #edtechchat
A3. Coffee on the lanai with @iwearthecrowns before the kids wake up is a great time to meet personalized learning goals with a tremendous view for sure #edtechchat
A3 for real, I plan to keep the books nearby, one in the . kitchen, one in the car for the gym, and set aside time each day to learn, plus through awesome conferences this month, hopefully it will push me forward #edtechchat
A3 I am lucky to be with my kids during the summer. We give ourselves 45 minutes of quiet time in the mornings to do our own work. I do my work while they read, paint, build, etc. Lake time also helps my mind wander towards big and exciting new ideas. #edtechchat
A3. Unless I'm at a conference or on out-of-town vacation (!), I spend an hour a day minimum working on #edtech (usually first thing in the morning when even the dogs are still sleeping)
#edtechchat
A3 I started a little early and have some of it done, thank goodness. but I am hoping to get a bulk of it done before I leave for the summer. After that I may just have to say each day or so gets a certain time for planning. but not too much time. #EdTechChat
Do y’all know @ericcurts ‘s blog? He has AMAZING resources for Google Classroom (and just about every other Google-y thing you could ask for) https://t.co/CVfuGthuX3#edtechchat

A3: Travel. I need a much needed vacation first, then I will give myself an hour a day to plan for next school year or learn something new. #edtechchat
A3 We have long days for summer hours. I'm thinking an #edtech play hour might be a good use of some of those otherwise long summer days? Do you think one long or several short is better? #edtechchat
Q4: What resources might you use to help you accomplish your goals? Share with us the books, sites, blogs, podcasts, or other form of media you might use! #edtechchat
Q4: What resources might you use to help you accomplish your goals? Share with us the books, sites, blogs, podcasts, or other form of media you might use! #edtechchat
All I need to complete summer goals ... a couch and a computer ... why must we overplan our Summer ... is it wrong to stay up late ... and sleep in? #edtechchat
A4 the teachers and media coordinators will be my best resource. I want to brainstorm with them to design PD that will be worthwhile for the teachers. Also the resources from our states Digital Teaching and Learning Competencies will be a big help. #EdTechChat
Q4: What resources might you use to help you accomplish your goals? Share with us the books, sites, blogs, podcasts, or other form of media you might use! #edtechchat
A4: Mostly online and spending time researching and using different apps and programs so that I can then turnkey how to use them to my students. This will hopefully help us "hit the ground running" with them at the beginning of the year! #edtechchat#sbpdchat
Q4: What resources might you use to help you accomplish your goals? Share with us the books, sites, blogs, podcasts, or other form of media you might use! #edtechchat
A3: My kids are getting older and sleeping later. I get a lot done before they get out of bed for lunch, or before they get home from work. #edtechchat
A3: I will try to carve out time by plugging away at things here and there. Lucky to live in an age where research is at our fingertips! Going to try to carry a small @moleskine notebook to capture my thinking when away from the blog or computer. #edtechchat
A4 My Twitter #PLN always leaves me a great trail of breadcrumbs to follow. Summer inspiration will also come from rereading some favorites including @IntentionBook and Innovator's Mindset. #edtechchat
If anyone is in Quad cities and an early riser, I’m doing a #CoffeeEdu in Davenport at the Starbucks on Kimberly 7-8am DM me if you need more info. #edtechchat
A4 I love these questions because we all have the answer available to us--ask your media specialist / librarian! @debschi and @njcybrarian are my go-to people when I need a reviewed, cultivated resource to support any of my goals. Support your librarians. @NJASL#edtechchat
A4: Love learning by watching other creators on YouTube. Learn a lot about photo/video techniques and editing by watching the work of others. #edtechchat
You will! I’m so excited. I’m bringing 2 of our Ts with, and the 2 I brought from another school last year - they’re bringing 3 more. @USMSpark#Edtechchat

