Inspired by the brilliantly successful, powerful learning and collaboration opportunity that is the weekly #edchat, #elemchat was created to provide elementary (or primary) school educators with a venue for discussing issues and strategies that are specific to teaching in their context.
That is a great question that I am also curious about! I also have a question, and that is what types of strategies/interventions are out there to help students with dyslexia and other disabilities related to reading? #elemchat
I haven't used Minecraft but I recently saw an article about the game Fortnite which said that it helped students with Autism work on their social skills in a positive manner. I think Minecraft could do the same thing through collaboration! #elemchat
Technology is becoming an important part of the classroom, even for young students. What are some technology resources out there that are useful in elementary schools that keep students engaged and on task? #elemchat
One resource that I found to be interesting is an App called Discover Nature. It is a scavenger hunt like app that brings technology out into nature. Not only can students use their phones and tech but they have the chance to learn and be outdoors! #elemchat
I am curious for others' answers too! My school has 1 reading specialist trained in take flight program for 400+ students :/...do all teachers feel this struggle? #READ5305#elemchat
There is a website called https://t.co/DtuKVZuePX and it has a bunch of different games for kids to play to learn numbers, letters, and other skills. It would be something fun and easy for the kids to do over the summer as long as they have access to a computer. #elemchat#edsp454
I have heard great things about Seesaw. I have also recently used https://t.co/QiwesmQlOR which is an audio recorder that you can use to send voice messages to people. That is another great tool to use during school to send reminders home to parents! #elemchat
Awesome! Thank you. What a coincidence, I'm also on twitter for a grad school class.I'm curious to know, so with dyslexia, how early on do children manifest symptoms? #elemchat
Very poorly! Sadly, not much support for dyslexic students - I'll be incorporating ideas from this article this upcoming year. #READ5305#elemchathttps://t.co/etCD7vIdMd
Find the research on physical activity and cognition in Meeusen, R., Schaefer, S., Tomporowski, P. & Bailey, R. (2017). Physical Activity and Educational Achievement: Insights from Exercise Neuroscience (ICSSPE Perspectives). London: Routledge #PE#elemchat#neuraled
That is sad! I guess like other disabilities, the earlier the detection the better. Can you tell me a little bit more on how children with dyslexia are evaluated?#elemchat
I have found yoga and stretching right away in the morning and after lunch has really helped the students. It’s gets them ready for the day and calms them down after recess! Then they know it’s time to work. #elemchat
That's incredible! I have not about her but I'll give the book a read, I'm sure it'll help me understand dyslexia better. It's so true, there are many misconceptions about dyslexia and I fell for some of them :(
