  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:04 PM EDT

  • ReadAhead1 Apr 16 @ 9:04 PM EDT
Hi! I’ve been an English teacher since 1995 but have skewed more to ed tech & ID over the years. Work at Emory as a Director of Online Learning. I know, not K-12, but you guys are awesome! I always learn. Higher Edtech leadership is emerging #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:04 PM EDT
A1 (2/2) Many of our leaders, admins, and teachers are comfortable using and trying new #edtech tools after learning on @twitter, @edcamprome, or @fcsclassic. #fcsdot has a great crew to spearhead edtech in our schools and remove barriers for our stakeholders. #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:04 PM EDT
I have that same comment every single day. I’m so honored to be working with them! #TECHtalkGA

A2: I support multiple @apsupdate schools and provide #edtech training as part of a district team. #techtalkga
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A2: I attend tech conferences to bring back ideas and concepts to my building, my peers in my position and of course through my Twitter #PLN #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • bamaguy1218 Apr 16 @ 9:07 PM EDT
#techtalkga Roy, Science Specialist from Floyd County, arriving fashionably late to the tech party.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:07 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A2: I'm "officially" leadership by being part of the district support staff. But I try to earn the title by spreading my passion to other schools, by helping Ts when & where they need, & by asking 1st about their goals/problems before trying to find "the right" tech.
  • Mrs_Bongi Apr 16 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A2: I am usually the first person in my building to try something, learn, and model new technology. I also do a large part of our professional development in regards to technology with our Bagels, Books, & Bytes. Twitter is a huge part as well! #TECHtalkGA
  • mrschz Apr 16 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A2: we have what we call lead innovators in each school who periodically throughout the year to learn more about our LMS and innovative teaching. We can share with others at our school #TECHTalkGA
  • hazlebussey Apr 16 @ 9:07 PM EDT
Good evening y'all. Leslie Hazle Bussey from GLISI. I'm lurking here tonight to learn more. We are thinking and experimenting alot with integrating tech more into experiences that grow leaders and deepen learning/transformation. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • Dale_Chu Apr 16 @ 9:08 PM EDT
HAPPENING NOW: @MmeBurgess moderating a chat on leadership. Follow along at #TECHtalkGA!
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:08 PM EDT
We can't undervalue the importance of @Twitter to connect us online synchronously/asynchronously and our #pln family to help us in person. #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A2: My role is as the “lead” #edtech leader, essentially. I’m grateful for the opportunity to show that instructional technology is MORE than instructional technology! It’s innovation, coaching, ROI, program evaluation, instructional best practices, and curriculum! #TECHtalkGA
  • pNabbie Apr 16 @ 9:08 PM EDT
    YES, you do! #Jen4TheWin #WhereYourEarsBurningTonight I always brag on my #Jen #TECHtalkGA

  • apsitjen Apr 16 @ 9:09 PM EDT
    A2. 2/2 I serve as the lead for the @DiscoveryEd #DENamb program for @apsupdate educators. #DEPD #techtalkga
  • bamaguy1218 Apr 16 @ 9:09 PM EDT
#techtalkga A2: I'm not seen as a tech leader in my district, but in talking about teaching, I inevitably discuss things like Twitter, Google Forms, etc... By talking the language I help perpetuate a positive tech influence.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:10 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q3: What is something that you struggle with as an #edtech leader?
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:10 PM EDT
A2 I'm the lead #edtech learner in my district. There's a lot of tools that can help our Ts and Ss, and it's important to filter through them to find what's effective. Edtech isn't just technology now. It touches every department and individual. #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:10 PM EDT
Good gracious! That’s rather 😳. And there are still smaller institutions both K12 and HigherEd without any instructional designers or instructional technology folks. Scary to consider this day and age! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ReadAhead1
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:10 PM EDT
Welcome! We're so happy to have you join us for #TECHtalkGA! As part of #forsythpln, I can tell you that I have learned a LOT about GLISI but am always happy to learn more!
    In reply to @hazlebussey