I plan on reading David Burgress's "Teach Like a Pirate" & I listen to @LizLearningSpot's podcast (for ECSE folk out there). I was hoping to find some resouces from this chat as well! #edtechchat
This is a game changer for our learning journeys @nehs_nay Now a standardized template can be created and duplicated for each student #edtech#edtechchat#edtechftw
Attending Admin day at KTI conference on July 24. The teacher-leader who invited me is SO energized to reach her peers with the capabilities of technology, she practically glows! @hillybeal23
A5 Have worked on VR this year and @debschi did the legwork and fixed the VR set I purchased for us last year, so looking forward to figuring out how that can be used in our classes! Need to generate procedures, lessons for introduction, and eventually curriculum... #edtechchat
It’s not exactly a techy solution, but I use a three-column portable whiteboard labeled NOW, NEXT, and SOON. NOW for the immediate tasks, NEXT for the immediately pending ones, and SOON for the ones that aren’t urgent though I do not want to forget. #edtechchat
A5) I'll be experimenting with a multi-sensory approach to teach spelling to dyslexics. I refuse to accept the idea that they will never be able to spell...so I plan on learning all I can with my reading specialist friends and developing a system that works. #edtechchat
A5 i will be looking for the most efficient tools to use to give simple micro-badge type of PD online, so that I can focus face2face time with the teachers designing lessons #EdTechChat
I seem to have gravitated back towards youtube and am big on the idea of that right now.. definitely a tool that can be used to further my knowledge and achieve my goal while also learning more about youtube itself #edtechchat
Yeah...Were looking to dip our feet in the water, seems that it is so new it's not worth going crazy over the hardware. iPads have so many uses win-win #edtechchat
I am an Android user, and last summer had to buy a MAC, bit of a learning curve, I need a new phone, so I will probably get an iPhone, but this iPad is my way to learn how to use it I guess :) #edtechchat
That was my reaction @nathan_stevens when a colleague brought it to me for use in his Ph.D. program, but demoed it with A staff and looking at pushing it out to T staff & pricing it for Ss... the feedback has been that good. Anything that helps me write gooder ;) ... #edtechchat

Had a group of 4th graders use @hpreveal to make an AR scavenger hunt about environmental protection. They won 1st place in a local competition! #edtechchat
A6 I hope to tap into them before summer is here. I want to create a differentiated Bingo board with various tech tasks for my staff to explore on the last PD day #edtechchat
A6) engaging twitter chats like these, and cornering @CoachJonCraig at our local pool where I convinced his family to get a pool membership...lol #poolpd#edtechchat
A6 We connect with @voxer and so excited to be seeing so many this month at conferences, great to have support and encouragement available, and pushback when needed too #edtechchat
if you have iPads by chance, Apple just shared a bunch of new AR tech with the new iOS. Game Changers. it was really cool. Really makes me wish the iPads in our schools werent so old. : (

A6 This maybe is one of my biggest goals this summer - teach myself behaviors to engage my PLN every day. I want to tweet at least one thought, one thing I've done, and one thing staff has done a day, then add Ss in Sept. Schedule time! #edtechchat
A6: #edtechchat@voxer bookchats have changed my professional practice on a daily basis. I will be facilitating a chat on #BoldSchool this summer. Check out the @smore to sign up now!
A6. For example: "do a Google hangout with 2 other teachers in other locations and use the document share feature" I hope to pass it by my PLN and get more and diverse ideas #edtechchat
So when you say differentiated, do you mean the bingo card would be set for a level or a curricular area? Maybe lower tech skills card? Like the idea.#EdTechChat
A6 It will be important to unplug during the summer but during designated work times I will reach out to my awesome PLN, write some blog posts, and share time with great edus & thinkers (yup, that's you @adamburk@WickedDecent@PondCoveTech)
A6: I will reach out to my PLN this summer for ideas and best practices for using @Flipgrid, AR and VR, @RemindHQ and other educational technology. #edtechchat
A6 Im with you Peter. Im giving a presentation this summer on the power of educational twitter chats and I figure i better practice what i preach. I really want to make sure i tweet at least once each day. #EdTechChat
A6 This maybe is one of my biggest goals this summer - teach myself behaviors to engage my PLN every day. I want to tweet at least one thought, one thing I've done, and one thing staff has done a day, then add Ss in Sept. Schedule time! #edtechchat
Was thinking I'd have varying levels of tasks for dif ability users for a total of 16 tasks but tell Ts they should pick 5, 3 they never had time to explore, 2 that stretch them #edtechchat
Absolutely! Like I said in A1, schedule the time and just do it. I think I may have to close my door (something I hate doing as an admin) during my scheduled PLN time just to get it done. It's that important to practice the behavior. #edtechchat