A2: I'm the coordinator for a District. I try to bring innovation, coaching, and a sense of support as we move into a new way of teaching. #techtalkga
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3: TIME!!! I have so many ideas and projects I'd love to implement that I just don't have enough time in the day to get it all done! LOL #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • pNabbie Apr 16 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3: Biggest struggle is getting T buy in...but I think that is because they don't have time to 'play' #techtalkga
  • Mrs_Bongi Apr 16 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3: Honestly, taking a step back and realizing embedding technology (authentically) can be hard for other teachers. I can be overzealous at times and that can be overwhelming or intimidating for tech beginners. #TECHtalkGA
  • mrschz Apr 16 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3: I struggle with moving beyond my four walls and sharing ideas. I feel like others see it as I am a “know-it-all” or something 😞 #TECHtalkGA
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:11 PM EDT
REALLY?! That’s awesome, my friend! I’m so glad you are lurking here! You are a rockstar! #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @hazlebussey, @MmeBurgess
  • ehlmstech Apr 16 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: Getting others to try new things #TechTalkGA and seeing my grands filling in blanks on pdf documents. ugh!
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:12 PM EDT
.@bamaguy1218 is humble. He uses #edtech everyday as our districts science coach. Proud of his growth over the last few years and his drive to constantly adapt/learn! #techtalkga
  • jklcassidy Apr 16 @ 9:12 PM EDT
coming in late guys- was working on fractions with the kiddos. #TECHtalkGa
  • ClintWinter Apr 16 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: I struggle with pacing sometimes. It's all good stuff but I need to realize that sometimes we drink from the fire hydrant of technology of both good and bad #techtalkga
  • gabolhuis Apr 16 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A2: I try to work via planning days, through the instructional coaches/media specialists who know which units are coming up and when requested for a specific tool. #techtalkga
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:13 PM EDT
That is DEFINITELY serving as an #edtech leader! Leaders don't have to have to official titles! It's more about what you do than what you're called! Don't let the "lack" of a title keep you from leading! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @bamaguy1218
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:13 PM EDT
    #TECHtalkGA
    • gabolhuis Apr 16 @ 9:10 PM EDT
Whitfield County schools, 1 instructional tech coordinator, 1 instructional tech specialist and media liaison (me), a few media specialists with instructional tech degrees.
      In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • apsitjen Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3. Ts are so busy they often don't have ⏰ or 💡 to try new #edtech #techtalkga
  • maherley - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
    Agreed! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @RhondaStroud9
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3 #1 struggle = time I want to be everywhere and make my district the best it can be. Prioritizing, triage, and sticking to a predefined set of expectations keeps me focused. #techtalkga
  • bamaguy1218 Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3: #techtalkga There are too many cool tech things for me to digest. I must resist spreading my technology base too thin. Focusing on one or two things at a time is longer lasting than following every cute idea.
  • jklcassidy Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3: wanting to share so much good tech but not wanting to overwhelm the staff....#TECHtalkGa
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
Don't stress over this! When you step out of your comfort zone, it sometimes makes others uncomfortable! Keep your head up! Keep going and they'll soften their mindset!! :-) #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
    In reply to @mrschz
  • gabolhuis Apr 16 @ 9:15 PM EDT
A3: I’m new this year, so I am struggling with getting into all schools to build relationships...it’s easier once I’ve been to a school a time or two... #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:15 PM EDT
#GaETC18 is November 7-9! But we'll also have a F2F meet-up for #TECHtalkGA on the evening of Nov 6, for anyone who is already in town!
    In reply to @pNabbie, @RhondaStroud9
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:15 PM EDT
A3: Clarity of communication, particularly to every single faculty member in the district. I want them to know readily and clearly why we do the things we do! The gap between CO and classroom teacher is still perceived as too wide. I want to bridge that gap. #TECHTalkGA
  • ReadAhead1 Apr 16 @ 9:15 PM EDT
I struggle with the time commitment some faculty will need to make to learn something new. And struggle with helping them imagine the impact. e.g. as simple as using assignment submission forum in LMS- it saves them so much time & is quick learning curve, yet... #TECHtalkGa
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:16 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q4: How do you encourage others to become leaders?
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
I definitely can relate to this! #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
    In reply to @Mrs_Bongi
  • mrschz Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
I feel the same way. Do you by chance have a way of organizing all the cool tools so you remember what and how to use when? Thanks #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @bamaguy1218
  • Georgia_STEM Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A3: Time. So much to share and so little time. #TECHtalkGa
  • hazlebussey Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
Also have to chime in that you might even be more effective because your focus is on TEACHING. Ts might be leery of tech but I love how tech can be a trojan horse for great teaching - something every T can embrace. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess, @bamaguy1218
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
Dear amazing @bamaguy1218, you ARE and SHOULD BE VIEWED as a tech leader! (I have witnessed your tech leader-ness, as well, and it is PHENOMENAL!) Tech leadership should be imbued in our content/instruction leaders. In 2018, it all goes hand in hand! #TECHTalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A4 Give people the opportunity to lead and be successful. Cross train like crazy, share your skill set, and introduce others to your #pln. #techtalkga
  • bamaguy1218 Apr 16 @ 9:18 PM EDT
#techtalkga A4: If you walk the leader walk, some will walk it with you. Words aren't as strong as actions.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:18 PM EDT
For sure, that is a struggle, but I think that then it becomes more about the relationships than the tech. When you build the right relationships, they know you're sharing to help THEM, not to help YOU! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @mrschz
  • ClintWinter Apr 16 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A4: Ts need an opportunity to have time to Learn and try out and fail. When you do that you grow confidence and when you have confidence you can show others. When you show others you are a leader. #techtalkga
  • Mrs_Bongi Apr 16 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: Empowerment! Giving them the encouragement when they make gains, showcasing their talents, and lots of smiles/fist bumps #TECHtalkGA
  • bamaguy1218 Apr 16 @ 9:19 PM EDT
#techtalkga I do not have any way of organizing cool tools. My brain can't hold them all.
    In reply to @mrschz
  • pNabbie Apr 16 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: I encourage others to become leaders by taking part in #EdCamps & conferences. I also encourage them to share w/in their buildings #Elevate&Celebrate #TECHtalkGA
  • gabolhuis Apr 16 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: I encourage them to use their knowledge and skills to help others. We’re not in competition! Also, I’ve helped neighboring educators who don’t have instructional techs..I’m often meeting folk for coffee and collaboration #TECHTalkGA

Sounds so familiar and is painfully similar across the board, no matter the district! How might we solve this problem, #TECHTalkGA friends?
    • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3 #1 struggle = time I want to be everywhere and make my district the best it can be. Prioritizing, triage, and sticking to a predefined set of expectations keeps me focused. #techtalkga

A4: encouraging them to present and share what they consider themselves to be experts in #TECHtalkGA
  • hazlebussey Apr 16 @ 9:22 PM EDT
Often emerging leaders don't see themselves as leaders or are uncomfortable stepping out in front of others. A thoughtful, well-timed and authentic compliment about how you were moved by their example or innovation can begin to change their self-concept. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • mrschz Apr 16 @ 9:22 PM EDT

  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:24 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q5: What would you like to see from your #edtech leadership team?
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A4: I try to highlight technology infused lessons by individuals in the building, hoping that others close by them will ask them for help. I've also encouraged joining Twitter chats and attending tech conferences @mrschz has been doing great with this! :-) #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Apr 16 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A4: I don't know how others do it...I was "molded" by @CatFlippen who believed in me, encouraged me, prodded me, and flat out made me when I didn't think I could or should. So I take my lead from her, whether that's right or wrong, LOL! #TECHtalkGA
  • ehlmstech Apr 16 @ 9:25 PM EDT
I want to learn awesome tables - will you teach a class? #TechTalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • iamryanwhite Apr 16 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A5 I'd like to see a gathering of the #edtech Georgia leadership minds. We need to collaborate more to learn from each other. We don't need the click here, click there stuff. We need to see practical application, share resources, and build a tighter network. #techtalkga
  • CatFlippen Apr 16 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A4: This is my personal “Lamp, Lifeboat, Ladder” core belief of #leadership #edleadership: Be a lamp: Light up the accomplishments of others Be a lifeboat: Lend unconditional service to others Be a ladder: Lift the talents and passions of others #TECHTalkGA
  • mrschz Apr 16 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A5: I like to have more share & show sessions. I am always looking for new ways to use a current tool or a new tool to use #TECHTalkGA

#techtalkga A5: Snacks. I'd like to see snacks from our tech team. Seriously, the continued marriage of technology with good teaching. Tech isn't just the cool stuff. It's a way Ts and Ss can fly. #allabouttheteaching
  • RhondaStroud9 Apr 16 @ 9:28 PM EDT
